With careful selection of our foundation females our herd was established in 2017. Our history with stud Angus cattle, the beef industry and agriculture has developed from many years of friendship and employment from industry leaders in the business, who along the way have helped shaped who we are and what we hope to develop in the AARDEN Angus brand. We make our living from farming, and together manage our family business Schoen Pastoral in Corowa NSW. Our philosophy on breeding Angus cattle is to have a Modern balanced approach to phenotype, and genotype, we want to breed cattle that reflect what the EBVs tell us they will pass onto their progeny. We expect maternal strength, with all the basics that we should demand from our females to guarantee longevity and profitabilityfeet, temperament, udder quality, fertility with the ability to yield. Beef cattle must have beef!

Ardcairnie Angus

The Ardcairnie Angus stud is a family-owned and operated seed-stock and commercial Angus enterprise run by Joe and Jessica Dewar and Joe’s father Frank Dewar. The farm is located 100kms north of Perth, on the Moore River at Guilderton. The Dewars are a pioneering farming family that have been breeding cattle since settling in Gingin, Western Australia in the 1840’s, making Joe a seventh generation farmer. The opportunity to expand their enterprise occurred in 2020, when Ardcairnie Angus stud was placed on the market. As long-time commercial cattle breeders, purchasing Ardcairnie Angus stud was a good opportunity to continue our goal of breeding high quality cattle. The Dewars purchased the entire herd of 400 registered breeders. The Ardcairnie Angus stud journey began in 1985 when Jim and Pam McGregor of Kojonup established the stud. Joe and Frank shared a similar breeding philosophy to that of Jim and Pam, and that is to present structurally sound animals in working condition to increase their chance of a long and fertile life and thrive in tough environments. The cattle have been bred to withstand unfavourable seasonal conditions without the need for extra supplementary feeding or maintenance. No excuses are given for those who are not up to the challenge. The Dewars also run 500 commercial Angus breeders and a flock of 1000 merino ewes. The calves are predominantly sent into the backgrounding and feeder markets, with some cattle fed on farm for the supermarket trade. The cattle are run across 36,000 acres, with some 400 kms between the north and south properties. Most of the cattle are on the coast where the soil type is sand over limestone. Ardcairnie runs along the Moore River and Indian Ocean with picturesque limestone outcrops across the farm. There are many vantage points on the property which overlook the pristine ocean and river with the area well- known for its white sandy beaches, perfect for fishing, kayaking, surfing and boating. Guilderton is a charming coastal town on the Moore River. Only an hour drive from Perth, makes this tourist destination a popular one for day-trippers looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

Ardrossan Angus is home to a large HBR Angus and Ultrablack stud herd which is complemented by a large commercial herd. The business has over three decades of experience in breeding seedstock and commercial females producing genetics that have an influence globally. Ardrossan Angus females graze country in a range of Australian States which gives them the ability to utilise varying seasonal conditions, whilst also producing bulls that are sold to all States and Territories. Throughout the last thirty years we have focused on breeding for structure, docility, fertility and carcase traits in our cattle. This has seen Ardrossan Angus produce many breed leading high registration sires such as Ardrossan Equator A241. A241 still has the most registered calves in the Angus breed. Ardrossan Angus has been a large contributor to the Angus Australia benchmarking program including both as a co-operator herd and including sires in the benchmark program. Recently, ‘Ardrossan Nectar Q67’ ranked extremely well in his Cohort; achieving the number 1 sire for Gestation Length and the third sire for Claw Set. Q67 has gone on to rank very well in the World Angus evaluation, where he ranked in the top 1% for docility and claw set. We welcome visitors to inspect our herd anytime.

We believe in our clients getting the golden key to the premium markets but we also want them to enjoy their cattle like we do, so temperament and type are core to our success. Deep sided, fine skinned cows with strong spines and good heads rock our boat and we believe in the power of the pedigree in our female lines. We fold IMF and performance under the hide by carefully utilising technology and genetics. We are 5th generation graziers, are one of the oldest performance recorded angus studs in Australia and run 800 cows in the beautiful New England of NSW. We sell 120 bulls annually, select embryos, as well as mature females every 5 years.

