SS. Peter & Paul School Kitchen Chem participants ended their STREAM Academy by using the skills they learned in Kitchen Chem to have a Chili Cook Off! Each of the four groups had to bring their own recipe and ingredients and work cooperatively to make the chili. The next day we brought in our 4 esteemed judges to choose their favorite based on taste, appearance, and ingredient uniformity. SS. Peter & Paul Pastor Rev. Art Mattulke, connoisseur of food, School Principal Sister Marilyn Ann Dudek, our resident school treat expert, and a former Golden Spoon Chili Cook Off winner, Deacon Carl Koester took the time to come and give our students their feedback! It was an extremely difficult choice as all the recipes were delicious...after conferring our judges chose “My Father’s Chili Recipe” cooked by Mia Insera, Emily Trask, Gabby McGuire-Skalski, and Taylor Loretto. BACON WRAPPED JALAPENO POPPERS Ingredients: 6 whole jalapeno peppers 6 oz cream cheese (the block, not the spreadable) 1 green onion ,finely minced 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 1.5 oz sharp cheddar cheese, shredded 12 slices bacon Directions: 1. Cut the stem off each jalapeno and cut in half lengthwise. Using a small spoon, scrape out seeds & membranes. 2. In a small bowl combine cream cheese, green onion, garlic powder and cheddar cheese. Stuff into the jalapeno halves. 3. Wrap each jalapeno completely with bacon ensuring the cheese is covered. Secure with toothpicks. 4. Place jalapenos on grill cut side down and grill just until bacon begins to crisp (about 6 minutes). Gently loosen bacon from the grill and flip jalapenos over. Reduce heat to medium-low and cook an additional 10-12 minutes or until bacon is cooked and cheese is melted.

Universal Pre-Kindergarten Registration for the2018-2019 School Year Parents/guardians of children interested in enrolling in Universal Pre-Kindergarten for 2018, can pick up a registration packet at the William T. Hoag Educational Center, 42 Sunset Blvd., Angola, NY 14006. The child must meet the following requirements: •To be enrolled in the September 2018 Universal Pre-Kindergarten class, a child living in the Lake Shore Central School district must be four years of age on or before December 1, 2018 pursuant to §7120 of the Lake Shore CSD Policy Manual and NYS Education Department regulations. •Proof of age is required at the time of registration. A birth certificate, baptismal re cord, or a passport will serve as adequate proof of age. Southtowns Preschool Visits Chiavetta’s Greenhouse
On Thursday, May 17th, Southtowns Catholic School Preschool 3 took their annual field trip to Chiavetta’s Greenhouse in Angola. Miss Justine Chiavetta explained what seeds do, read a book about what flowers need to grow and had a diagram with flowers and seeds. The students each got a marigold, a pot and some dirt. After assembling their plant, they got to take it home. The next event on their list was a scavenger hunt to look for flowers. Miss Chiavetta gave the kids a picture of the many flowers that they have in their greenhouse and the kids then set out to find them. Thank you Chiavetta’s for a wonderful day! Former Derby Resident Heading to Africa
On May 20, Monique Lindsey reported to the Faith Bible Baptist Church of Eden about her trip to Burkina Faso, West Africa, for the next 2½ months to explore the possibility of starting a school and home for developmentally handicapped children. Prior to this trip, Miss Lindsey spent seven years as a missionary in Puerto Rico, and eleven years as a teacher at the Hidden Treasures Christian School near Greenville, South Carolina. She has had great success in educating the mentally and physically disabled children of her classes. Miss Lindsey fondly remembers her time growing up in Derby, and the influence that the church had on her life given to the care of others. Contributed by Faith Bible Baptist Church __________
