DELIVERY We will take the bulls home, feed, and deliver them free within 150 miles. We will start delivery around April 15th and work with you to get them to your yard or pastures. If you are unable to receive your bull at that time there will be a $2/day feed charge from that point on. Any bulls coming back to the ranch MUST be insured.

Our cattle run in the Battle River Valley so structure is key as they have to walk up and down hills grazing and for water. We don’t pamper our cows; they run like our commercial herd, on grass as long as possible then bale or corn grazing until calving. Our cows don’t get second chances, they raise a quality calf and come in bred on time or they go down the road. Our aim is to have cattle that are functional and sound for a very long time, easy doing cattle that convert feed into pounds while catching a grade. We use the best sires we can, through both AI and natural service and use embryo transfer to increase our rate of genetic advancement. We work with the Lloydminster Animal Hospital to provide a complete herd health program.

Welcome Wow! What an amazing year 2014 has been! A Big Thank You to all of the bidders & buyers from our 1st Built Right Sale. Thank you for putting your trust in our program and in us, it is you that made our first sale such a huge success! Of course the record high cattle prices this fall has put a spring in everyone’s step & been the topic of many conversations.

We are so excited to be a part of this industry at this time!

We entered a new chapter of our agricultural career this year as we have started doing a bit of grain farming and Kurt has pretty much quit working off farm. We’ve had an amazing year in the show ring with our calves doing fantastic in both Stockade Roundup and Farmfair International. We added to our herd this fall by purchasing a handful of females from select sales and a small group from a herd dispersal in Yorkton, SK. To top it all off we kicked off the New Year with welcoming another son into our family with the arrival of Tell at the beginning of January.

We’d love to have you stop by and look at the bulls anytime, give us enough notice and there may be some cinnamon buns waiting. We are extremely pleased to present the first set of bulls from this meat machine. We brought this bull out from Quebec and are very excited about the calves that are coming from him to date. He is a true calving ease sire. His calves come moderate at birth and like there sire will have lots of early development and mature out to a moderate frame. We are extremely happy with the ease of fleshing on this bull and are confident he will pass this trait on to his calves. We are excited about the length of spine and maternal strengths of this sire and feel he will be a mainstay in our program for years to come. We exhibited three daughters of “Prince” this fall where they found many friends. We offered two up for auction averaging $6300. PED 320B was Reserve Junior Heifer Calf at Stockade Roundup and PED 292B was Reserve Legends of the Fall Angus Heifer and Champion Black Angus in the Headliner Sale as well as high selling calf.

This stretchy bull is home raised out of our good Tibbie 5W cow that, unfortunately, we lost last summer. We wanted to use him to reintroduce the maternal strengths of his mother, and his outcross ‘Bob’ sire.

Tibbie is a full sister to Remitall’s high seller a few years back at the Black Magic Sale. There are very few ‘Bob’ sons in all of Canada and we were very impressed in what he has done. Yankee has been used here and at our good friend, Vern Davies’, place for the last couple years and we have been very pleased with the results.

His calves are long made with good hair and lots of hip.

We bought this calving ease bull from Ring Creek up at Fairview. He is a direct son of Tiger the Grand Champion bull at the 2009 World Angus Forum. Dogwood saw service here and at our partner’s, Clifford Land and Cattle, as a yearling and we still were able to show him after breeding at both places. His calm and quiet attitude and easy fleshing ability are traits I believe we all look for. His calves seem to be all a little shorter gestation which is an added bonus when it comes to calving ease as well. We are really excited to see what his females are going to do for us in the future.

We farm on the original Johnson homestead that was settled in 1906. Our son Wyatt is the 5th generation on this farm. Our land base is around 2500 acres of grain, pasture, and hay, plus we use the the community pasture in CFB Wainright. Around 2007 Wyatt decided to take his 4-H money and purchase some Simmental cows and heifers. Bernice and I decided to jump on board and purchase some as well, thus the creation of WJ Simmentals. The foundation of our herd came from XXX Farms, Campbell Simmentals, Siam Farms, and Grinalta Farms. Our Charolais herd also started with bred heifers from XXX Farms. Over the years we’ve had a small backgrounder program of around 300 head in the winter. In the spring we would buy heifers and sell them as breds in the fall, thus giving us lots of experience with many different aspects of the cattle industry.

