LETTER FROM YOUSRA KHAN

Dear Class of 2023,

Four years ago as you started your journey at Vassar College, I began my journey with the Office of International Services It was our first international student orientation and I was in awe of the remarkable group of students who possessed great strength and charisma to conquer everything For many of you, this was the first time leaving your home and your families but you effortlessly created a new home and family among all of us We became a family Your growth and maturity over these four years have been professionally fulfilling to observe You embraced all that Vassar had to offer, discovered your passions, and positively impacted those around you.

A little over a semester into your first year, we all experienced our new norm in the midst of a pandemic. Your determination to exceed beyond your tumultuous surroundings showcased your adaptability and perseverance These two qualities have been tested throughout your time at Vassar and when times were hard, you adapted to meet the changes and remained steadfast when it became challenging Again, you left me in awe of your fortitude

As you prepare for a journey to your next destination, carefully gather your essentials; tools to face challenges ahead and memories you hold dear The world and humanity will continue to change, but at an even more rapid rate moving forward Inevitably you will experience more disappointment and challenges, it is a part of life However, it is our reaction to disappointment and challenge that determines the outcome and defines who we are Therefore, I implore you to take the tools of adaptability and perseverance that you have learned so well with you to find success in your future pursuits.

I am confident that each of you has the potential to achieve great things and make a positive impact in the world Whether you choose to continue your education, pursue a career, or explore new opportunities, I urge you to do so with passion, integrity, and a commitment to excellence While I will miss you, I am so incredibly proud of and excited for you I wish you endless success and countless blessings every step of the way
