New York City, NY Internship Project project
June 2018 – Present
Task: Create notes for reviewers. Review submissions. Following projects were reviewed: Starlight Park, NY Bronx Point, NY Oak Point, NY North Waterfront, NC
NV5
Project Context: Waterfront Edge Design Guidelines (WEDG) is a credit based rating system for waterfront developments. WEDG guidelines establishes a process and threshold for certification to review a project’s performance relative to resilience, access, and ecology. The credits help guide the design process through six categories 1.Site Assessment & Planning 2.Responsible Siting & Coastal Risk Reduction 3.Community Access & Connections 4.Natural Resources 5. Innovation

Waterfront Alliance
Starlight Park is 25-acre park extending from Westchester Avenue toEast Tremont Avenue in the Bronx, New York.
5
New pathways and foot bridges will provide access to the Bronx River from Soundview on the east side of this section of the river for the first time in over 25 years, as well as increasing overall greenway continuity. Habitat restoration efforts include the replacement of hardened shorelines with restored tidal wetlands as well as 1.75 acres of wildflowers; more than 3,500 shrubs; nearly 200 trees; and 2,000 groundcover and vine plantings. In conjunction with NYC Parks’ regional restoration and invasive species removal plan for the Bronx River, the park is undertaking a rigorous two-year, parkwide invasive species management plan.

Starlight Park is the result of a decades-long community-driven planning effort. The creation of this 25-acre park on previously inaccessible brownfield sites closes an important gap in the 25mile Bronx River Greenway, reconnecting local communities to a restored waterfront with active and passive recreational features, including the state of the art Bronx River House. The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) created the park masterplan, and the New York City Departments of Parks and Recreation and Design and Construction completed the Bronx River House, which serves as the new headquarters for the park’s lead programming partner, the Bronx River Alliance. The park’s design and engineering consultants included NV5, WSP, Hardesty and Hanover. Kiss + Cathcart Architects and Starr Whitehouse designed the Bronx River House.
6 Operations & Maintenance 18/ 20 7 Innovation 15/ 20 TOTAL 197/ 357 Certification is at +130 Points
More than 60,000 square feet of rain gardens and an expansive 30,000 square foot retention basin have been planted, which will capture and filter 95% of the park’s runoff before it enters the Bronx River. The Bronx River House also provides 100% of its non-potable demand by capturing, storing, and treating stormwater runoff from its roof and hardscapes. Bronx River House’s design mitigates the urban heat island effect by reducing temperatures around the building by up to 5o F in the summer. The building envelope is clad with two layers of moss and vine-screens, which contribute to the cooler microclimate (and associated reduced load/operating costs)change colors with the season and provide habitat for birds and insects.

Energy Analysis of Higgins Hall Brooklyn, New York Graduate Project August 2017 Pratt Institute
Project Context: Higgins Hall is home for School of Architecture at Pratt institute. The build was build 135 years ago and is landmarked. The North and the South wing have different floor heights whichby is made Acquired Pratt, evident in the elevation. Even though the building is an Dept Of Architecture architectural master piece by Steven Hall, the energy systems are inefficient. The inefficient heating and cooling systems result into more energy consumption.

Green Infrastructure, Brooklyn Public Library Brooklyn, NY Graduate Project August 2017 Pratt Institute
Project Context: New Utrecht Library is a branch of Brooklyn Public Library. The library serves a diverse community where patrons of all ages can take part in the extensive program offerings, the most popular of which include Summer Meals, Kids Create, Chinese Brush Painting, Story Play, computer courses and ESOL classes. The library’s large auditorium and three meeting rooms can accommodate a wide range of special programs, many geared toward older adults. Our task was to create Green Infrastructure strategy which can incur energy savings as well as reduce combined sewer outfall. Task: Conducting Site Analysis, Understanding green infrastructure systems, Designing Green/Blue roof Designing Biophillic environment Skills: Research Photoshop, InDesign

Project Context: This is a luxury house built on a waterfront plot in Mumbai, India. The design comprised of concrete tessellations with window openings that have wood finished aluminum mullions. The execution of the form required regular site inspection, as the tessellations were not prefabricated but built on site. Special co ordination was required with structural engineers and HVAC consultants as conventional ducts and bars in the structural members had to be modified according to the design. The aluminum mullions had to be treated specially as the bungalow was located on the beach and the salinity in the air could corrode the aluminum rapidly.
