Animal Friends is a non-profit organization serving the needs of pets and people since 1943. Our progressive programs have been nationally recognized and include pet rescue, shelter and adoption services, behavior classes, educational and therapeutic outreach and more. Most importantly, Animal Friends is leading the way towards ending pet overpopulation in western Pennsylvania through comprehensive, community-wide spay/neuter programming. THINKING outside THE CAGE
We’re proud to introduce Animal Friends’ alum Cayenne as the face of Animal Friends’ Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog month celebration. Cayenne was brought to us by her previous owners because they could no longer dedicate enough time to her care. After a few months at the shelter, Animal Friends volunteer Joe Thornton couldn’t resist her sweet smile and decided to take her home. Cayenne has done beautifully in her new home!

So what can you do to celebrate Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month? The obvious answer is to take one of our adorable, adoptable pets home! Any one of our shelter residents would make a great, furry addition to your family. Can’t adopt? You could become a foster parent! Foster parents are always in demand and some of our dogs would benefit greatly from a loving foster home. Story continued on page 2...
