Art You Can Fall For In The Cityof the Arts®

outhern California is a vacation hot spot for over 46 million people every year. From unique beach towns to energetic theme parks, Orange County is the pinnacle of destinations for visitors seeking sun, beaches, incredible dining and beautiful sunsets. In the heart of Orange County sits the charming Costa Mesa, the City of the Arts®, where visitors can immerse themselves in a variety of artistic experiences and truly create their own unique escape.

Arguably the cultural center of the county, Costa Mesa has an internationally acclaimed Theater & Arts District, where discerning travelers can enjoy Broadway shows and concerts — but that’s not all the city offers. The arts are weaved throughout Costa Mesa’s visitor experience, including designer shopping and Michelin Star dining, with welcoming indoor and outdoor spaces.

Social media lovers will fall head over heels for the Instagrammable murals hidden all throughout Costa Mesa, including pieces titled “Dolly Parton” and “Welcome Home” by worldfamous artist Shepard Fairey, as well as a tribute mural to Kobe Bryant and daughter Gianna.

A genre for everyone  Segerstrom Center for the Arts is celebrating its 35-year anniversary with a phenomenal lineup for this coming season, with top-tier performers including Jane Lynch, Bernadette Peters, Chita Rivera and Patti Lupone, as well as hit Broadway shows in Segerstrom Hall including Hamilton, Moulin Rouge! The Musical, To Kill A Mockingbird, Disney’s Frozen and Tina: The Tina Turner Musical. The Center is home to three resident companies: Pacific Symphony, the Philharmonic Society of Orange County and Pacific Chorale. Whether someone is a jazz, classical, pop or opera fan, the stunning Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall is sure to accommodate the musical interests of anyone who visits. The concert hall is a beautiful piece of art in and of itself designed by Cesar Pelli, made out of Portuguese limestone and glass. The center holds a multi-tiered foyer and staircase, where guests have the opportunity to see the original Segerstrom Hall with notable, famous sculptures by Richard Lippold and Richard Serra. Big names such as Tony Bennett, Beverly Sills, YoYo Ma and the New York City Opera have all performed in its acoustically spectacular concert hall.

In with the new

Opening this October, the Orange County Museum of Art showcases early 20th Century-tomodern California art. With more than 3,000 pieces, the museum not only highlights traditional artwork including paintings, sculptures and photographs, but also has modern media including digital, video and installation art. OCMA is working

ADVERTORIAL SOCALLIFEMAG.COM 14

to create monthly events within the museum such as youth activities, art lectures and artist talks. Designed by Morphosis Architects, under the direction of Pritzker Prize-winner Thom Mayne and Partner-in-Charge Brandon Welling, the state-of-the-art, 53,000-square-foot building will provide a beautiful indoor-outdoor experience for showcasing the collection and exhibitions, including focus on community spaces.

Take a walk and learn more

Free and open to the public is the Costa Mesa Art Walk. The public art spectacle is home to more than 20 pieces of art. Immerse yourself into the artwork with commentated facts and information with Costa Mesa’s complimentary audio tour, available at travelcostamesa.com/artwalk . World-renowned artists Isamu Noguchi and Joan Miró are just some of the talents that visitors are able to experience during this self-guided stroll.

Where fashion is art

For those seeking luxury goods and designer names right off the runway South Coast Plaza is the place in Orange County. Costa Mesa’s South Coast Plaza is the largest shopping destination on the West Coast and boasts more than 250 boutiques including the world’s top designers like Chanel, Gucci and Louis Vuitton, plus 30 restaurants.

Innovative shopping and dining centers like SoCo Collection & The OC Mix, The Camp, and The LAB are home to hidden gems and internationally recognized culinary talent. Find unique, one-of-a-kind vendors and clothing shops on eco-friendly campuses.

Delight your palate

Costa Mesa is home to the only three Michelin Star restaurants in Orange County. Hana re Sushi is known for its exclusive, VIP dining experience, with just two tables and ten seats at the chef’s table. Guests can watch award-winning chef Atsushi Yokoyama create some of his prized omakase plates with seafood flown in straight from Japan.

At Taco Maria, guests are encouraged to try famous James Beard-nominated chef Carlos Salgado’s fresh handmade tortillas. Salgado worked in some of the San Francisco Bay area’s most exquisite eateries for a decade before coming to Orange County to leave his mark. And Knife Pleat offers French-inspired cuisine and decadent pastries and desserts in the Penthouse of South Coast Plaza. But that’s not where Costa Mesa’s culinary delights end. Enjoy Costa Mesa’s Ramen Row, where you can find more ramen spots on one street than even L.A.’s Little Tokyo or San Francisco’s Japantown. With close to 100 restaurants offering cuisine from cultures all over the world, it’s made the city a traveling foodie's dream.

Whether a food fanatic or a Broadway fan, anyone can find something that they will love in Costa Mesa. That’s the art in it — there’s something for everyone.