Galimbang Beef

Galimbang is a family owned and run Commercial Beef operation located in the Foothills of the Snowy Mountains in Southern NSW. We run a straight bred Angus herd calving around 500 females, producing yearling feeder steers and surplus PTIC females. Integrated into the system are about 250 registered females from which seedstock, meeting our criteria, are selected. To date bulls produced have principally been for our own use, with those sold placing locally. We have well defined commercial objectives and production systems employing performance measurement at key points along the way. Whilst traditional in our passion and handling of cattle, we employ progressive technology across the whole herd such as Genomics, AI programs and collection and analysis of individual performance data both on farm and post farm gate. Our herd turns grass into beef ranging across terrain with over 300m of elevation difference carrying both native and improved pasture types and around one third native timber. As an indication of performance, they produce in excess of 325kg Lwt/Clear Ha, have recorded wins in local commerical cattle comps and steers feedlot carcase grading average coming in just outside national top 10%. Hazeldean Angus offers the most bulls for sale in Australia (via public auctions). Being one of the largest registered herds, genetic gain is rapid. Highrent Angus

Highrent is situated in the New England tablelands, 38 km east of Walcha. Our family has been breeding commercial Angus here for over 70 years, selling into the weaner market, and over the years have built up a good reputation for quality stock. Our stud enterprise initially began progeny testing Kilburnie Angus bulls for well respected breeder David Murray. As such we are mainly an APR herd, with strong emphasis on performance and recording. We have been selling bulls for four years, and aim to produce quality bulls for commercial producers. At our sale we are consistently able to present bulls with EBV’s in the top 20% for growth, carcase quality (esp IMF) and NFI. Strong emphasis is also placed on birthweight, fertility and structural integrity. Accuracy of EBV’s is important to us. We utilize genomics and data collection, as well as physical evaluation in our selection process. We make use of AI and ET programs to enhance and fast track genetic progress. Currently we run about 350 Angus cows. We sell about 40 bulls each year, mainly yearlings but also some 18mth and 2 yr olds. In the future we hope to expand this as we build our herd.

Kingston Angus Stud

Kingston Angus Stud was established in 2013 with the purchase of four beautiful Te Mania Angus cows. They were flushed with Tuwharetoa Regent D145. The females retained from this mating formed the foundation females of the herd. At Kingston Angus Stud, since inception we have only worked with the best genetics available in Australia and the USA, producing a limited number of bulls per annum. This approached has been hugely successful producing exceptional bulls. In sourcing genetics every year, we are looking for animals with well balanced EBVs With the commercial buyer in mind we have emphasised good structure, calving ease and temperament. Angus Australia has recently introduced Research Breeding Values. (RBVs) These are EBVs under development. The EATING QUALITY RBV consists of two components. The MSA Marbling Score is calculated from MSA marbling scores taken by an accredited carcase grader at the 12th/13th rib site on a 400kg steer carcase. The second component is the Sheer Force RBV and is the estimated genetic difference in objective beef tenderness. Sheer Force RBVs are expressed in kilograms of sheer force that are required to pull a mechanical blade through a piece of cooked meat. Fifty percent of the cows in the KINGSTON herd has a Sheer Force RBV in the top 1% - 20%. It is all about EATING QUALITY.

