On January 20, 2016 the Brant Evans Girl Scouts hosted a "He and Me Masquerade Ball" for all the local Girl Scouts.

Over 70 girls attended the Ball with their guests at Lake Erie Beach Fire Hall. Girls picked an important "He" in their life to bring to the dinner catered by Chievetta's and danced the night away with DJ John McEvoy.

Eden’s Community Respite Care Program Celebrates A Mexican Fiesta

Taking the chill out of a cold January day and enjoying song and dance of a Mexican Fiesta are (L-R) Bev Nash, Betty Burdick and visiting from Rochester, NY, Lifespan representative Doris Green.

Activities of the day included creating Mexican paintings, singing songs from south of the boarder, dancing and learning the Cha Cha, and Cumbia. Lunch was also served with all the Mexican trimmings.The Eden respite program began last spring and attendance continues to grow monthly for this much needed free service. Respite program is a one on one care program for individuals with dementia and early stages of Alzheimer's and their caregivers. __________

On February 8, 2016

The Brant Town Board has authorized a referendum for the taxpayers to decide whether they should be responsible for the PURCHASE of beach front from a property owner who doesn’t want to see the property developed. Why should the taxpayers of Brant pay this property owner $600,000 for a beach which the taxpayers don’t want and can’t afford?

The Town Board ignored a public opinion survey which was OVERWHELMING OPPOSED to the purchase. The town already owns a beautiful Town Park, and Evangola State Park is less than 2 miles from the property in question.

In a recent paid political ad, Lenny Pero claims that the cost of the purchase will be only $650,000 over 20 years. He obviously doesn’t understand that the typical municipal bond in New York costs the taxpayers between 3.5% and 4.5%. At only 3.5% on the acquisition price of $600,000, the interest will be over $235,000, all paid for by the taxpayers, making the purchase price over $835,000. And that is just the start, since Pero makes no mention of the cost of upkeep, insurance and the building shelters.

Boys & Girls Club of Lake Shore Receives Grant

The locally owned and operated Pizza Hut restaurants (Hospitality West, LLC d/b/a Pizza Hut) awarded $42,907 in grants to area children’s charities through their nonprofit organization Raising Dough for Kids. The check presentation took place at the Amherst Pizza Hut on Sheridan Drive on Tuesday, January 26th.

The Boys & Girls Club of Lake Shore was one of the lucky recipients this year and was awarded a total of $2,780 toward our new Photography Club program that we will be starting later in the year. The staff is extremely excited to offer a new, unique opportunity to our members, and allow them to develop and showcase their creativity in a new outlet! On behalf of the members, staff, and council members of the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Shore, we would like to extend a tremendous thank you to Raising Dough for Kids and all of the Pizza Hut restaurants that participated in helping to raise the donated funds. These funds were raised through two fundraising events that took place in the area Pizza Hut restaurants in 2015. In 2002 the locally owned and operated, Hospitality West, LLC, d/b/a Pizza Hut, formed “Raising Dough for Kids,” a non-profit (501-C3) organization to raise monies for Western New York Children's Charities. Since 2002, local Pizza Hut restaurants have raised and donated over $950,000 to WNY area charities.

This week, the Winter 2016 Raising Dough for Kids campaign in the local Pizza Hut restaurants kicked off. For the next four weeks customers may donate their change to the Raising Dough for Kids foundation. Please help us spread the word. The campaign runs from 1/21-2/17. Agriculture Lions Club celebrates 70 years of Community Service

The Evans Township Lions Club commemorated 70 years of service to the residents of the Towns of Evans and Brant, with a dinner at M.P.B. Hall on Sat. Jan, 16, 2016.

A program highlighting the service history of the club, from raising money to help purchase the first ambulance in the town of Evans, and the organ for the new high school building in the 1950's, the town "Rodeo" in the late 1950's, and donating the bleachers that are still in use at the high school football field,and the annual Halloween Children's Costume parade, thru the present service projects like the Memorial Day weekend Community activities at the Veterans Park in Derby, and of course the Lions Club core mission of sight conservation.

A display of paper club records and awards and memorabilia, a computer slide show of pictures from more recent events, and a video of our 50th anniversary celebration were presented as part of the evenings program.

Commerative proclamations from Lions Clubs International, (the largest service organization in the world with 1.4 million members worldwide), Mr. Mark Poloncarz, Erie County Executive, Mrs.Mary Hosler, Town of Evans Supervisor, Mr. Len Pero, Town of Brant Supervisor, and Mr. "Hub" Frawley, Mayor of The Village of Angola were presented and accepted by Lion Spencer Vail, the current President of the Lions Club. They all proclaimed Jan.31,2016 as Evans Township Lions Club Appreciation Day. The club was chartered 70 years ago on that date.