The beautiful backdrop of the 16-acre Rosewood Miramar Beach is Montecito, which has long been known as a slice of paradise and a celebrity retreat for nearly a century. The property was originally purchased in 1876 by Josiah and Emmeline Doulton who built one bungalow in 1878 that was used for family and friends. It was so popular that by 1910, it had been expanded to 29 structures and became the place to be for the local community and those who could drive from locations such as Los Angeles.

Fast forward and the property has continued to flourish. Although the hotel closed its doors in 2000, renovations for today’s Rosewood Miramar Beach began in 2016. The grand opening was on March 1, 2019, and the resort has become a family destination, a romantic getaway and the perfect location for weddings and special events.

There are a variety of accommodations — Lanai, Bungalow and Beach House rooms overlooking the ocean, connecting rooms for families and suites. Some open onto the beach while others provide garden courtyards; all with outdoor terraces and soaking tubs.

Dining options include the elegant Caruso’s right on the water, which serves food that Richard Fidel, managing director of Rosewood Miramar Beach, describes as Italian-Californian themed. Guests may also dine at the recently opened AMA Sushi, an Edomae-style restaurant or at The Revere Room, the main dining area in the Manor House, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Miramar Beach Bar, a more casual outdoor spot with items such as tacos and ceviche — is the best place to catch a sunset, Fidel says. Patrons can also order on the beach. >>

“We are the only beach in the region that has a license to serve food and alcohol while you relax in your chaise lounge,” Fidel says, adding that everything served is locally sourced, farm-to-table and seasonal.

“If it can’t be made organically and naturally in this local area, we’re not going to serve it.”

Also available are plenty of water and sun choices — the beach and two pools, an adult pool and a family pool. Located near the family pool is the whimsical Scoop Shop for ice cream and candy.

“The kids never want to leave,” Fidel says. “They just want to go to the pool and stay there all day, go in and out, all day and get homemade gelato and candy.”

There are several complimentary activities for families with children, including s’more making under the stars on one of two fire pits, an ice cream sundae decorating (and eating) class during afternoons at the Scoop Shop, and a kid’s bootcamp on the beach. For the adult patrons, a daily complimentary fitness class is available, which often includes yoga on the beach, Pilates or a bootcamp. A fitness studio is

accessible, and there are two Bocce courts. Bicycles are also available to rent. However, if it’s relaxing luxury that’s craved, there’s a five-star spa for massages, facials and Champagne.

Make sure to see the owner’s private art collection in the Manor House, which includes pieces by Picasso, Chagall, Rembrandt, Norman Rockwell and Botero. There are many shopping choices that include The Webster, which carries luxury items like Chanel; Brunello Cucinelli; The Gatehouse by James Perse; Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop Sundries; Laykin et Cie’s fine jewelry and The Shop at Miramar with items of logo. To shop in Montecito, hail one of the fanciful pink, blue or yellow custom Fiat Jollys at guests’ disposal and enjoy a visit to what is called the American Riviera.

At Rosewood Miramar Beach the Union Pacific Railroad goes right through the middle of the property a few times a day. Some might see it as a challenge, but kids and adults alike love it. Ring a bell and there is a railroad ambassador to make sure the gate is closed and that everybody gets across safely — it becomes an event. During the design process, engineers suggested building a wall or trying to hide it somehow, but Fidel says, “You cannot hide a train, so we embrace it and see it as one of the key things that make this place so special.”

Rosewood Miramar Beach not only caters to adults and children, but pets, too. Fidel says they are one of the most pet-friendly resorts in the world with daily dog walking, afternoon pet treks, and exclusive pet products and amenities for dogs to enjoy. >>

“Our in-room offerings to ensure your pup’s comfort include plush dog beds, bowls, mats, bottled water, treats and a toy — we even offer a custom pet food menu with options including Filet Mignon,” Fidel says.

It’s easy to understand why “special” doesn’t begin to describe the Rosewood Miramar Beach experience. Not only is the environment a vision of majestic splendor, but the personalized concierge service and commitment to personal care is a thing of beauty itself.

“We recently had a couple who was celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary,” Fidel recalls. “We got a photo of their wedding and put it in a frame, and had it waiting with a big bouquet of flowers for them for when they arrived.” g

America’s Coolest New Ice Cream Parlor Opens inDeath Valley

SOCALLIFEMAG.COM 25 OF F THE BEATEN PATH
DEATH VALLEY
An
iconic venue gets a reboot

“THE RESORT WAS ORIGINALLY BUILT BY THE PACIFIC BORAX COMPANY IN THE LATE 1920 s AND WAS  THE GETAWAY WINTER SPOT FOR HOLLYWOOD CELEBRITIES LIKE CLARK GABLE AND RONALD REAGAN, AND IS WHERE GEORGE LUCAS FILMED SCENES FROM THE ORIGINAL STAR WARS MOVIES.”

One of the hottest places on earth just got a little cooler. An old school Ice Cream Parlor soda fountain shop has opened at The Oasis at Death Valley, as part of a nearly six-year $150-million renovation at the resort, which encompasses two hotels — The AAA Four-Diamond historic Inn at Death Valley and the family style Ranch at Death Valley.

