The Brant-Farnham Historical Society participated in the 3rd annual Farnham Fire Department Community Days. The two day event was held on September 1st and 2nd at the Steven J. Rauker Veterans Memorial Park on Commercial Street, Farnham, N.Y. This is the third year that the historical society has been in attendance to highlight and promote the history of Erie County’s smallest village. The exhibit consisted of six display tables which showcased a variety of Farnham related information, stories, photographs, photo albums and memorabilia. On display as well were six banners depicting people, structures and scenes of our community.

In our other photo, Josephine Battaglia, (Farnham’s Oldest Citizen), is proudly showing Mike Graci, her grandson’s photo. The Battaglia family has served in two branches of the military over three generations. This includes Josephine’s husband and his three brothers, her two sons and previously mentioned grandson. Josephine’s brotherin-law Salvatore J. Battaglia, Pvt. 9th Div., 60th Infantry, served in WWII from January 1941 - March 26, 1943. Tragically, he was killed in action in North Africa. For his ultimate sacrifice, Salvatore earned and received posthumously, a Purple Heart Medal and certificate. Mike Graci is a Veteran as was his father William. Sadly, Mike’s uncle Michael A. Graci, was killed in action during WWII.

We should mention that in 2018, the Village of Farnham is celebrating its 126th anniversary of incorporation. In addition to the display, the society also had copies of the 2018 Historical News Journal (Whole No. 52) available for free. The journal, published and distributed by the historical society, contains 52 pages of local Brant-Farnham history. The historical society also had a raffle for the “WNY Veterans: A Buffalo News Salute to our WWII Heroes History” book, which was won by Farnham resident and Vietnam Veteran – David Pruett.

Angola Public Library at the 3rd Annual Farnham Community Days

Recently, the Angola Library had their book sale, at which the Brant-Farnham Historical Society purchased a variety of history related books. The Society, anxious to promote both history and reading, then shared a fronttable spot in their display tent at the 3rd Annual Farnham Community Days, with the Angola Public Library. The festival was held on September 1st and 2nd at the Veteran’s Park in Farnham, N.Y.

The history books were available for free to people of all ages who stopped by. Some of the titles included: the Civil War, events of the 1980’s and 1990’s, the Revolutionary War, Daniel Boone, the Statue of Liberty and even Bicycle history! The young men in this photo enjoyed looking through and choosing their own history book from the selection. Throughout the two days, we heard over and over - “I love history!” We began the weekend with over 30 books and at the end of the festival, only 3 were remaining! The Angola Library provided free pencils and bookmarks as well as brochures regarding their upcoming events and new hours. The Angola Library is located on Main Street in the Village of Angola.
