We’re kicking things off with a brilliant run of Live & Local events, celebrating some of the incredible talent we have right here in the islands.

Our showcase features The Broken Ravens, Sarah MacAskill & Band, and Preoccupied, and later on in February, we welcome the brilliant Calum Blane back to the stage. It’s important for An Lanntair and so special to see local musicians perform in the auditorium, and we’re thrilled to shine a light on them again this season and throughout 2026.

WELCOME‌

Bliadhna Mhath Ùr dhuibh Welcome to a new season at An Lanntair — and what a busy, creative few months we have ahead of us. As we step into 2026, the building is buzzing again with music, performances, workshops, films, and family fun. There’s a real sense of energy around the place, and we can’t wait to share it with you.

There’s plenty more to enjoy: starting with the return of the ever-popular Second Star Productions panto in January with Beauty & the Beast. It promises to be as spectacular and wonderful as always with lots of jokes and laughs for the wee and not so wee people.

The fabulous Here Come the Girls, and a welcome chance to catch the rescheduled The Rugged Island with Wave Waulking. Comedy fans can join Paul Riley for Too Smart to be Nice, and opera lovers (or the operacurious!) can enjoy Opera On Your Doorstep: The Office Party — fun, playful, and very much for everyone.

We have lots lined up for children and families too. This season we’re excited to introduce our brand-new Baby Disco, a joyful little event for our tiniest dancers. There’s also a dinosaur-themed arts sessions for preschoolers, and our Art Studio returns for the February holiday weekend.

On 25 January, families can join us for a Miniature Gardens workshop inspired by Tom Hickman’s exhibition, which runs until 14 February.

If you’re in the mood to get creative yourself, evening classes begin in early January for six weeks. We’ve also added two new Creative Connections sessions — Starling Spirit and a one-off workshop making Assemblage Boxes. And for film lovers, Film Club starts up again on 8 January.

In the galleries, we’re delighted to welcome What Lies Beyond, a new exhibition by Keith McIntyre RSA. Opening on Friday 20 February at 5pm it runs until 28 March, with an Artist Talk on Saturday 21 February. It’s a powerful, atmospheric show — definitely one to catch.

Whatever brings you in — a gig, a class, a family workshop, or just a coffee — we’re really looking forward to welcoming Sean Paul O’Hare‌ you through the doors this season.

Come along to our Trad Sessions led by Jane Hepburn MacMillan!

You can come alone, with friends or with the family, just make sure you bring an instrument to play a traditional tune or two with the group. The sessions will be informal and there will be no pressure to play on your own. They’ll be a great opportunity for people to play together, have a bit of craic and learn some new tunes, whether you’re a seasoned pro or beginner.

A workshop inspired by the wisdom of the starling – for anyone over the age of 60 living in the Western Isles who feels isolated. Join artist Annabell Pattulo online for a hands-on exploration through textile art, journaling, sketching and time in nature, as we draw inspiration from the starling’s way of beingplayful, intuitive, connected, and resilient.

Reconnect and spark creativity in this welcoming workshop designed for adults over 60 who, due to any circumstances, may feel isolated.

Together, we’ll create beautiful assemblage frames using meaningful images and natural objects, offering a relaxing space to share, express, and connect.

You’ll design a mobile or small installation that reflects your own spirit and personal story.

Techniques will include monoprinting; mark making with handmade brushes; creating a textile object and stitching.

EVENING CLASSES‌ Learn a new skill for a new year.

Adult evening classes begin in early January and run for 6 weeks.

Taighean Dhoileagain DOLLS’ HOUSES‌ The Art of the Miniaturist TOM HICKMAN‌ An extraordinary installation of masterful dolls houses created by Tom, set within a projection of a doll’s house.‌ ‌

Tom’s little croft house in New Tolsta won BBC Scotland’s Home of the Year in 2022. During their visit the judges were equally captivated by his Harper Dolls house, finding within a minute dolls house. A house within a house, a home within a home. Like a Russian Matryoshka doll.‌

The exhibition also features a hotel composed of different rooms, created by different people from the community.

The subject of this new exhibition is immortalising the soul, from the grotesque, playful world of Japanese Butoh, the ‘dance of darkness.’‌

WHAT LIES BEYOND KEITH MCINTYRE RSA

The gallery is transformed into a congregation of boats, cairns and satellites, each operating as a conveyor of the soul.‌ Based on Berneray, Keith is a member of the Royal Scottish Academy which in 2026 will have its 200th anniversary. This show forms part of An Lanntair’s contribution to the RSA200 Celebrating Together programme.‌

SONGWRITERS CIRCLE‌ WED 21 JAN & 18 FEB, 7PM

An Lanntair’s songwriters’ circle is‌ ‌ an opportunity for island‌ ‌ songwriters to try out ideas on‌ ‌ each other with no audience, no pressure and no expectations, just a group of kindred spirits who can offer encouragement and ideas.
