Itt van a város, vagyunk lakói

Az I Love Budapest projekt szép folytatása, és egyben koncentrálása azoknak a gondolatoknak, melyek a Szándékos vakság című kiállításon korábban már megjelentek - a magyar/budapesti identitás miben létéről, a hely szelleméről, az egyén és a közösség viszonyáról beszélnek e mostani munkák.

A sok jelentésrétegből összetevődő alkotásokból kirajzolódik az a Budapest-kép, ami az alkotó sajátja és ilyen formában csak az övé, de amelynek bizonyos részei kollektív tudatunkban is jelen vannak.

A projekt tehát a mélyen személyes narratíván túl finoman és diszkréten felveti azokat a szociokulturális kérdéseket is, melyek szorosan összefonódnak a várossal. A kartonból elkészített keretek például egyszerre idézik fel a szelektív hulladékgyűjtés fontosságát, a városi szemét felhalmozódásának kérdését, illetve a hajléktalan-ügyre is ráirányítják a figyelmet: a keret egyszerre hulladék, trash és annak újra-felhasználása, miközben emlékeztet minket azokra a keménypapír darabokra is, melyek az aluljárókban az otthon nélkül maradottak felségterületeit jelölték, mielőtt még a politika kitiltotta és ezzel láthatatlanná tette ezt a társadalmi réteget.llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll A kereten megjelenő piros vonalak egy kihajtogatott dobozt rajzolnak ki, melynek a mélyébe látunk, de ezekből a vonalakból asszociálhatunk a televízió képernyőjére is, ami így a fogyasztói társadalommal kapcsolatos kérdésekkel is szembesíti a befogadót és egyben a magaskultúra termékét állítja a kommersz tartalom helyébe, finoman ráirányítva ezzel a figyelmet a helyes fogyasztásra.

Akárhogy is legyen, minden vonal a keret mögötti képre fókuszál, ami a projekt tulajdonképpeni esszenciája.

E központi résznél kerül elő koncentráltabban a projekt személyes-vallomásos jellege is: a különféle technikákkal megdolgozott képek kiindulópontja egy fotó, mely magát az alkotót ábrázolja, egy egészen kifordított perspektívából: a selfie-kultúrába is illeszthető “önarcképen” tulajdonképpen nem is látunk mást, csak azt, amint az alak szoknyáját fújdogálja a pesti szellő, miközben két lába egymás mellett, határozottan áll a talajon. Habár az alakból alig látszik valami, jelenléte a képen mégis rendkívül erős: a kimerevített pillanatban ő maga az itt és most. És ugyan konkrétan nem meghatározható helyszínen áll, csupán az aszfalt szürkesége segít a tájékozódásban, mégis tudjuk, hogy ez maga Budapest, a folyton nyüzsgő.lllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllkkkkkkkkkkkkk Herbert képein erősen operál tehát a hiánnyal, ugyanis sem az alakot nem tudjuk kivenni a teljes valójában, és a helyszín sem pontosan lokalizálható, így a figura és a tér is szabadon behelyettesíthető - a szoknyás alak lehet a befogadó maga, az aszfalt pedig saját személyes budapesti helyszínének talaja. Így válik közössé a képben az alkotó és a befogadó személyes valósága.

Ami viszont hangsúlyosan megjelenik a képen, az a két láb, mely mindegyik munkán szorosan beágyazódik a helyszínbe. Ezzel a hangsúllyal Herbert tovább folytatja a Boldogsághelyek című sorozatának gondolatmenetét: az örömök és csalódások, sőt maga az identitás is szorosan kötődik az adott térhez, az adott helyszínhez, Trencsényi Zoltánt idézve: “szép, emlékezetes pillanatai mindenkinek vannak, nem csoda, hogy azok helyszínei is erősen belevésődnek az emlékezetbe”.

A művész számára tehát Budapest nem jelent mást, mint a helyszínekhez való erős kötöttséget, az azokon való intenzív és aktív jelenlétet.llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll Arról pedig, hogy Herbert milyen konkrét helyszíneken van jelen, a kartonon megjelenő piktogramok tanúskodnak. A Szabadság-szobor és az A38-as hajó emblémája jól lokalizálhatóvá teszi az a személyes budapesti területet, ahol az alkotó otthon van, illetve piktogramként szimbolikus tartalommal is telítődnek és a szabadság jelképeiként lépnek elő. A vallomásos jelleg ezekben az ikonokban is felerősödik, ennek köszönhetően együttesen még a művész aláírását is prezentálják.

Az öt munka egymás mellett az állandóság mellett a folyamatos változásról, alakulásról is tanúsít.