Knowla Livestock is a family owned and operated livestock company situated on the headwaters of the Barrington River at Moppy, west of Gloucester. The Moppy valley, whilst it is undulating to steep grazing country, it is ideal for cow calf production. The focal point is the annual production sale held on the last Friday in July. 85 bulls are offered, as well as a selection of stud heifers and 100 ready to join EU accredited Angus commercial females. The family manages 280 registered females and approximately 500 commercial cows and progeny. Our commercial breeding program drives the selection pressures that shape our seedstock herd with all selection decisions based on proven commercial attributes. All walking sires used within our seedstock herd, are also exposed to equal numbers of commercial cows, ensuring our genetics remains directly aligned with the requirements of commercial producers. We are firm believers in the importance of recording every measurable trait, and we actively participate in recording traits for research breeding values, like mature cow body composition. As early adopters of genomic testing, our entire seedstock herd is sire verified with genomic enhanced breeding values. In addition to this, all animals are independently structurally evaluated. At Knowla Livestock, we aim to provide a balanced blend of phenotype and genotype in a functional package, ensuring consistent quality and reliability for our clients.

Kunderang’s breeding focus is on achieving not only impressive phenotypes in our cattle, but also building a strong foundation in their genotypes. Combining the two breeds capitalises on hybrid vigour and captures the best qualities of both. In 2023 at the Sydney Royal Easter Show Kunderang Stud donated a steer to Pymble Ladies College to be exhibited in the trade hoof and hook class. The immediate success of this steer prompted the entry of further cattle into other competitions. These include Teys Feedlot Feedback Trial, Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza, and AMPC National Beef Carcase Competition where the results have far exceeded expectations. Linvale Angus

Linvale Angus Stud is a client-focused seed stock operation that provides customers with bulls that are suitable for a range of operations. Our breeding objectives aim to produce cattle that are easy calving, high growth, carcase merit that expresses muscle, fertile, docile, structurally sound and carry a strong head. Linvale Angus was founded in 2019 by Derek and Kim Litzow, and sons Daniel, Howard and Luke, based at ‘Braemar’, in the Linthorpe Valley, on the Inner Darling Downs, Queensland. The Litzow family developed a strong passion for the seed stock industry after running a self-replacing Angus herd for a number of years. The Angus seed stock industry became somewhat of an obsession for Derek and Howard and it was later decided to convert the entire herd to Angus stud stock. The skills of Derek an Agronomist by trade and Howard who carries an Agribusiness degree, are utilised in the stud for sustainable farming and cattle breeding practices. The Linvale Angus female herd was founded on purchases from Ascot, Ben Nevis, Knowla, Gilmandyke and Texas Angus Studs. We run an intensive artificial insemination and embryo transfer program for our Autumn calving herd, utilising the best genetics from around the world. We grow out our bulls on improved sub-tropical pastures and forage crops, where they are then offered for sale in the Spring at 18 months old. If you would like to know more about our operation please contact us at any time, inspections are always welcomed.

Marlea Angus is a self-replacing Angus breeding business located in the foothills of the Barrington Tops, New South Wales, Australia. We are a young family, currently operating over two properties at Barrington and Tibbuc. Marlea Angus produces high-quality black Angus cattle that are designed for performance, resilience and eating quality. The commercial arm of our business produces weaner steers and replacement heifers, while the registered arm serves as the nucleus to breed only the best-suited sires for our target markets. At Marlea Angus our genetics focus on producing well-muscled, mid-maturing cattle that marble and score highly for MSA Index. We believe this makes for the most efficient and versatile Angus animal, suited to a range of finishing and marketing options. Our breeders are tough and resilient by design. The average Marlea cow is moderate framed, lives on unfertilised native grasses in light coastal soil, and maintains her body condition whilst providing us a heavy, soft skinned weaner. She goes in calf on her 1st or 2nd cycle and has feet you don’t notice because they’re not causing problems. She is quiet, calves without problems, and she has a slick, early shedding coat and strong head. “Breeding cattle is our occupation, our passion, our obsession. Mawarra Genetics

