is the disruption of several lives and livelihoods. Taxi drivers, public transit operators, station agents, mechanics, rental car businesses.
Behind the appeal of flexible work hours
are erratic schedules and families robbed of time with their loved ones.
Behind the claim of increased urban mobility
is reduced public transit service.
Behind the goal of having fewer cars on our streets
is increased congestion & all the environmental harm that comes with it.
Is it not time we ask ourselves – who really benefits from the sharing taking economy?
Their promises only help them and a handful of others profit, at the expense of damage elsewhere.
The ‘elsewhere’ is our city and it’s at stake.
It is time for action.
We must demand that corporations think about the unpaid costs of their actions to our citizens, our city, our environment.