A textúrák, a rétegek és anyagok játékával az alkotó szépen árnyalja a Budapest-képet, miközben a hálók, szalagok, buborékfóliák újra csak felidézik bennünk a fogyasztói társadalommal kapcsolatos kérdéseket. E belső képek különféle megvalósítása, átformálása összhangban áll a fal mellett futó versekkel is, és nyilvánvalóan rímel az adott költő Budapest-képére is. Ayhan Gökhan, Izsó Zita, Magolcsay Nagy Gábor, Ughy Szabina, Simon Márton és Szabó Imola Julianna és Herbert Aniko Budapest-képe más, és más, mégis így együtt, a képek mellett valami olyan sűrű szövedéket alkotnak, melyből pontosan kirajzolódik kollektív tudatunk Budapestje, amiben egyszerre van jelen az idetartozás és a menni-akarás. llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllééééééééééééééééééééééééééééééééééééé Az I love Budapest projekt azzal a sajátosan budapesti életérzéssel szembesít minket, amelyben ugyan megfogalmazódik az elvágyódás, a jobb lét iránti vágy, ezt azonban mégis elnyomja a városhoz való erős kötődésünk, az ide tartozásunk. Az érzés, ami testet ölt ezeken a képeken, nagyjából ugyanaz, amit Forgács Nóra Kinga így ír le: “a köldökünket lehet, hogy így szeretjük, azzal az összes kosszal, középen, ezzel az összes dilemmával, hogy mégis honnan, hogyan, hova? És miért pont így vagyunk itthon?

Miért is pont így kellene használnunk a tereinket?” Ezek a kérdések újból és újból felvetődnek, ha Budapestről van szó, az viszont biztos, hogy ez a város a miénk, szeretjük, néha szenvedélyesen, néha őrjöngő dühvel, de végül maradunk itten, maradunk itt, maradunk.

This is the city, we are its dwellers

I <3 Budapest is a continuation and condensation of the thoughts that were already present in the Wilful Blindness exhibitionnamely the Hungarian/Budapest identity, the genius loci or the 'spirit of place,' the relat ionship between the individual and the community. The image of Budapest that takes shape from the multiple layers of meaning in these pieces is the creator's own and in that way is only hers but some aspects of it are undeniably present in our collective consciousness as well well.ééééééééééééééééééééééééééééééééééééééééé Beyond the deeply personal narrative the present project tactfully addresses those sociocultural issues that are strongly interwoven with the city. The frames made out of cardboard, for example, bring up at once the importance of selective rubbish disposal, the question of litter that keeps accumulating in the city and the issue of homelessness as well. The frame is thus both trash and its recycled form and it also reminds us of those cardboard-pieces that marked the space of homeless people in subways before they were banished and rendered almost totally invisible by the powers that be.llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllljjjjj The red lines tracing the frame outline a box that is opened up to our view; but these same red lines could also make us associate to the television screen which subtly hints at the issue of consumerism and the consumerist culture. With this crafty gesture high-art is set in the place of low culture, indicating more proper forms of consumption. Be that as it may, each line converges on the image beyond the frame, the very essence of the project. It is here (in the middle) where the personal, self-disclosing character of the project presents itself: the source of the images rendered in various different kinds of techniques is an actual photograph about the artist herself that shows her from quite a reversed perspective. On this ''self-portrait'' a fitting specimen of the selfie-culturebesides the breeze blowing across the skirt of the figure whose legs stand firm on the ground we do not actually see anything. Although we barely see the figure, her presence on the picture is very strong: in that frozen moment she is the here and she is the now. And though she is standing at a place that is not concrete and identifiableexcept for the grayness of the asphalt providing some vague clueswe know that this is Budapest, our ceaselessly bustling hive of a capital.llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll The idea of 'lack' plays a significant function in Herbert's pictures. In effect, we cannot make out the figure in her actuality and the place is similarly vague, rendering both the figure and the ground replacablethe figure in the skirt might very well be the spectator herself and the ground her own personal and specific place in Budapest. This is how the disparate realities of the spectator and the artist actually blend. The legs are very prominent in the pictures constituting as such an essential part of the places presented in them. With this emphasis Herbert continues the theme brought forth in her previous series entitled Happiness Places wherein the highs and the lows, the joys and the disappointments, and even one's identity itself are strongly tied to the given space, the actual place. To quote Trencsényi Zoltán: ''everyone experiences beautiful and memorable moments, and it is no wonder that the actual place of those moments also burns itself into one's memories''. For the artist Budapest means a strong relationship, a commitment to its numerous places and an intense and highly active presence in those places.hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh As for the concrete places where Herbert is active and present we learn about them from the pictograms on the cardboards. The Liberty Statue and the emblem of the A38 localizes those places in Budapest where the artist feels at home. As pictograms these places are endowed with further symbolical meaning too, appearing as tokens of freedom. The confessional style is further enhanced in these icons by bearing the artist's signature as well. Besides continuity the five pieces set side by side bespeak of change and transformation. With the play of the different textures, layers and materials the artist is quite adept at depicting her Budapest-image as, once again, the nets, tapes and bubble packs bring the questions of consumerism to one's mind. The actualization and translation of these inner images is in perfect line with the poems exhibited next to them on the wall and, without doubt, is also in harmony with the particular Budapest-image of the given poets. The Budapest-image of Ayhan Gökhan, Izsó Zita, Magolcsay Nagy Gábor, Simon Márton,Szabó Imola Julianna,Ughy Szabina and Herbert Anikó are all different but in juxtaposition to the pictures they form a dense texture of sorts that calls forth the Budapest of our collective consciousness which harbours both a sense of belonging and the desire of going away.