At Mawarra Genetics our aim is to breed Angus bulls that mirror the performance and profitability of the Whiteface cattle we are renowned for producing. Our key breeding objectives are: structural integrity, fertility – strong maternal traits, carcase excellence, performance (weight-for-age/growth). Our approach to breeding is best described as holistic. We aim for a complete animal - not extreme in any way. An animal that combines sound physical attributes with the market-driven traits required to consistently meet the performance and reproduction targets of a profitable, modern beef-producing enterprise. Our focus is always on the three key drivers of our profitability, and that of our clients: Live calves, carcase attributes, fertile, efficient, maternal females. For over 60 years our family has been breeding cattle following these principles, adding and refining selection criteria and traits as markets evolve and technology advances. The success of our genetics is evidenced in the results of our clients. Although our Angus herd doesn’t have the longevity of our Whiteface program, we are already seeing similarity in type and performance. We have invested heavily in leading genetics, purchasing renowned sire Knowla So Right S48 & $170,000 Millwillah Powerpoint R318, in partnership with Peakes Angus.

mawarragenetics

mawarragenetics

Originally founded as a commercial Angus herd, our mission has been to continually improve genetics, temperament, cattle handling, pastures, and animal health in order to achieve high MSA carcase percentages from grass-fed cattle. Understanding that the core of our success lies in our cow herd, we began performance recording with ACR Angus Registration, later advancing to APR and incorporating some HBR purchases. This year, we initiated an embryo program to introduce elite American Angus genetics that fit our performance and type criteria, enabling us to benchmark future carcase outcomes. Each year, we join over 3,000 spring-calving females, with 2,000 undergoing Artificial Insemination, followed by bulls at approximately 3%. BPW bulls now make up a significant portion of our bull stock, allowing us to use carcase data for effective grading and selection, which also applies to our females. Our Bullseye Angus herd has set rigorous standards by focusing on mature cow weight, growth, fertility, and carcase quality. An independent assessor reviews our herd for structural soundness and temperament. Bullseye Angus maintains a high level of animal health and Husbandry and is involved in numerous industry quality assurance programs ensuring the standards are at the highest level.

Bowen Stud

Jake, Emma and Gus Phillips operate Phillips Cattle Company at Naracoorte , South Australia. Since its inception, the Phillips family have surrounded themselves with the very best cattle and the very best people. This approach has enabled them to build a small but high quality group of HBR females that are bred to thrive under high stocking rates and excel in birth to growth , structure and docility. Recent additions to the herd include a close working relationship with Hoover Angus in Iowa, where they have imported embryos from the heart of the Hoover herd. Jake and Emma are first generation farmers but have worked extensively across the beef industry across the globe in a variety of things from conception to consumption and are now turning their passion and knowledge into a rapidly evolving Angus seedstock business of the future. Jake and Emma believe passion drives excellence in the beef business and welcome your enquiry to talk beef, bulls or breeding programs at any time.

Quanden Springs Angus

The Quanden Springs Angus Stud was founded in 2012 by Noel and Robyn Stoney at Redmond, Western Australia. John, Kimberley, Flynn and Isaac Stoney, moved to Quanden Springs in 2019. Quanden Springs Stud has grown from females purchased at various Western Australian Angus stud dispersal sales, giving a variety of genetics for the base females. Our breeding focus is on producing fertile, easy-calving bulls with a quiet temperament. The selection process emphasizes growth rates, moderate mature cow weights, superior carcase attributes, and structural soundness. These traits are carefully evaluated using both visual assessment and EBVs. Genomics testing is an important component of the program. HD50K testing of heifer and bull calves provides maximum reliability for EBVs, and Sire and Parent Verification. It also delivers EBV scores for traits like claw set, foot angle and leg angle. Quanden Springs’ actual measurements including birth weights, docility assessments, 200D, 400D, and 600D weights, EMA, IMF, rib and rump scanning, and scrotal measurements which improve EBV accuracy and give buyers confidence when selecting bulls. The tailored AI program, combined with backup bulls from the Esslemont and Quanden Springs studs, ensures genetic diversity. We have been excited with the recent improvements in our herd.

