Ancient Asian Civilizations

At GLP Primary School in Eden, Mrs. Engle's second graders studied Ancient Chinese Civilizations. The students learned about the Chinese New Year and created dragon masks, along with making and creating Chinese "kindness" cards that included words of wisdom and a sweet treat.

Town of Brant and Village of Farnham Voters

By this time, most of you know that I am running for Highway Superintendent.

I have not placed any negative ads against the current superintendent, nor will I respond to negative ads he has placed against me.

The race for Highway Superintendent is not about party loyalty or egos. It is about maintaining Town roads, ditches and related concerns.

All the roads that were plowed in the town will continue to be plowed, the ditches will be cleaned and culverts will be replaced as needed. Tree limbs that hang over the road will be trimmed to remove the hazard and more. These are concerns that have been brought to my attention along with several others during my campaign visits, and I will address them.

Over these past months, I have tried to visit as many homes as possible, but I haven’t made them all. If you are wondering about my qualifications, or position on any issue, please call me anytime at 549-3763. My phone number has been included in my ads since day one.

USDA Awards Eden Valley Growers A Grant to Further Expand and Mobilize the Western NY Food Hub

Eden Valley Growers, a farmer-owned cooperative and the owner/operator of the Western NY Food Hub, was awarded $98,890 through the Local Food Promotion Program from the United States Department of Agriculture to further expand its food hub operations.

Eden Valley Growers, in collaboration with Cornell Cooperative Extension and Field & Fork Network, will implement the project over a two-year period. The goals of the initiative are to increase consumption of and access to locally and regionally produced agriculture

products and to develop new market opportunities for small and mid-size specialty produce growers across Western New York.

”Eden Valley Growers is excited for the opportunity to help smaller growers connect with buyers they would normally not be able to & to move their products to other areas of the state & beyond. Additional commodities will potentially attract other buyers & also extend the “selling” season for locally grown products.” states

Field & Fork Network’s 2014 Food Hub Planning

Project feasibility study resulted in the selection of Eden Valley Growers as the operator for the Western NY Food Hub. With the Western NY Food Hub being incubated within Eden Valley Growers, farmers have immediate access to existing buyers and the potential to decrease marketing costs and increase sales over the long term.

The Western NY Food Hub will source fruits and vegetables from growers around Buffalo and in twelve counties of Western New York – Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Genesee and Wyoming, Chautauqua,

Cattaraugus, Monroe, Livingston, Allegany, Wayne and Ontario. Products will be sold and distributed predominantly to wholesale buyers in Buffalo, and to buyers across the entire state of New York, as well as the Northeast and MidAtlantic.

The project will provide outreach, training, technical assistance and support for the farmers that choose to sell to the Western NY Food Hub, which will sell and distribute to buyers across the region.

“This project is a critical step in making the Western NY Food Hub a model for success. Through this

grant, we will be able to develop a technical assistance outreach program to interested growers that will be customized to the hub’s specific criteria, while simultaneously offering a larger and more diverse product line to the wholesale market sector. As a result, individual farms will be able to diversify their market portfolio, customers will have greater access to fresh, local produce and local economies will be strengthened. We consider this a tremendous win for all and are thrilled to be project partners.” said Cheryl Thayer, Cornell

Joe Giambrone, a 31-year veteran highway superintendent, is asking for your vote to allow him another four years to continue to give back to his birthplace and lifelong residence, with his characteristic selfless dedication.

This year, Joe has an opponent running on the conservative line, Mr. Friend, whom has built his platform on change and choice. Since early July, Mr. Friend has had the opportunity to reasonably explain how he is going to be a better highway superintendent. So far, he has failed to produce any facts relative to his platform.

Mr. Friend has placed several ads in a local publication. In one of them, he pointlessly staggers down memory lane, lamenting about what happened 30 years ago. The next ad he makes a statement referring to snow removal as child’s play. Joe, with his immense experience, will tell anyone that just one of his area’s usual snow storms can take days of intense round the clock work to clear up, making snow removal on this town’s size and scale, serious business!

Well maintained roads are not, as Mr. Friend states, child’s play. We all rely on our roads to go to work, get our kids to school, make doctors’ appointments, etc., as well as allowing free access for emergency vehicles to keep us safe. That ad alone, shows Joe is the only adult in the room, and Joe has a 31-year history of getting the job done.

The truth about this election is that neither candidate has given the residents a good reason to change superintendents. Mr. Friend has yet to give at least one reason to vote for him and nor has Joe given anyone a reason not to vote for him!

Mr. Friend is touting change and choice in this race. His entry into this election has indeed given the voters a choice. Through his use of dirty tactics, ridiculous statements and childish viewpoints of the job, he has proven that Joe Giambrone is the sensible choice for highway superintendent.

Over the last 31 years, the residents of Brant and Farnham have always had a true friend, by definition, as highway superintendent. ON
