Seventeen features, forty-eight shorts, three shorts programs, Q&As with filmmakers, a Halloween dress-up session, and it’s the festival’s return to its original haunting ground: Dendy Cinemas Newtown. A killer package!

fter nearly three years of pandemic hell many of the themes present in this year's program reflect the damage done; mental illness, psychosis, delusion, loneliness, hopelessness, loss, grief, betrayal, vengeance, suicide. It’s quite apparent there’s been much to process and much to purge.

BOO!

A Night of Horror is here to facilitate. To lead you through the Theredarkness.werearecord

number of submissions for our 14th edition, and as such, the program is bulging at the seams, as there was so much of the good stuff.

As usual, huge thanks to my festival team, including our awesome 2022 jury, our fabulous sponsors, our loyal supporters, both new and old, and props to our fellow independent festivals. Keep fighting the good fight, guys!

BRYN TILLY Festival Director

It’s made for a stronger curated experience, and a particularly powerful one with all these potent, relevant themes at play. Loads of creepy fun too.

Indeed, we couldn’t be happier to be back in the hustle and bustle of the Inner West, where much of the festival’s core demographic dwell. King Street, Newtown, is where the festival cut its teeth, forged its following, and it feels good to be back in the fold.

Imagine the lovelorn melodrama and otherworldly weirdness of David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks” set in rural Australia, where soft dreams of light slide into hard, cruel darkness, where grief and unhealthy attachment become hopelessly, dangerously overwhelming, when love makes you do the damnedest, craziest things, when you lose control… and all you want to do is ride your motorcycle into the sunset.
