Students and faculty at Southtowns Catholic School had a Pajama Day during Catholic Schools Week. Before lunch, the entire school dropped everything and read in their classrooms while cuddled up with blankets or their favorite stuffed toy. In the afternoon, they watched the movie Inside Out in the gym. During the day, each student passed a Positive Note to one of their fellow classmates, and pointed out a positive quality about them during homeroom. Jesse Bilowus named to Dean’s List

Jesse Clayton Bilowus, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Bilowus of Angola, NY, was named to the Dean’s List at Pensacola Christian College for academic achievement during the 2015 fall semester. This was a result of earning a B average or higher.

Pensacola Christian College is a liberal arts college enrolling students from every state in the U.S. and from around the world. Pensacola Christian College has an enrollment of approximately 4,800 students (undergraduate, graduate, and Seminary) and offers a variety of programs of study.

Boys and Girls Club Members of the Month

The Boys and Girls Club of Lake Shore is proud to announce Charlotte Hernandez and Kaidyn Lazar as December’s Members of the Month. Club Staff select members that have positive character values, are respectful, responsible, caring, and good citizens. The MOTM should also participate in various Club programs such as sports, games, arts & crafts, power hour, project learn, cooking club, club council, library and nature clubs, etc.

Charlotte was chosen for MOTM because she is an exemplary Club kid. Charlotte is quite artistic, and though quiet, she is very polite, well-mannered, and patient. She is a second grader at A.J. Schmidt Elementary, Mrs. Pinto is her favorite teacher, and she really likes ELA. At the Club, Charlotte enjoys playing in the gym the most. Away from the Club, her favorite thing to do is anything related to Minecraft. She is a fan of reading SpongeBob books, and her favorite song is “Let It Go.” Charlotte’s role models are both of her parents, and when she grows up she would like to be a veterinarian.

Kaidyn is in fifth grade at A.J. Schmidt Elementary where he likes art class and Mrs. Brumagin. Not surprisingly, Kaidyn’s favorite thing to do at the Club is help the staff. He is always looking for jobs to do to help make the staff’s jobs easier and never needs to be asked. Kaidyn never complains, always listens to staff, and always behaves appropriately. Away from the Club, Kaidyn likes to play with LEGOS, is a big fan of the Star Wars Complete Cross-Sections books, and someday would like to be a LEGO designer! His favorite song to listen to is “I’m On Top of the World” and Kaidyn’s role model is his dad.

Karlee Kielar is the Club’s Student of the Month. Despite only being in second grade, Karlee attends Power Hour (homework room) consistently and racks up plenty of homework points for doing so. Even though she is a dedicated student, she finds time for fun things to do at the Club as well, like playing in the games room (her favorite). Away from the Club she likes to play with friends.

Karlee attends A.J. Schmidt Elementary where Mrs. Pinto is her favorite teacher, and she loves art class. Karlee’s favorite song is “Blank Space” by Taylor Swift, and her favorite thing to read is iCarly books. Her role model is singer/ actress Becky G, and when she grows up she would like to be a singer too.

Our Junior Staff of the Month is Jesse Gryczkowski, a sixth grader at Lake Shore Middle School. Junior Staff work the Snack Shack and assist Club staff with activities and chores. As a Junior Staff, Jesse is always willing to answer the call of duty. When he’s at the Club he also likes playing active games in the gym and helping the staff set up daily free snack for all the kids. His favorite teacher is Mrs. Evans and he enjoys art class. Jesse enjoys hanging out with friends when he’s not at the Club, reading his favorite book Storm Breaker, and listening to his favorite band Linkin Park. Jesse’s role model is his father, and when he gets older he would like to be a United States Marine.

Southtowns Catholic School Decades Day

SCS celebrated our Community and Decade Day during Catholic Schools Week. Students came to school dressed in their favorite decade: 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, or 90s. Music from each of the decades was played throughout the day. and students got up and danced when they heard the music.

Southtowns Catholic School Celebrates Ash Wednesday

On Wednesday, February 10th, students and faculty attended Mass at Saint John Paul II Parish, in Lake View, for the 8:30 Ash Wednesday Mass. After they received their ashes, everyone returned to their classrooms. Father Peter had a special service at 10:00 just for the Preschool and explained what Ash Wednesday was and answered any questions before Preschool received their ashes. Students at SCS attend Mass every Friday but this was a special week and attended Wednesday instead.
