Director Veronica Sullivan and staff hosted 2nd Senior Social Spring Fling event for the members of the senior center. This particular event was a huge success by the sounds of laughter and the witnessing of individuals dancing the day away by listening to the band “ Mystery Hill” Town Supervisor Mary Hosler came and interacted with everyone at the event. The centers continuing progresses to move forward and promote diverse events are being well received by the individuals in the community. It was rewarding for the staff to see all their efforts be appreciated and a success . Evans senior center is promoting and pushing for all ages to interact and be part of the new direction of the center, with this being said we all look forward for the next social dance event in November which, the Director is in the works to arrange. Motor Vehicle Usage on Highways and Beaches A motor vehicle is every vebicle operated or driven upon a public highway, which is propelled by any power other than muscular power with very few exceptions outside of handicapped devices. The New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law states “No motor vehicle shall be operated or driven upon public highways of this state without first being registered.” lf you or someone you know operates a gas or electrically powered limited use motorcycle, low speed vehicle, scooter, golf cart, goped, (motorized skateboard) or cycle, the operator may be subject to charges under law and impoundment of said vehicle. We are asking everyone to be aware of these requirements, which include proper licensing in the operation of such vehicles, and will result in impoundment if operated on public highways. In addition, many of these operators are below the licensing age for operating vehicles on public highways, which could result, in addition to in1poundment, to charges against parents or guardians for permitting improper use. In addition to these legal requirements, many of these vehicles are unsafe when operated upon public highways. §193-31. Use of motor vehicles on any beach. (Evans Town Code) A. The use of any motor vehicle on any beach in the Town is prohibited. B. The term “motor vehicle” as used in this subsection is defined as any automobile, motorcycle, motorscooter, minibike, motorbike or any transportation device equipped with an internal-combustion engine or electric motor, except a powered invalid chair, any vehicle used to launch and recover boats or clean the beach or construction and utility vehicles that may be used to do necessary work on the beach. PUBLIC NOTICE TOWN OF EVANS The following resolution was adopted by the Evans Town Board at their Meeting of June 20, 2018: Supervisor Hosler moved and Councilman Schraft seconded, WHEREAS, the July 4th celebration in the Lake Erie Beach/Point Breeze area brings several thousand plus people to this community to honor our nation’s birth; and WHEREAS, the public safety responsibility for those people enjoying the celebration, those people residing in this celebration area, and the people who will transverse this area, are a responsibility that is best served through the following road closures; therefore be it RESOLVED, that the Town Board of the Town of Evans hereby authorizes the closing of Kennedy Avenue and Eisenhower Road from Lake Shore Road to Quebec Street, the closing of Eastwood Avenue from Lake Shore to Northfield Street, the closing of Northfield from Eastwood Avenue to Kennedy Ave, the closing of Garfield Avenue from Lake Shore to Oakland Street and the closing of Oakland from Garfield Ave to Kennedy Ave, for the purpose of providing public safety to all participants, residents, and traffic beginning at 7 p.m. on the 3rd of July (rain date 4th of July), and re-opening at the conclusion of the event, in addition to all other public safety measures as set forth under the Code of the Town of Evans; and be it further RESOLVED, that there will be no vehicles allowed in Lake Erie Beach Park beginning at 4 a.m. July 3rd through 4 a.m. July 5th; and be it further RESOLVED, that the Town Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to publish this resolution in the June 24, 2018 edition of the Angola Pennysaver and the June 29, 2018 edition of the The Observer, the official paper of the Town of Evans. Fr. Michael Sajda, OFM Conv., President of St. Francis High School announced graduation ceremonies honoring the class of 2018. The Class of 2018 of St. Francis High School was honored at the annual Baccalaureate Liturgy at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 on campus and Commencement Exercises at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 25, 2018 at Our Lady of Victory Basilica in Lackawanna, NY. Fr. Michael and Mr. Thomas Braunscheidel, Principal, presented diplomas to the graduates at the Commencement Exercises, assisted by Dr. Mary Lou Stahl, Assistant Principal, Mr. John Zygaj, Dean of Students introduced the graduates Fr. Michael Sajda, OFM Conv., President of St. Francis High School was the principal celebrant and homilist at the Baccalaureate Liturgy. Connor J. Judkiewicz, the Valedictorian of the Class of 2018, welcomed guests at the Commencement Exercises and Ty D. Syta, the Salutatorian of the Class of 2018; welcomed the guests at the Baccalaureate Liturgy. The class of 2018 collectively earned $17 Million in total Scholarship and Merit based institutional aid. The Town of Brant community gathered together at the Memorial Park on the Brant Four Corners, to remember and honor our Veterans this past Memorial Day. It was a wonderful crowd with people of all ages in attendance. The services began with remarks by newly elected Town of Brant Supervisor Mark DeCarlo, who welcomed all Veterans, elected and appointed Officials from Brant and Farnham and town residents to this ceremony of remembrance. Frank Broughton from the Faith Bible Baptist Church delivered the opening prayer. The guest speaker was Senior Chief Neil I. Ross, US Navy, Retired, with a speech that invited heartfelt reflection for those who listened intently to each spoken word. Neil finished his speech with these final thoughts: “In closing, I would like to remind everyone here:“There’s a reason why you don’t get a bill for your freedom...It’s already been paid for!! By the men and women that we honor here today!” The American Legion Newcomb Long Post 928 honored our fallen heroes with a gun salute; immediately following was the playing of “Taps” while the honor guard stood at respectful attention. This very emotional tradition, was then followed by the presentation of the Memorial Wreath. After which, the five flags representing the five branches of service were placed in front of the Veterans monument by five young children. Interspersed among the Brant Memorial Day service tributes were the well known and well chosen songs of “The Star Spangled Banner” and “Amazing Grace”. We all sang together - quietly and reserved at first, but becoming stronger and louder as each note was played. To close the solemn ceremonies, Father Frank Kadryna from Parish of Our Lady Church, Brant N.Y. gave the Benediction. Coffee and donuts were available after the service.