The Ranch has 80 new bungalow-style, stand-alone cottages, steps away from the revitalized mission style town square that includes new retail shops, a restored saloon and a restaurant. Originally a working ranch that was built in the 1930s, most of its structures were built in the 1950s. It offers 275 rooms in low-slung one- and two-story buildings arranged around sprawling lawns, with many of the rooms opening onto patios, while others have balconies overlooking the grounds.

The Ice Cream Parlor at the Ranch, known for years as Furnace Creek, is a sweet and nostalgic addition to the Oasis, with a variety of shakes like peanut butter cup, creamsicle and Badwater Caramel, banana splits, soda floats, sundaes and 20 different types of ice cream including date, huckleberry birthday cake and brownie extreme. The grill offers lunch options like burgers, grilled cheese, hot dogs and chili.

SOCALLIFEMAG.COM 26 OF F THE BEATEN PATH DEATH VALLEY

Adjacent to the new 1849 restaurant that offers breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet is the updated version of the Ranch’s Western-style bar, now known as The Last Kind Words Saloon. With soaring ceilings and hearty fine-dining options like rib eye and flat iron steaks, filet mignon, prime rib and baby back ribs, it’s a welcome addition to starving and thirsty travelers at the end of a long journey through the National Park.

The resort was originally built by the Pacific Borax Company in the late 1920s and was the getaway winter spot for Hollywood celebrities like Clark Gable and Ronald Reagan, and is where George Lucas filmed scenes from the original Star Wars movies. The oldest structure in Death Valley is now the Borax museum that sits on the Ranch property.

The historic, four-diamond mission-style high-end Inn at Death Valley sits up on a hill overlooking the Ranch and it reopened at the end of 2018 after a major restoration. The property, privately owned by Xanterra Travel Collection, has 66 elegantly updated rooms, renovated fine dining restaurant and cocktail lounge, new Tranquility Spa, verandas with panoramic views of Death Valley and the Panamint Mountains, opulent gardens, and a spring-fed pool (naturally at 87 degrees) bordered by a new pool cafe and numerous cabanas.

Twenty-two private, one-bedroom new casitas were built in the shadow of the Oasis Gardens’ date palms, within walking distance to the pool. Each casita comes with a golf cart (cars can’t get down to these rooms), as well as room options with either one king bed or two queen beds. In addition to the main sleeping quarters, each casita also has a living room with a sleeper sofa, as well as a wet bar. There are also renovated suites in the main building. >>

SOCALLIFEMAG.COM 27 OF F THE BEATEN PATH DEATH VALLEY

The Inn Dining Room has expanded with additional seating areas including outdoor options, and a new pool cafe has been added featuring sandwiches, wraps, salads, sides and assorted beverages If you’re dining at the Inn, the Death Valley Date Cake is a local valley must. The gooey cake comes with caramel sauce, orange zested dates and candied pecans in a light cardamom cream. You can burn off the calories the next day with a quick morning hike to Zabriskie Point.

Across the road from the terraced stone inn is a new wedding and event venue, the stunning Mission Gardens. A palo verde punctuated courtyard open to the desert skies and surrounding mountains, the gardens are enclosed by Spanish-style, white-washed adobe walls that feature details crafted from Mojave Desert stones. Improvements of the property are ongoing. The Wild Rose Hall is currently being transformed into the new 19th Hole and Pro Shop.

Because water is precious in the desert, sustainability is in focus at The Oasis. Every drop of the pool water in the two naturally spring-fed pools is purposefully used and carefully managed. The spring water is not chlorinated, eventually flowing through the pools to be used for a variety of other non-potable functions, like landscaping and irrigation of the neighboring Furnace Creek Golf Course (which also is an Audubon

approved bird sanctuary and is the world’s lowest golf course, at 214 feet, that has been welcoming golf enthusiasts since 1927).

Any extra is released so that it replenishes the aquifer beneath the valley floor. The property has a one MW solar PV system that generates more than one-third of the total annual electricity needs of the Inn, The Ranch, the golf course, employee offices and housing. The system was designed to withstand the harsh conditions of Death Valley and produces more than two million kilowatt-hours per year of clean renewable energy. g

Wandering West Hollywood

Nestled in the heart of Los Angeles, SoCal explorers can find themselves immersed in one of the Southland’s most eclectic cities.

SOCALLIFEMAG.COM 33 THE HOOD
WEHO

Tucked between Beverly Hills and Hollywood, West Hollywood is filled with a diverse range of entertainment. Whether you desire a pop culture history lesson, delicious eats, sophisticated shopping, art, architecture, fitness classes, celeb packed events or a vibrant nightlife, West Hollywood — WeHo — offers several of the LA regions greatest hot spots.

At the base of the Hollywood Hills, WeHo is well loved and celebrated as home to the Sunset Strip, the Design District and Santa Monica Boulevard.