Raff Angus

Raff Angus was established in 1965 and is a family owned seedstock beef breeding business. Now in its 60th year stud principal Andrew, wife Anna with family Harry, Charlie, Georgina and Olivia manage a herd of over 2000 Herd Book Registered Angus cattle that are fully performance recorded, genomic tested and parent verified. However, with a herd genetically different to the reference population the Raff’s put greater selection ‘on ground’ analysing raw data, maternal strength, breeding ability and pedigree merit along with phenotype and breed character in preference to scientific methodology. Science cannot be argued but it must be balanced. Raff Angus are bred to grow fast and weigh heavy with extra carcase weight, yield and feed efficiency with the aim to breed cattle that are profitable for all sectors of the industry. We measure all things measurable including actual in herd carcases hanging on the hook. Over the past four years 670 yearling prime milk tooth pasture finished steers and heifers have been sold. Compared Nationally within the Meat & Livestock myMSA Dashboard our animals have netted $365 per head more value to gross and extra $244,960 over these years. Whilst the majority of the current breeding females descend from the original foundation cows of 1965, genetics continue to be sourced throughout the world.

Redgums Red Angus

Redgums Red Angus near Echuca in northern Victoria breeds bulls and females for the stud and commercial industry. Results from the MLA carbon calculator put our property in carbon negative territory. We achieve this with efficient breeding and grazing approaches, low inputs, agroforestry and renewable power. Our bulls scored highly in a Vytelle feed trial for growth and feed efficiency. Using new AI sires such as XACT Fantastic Starr we focus on elite carcase improvement. Our purebred steers were a close second in the 2023 Royal Sydney Stan Hill trophy and we’ve had high sellers at the Red Angus National and Invitational sales. Our stud leads the ‘Must Be Reds’ Red Angus feature sale every February at NVLX Barnawatha. We’ve also had success in the show ring such as our 2019 Interbreed bull winner at Royal Sydney and recently Grand Champion Red Angus male at Beef Australia. We have a new venture with Ultrared calves on the ground from two flushes with Texas Red Brangus sire Trio’s Balco Coronel 175C2. We welcome visitors at any time and have semen and embryos for sale. We are excited to meet Red Angus breeders from around the world at the World Angus Forum. We will have cattle on display in Tamworth during the Forum.

Reiland Angus

REILAND ANGUS “Carcase without Compromise” The Reiland Angus herd was established in 1972 with a selection of superior cows from Kahlua, Berry Mountain, Bulgary, Merribrook and Hazeldean. Later we imported cows form NZ in the early 80’s from Kahurau and Rakaiatia studs. The focus of selection from the inception was for larger framed, maternal females that handled intensive grazing systems. The herd has expanded via extensive use of Artificial Insemination (AI) since the late 70’s and has been a recorded Breedplan herd since the mid 80’s. Today, the registered and commercial herds amount to in excess of 1800 cows with widespread AI and embryo transfer. Up to 250 bulls / year are sold. Selection is “chisel focused” on structure, fertility, slick hair types and accelerated carcase merit. In a “complex genetic world” we work with a leading genetisist to ensure appropriate balance and priority is allocated to profitable outcomes for clients. Enquires and inspections always welcome across properties at Tumut and Gundagai, NSW.

