AJ Schmidt Student Places 2nd In Statewide Bus Safety Poster Competition

For the first time in Lake Shore history, a student participating in the New York State Association for Pupil Transportation and Cyr Foundation’s Bus Safety Poster Contest has brought home second place honors.

Congratulations to Patrick Pinto, a third grade student at AJ Schmidt Elementary! His work has been framed and will be hung in the school to remind everyone about bus safety. He also received a check for $75 for his efforts.

Patrick competed with over 570,000 students who observe School Bus Safety Week.

The centerpiece of National School Bus Safety Week is the National SBSW Poster Contest. Thousands of school districts in over 40 states participate in local and statelevel competitions to select artwork that depicts school bus safety-related themes and encourages and promotes school bus safety. The winning posters are used to promote safer school transportation for everyone.

Village Halloween Parade

The Evans Township Lions Club staged its 67th annual Halloween Costume parade on Sat. Nov. 31, 2015 at 2pm in the Village of Angola. Open to children of all ages,(think adults), the parade saw over 150 participants march up and down N. Main street, on a overcast but not rainy fall day, in preparation for their evening Trick or Treat activities.

Treats and refreshments were provided at The Angola Fire Hall after the parade.

AJ Schmidt Students Learn About Cultures From Around the World

While studying Ancient Asia students in Mrs. Donovan’s Second Grade at Lake Shore’s AJ Schmidt Elementary created a shared class map of the continent, specifically India and China.

Students celebrated the completion of a Chinese New Year lesson by creating red paper lanterns and wearing “2015: Year of the Sheep” headbands.

Seventh grade students at SS. Peter & Paul School took a tour of the SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery as part of their Halloween festivities. Hamburg Public Library Director and historian Jack Edson led the tour. Students learned about a variety of Hamburg families that helped shape the Hamburg parish and community. In the photo Edson is speaking about Rev.Anthony Bornefeld, who served as pastor from 1908 until his death in the church during Mass in the spring of 1920. Middle School Students Named to Area All-State Performing Ensembles

Performances in spring lead to appointment in Fall of 2015

In June, students from Lake Shore Middle School and other schools from across Western New York participated in the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Area All-State Solo Competition, held at West Seneca East High School in West Seneca, NY. After outstanding performances, Lake Shore’s Rebecca Meyers (seventh grade) and Gavin Ingrao (eighth grade) were nominated to the Area All-State Chorus and Orchestra Ensembles, respectively this past fall. These ensembles are compromised of the top musicians in 7th, 8th and 9th grades from Erie, Niagara, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties.

Students participating in the solo competition performed a solo as well as demonstrated their knowledge of scales and sight-reading for a New York State Music Adjudicator in their chosen musical program.

Meyers and Ingrao are under the direction of Miss Alicia Louttit and Mrs. Anna Agro.

The Open House will be held at the Town of Evans Senior Center located at 999 Sturgeon Point Road, Derby, NY on November 10, 2015 beginning at 7pm and concluding at 8:30 pm.

Attendees will have the opportunity to speak one-on-one with project engineers about the trail in an open house format.

There will be no formal presentation.

The scope of the project is the construction of a multi-use pathway/ shared roadway bicycle route in the Town of Evans, NY. Project limits are from the intersection of Roat Drive and Old Lakeshore Road through Wendt Beach Park and then on to 18 Mile Creek generally within the Old Lake Shore Road right of way.