Welcome Welcome to the 2nd annual Built Right Bull Sale. We feel we have a very solid set of bulls to offer this year. This set of bulls comes off a herd of 200 females with our focus being sound footed, good udders, and calving ease. You will notice that most of our bulls are polled. The bulls have been fed a balanced TMR of 1/3 barley and 2/3 oat silage with a mineral supplement designed by Mark Rajotte to let them grow and develop properly. The cattle industry is sure on fire these days with prices I don’t think anyone ever thought we would see! With the extra cash we all have in our pockets this year it’s a good time to put a little extra into replacing them old herd bulls with a younger one! Our senior Polled Fleckvieh herd sire. Junior is a polled Full Fleckvieh bull we raised ourselves. Even though we had lots of people wanting to buy him we felt he was the polled Fleck bull we had been searching for! This is his first set of calves for us and we have been really impressed. His calves come out easy and get going right away. He has our strongest group of fleck calves on our farm this year.

We bought Uncanny as a mature herd bull from Silver Shadow Charolais. All but three of this year’s offering is off this bull. He combines calving ease, (can use him on heifers) with plenty of growth and muscle in a Polled package. His calves are quiet, have good hair, bulls have muscle, thickness and depth of body. The heifers are very feminine, thick and deep as well. Unfortunately we lost him due to injuryafter this one breeding season.

A very stylish “Garth” son that can go in the heifer pen! If you have some exotic heifers or big Angus heifers this guy should work. His sire we bought for our Red Program but after one calf crop he had so much calving ease we used him in our heifer pen successfully this year. A bull that still has enough performance to bring in calves that will weigh up in the fall!

Every year we like to breed some of our reds to Fleckvieh bulls.

We find it puts the best of both together for a very complete package for our commercial customers. This end of MARCH calf is off the same dam as one of our high sellers last year going to Glenn and Cindy Stonehouse. There isn’t too much more I can say about this guy I think he is just plain good.

We sold this guy’s mom as a bred heifer to Colton Sather last year. Part of the deal with Colton was if she lies down and has a bull calf he was welcome to bring it back to the farm and put it in our sale. I knew when he picked her we were giving up a female that will be hard to replace. As a young enthusiastic cattle producer we couldn’t say no. We are very pleased with this calf.

He shows what Label Me Teddy can do. Another guy that can probably go in either pen.

Herd Bull Prospect! This guy is backed by many greats in his pedigree. He has a hind quarter that belongs on a Fullblood bull. He has nice long straight hair and plenty of ribs. This guy will be one of our feature black bulls this year. Full Money not only gives us very fancy but good calves, he also leaves us with very nice mannered calves as well. Take a good look here as he is one heck of a bull.

Our first group of females are calving from Full Money this year and WOW. They have perfect square udders, with great suspension, tiny little teats and lots of milk. We can’t be happier.

This heifer’s first calf is another Sale Feature for us. We should have called him Big Butt as his quarter is impressive, tying it all into a moderate frame with nice rib shape, lots of hair and the much desired money stripe. Wyatt is not a black fan but told me when we were picturing these bulls that he may just want to start raising blacks if he could make them all like this guy! He will find friends on sale day that is for sure.

The other off age bull in the offering. His dam was also slated to be flushed but as I said earlier we were unable to get that done and we let her get bred later instead. His sire is Granite so this guy is actually Half Fleckvieh. This bull has plenty of power but doesn’t give up the very important calving ease. If you need a black bull to get a few more cows bred this guy will work.

We had our main herd bull go down with an injury toward the end of breeding season so we borrowed XXX 201Z from XXX farms. When writing these footnotes his DNA has not come back yet so at this point he cannot be papered but is Purebred. A LATE MARCH calf he will grow into a good thick bull with lots of hair.

If you’re not breeding till July he will be plenty old enough to get some cows bred for his new owner.