Rennylea Angus is based in Southern NSW, where Angus cattle were introduced in 1952. The herd of 2,300 cows, are selected for fertility, moderate maturity pattern, positive fat and elite carcase with a clear selection goal and are run at well above district average stocking rates. The Corrigan Family of Bryan, Lucinda, Ruth and Anthony, together with a team of eight staff are focussed on producing high quality bulls for the commercial beef industry. Our core business value is integrity, we do not issue sale credits and if customers are not satisfied we refund money or arrange replacement bulls, we do everything possible to ensure bulls perform as they are described and are sold with the highest level of QA as possible. Rennylea has been recorded with Breedplan since it commenced in 1985 and has been a partner in many R&D projects to improve the traits in the analysis. We were early adopters of genomics, genotyping every calf since 2015. The genetic profile of the cowherd has low birthweight, fast growth and moderate maturity pattern, top 17% eye muscle area and top 11% intramuscular fat. At Richmond Hill Angus we believe in breeding consistent and balanced animals. The stud was formed 66 years ago and has been continually breeding herd book registered Angus cattle since, we have always had a strong focus on temperament, feet and structure. Most introduced genetics are through a yearly AI fixed time program and we have plenty of genetic diversity to use our own sires over the remaining and as follow up. We are situated in Tasmania, an island state at the south of Australia. Our winter nights drop well below freezing on frosty nights and become very wet leading into spring. Over summer it becomes quite hot with daytime temperatures reaching into the mid to high 30’celsius. Our cattle are grazed on pasture with hay fed out to them on the ground through the winter months. Our cattle are long living and fertile, they perform out in the field where it matters. Weaning weights in our calves are progressively climbing with no added per head inputs. Markets in our area are mostly for high value grass finished labels, our genetics marble well in these conditions while retaining carcase weights.

Kedmaw Angus & Kelpies

Ruby Ridge Angus is a family-run stud, established in 2013. The stud was born from our daughters’ passion for showing cattle, a love passed down through their mother’s side. Located 7 km outside of Kingaroy, our stud and commercial cattle graze on forest grass and red soil scrub across a couple of properties. In 2013, we locally acquired 16 heifers of different breeding and one bull. Since then, our stud has grown, utilising artificial insemination of both Australian and international semen to enhance our genetics and retain females to expand our herd. Our goal for 2025 is to artificially inseminate over 75% of our cows and heifers to improve genetics and introduce diverse phenotypes. We aim to breed and sell quality bulls and females for both stud and commercial operations. We pride ourselves on producing phenotypes that exemplify the Angus breed, featuring traits such as docility, structural integrity, fertility, doability, calving ease, growth, eating quality and milking ability. We sell bulls annually at our local Coolabunia saleyards at a multi-vendor Angus Bull Sale, as well as through private treaty in the paddock. Additionally, we have heifers and cows available year-round for private treaty.

Sara Park Angus & Duddy Angus

At Sara Park Angus and Duddy Angus, we are a family committed to breeding functional, efficient cattle that thrive in diverse production systems and deliver consistent results across a range of markets. For us, balance is the strength of the Angus breed - fertile, functional cows that reliably wean a calf each year, paired with the carcase and growth traits that drive premiums. Structural soundness is also a key focus. Longevity matters - and our clients tell us our cattle last, giving years of reliable service and reducing the average cost per calf. Sara Park was established in 1995, but our familyís involvement in cattle breeding spans over a century in the New England region. Based in Glen Innes, we run a commercial Angus herd alongside the stud, focused on producing cattle that perform on both grain and grass. Seeing our bulls’ progeny top weaner sales is the fulfilment of our breeding goals. For 55 years, Herb has brought exceptional stockmanship to his herd. More recently, Jeff and Robert have added a new dimension through Duddy Angus, blending performance genetics with practical functionality. Weíre pleased to have the third generation now actively involved, bringing fresh energy and continuing the family tradition.

Tandara Angus Stud

It is without question that the Angus is recognised for quality in the beef industry. At Tandara we promote traits that improve quality with each generation. Maternal traits are prioritised in breeder selection and each beast is fully scrutinised with careful attention paid in A.I. programs to compatible sire selection. we believe temperament must be considered a major feature. Even tempered cows provide even tempered progeny that is paramount in bull production. To meet varied markets importance is placed on EBV’s. Feet must be dependable and a follow through pedigree showing good feet is essential. Featuring low birthweight is Tandara’s strength. With the current trend of heifer joining ease of calving is a notable essential. Attention is paid to genetics for growth rates in the 200/400/600 day section and this is obviously apparent in the 2024 calves. Fat and marbling are carefully taken into account when selecting sires and this again will be infused in Tandara’s female bloodlines. In our September sale this year bulls are sired by Baldridge SR Goalkeeper, Tehama Testament, Murdeduke Quarterback Q011 and our 2 Booroomooka sires NGMR186 and NGM22T12.