The world-famous landmark, the Sunset Strip, draws melophiles with legendary music venues like The Roxy Theatre, Whisky a Go Go and The Viper Room. If you haven’t visited the Sunset Strip, you have probably seen it portrayed in many movies and shows. On the strip visitors can enjoy live music, unique hotels, fabulous dining, high-end shopping, nightclubs and spas. Fun fact: The Las Vegas Strip was named after the Sunset Strip.

The Design District offers fashion, architecture, dining, designer flagships, local boutiques, art galleries, chic eateries and luxury hotels.

Located in the Design District between Santa Monica Boulevard and Melrose Avenue, Kimpton La Peer Hotel, places guests (and their Fido-friends) in the perfect position to explore WeHo. The boutique hotel offers visitors a chic lobby lounge to enjoy daily coffee, Kombucha and nitro coffee on tap, nightly social hour, an outdoor pool to experience perfect SoCal weather, complimentary bikes, a fitness center and rooftop garden with 360 degree views. Inside the rooms, travelers can appreciate the large soaking tubs within the shower — especially after walking around WeHo.

There are a few different options on property for dining. The Design Lounge, expanding through the hotel courtyard and lobby, invites guests to health-focused breakfast and lunch items. Sunbathers can experience the Design Lounge menu while lounging by the pool. In the evening, a range of dishes, appetizers and cocktails can be enjoyed in the Design Lounge. Located inside La Peer, Issima transports visitors to the coastline with Mediterranean-inspired fare while they dine in the private rooftop lounge or poolside tables.

Two of WeHo’s best restaurants are located on Melrose, a quick walk from Kimpton La Peer Hotel. Tantalize your taste buds at Gracias Madre with some of the best vegan eats LA has to offer. The plant-based Mexican eatery uses fresh local and organic ingredients to create tasty plates that even avid meat eaters can appreciate. The beautiful bar makes creative cocktails showcasing the finest tequila. Catch LA is a rooftop bar with an open-air dining room. The restaurant boasts picture-worthy views, a bustling atmosphere, beautiful décor and eats. The menu consists of seafood, sushi and steak options — all aesthetically pleasing and mouthwatering. Though Catch LA is open during the day, the evening hours showcase glimmering lights, stunning city

views and a lively crowd. Reservations are suggested for both beloved spots. Other notable restaurants include E.P. & L.P. and SUR — both great for cocktails and catching up.

West Hollywood is one of Los Angeles’ smallest neighborhoods and has a vivacious personality of its own attracting crowds year-round. Celebrated for being one of the most inclusive cities and filled with LGBTQIA+ activists, WeHo boasts one of the largest Pride celebrations in June and Halloween Carnaval in October.

Other notable nearby attractions include the Pacific Design Center, Rainbow Crosswalk, LACMA, Hollywood Forever

Cemetery, Hollywood Bowl, Runyon Canyon, The Last Bookstore, Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Magic Castle.

A short drive from West Hollywood, explorers can enjoy the iconic Hollywood Sign hike. The hike is about four miles (depending on direction taken) of California sunshine and city views that takes two to three hours to complete. SoCal is known and loved for its warm weather, but consider the temperature when choosing when to hike. October through April’s cooler weather is most ideal, but heat can sneak up, so be sure to stay hydrated.

While LA gets a bad rap for traffic, the city of West Hollywood is best sightseen on foot. Named California’s most walkable city, WeHo is 1.9 square miles of wide-ranging entertainment. Ditch the LA traffic, pricey ride shares and parking tickets, and opt to explore on foot. For vacationers, the closest airports are LAX and Hollywood Burbank Airport, both taking about 25 minutes.

Southern California is bursting with unique cities to experience. West Hollywood’s welcoming atmosphere invites both locals and out-of-towners to indulge in delicious eats while exploring the bold city that blends art, architecture and trailblazing fashion. “Bardessono’s pool deck, one of the only rooftop pools in the Napa region, features a hot tub and stunning views of the surrounding hillsides and wineries.”

Articulating refined elegance, Bardessono Hotel & Spa is a stylish resort with a consistent and contemporary edge. The property is filled with eclectic gardens, ponds and waterfalls, and visitors who walk across the grounds may feel as though they’re touring an art museum. Sculptures by local Bay Area artists pepper the outdoor spaces, and under the direction of the famed Andrea Schwartz gallery, are updated periodically.

Bardessono has 62 all-suite, dog-friendly guestrooms and three villas. Each guestroom offers plush 100% organic Egyptian cotton bed linens, a relaxing seating area, Nespresso coffee makers, a media hub and a motion-controlled exterior shuttering system. Bathrooms are oversized and feature soaking tubs, high-end organic bath amenities, and steam showers that have a door leading to an outdoor shower in the guestroom’s private patio. While showering outdoors may sound a bit intimidating, it’s actually a refreshing experience in an extremely secluded setting.

The patios and large bathrooms in the guestrooms can also serve as areas to enjoy personal spa services. Choose from an array of facial and body therapies such as The Ageless — an intensive age-correcting facial, and the Garden Wrap — an invigorating skin brushing therapy that stimulates the lymphatic system and flushes toxins from the body. The lineup of massage treatments and bathing therapies can be arranged in the privacy of one’s guest room or within the serene surroundings of B Spa, located below the pool deck.

