Hamburg Lions Club Makes Donation to Local Food Pantry

The Town of Hamburg Lions Club recently made donations to five different food pantries who service people in need throughout the Southtowns, including a $1,000 donation to the food pantry based inside Southtowns Christian Center on Southwestern Boulevard in Lake View. Approximately 111,000 meals were provided to those in need thanks to the efforts of numerous volunteers who lend a hand on a weekly basis at Southtowns Christian Center.

Heidelberg honors Samantha Demmerley as scholar-athlete

Heidelberg University presented Landess Scholar-Athlete Awards to 148 students at halftime of the men's basketball game Feb. 18.

Samantha Demmerley (cheerleading), a junior Educationmajor from Derby, N.Y., was among the students honored for their achievements in the classroom as well as on the athletic field for the fall semester.

The Landess Awards were created by William Landess, a 1995 Heidelberg alumnus and member of the university's Board of Trustees, to honor student-athletes who achieve a minimum 3.0 GPA during their semester of competition.

Wall of Fame Nominations Sought In 1992 the Lake Shore Central School District developed the Wall of Fame program for recognizing the outstanding achievements of alumni of the district. These individuals are people who, after graduation, greatly contributed to the well being of our society through their hard work, talents and leadership. Nominees must be a graduate of at least 15 years and may not currently be an employee of the Lake Shore Central School District. Every other year the district holds an induction ceremony in May honoring new inductees. Once again, we have begun the process of selecting a new class for induction. If you know of any alumni who should be considered for this honor, we ask that you provide us with a completed application by Wednesday, March 11, 2015. The Wall of Fame Nomination Form can be downloaded from our website: www.lakeshorecsd.org Each nominee will be reviewed by the district committee for possible induction into the “Wall of Fame”. Individuals who are selected will be afforded a place on the “wall” with a picture and biographical information. In addition, it will be expected that the honoree address our high school students, with a reception being held in their honor.

This year’s Wall of Fame Induction Ceremony & Reception is scheduled for June 4, 2015.

Joseph Rosato, died suddenly, Thursday February 19, 2015 in his Derby, NY home, he was 72. Joseph is the brother of the late Paul Rosato and the uncle of Sarah and Christopher Rosato. He is also survived by his loving Claddagh family.

Southtowns Catholic School Makes Ice Cream

Students in Miss Diane Knopeck's Kindergarten class took advantage of all the fresh snow and made ice cream.

Evans Joad Participates in the Memorial Shoot

On Saturday, February 14th, 2015, the Evans Joad participated in the Harry Stabell Memorial Shoot at the Leo’s Archery Club.

The shoot was held at the Westfalls Conservation Club, and all participants did a great job shooting. Many awards were received that day as follows: Male Bowman 3rd place went to Jake Kohlmeier and 1st place was taken by Donald Mogavero.

Female Bowman 2nd place went to Brianna Bartz and 1st place to Gabby Bartz. Female Cub 3rd place went to Jessica Mogavero.

Female Cadet 3rd place went to Molly McCabe and Male Cadet 1st place went to Kyle Latimore.

Then Senior Female 2nd place went to Cindy Kohlmeier.
