William J. Hammer of Derby, NY, passed away June 14, 2017. Beloved husband of the late Judith; loving companion of Arlene Gburek. Father of William (Karen) Hammer, Beth (David) Rammacher, Susie (David) Mazzoni, Barbara (Frank Crapsi) Majuk, Pattie (Pat) Kerl, Billie (Jeffrey) Tylec, Melissa (Brendan) Taylor and the late David Hammer.

NY, passed away June 14, 2017. Beloved husband of Donna Borngraber. Loving father of Rebecca (Jeff) Mlacker and R. Bradley Borngraber.

Brother of Jean Brunelli and Joyce Cullen. The family will be present to receive friend Saturday from 6-9PM and Sunday from 1-3PM and 6-8 PM at the Addison Funeral Home, Inc. 262 N. Main St. Angola, NY. Funeral service will be held Monday at 11AM in Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Farnham, NY. Clark was a Former Judge in the Town of Brant, where he also served as the Past Chief of Police, was patrolman for over 20 years, served as a Town Councilmen and was the past Assessor.

He was currently serving on both the Holy Cross Lutheran and Brant Cemetery Boards.

He was also a Life Member of the Evans Rod and Gun Club, and former owner of DM & K Enterprises in Brant. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the Farnham Volunteer Fire Department or Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

Brant Summerfest at Brant Town Park

The Town of Brant held their annual Summerfest Friday June 9 thru Sunday June 11. This family- friendly event featured live music, a waterball contest, bounce house , beer tent, parade and kiddy parade, fireworks, food and craft vendors, etc. A featured event for this years festival was the 1st annual “ I’m A Little Farmer” Children’s PARADE & DRAG RACE. A live performance was held on Saturday night by Elvis impersonator Terry Buchwald. The 3 day event was well attended, with the cooperation from Mother Nature, who provided beautiful weather this year.

Sinatra Sunday at Grandview Bay Golf Course

Grandview Bay Golf Course, along with Beachside Bar & Grill, was the site of a “Sinatra Sunday” spectacular on Sunday June 11.Gary Mueller has been entertaining audiences nationally for over 50 years and he brought his 1 of a kind Sinatra tribute show to Grandview, to the delight of all in attendance.

A special lunch menu, consisting of Italian/ Sinatra favorites, was provided by Beachside Bar & Grill. Whether relaxing under cover in the cool shade while watching the show or catching a cold drink in the sun on the patio, it was a memorable and enjoyable summer afternoon. Evans Summerfest at Evans Town Park

The Town of Evans held their annual Summerfest celebration Sunday June 11 @ Evans Town Park. The community event was held from Noon -7PM. In addition to a great variety of local craft vendors, those attending were treated to the following events: A Fire Truck Pull to benefit Special Olympics, a Chicken BBQ provided by Evans Center Fire Department, kids activities including dance performances from Suzanne’s School of Dance, along with bounce houses from Bouncy Jumper and airbrush tattoos . In addition to a vast number of Chinese Auction items donated by community groups and businesses, local food and dessert vendors provided tasty food items throughout the day. There truly was something for everyone.

5th Annual Frederick Garrasi Memorial 5K

The 5th Annual Frederick Garrasi Memorial 5K event was held Sunday June 11 at and around the Lake Erie Beach Fire Hall.

There were 333 runners and walkers who participated in the 5K . The community came together in a big way, through each and every runner, walker, spectator, party-goer, sponsor and volunteer. The spirit of generosity was in full display by everyone who donated their time, talent, energy, gift items and money to help continue the Garrasi family mission to give scholarships and donate charitably in Freddy’s memory.

Mother’s day came to Southtowns Catholic School as the Kindergarten Readiness held their annual Mother’s day Luncheon. The children made all the decorations and prepared the ice cream sundae’s. Each students sat with their mom and made a special craft. After everyone ate, the kids sang several Mother’s Day songs. Elmira College celebrated its 162nd Commencement on Sunday, June 4 at the Murray Athletic Center, Pine Valley.

The exercises included the conferring of 296 undergraduate and 32 graduate degrees. Southtowns Catholic School Spring Concert

All students from Preschool to Grade 8 worked tremendously hard to prepare the music for their Spring Concert.

The students sang and some played instruments. For this program, the students learned and discussed musical form for all grade levels due to lyric and pitch-matching inherent within it. With a “Salute to the Armed Forces” sung by the Middle school and a “Life in Movies” by the band, its was a wonderful concert. A very special thank you to all the faculty, staff and Mr. Daniel Darnely. Without your commitment and help, the students would not be able to achieve the success they have done. The Town of Brant Honors Veterans on Memorial Day

It was rainy morning this past Memorial Day, but that did not deter Town of Brant Residents from gathering at 9am at the Brant four corners Memorial Park to honor our servicemen and women.

Supervisor Leonard Pero began the services by inviting the Very Reverend Father Senior Francis Kadryna, of Parish of Our Lady Church to give the Invocation. Following Father’s prayer, all were asked to join in the Pledge of Allegiance led by Brant Town Clerk Barbara Daniel. Supervisor Pero and Mayor Jere Hoisington recognized our Veterans and the Brant and Farnham Officials in attendance thanking everyone for coming out despite the wet weather. It was wonderful to see so many of our youth in attendance. In his speech, Supervisor Pero explained what Memorial Day represents and beseeched the youth not let this yearly celebration of our veterans ever be lost. He told all that we should never forget all veterans who so bravely served and are currently serving our country. A prayer was then read by Chaplin of the American Legion Post 928 Joseph Tomlinson (recently honored as Veteran of the Year), after which the American Legion Newcomb Long Post 928 gave a three round salute.

This was followed immediately by the playing of Taps, which is always a reflective, soulful and heart tugging reminder to give thought and honor to those who have fought for our freedoms. Five US Flags, in honor of the Army, Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard and Marines were placed in front of the monument by five young children. The fallen soldier veterans wreath was placed by Deputy Supervisor Chad Kaczmarek. Father Francis Kadryna gave the benediction.

After the ceremony, the Town of Brant provided Coffee and donuts for all.

Pantano Presented the Excellence in Nursing Senior Year Award

Laura Pantano of Derby, NY was awarded the Excellence in Nursing Senior Year Award during the annual Elmira College Nurse Pinning Ceremony in Speidel Gymnasium. The ceremony, hosted by the nurse education program, recognized Laura and the other students who completed the requirements for a bachelor of science degree in nursing.

Purple Hearts Ceremony Held in Town of Evans

On Wednesday June 14 ( Flag Day ), the Town of Evans held a ceremony designating it as a Purple Heart Community. Evans Town Supervisor Mary Hosler presided over the event. Also in attendance were John Mills, chairman of the Erie County Legislature, Kim Peck, a representative from State Senator Chris Jacobs office, numerous Purple Heart recipients from throughout WNY, as well as members of our community. The new sign can be seen on Beach Rd near the Tim Hortons, on the corner of Rt 5.