Bardessono’s pool deck, one of the only rooftop pools in the Napa region, features a hot tub and stunning views of the surrounding hillsides and wineries. Cabana rentals are available for an additional fee, and food and beverage service is offered poolside on Saturdays and Sundays.

A wellness program offers yoga sessions and guided meditations to help guests maintain their emotional and physical conditioning.

Bardessono Hotel & Spa sits at the heart of Yountville within reach of more than 400 wineries in the 30-mile-long Napa Valley. Although the hotel’s Lexus partnership offers a car service to guests, Bardessono is in walking distance to boutiques, art galleries, wine shops and tasting rooms. Besides sampling some of the most recognizable names in wines, there are also hidden gems that deserve a visit.

Hestan Tasting Salon offers tastings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, all grown at Hestan Estate Vineyards in Napa Valley’s remote Eastern slopes. Hestan and Meyer labels are the product of renowned winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown, whose philosophy is that quality wine begins in the vineyard.

The salon also features HestanChef, a line of freestanding ranges designed for personal and commercial use, as well Thomas Kinkaid-approved Hestan Cookware, which is utilized in the kitchens of French Laundry, Bouchon, Per Se and The Surf Club restaurants.

A few blocks away, Handwritten Wines, owned by four couples who met in medical school and shared a passion for good wines, offer tastings by appointment. A selection of reservations are available: The Classic Experience features 5 pre-poured wines with a focus on the District Cabernet Sauvignons sourced from 2-acre blocks. Wines are accompanied with truffle potato chips and fluffa crackers. The Short Story Experience features three wines from the Handwritten Portfolio accompanied by truffle chips and fluffa crackers.

Handwritten’s Bread and Butter Experience features five wines in a side-by-side comparative format. Wines are accompanied with white truffle potato chips, Bouchon Bakery baguette, three artisan domestic butters, Stagberry Salame, and 12 month aged reserve Gouda cheese. The Pinot Noir Experience presents four vintages of Pinot Noirs from the same vineyard in Sta. Rita Hills in Santa Barbara County. This flight of Pinot Noirs is paired with a vertical tasting of Gouda cheeses from Oakdale Cheese Company. This experience also includes a taste of Relié Cuvée Champagne.

Postcards are available during the tasting experiences as the winery believes that handwritten notes become valuable keepsakes.

Besides wine tasting and shopping, Yountville, considered the “Culinary Capital” of Napa, features world-renowned eateries such as Bottega, Bistro Jeanty, R+D Kitchen, and Thomas Keller’s Bouchon Bakery and Ad Hoc.

Fantastic dining experience can be found right on the Bardessono Hotel & Spa property at Lucy Restaurant & Bar. Executive Chef Jim Leiken’s garden-inspired cuisine offers a farm-to-table menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. He believes in a conscious cooking ideology and uses simple, locally sourced ingredients when possible.

Lucy’s unique menu features options such as the Pig and Peaches, Watermelon and Cucumber Salad, Bouef de Jour, Pan-seared Duck Breast and Steamed Mussels.

Refreshing artisanal cocktails and an extensive wine list are also available.

Bardessono offers guests complimentary fresh baked pastries at Lucy’s daily from 6:30 a.m. - 9 a.m.

BAJA CALIFORNIA PENINSULA

Anchored between the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific Ocean, Península de Baja California has long been considered one of the most popular getaways in Northwestern Mexico.

It’s particularly favored by Southern Californians since a flight into Los Cabos Airport is a less than three-hour journey from LAX. Given its abundance of world-class restaurants, variety of lodging choices, and infinite recreation options, this is the place to go for an exceptional Mexican vacation.

Industrial Chic Hideaway

Drift San Jose Del Cabo

SAN JOSE DEL CABO HAS LONG BEEN CONSIDERED THE RESTFUL SIDE OF LOS CABOS. AND, ALTHOUGH IT’S JUST 25 MILES NORTH OF CABO SAN LUCAS, IT FEELS LIKE A WORLD AWAY.

SOCALLIFEMAG.COM 59 THE WEEKENDER BAJA PENINSULA

Artistic and quaint, San Jose Del Cabo is a town easy to explore on foot. From its cobblestone streets to the brightly colored flags that wave above the crosswalks, this town is an authentically Mexican region. The locals are friendly, the food is flavorful, and the vibe is easy. There is street art at every turn, and the wall murals are not just creative, they fill the area with color and whimsy.

The artwork serves as a guide to visitors who are unfamiliar with the neighborhood, and tourists can easily learn their way around town by locating the Mission San Jose del Cabo Añuití. This historic landmark was established during the colonial period of the history of Mexico in the early 1700s. Adjacent to the Mission is the Plaza Mijaris San Jose, the bustling square that features boutiques, art galleries, cafes, a variety of restaurants, and vendors selling local handcrafts.

One of the most unique hotels in Los Cabos is about a five-minute walk from the plaza. Drift, located in the heart of the Art District, features edgy architecture consisting of concrete and iron, and the minimal decor is colored in hues of cream and rose. The boutique hotel features 29 rooms and the property is sustainability-focused and eco-friendly.

