CRC Hosts a Promise Tree to Promote Safety This Season

The Evans-Brant Citizens for Responsible Choices (CRC) joined with local school children this season to decorate the Lake Shore Community Promise Tree, which is on display at Evans Town Hall, located at 8787 Erie Road, Angola, NY 14006 The “Promise Tree” is decorated with ornaments made by school children in the Lake Shore School District. Students and teachers from Highland Elementary and Lake Shore Middle School participated in decorating the tree.

The hand-crafted ornaments represent each child’s wish that adults refrain from driving while impaired by alcohol, prescription medication, or other drugs during the holiday season.

“This time of year can be especially hazardous for travel due to inclement weather, increased hours of darkness, travel, and parties that involve celebration, our roadways can be dangerous during the holiday season” said Lori Szewczyk, Interim President of CRC. “The Promise Tree is just a reminder about our responsibility to the safety of others, particularly the children in our lives,” She said.

The Evans-Brant “Citizens for Responsible Choices” was founded in the spring of 2006 when Western New York United Against Drug and Alcohol Abuse, Inc., helped form a grassroots community coalition to help combat underage drinking. CRC was instrumental in spearheading the partnership with the Lake Shore Central School District to mandate alcohol and other drug awareness parent training to qualify students to attend the senior prom and other school dances. Well over 1,500 Lake Shore parents and guardians have now attended a “Parent Forum” and many other WNY school districts have now followed Lake Shore’s example and issued similar mandates.

The Boys and Girls Club of Lake Shore is proud to announce Jacob Siegel and Emma Clifton as November’s Members of the Month. Immaculata Academy Students Participate in National Mix it up at Lunch Day

For the seventh year, Immaculata Academy students participated in the national event, Mix It Up At Lunch Day. Students switched lunch tables to meet new friends and find commonalities with their classmates. The event helps to combat bullying by promoting friendship, respect and unity.

Immaculata’s theme this year was from Disney's Lilo and Stitch and was "Ohana means family." At lunch, students were assigned new tables to encourage interaction with other students in their class and in other grade levels.

The cafeteria was transformed into a Hawaiian luau, students were treated to festive glasses of tropical punch, and Lilo and Stitch was projected onto a screen to help carry through the theme.

Throughout lunch, students took turns signing a large Hawaiian flower constructed out of poster board to show that together they are a family, strengthened by love and respect. They pledged to always treat others with kindness, honesty, and love and to acknowledge that everyone is different, but that they add to their community with their unique personalities.
