Legislator Mills Announces Event Raised $1,355 for Angola Library

Erie County Legislator John J. Mills announces that his Hot Dog Roast Fundraiser brought in $1,355 for the Angola Public Library. The donation was presented to Library Director Jennifer Page, along with Library Board Trustee Mari Grennell, Library Board Treasurer Jacqueline Haderer, Library Board President Jack Kuebler and Village of Angola Trustee and Library Liaison Carole Kin on August 25.

“I am happy to announce that in six years the Angola Library Hot Dog Roasts have raised $7,307 to support programming and the purchase of materials for the library.

Thank you to everyone in the community for your support and for making these events a success,” said Legislator Mills.

“This event has become one of the high points of every summer. Our community has been wonderful in its support of our library. We would like to thank Legislator Mills for all of his time and effort in providing these fundraisers,” said Library Director Page.

Evans Senior Center is continuing to expand their resource workshops such as a beginners sewing class, which was a huge success due to our instructor Miriam that volunteered her time and energy to teach fellow seniors how to read a pattern and make a beautiful tote of their own choice of material. It is a true pleasure to witness the new re growth of the center and see individuals from all backgrounds be part of the senior center positive direction by volunteering of their time and as the Director of the center I cannot emphasize enough how much we appreciate our volunteers that instruct or several workshops.

It was September 9, 1928 and the Angola Airport was officially opened. The field of 139 acres was located on the Hardpan Road close to where the N.Y. State Thruway now crosses, two miles south of Angola, in the Town of Brant.

The main runway was 2,800 feet with a cross runway of 1,500 feet.

According to The Buffalo News, the Angola Airport Inc., was established and financed through the cooperation of public spirited citizens. The field was built and promoted by the Eastern Flying Clubs, Inc. P.L. Schwert, president of the Bank of Angola was the leading benefactor. Other officers were listed as: A.P. Bundy, Vice President; L.A. House, Secretary, and George Peck, treasurer. In addition to two runways, there was also a 60-foot hangar with space for six planes as well as space for gas and mechanics’ services. Over 10,000 people attended the Angola Airport Dedication. We have learned through the written words of Mrs. Joan Houston (Angola, NY), that at one time there were twenty-nine students learning to fly with nine local airplanes operating.