The I <3 Budapest project confronts us with that kind of unique Budapest-feeling in which the longing to l eave and to start a better life somewhere else is still overridden by our strong ties to the city, the fact that we belong here. The feeling that manifests in these pictures is by and large very similar to what Forgács Nóra Kinga writes in the following passage: ''we love our navel like this, in the middle, with all the dirt and lint inside it, with all the dilemmas regarding the whence and the why and the how? Why exactly like this are we at home here? Why are we supposed to use our spaces in the way we do?'' These questions come up over and over again if we talk about Budapest, and one thing is sure: this city is ours and we love it, sometimes passionately sometimes with wrathful anger, but in the end we decide to stay here, we just stay, we stay.

Budapest, the city that I always feel ready to leave. Budapest, which for me,in fact, is Buda. It is The Bálint café in Házmán street, the Krisztinaváros, the Lánchíd street with Tandori Dezső and Heltai Jenő in Buda that Budapest means for me.

My body belongs to Pest, yet the rest belongs to Buda.

Only the dull, the idle, the dumb and dense could hate me.

Fontos, hogy ilyenkor egyedül legyek, kettesben a várossal, kicsit olyanok vagyunk ilyenkor, mint egy házaspár, pontosabban egy anya és egy apa, akik a gyerekekkel töltött hosszú hetek, hónapok után először csinálnak maguknak közös programot, amikor végre tudnak egymásra figyelni. Ha lenne velem valaki, nem lehetnék igazi vendég, a velem utazó másik ember ugyanis, ha tényleg velem van, vagyis hozzám tartozik, sokkal inkább az otthonom, mint a konkrét hely, ahonnan ketten jöttünk el. Sometimes it feels good to roam like a tourist in the city. It is important that I am by myself when I do this, I want to be together with the city, a bit like a married couple or, more specifically, like a mother and a father who after spending long weeks and months with their children do something together alone for the first time and are able at last to appreciate and pay attention to each other. If there were someone with me, I couldn't be a genuine guest, since the other person travelling with meprovided they truly belong to mewould be more like my home than the actual place whence we both came. The Danube: span of 40 meters. Concrete melting into mush, shadowplay of leaves and a wing cracked grey. The shade of cut-down trees: Pest. Bridge in the mouth, ships on the moon. The memory of my father is a dim satellite picture, I jam it into the windowframe of my flat.

Mióta tudom, hogy bármikor elmehetnék innen, azóta elviselhető ez az egész. A tapasztalat és a feledés lehetősége úgy vonz magához, mintha turistaként élnék itt átmenetileg egy élet óta. Nem kell maradnom. Önként maradok. Reggelente elindulok benned a képek sokasága után.

Figyelmesnek és érzékenynek kell lennem, mint a talpam. Megyek, és a megtett út körbeér bennem. A város ismétli önmagát, hogy bőségéből valami megragadjon az emlékezetében. Csoszogó lépések koptatják napra nap. Lassan minden felcserélhető egymással; hidak és férfiak, homlokzatok és árnyak, közös ismerőseink. Néha megállok, mennék és maradok, tőled búcsúzkodom.lllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

Ever since I know that I could leave any time, it all has become tolerable.

The possibility of experience and forgetting appeals to me so much, as if I was living here as a tourist temporarily for a lifetime. I do not have to stay. I choose to stay. In the mornings I set out after a multitude of pictures in you. Like the sole of my feet, I need to be mindful and sensitive. I go, and the covered distance reaches round in me. The city repeats itself, so that something from its abundance sticks in its memory. Feet dragging and shuffling wear it down day in day out.

Gradually everything becomes interchangeable; bridges and men, facades and shades, our mutual acquaintances. Sometimes I stop, I go and then I stay, I am saying farewell to you. llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
