Sasha Waxlands St. George of Willowmead April 23 2007 – May 16 2020

Sasha nació en Inglaterra el 23 de abril de 2007, la fiesta de San Jorge y de ahí su nombre “oficial”. Su padre se llamaba Hamish y pertenece a Suzanne Moorhouse, la misma señora que crió al antecesor de Sasha, Simon, al que se parece muchísimo físicamente pero en cuanto a Suzanne & Hamish 1 personalidad eran completamente diferentes.

Sasha was born in England on April 23rd.

2007. As this is the feast of St. George, that is how his “official” name came to be. His father, Hamish, belonged to Suzanne Moorhouse, who also bred Simon, Sasha’s predecessor.

Although Simon and Sasha were physically almost identical, their personalities were completely different.

Recogí a Sasha cuando tenía 8 semanas. Su hermanito se iba a una familia en Turquía que también había tenido un hermano de Simon.

El viaje fue estresante, creo que sobre todo para mí, porque las autoridades del aeropuerto de Heathrow fueron absolutamente horribles. Para aquellas fechas ya se habían introducido las medidas antiterrorismo. Me confiscaron la botellita de leche canina (sin abrir) que había comprado para el viaje, y me obligaron a pasar el cachorrito por la máquina de rayos X por la que se pasan los bolsos y maletas. Eso no se lo perdonaré jamás.

Durmió tranquilamente en el avión hasta que cambió el ruido del motor al bajarse el tren de aterrizaje. Mantuvo esta característica durante toda su vida: dormía tranquilamente en el coche hasta que el cambio de marcha indicaba que entrábamos en un pueblo. Entonces despertaba y estaba alerta.

I collected Sasha when he was 8 weeks old. His little brother was due to go to a family in Turkey who had also had one of Simon’s brothers.

The journey to Spain was stressful, particularly, I think, for me. The authorities at Heathrow airport were absolutely obnoxious. By that time the anti-terrorist measures had been introduced. They confiscated a small unopened bottle of canine milk that I had bought for the journey and forced me to put the puppy through the X-ray machine that bags and cases go through. I have never forgiven them for that!

He slept soundly during the flight until the engine noise changed when the landing gear was lowered. That same characteristic remained with him throughout his life. He was sleep soundly in the car until gears changed down indicating that we were entering a town and then he would wake up and become alert.

A favourite toy was plastic flower pots.

Another favourite game was jumping up to try and catch the tassels of the hammock.

Otro juego divertido fue saltar para intentar agarrar las borlas de la hamaca.

His new house companion was Tessie, an elderly little dog we had inherited when Fred, her owner, died.

Su nueva compañera de viaje fue Tessie, una perrita viejita que habíamos heredado cuando Fred, su dueño murió

His first doggie friends were Pia and David’s two black labs. He loved to follow Tío around like a big brother.

Sus primeros amigos caninos fueron los dos labradores negros de Pia y David y le encantaba seguir a Tío como un hermano mayor.

Then life was just a big journey of exploration and discovery.

Mission accomplished: finally got on the hammock!

Luego la vida era todo un viaje de exploración y descubrimiento.

Gibraltar Dog Show

Another adventure was attending the Gibraltar Dog Show in the puppy class. We queued for a long time in the early morning to complete registration as there were so many competitors from different European countries taking part. We had Pia and Tío for company too, but Tío was not taking part as a puppy. Once again this was a great socialization exercise.

Otra aventura fue cuando asistimos a la Exposición Canina de Gibraltar.

Tuvimos que hacer cola durante mucho tiempo para registrarnos porque había tantos asistentes de muchos países europeos. Nos acompañaron Pía y Tío que también estaba compitiendo, aunque no como cachorro. Éste fue otro ejercicio excelente de socialización

Making New Friends / Nuevas Amistades As a socialisation exercise we began to attend puppy classes and agility classes making sure to keep all exercises within the boundaries for a puppy with no jumps involved.

Como ejercicio de socialización empezamos a ir a clase de educación y de agility, asegurándonos de que todo el trabajo fuese conveniente para un cachorro sin saltos.

Our agility farewell walk when Lynne, who ran the group, finally decided to return to the UK. Nuestro paseo de despedida cuando Lynne, que organizaba el grupo, decidió regresar a Inglaterra.

At agility classes Sasha made two lifelong friends, Veronica & Jakey.

We continued to work together in the garden and every Sunday the three musketeers walked together and did some exercises.

En clase de agility Sasha hizo dos grandes amigos, Verónica y Jakey, Seguimos trabajando juntos y cada domingo los tres mosqueteros dieron un paseo y hacían algunos ejercicios.

Twice (2009 & 2010) Fiona, my niece, came to stay and take care of him while we were away.

They got on well together.

En dos ocasiones (2009 y 2010) Fiona, mi sobrina, vino a cuidar de él mientras nosotros estábamos fuera. Hicieron buenas migas.

Favourite pastimes throughout his life were undoubtedly going for walks on the beach or in the country. He would become immersed in a world of aromas.

Su pasatiempo favorito durante toda la vida fueron los paseos, tanto en la playa como en el campo donde se entregaba al universo de olores del entorno.

A major component of most of Sasha’s life was Tellington TTouch. Here he is in the labyrinth.

Un aspecto importnte de la vida de Sasha fue el trabajo de Tellington TTouch. Aquí lo vemos en el laberinto del Circuito de Confianza.

Another major component was zoopharmacognosy. He spent many hours inhaling and sniffing essential oils.

Otro aspecto fue la zoofarmacognosis aplicada. Pasó muchas horas oliendo y olfateando los aceites esenciales.

One interesting activity we took was the Dognition series of personality games. Sasha turned out to be socialite – friend of all – and he certainly inspired confidence in all animals who came into contact with him.

Una actividad interesante que hicimos fue participar en la serie de juegos online de Dognition para determinar la personalidad de los animales, en concreto de los perros.

Sasha resultĂł ser muy sociable. Ciertamente inspiraba confianza en todos los animales de cualquier especie que encontraba.

For some months Sasha had been ill.

One complaint was a blood clot which is apparently quite rare in dogs.

Gradually he lost the use of his hind legs.

Durante unos meses Sasha estuvo enfermo. Uno de los problemas fue un coágulo, cosa que parece ser bastante raro en los perros. Poco a poco fue perdiendo el uso de las patas traseras.

On Friday May 15th., lying on the grass in the garden, he looked directly into my eyes as though asking a question. I told him that if he felt it was his time to leave, he should not hold on but feel free to go. He licked my face and laid his head on my lap.

El viernes 15 de mayo, tumbado sobre la hierba en el jardín, me miró directamente a los ojos como interrogándome. Le dije que si creía que era su hora de partir, que no debería aguantar sino que debería sentirse libre. Me lamió la cara y descansó la cabeza en el regazo.

At 5am on May 16th. something made me wake up. When I heard his breathing I knew it was the end. I placed my hand on his side and life slowly ebbed away. He did not wake up but passed away serenely.

A las 5 de la madrugada algo me desveló. Cuando sentí su respiración sabía que era el final. Le coloqué la mano sobre el costado y se fue extinguiendo la vida poco a poco. No se despertó. Murió con toda tranquilidad y serenidad.