There is no front desk at Drift, yet the service is impeccable. Prior to checking in, guests get acquainted with “Eva,” a digital concierge available via text to each guest. Eva provides a unique code to the keyless guest room entry and is on call 24/7 to service any need great or small.

Upon arrival, a friendly staff member meets guests at the entrance to the garden, offers each a welcome drink, and escorts the parties to their respective rooms.

At the heart of the property is a beautiful pool where guests hang out during the day making new acquaintances and friends. The outdoor space features palm and mango trees, and handmade pottery is displayed throughout.

Drift Mezcal Bar is located in the garden and Jose Munoz, Drift’s mezcal master, is on hand to serve any one of the 30 brands he stocks.

Thursday evenings from November through May are special in San Jose Del Cabo. This is the night the entire city honors its artistry with an Art Walk, as locals and visitors peruse the streets and view works of art of every kind in shops and on sidewalks.

Drift extends the celebration by featuring taco night on Thursdays year-round. LAB, a local eatery

and coffee house, caters the event which features music and a full bar, and guests get to know each other as they drink, dance and dine.

Drift provides a complimentary continental breakfast, which can be enjoyed in the garden or taken back to the guestroom. A full-service restaurant and bar serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and a robust cocktail menu is set to open in the fall of 2022. It will consist of a large dining area, outdoor kitchen, comfortable lounge seating, shade structure, and a walk-up window for street service. It promises to be the perfect spot for dinner parties and weddings.

From the first step into the entry, Corazón Cabo Resort & Spa carries guests off to a world where art and architecture reign. With a coastal color palette and art gallery style seating, the lobby’s geometric contours are adorned with contemporary sculptures that announce the exceptional style guests can expect of the resort. A proud member of the Noble House Hotels & Resorts’ elite collection, Corazón Cabo Resort & Spa has recently completed a $100 million expansion led by Mexican architect Arnoldo Rábago. It now features a brand-new tower with additional guest rooms that raise the tally to 310 guestrooms, including 17 luxury suites. The new construction has also given the property an increase of 7,450 square feet of meeting space by the additions of a ballroom, boardrooms, two infinity pools and a snazzy rooftop bar.

Just beyond the lobby doors, a staircase leads to an infinity pool with an adjacent poolside bar and a captivating ocean view. For an even more panoramic vista of the seascape, head to the rooftop.

Rooftop 360, the highest rooftop bar in Cabo, crowns the ninestories-high hotel. Besides featuring signature cocktails and bites, the deck offers unmatched views of the Sea of Cortez and the city skyline, especially at sunset when the Cabo sky turns fiery red. Baja Brewing Company, the only microbrewery in Baja California Sur, sits at the center of the deck with lounge chairs that flank the infinity pool on one side, and tables and chairs at the other. String lights and chandeliers drop from the pergola ceiling, which is made of Palo-de-Arco, a Baja native plant with shiny green foliage and yellow flowers.

The guestrooms, which range in size from 358 to 945 square feet, feature floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors, plush bedding, and spacious bathrooms with luxurious amenities. Each room and every balcony is appointed with custom furniture and art pieces created by local artisans.

There are eight restaurants and bars at the Corazón Cabo Resort & Spa that offer dining from both casual and lavish menus. These include:

Aleta

A waterfront restaurant with lovely views of Medano Beach and the Sea of Cortez. Aleta features an open kitchen that serves fresh, daily caught seafood and authentic Mexican dishes.

Corazón Beach Club

Daybeds, lounge chairs, a live DJ, and a full-service bar and kitchen are available to guests who want to spend the day on the sand. This always-buzzing beach club sits on Medano Beach, the only swimmable shore in Cabo San Lucas. This is where the party begins!

Camaleón Café

Located in the Corazón lobby, Camaleón Café features Starbucks coffee and drinks including espressos, cappuccinos, lattes, assorted teas and more. A retail area offers a selection of apparel, jewelry, hats and other sundries.

In addition to eating, drinking, or lounging at the pool or beachside, the concierge can arrange private or group yacht charters, sport fishing excursions and shopping expeditions. After a day of play, guests can relax at Sparitual — the hotel’s full-service spa. Treatments include massages, facials, body wraps and a variety of salon services.

With an expansive roster of entertainment options for every traveler’s taste, the hotel has earned the “Best Nightlife in Cabo San Lucas” by USA Today’s 10 Best Awards 2022. A remarkable honor, considering Cabo San Lucas’ general party repute.

Mediterranean Diningin San Jose Del Cabo

SITUATED IN THE SPECTACULAR VICEROY LOS CABOS, DALIA RESTAURANT IS THE NEWEST DINING TREND IN SAN JOSE DEL CABO.

Dining guests come to Dalia for its innovative menu and are met with an exquisitely indulgent experience in addition to enjoying the food. The restaurant sits in an open-air terrace surrounded by water features, local plants and swaying palm trees — and the ambiance is serene yet breathtaking. And since Dalia is in the heart of one of the most enchanting hotels in Cabo, an evening view of the Viceroy after dark is an other-world experience.

