Miss Cassi Johnson's Grade 3 class completed a Friendship Project as part of their end of the year Religion Project.

Each student had to choose another classmate out of a basket and that classmate was the main subject of the project.

They had to write a speech that included positive attributes, what brings happiness to that person, why they were grateful for their friendship and why they were proud of them.

When they were done, the student had to create a pin for their classmate. After the speeches were read, they class had a "pinning" ceremony. Pictured: Emma Labby, Delaney Fish, Alex Davis & Cailum Irwin with their pins.

DOG OF THE WEEK “Hot Pursuit” (PG-13) -This no-laugh riot gives us something original by taking the Bickering Buddies on the Run formula, heading it with two likable female talents, and then somehow making it SO ANNOYING. Cooper (Reese Witherspoon) is an uptight Nervous Nelly cop placed in charge of Daniella (Sofia Vergara), the vivacious wife of a drug kingpin, who’s set to testify at an upcoming big-deal court case. Wacky circumstances make the Shrill Couple the target of both cops and gangsters as they try to get to Dallas alive.

Witherspoon is short and Vergara has a funny accent.

That’s the joke that gets run into the ground over a very brief run-time. When the movie isn’t polishing that bit of comedy gold, there’s usually a great deal of shrieking, tired cliches and humorless chatter to pass the time.

“Patch Town” (NR) -- A worker in a comedically bleak factory, Jon (Rob Ramsay) looks like a Cabbage Patch doll grown to uncomfortable adulthood -- curly puff hair, plump cheeks, baby-angel eyes with a splash of innocent cheerfulness. Unfortunately, he works on an assembly line, pulling goo-covered babies out of cabbages, then sending them off to be given as living dolls. Jon comes to the earth-shattering realization that he’s a discarded doll, and decides to escape the factory and seek out the girl who was once his “Mommy,” but has now grown up. This bizarre and unexpected darkish comedy is well worth checking out.

David A. Diefenbach

David A. Diefenbach, 80, of Silver Creek, died Saturday morning, July 18th, 2015, at his home, following a lengthy illness. He was born in Silver Creek, on November 14, 1934, the son of the late Laurin and Mildred (Campbell) Diefenbach. He worked for many years for Ehmke Well Drillers in Silver Creek. In the early 1980’s he formed his own business, Diefenbach Water Systems, specializing in water treatment and wa-

ter well pump systems. He was a lifetime member of the Hanover Fish and Game Club, was past President and Trail Captain for the Sunset Drifters Snowmobile Club and a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, Silver Creek. Mr. Diefenbach was a true outdoorsman and family man.

Besides spending time with his family, he enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting, skeet shooting and snowmobiling. When he was younger he also enjoyed scuba diving. This winter he was able to go on his one and only snowmobile ride of the season when his grandson brought his sled to the front door, and with the help of his family, he got on the sled and both rode to Forestville. Survivors include his wife Marsha (Newton) Diefenbach, whom he married May 12, 1966, in Las Vegas, Nevada, a son, Mark (Michele) Diefenbach, of

Eden, two daughters, Tracey (Keith) Newman and Kelley (Rosario) Como, both of Silver Creek and a brother, Daniel Diefenbach, of Hamburg. Also surviving are a sister-in-law Judi Lucas of Forestville, 6 grandchildren Mallory and David Diefenbach, Matthew and Kaitlyn Newman, Alexa and Myah Como and several nieces & nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a brother Charles Diefenbach, a sister Nancy Schifferli and brother-inlaw Rich Schifferl. Friends called at the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville on Tuesday where Funeral Services were held Wednesday.
