Middle School students at SS. Peter & Paul recently competed at the regional Future City Competition. Students are given the challenge to design a virtual city using SimCity™ 4 Deluxe computer software. They have to write a research essay on engineering a solution to a social need and write a city narrative describing the city and key design attributes. The Boys & Girls Club of Lake Shore’s first-ever dodgeball tournament fundraiser was a big hit, and adults and kids alike had a blast! Thank you to all the folks that volunteered their time to make this function a success, as well as the participants themselves for attending our event.

Dodgeballs were flying and smiles were aplenty as the thrill of competition filled the air! The prize packs were also very well-received and the winners were certainly deserving. Everyone is already looking forward to next year and we are looking to build upon our first year’s success.

New York State Senator Panepinto Visits J.T. Waugh

New York State Senator Marc Panepinto visited the J.T. Waugh Elementary Building on January 15, 2016. The Senator ran a writing/art contest for children during the fall with the theme "I am thankful for...". Senator Panepinto was impressed to learn that 187 students from J.T. Waugh entered. This amount of pupils represents the largest number out of his Senate District.

Students received personal certificates and letters from the Senator. The classes that participated included: Mrs. Wade, Mrs. Takacs, Mrs. Amoia, Mr. Lamoreaux, Mrs. Wegrzynowski, Mrs. Whipple, Mrs. Addison, Mrs. Ruszaj, Mr. Lewis and Mr. Sills. Students' submissions can be viewed on Senator Panepinto's website. This was an exciting experience for all involved.

Robert A. Kirwan of Brant, NY passed February 3, 2016, at age 76. He was born November 10, 1939.

Beloved father of Patrick, Michael, John (Annette) Kirwan; grandfather of nine grandchildren and one greatgrandchild; brother of John (Susan) Kirwan and the late Thomas Kirwan; brother-inlaw of Barbara Kirwan; also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services were held at Wentland Funeral Home, 10634 Main St. (Rte. 62), North Collins, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial from St. Anthony’s Church Farnham, NY. Mr. Kirwan is a Navy Veteran. __________

Erin Marie Brophy of Cape Coral, FL , formerly of Angola, NY age 29, passed away February 2, 2016.

Born on February 3, 1986 in Buffalo, NY. Erin was a graduate of Lake Shore High School, Angola, NY, moving to Cape Coral in 2005. She worked at Miceli’s Restaurant, and Spa 33, both in Matlacha, FL. Erin enjoyed; fishing and spending time on the water, riding 4-wheeler’s, and living life to the fullest.

Erin is survived by her loving family including her mother, Linda Cultrara; daughter, Savannah; sister, Amanda Brophy; brother, Adam Brophy; grandmother Mary Jane Brophy; aunt and godmother, Joyce Schaufelberger; the love of her life, Jimmy Perrine; her loving Clark family; and her Labrador, “Wellington”. Erin is preceded in death by her father, Raymond H Brophy, Jr.; grandparents Raymond H. Brophy, Mary (Gehen) and Angelo Cultrara. Erin was “loved by so many”.

She leaves behind many wonderful friends and family members.

A memorial visitation will be held Tuesday, February 9, 2016 from 3-7 PM at the Addison Funeral Home Inc. 262 N. Main Street, Angola, NY where services will follow visitation at 7 PM. “LOVE YOU MORE” ___________

Jesse Clayton Bilowus, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Bilowus of Angola, NY, was named to the Dean’s List at Pensacola Christian College for academic achievement during the 2015 fall semester. This was a result of earning a B average or higher.

As an extension activity, the 8th grade students went on a field experience to the Microsoft Store in the Galleria Mall. Snowball 2016 was held Friday, January 29th, 2016. This was the fifth annual Snowball dance for 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders within the WNY Catholic Schools. It was a great honor that Southtowns Catholic School was chosen as the host school for this years Snowball Dance. Catholic Schools Week Kicks Off with Mismatch Day

Catholic School Week is officially underway. Students at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic School and other schools in the Diocese spend the week celebrating Catholic Education.

Miss Cassi Johnson's Grade 3 class did a "Book in a Box" project. The kids had to read a book and then decorate a box to represent the book. They had to fill it with at least 8 different objects that represent sections of the book. Each object needed a note card that included the name of the object and a paragraph about how the object is important to the book.