Dalia’s menu is a credit to Executive Chef Carlos Terán. Born in Mexico City, he was trained in a culinary master’s program in Barcelona, Spain, and gained his gastronomic expertise in a variety of Michelin-starred kitchens including Cocina de Autor in Amsterdam. He opened Arbol in Las Ventanas al Paraiso and Milos at the Four Seasons Hotel in La Rivera, which were both remarkably successful. Chef Terán’s upscale cuisine blends Mediterranean fare with his unique Baja-inspired spin.

Dalia’s menu includes unique dishes such as Totoaba with Saffron Farrotto, a blend of shrimp, baby squid, mussels, edamame and artichoke hearts; and Greek Lamb Shanks, braised with lemon and herbs and served with Israeli couscous. The Athenian Lobster Pasta is prepared with tomato sauce, “metaxa” brandy and butter, and the Agnoloti combines Beef Ragout, pork belly, tomato sauce and grana Padano.

There is an extensive list of shareable items that include Mediterranean spreads, assorted oysters and a seafood platter. Desserts feature a Greek Yogurt Cake with olive oil ice cream and a Chufa Crème Cake with chocolate crumble and tres leche pavlova.

Hand-crafted cocktails are not only delicious but they’re delivered as an artistic presentation that seemingly enhances the drink. Regional wines and soft drinks are also available.

Rounding off the magical experience at Dalia is the impeccable service. The restaurant recently opened in February 2022 and the staff’s attention to detail is nothing short of amazing. A visit to San Jose Del Cabo is simply incomplete without a visit to  Dalia Restaurant. g

Historic Charm in Downtown Todos Santos

Guaycura Boutique Hotel Beach Club & Spa

AN EASY 30MINUTE DRIVE FROM CABO SAN LUCAS LEADS TO A SMALL TOWN LINED WITH MANGO, PAPAYA, AVOCADO AND PALM TREES. TODOS SANTOS, BRIMMING WITH HISTORY AND AUTHENTIC MEXICAN CULTURE, HAS BEEN DUBBED PUEBLO MÁGICO (MAGICAL TOWN) FOR GOOD REASON.

SOCALLIFEMAG.COM 68 THE WEEKENDER BAJA PENINSULA
SOCALLIFEMAG.COM 69 THE WEEKENDER BAJA PENINSULA

Located on the Pacific coast of the Baja California Peninsula and at the foothills of the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains, Todos Santos is a historic community that has retained its old-world charm through the ages. With cobblestone streets, brightly painted buildings, bougainvillea crawling against ancient walls, and the occasional remnants of structures built in the late 1700s, this town is not to be missed on any visit to the Baja Peninsula.

Downtown Todos Santos consists of traditional brick and mortar buildings, and most have been restored and converted into shops, restaurants and small hotels. The rugged sidewalks are arrayed with boutiques and art galleries, and a casual walk across town evokes a sense of antiquity.

A friendly, fun-loving community, the customs and traditions of the Todos Santos region are reflected in the many celebrations that take place annually. These include food, wine, film, music, art and even a mango festival.

Maintaining the traditional Todos Santos spirit, Guaycura Boutique Hotel Beach Club & Spa, situated in a 19th century red brick building in the heart of the city, is the place to stay for an immersive cultural vacation. The first glimpse of the region’s heritage can be found in the lobby, which features original work by local and national artists.

With just 14 guest rooms, all pet friendly, the hotel staff offers guests distinctive care and personal attention. Rooms range from classic to deluxe, each featuring custom Mexican decor. The Oasis Suite is perfect for families.

The Guaycura’s concierge office helps facilitates recreation activities for hotel guests. With so much to do in and around town, visitors will want to spend at least four days to get the lay of the land. Activities like hiking, ATV rentals, camel rides, cycling, boat rentals, horseback rides, luxury sailing and ziplining are just the beginning. And because Todos Santos is a surf destination, beginners can head to Cerritos Beach while professional surfers can enjoy the more challenging Pastoras surf site. The town of La Paz is a scenic one-hour drive away and ferry rides to the island are a big hit.

There are two restaurants at Guaycura Hotel. El Jardin Café offers tasty baked goods and breakfast selections between 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; and The Sky Lounge Bar, located at the hotel’s rooftop next to the open-air pool, is open daily from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. This is the spot to catch the stunning Baja sunsets while sipping Guaycura’s famous farm to glass cocktails or dining on traditional Mexican dishes by Executive Chef Raul Ernesto Torres.

An award-winning culinary genius, Chef Torres is the creator and author of BajaMed Cuisine, a gastronomic concept he created that blends Mexican, Mediterranean and Asian cuisine. His creations feature organic herbs and vegetables like hibiscus flowers, beets, onions, a variety of greens, corn and basil, which are all grown in the hotel’s garden.