The Glen Pastoral Co.

The Glen’s cattle herd commenced in 1940 with a grey bull mated to 30 selected Black Angus heifers. In 1962, the Grey cattle became registered as Murray Greys and were Dun Grey and Silver Grey coated. Mike and Joy, via family succession, inherited The Glen herd in 1985. They continued with the Grey breeding program and commenced breeding registered Black Angus in 2002. The Black Angus and Grey cattle are all recorded with Angus Australia. Currently the Grey cattle are all sired by straightbred Black Angus bulls. The Glen has conducted 54 consecutive Annual bull sales, offering predominantly straight bred black Angus bulls and some Black Angus infused Grey and Silver Grey Bulls which are registered in Angus Australia’s Multi Breed Register. The entire registered herd is Parent Verified and has TACE EBVs generated by Neogen GS. The Glen’s breeding program is focussed on breeding herd improving genetics for commercial beef production. In addition to breeding bulls for commercial cattle breeders, The Glen has a strong focus on producing high quality MSA Grass Fattened Angus Beef and is recognized as an Elite MSA Grass Fed Beef Producer. Currently, most of the young Silver Angus cattle in The Glen herd have at least 75% Black Angus blood content. It is The Glen’s expectation that Silver Angus will contribute to breeding programs in tropical climates due to their light coat colour. Victoree Angus

The fabulous beef animal produces over 3000 products which the world relishes and would have difficulty doing without. However, to enjoy the benefits of beef cattle, the world environment, peoples and native flora and fauna have received considerable bruising. Fortunately, this does not have to continue. With new science and production systems and superior genetics, beef production can be environmentally more enhancing. It is every beef producers challenge to turn the most nutritious natural grasses into the healthiest and tastiest beef — sustainably in the shortest possibly time. The Williams family of VICTOREE began cattle breeding in Australia in 1859 with Shorthorns. After witnessing Angus winning the majority of Australian carcase competitions, in 1946 Ernie, Alice, Harry and Betty Williams began the VICTOREE Angus. In 1987, they stopped using any chemicals, they focused on easy doing good looking cattle with carcase merit. In 2009 after three years of severe drought, a line breeding program was instigated. It was designed to produce marbling 4 to 6, easy doing cattle off grass at 12 months. Steers have to be off the planet as soon as possible. Heavier carcasees with high marbling will come from empty heifers and older females. The Angus breed can compete most successfully with any other breed producing very high marbling off grass. This is potentially the breeds greatest asset. The recent Victoree results are extremely encouraging with one animal scoring a marble score nine at 11 months - off grass! In the next year, up to 32% of linebred bulls will be carcase tested on commercial herds. If successful these genetics will be made available. Comments and discussions welcome.

Weeran is a leading Angus herd and specialist seedstock operation, producing Angus genetics for the beef industry, along with producing prime lambs. Situated at Byaduk, Western Victoria, ‘Weerangourt’ is a family based farming operation, across three generations of the Moore family. Weeran is producing high performance genetics which are regularly proving their worth on farm and feedlot. We have two bull sales a year, supplying genetics for both autumn and spring joinings selling approximately 200 bulls annually. Weeran Angus is running 850 performance recorded Angus cows, run in conjunction with a self-replacing cross bred flock of 3,500 ewes. A member of Angus Australia for 52 years and 53 on property bull sales. The Weeran Team fastidiously collect production data and technical information on the entire herd. Every calf is weighed at birth. Bulls are weighed several times during their lifetime at Weeran and measured for many production traits. With this data collection, comes high accuracies for the Weeran EBVs. Dick Whale from IBMS has helped our program evolve over many years. Designing genetics has become a very exacting science and with the use of genomics, AI and ET, it is an exciting time to be in the industry.