Restaurant guests are welcome to dine at the hotel’s off-premises restaurant, El Mirador, located

about two miles from Guaycura. This premier fine dining experience features Mexiterranean creations and the menu, also managed by Chef Torres, features dishes like Smoked Tuna Tartar, Vegetarian Lasagna, Grilled Octopus and Fresh Oysters.

El Mirador sits atop a hillside overlooking the white sand and rolling ocean waves. There is no other location in Todos Santos that offers a view as spectacular as this, especially when the sky morphs into pink and orange hues, and the sun sets behind the sea. El Mirador has been the location of some of the most beautiful weddings in Todos Santos, especially with the incomparable oceanic backdrop.

To extend the coastal experience, Guaycura guests can utilize the hotel’s El Faro Beach Club & Spa, located within minutes of El Mirador Restaurant on the coast of Punta Lobos. The beach club is a serene and private haven on the sand that features a poolside seafood grill and bar, an infinity pool and a fully functioning lighthouse. Shoreside lounge chairs and cabanas are perfectly placed to provide the ultimate beachfront relaxation experience. Towels, showers and dressing rooms are available to guests.

When it’s time to take leisure to the next level, Aena Spa, located at the beach club, offers an assortment of indulgent facial and massage treatments.

Guaycura Hotel, El Faro Beach Club & Spa and El Mirador Restaurant are committed to sustainability and minimizing the company’s carbon footprint. The management is active in philanthropic efforts and animal welfare, and they sponsor a number of local charities as well as the seasonal turtle release at the nearby beaches.

As a green and globally conscious company, the Guaycura Group is not only helping to preserve the community, they also seek to make sure travelers to Todos Santos take in all the majesty of the region. g

SANTA BARBARA SANTA BARBARA HARBOR PARADE OF LIGHTS

WHEN: Sunday, December 11, 2022; 12:00 – 9:00 p.m.

WHERE: Santa Barbara Harbor 125 Harbor Way, Santa Barbara, CA 93101

Wintertime in Santa Barbara overflows with holiday merriment. The Santa Barbara Harbor Parade of Lights is a long-standing tradition, and one of the city’s signature annual events. The 2022 Parade marks its 36th year. Each December, Santa Barbara’s Christmas celebrations converge on the water for a festive, family-friendly event filled with fun, free activities and fireworks. Hundreds of families gather to watch boats sail in the annual Parade of Lights at Steams Wharf and the Santa Barbara Harbor. Beginning at noon, families can explore a “Winter Wonderland.” Holiday elves, 10 tons of snow and holiday music add to the atmosphere. It is rumored that Santa may even make an appearance. When day becomes night, and the stars sparkle above, around 30 illuminated vessels will light up the mysterious dark water. The boat parade concludes with a brief fireworks show. This visual feast — and spirited community tradition — is a holiday event not to be missed!

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA THE POLAR EXPRESS TRAIN RIDE

WHEN: Sunday, November 20, 2022 — Wednesday, December 28, 2022; Times vary WHERE: Southern California Railway Museum 2201 South A St., Perris, CA 92570

Relive the magical cinematic experience of The Polar Express at the Southern California Railway Museum — returning this holiday season. Set to the sounds of the motion picture soundtrack, The Polar Express Train Ride is a one hour trip transporting passengers on an enchanting journey through the classic story. Once guests are settled on board, their “golden ticket” will be punched by car hosts before dancing chefs serve hot chocolate and a delicious cookie. It is best to come to the event with a full stomach, because the sweet treats are the only food served. After the snack, it's a read-along of the classic children’s book, The Polar Express, written and illustrated by Chris Van Allsburg. Santa and his helpers board the train to add more holiday cheer along the journey. Just like in the film, characters on each car create an immersive theatrical onboard entertainment experience during the trip. Railway riders are encouraged to wear warm pajamas, like in the book and film. The more you get into the experience, the more magical it is. Prices vary, depending upon dates and times of the rides, ranging from $50 to $74 for an adult, and $43 to $65 for a child ages two to 11. Check their website for specific price tiers. Groups of 20 or more can book via phone. Each guest takes home a keepsake sleigh bell, in addition to the wonderful memories made on this magical trip!

NO ONE knows real estate marketing like Rosemary...

NO ONE sells like Rosemary... NO ONE advertises like Rosemary... NO ONE is connected to buyers and sellers like Rosemary!

I’ve found it’s no secret that an essential quality of any successful business lies within its ability to not only forge new relationships, but to maintain and grow them as well, Rosemary has done that throughout her career. Rosemary Allison is the reminder that relationships matter, community service matters, her 昀nancial support of our neighborhood schools matter and being an advocate for her clients and their homes matters.

I could go on and on but I think you get the picture... Once we listed our home with Rosemary, she not only found our buyer within 2 weeks from her steller advertising, but her connections provided our buyer the lender who could help her purchase our home in less than 30 days. Rosemary Allison, we cannot “thank you and your team” enough for your professionalism in not only 昀nding the right buyer but seeing each and every detail through to the end. Your work ethic and tenacity to get the job done was incredible. My family and I are forever indebted to you for seeing this through.
