Benzing; dear mother of Frank (Michele), Robert (Amy) and Daniel (Kelley) Benzing; grandmother of Jason (Rachel), Sarah, Katelynn, Kyle, Mary Beth, Avery, Hayden and Reagan; greatgrandmother of Kaylin; sister of Judy (Dave) Donohue, Wayne (Donna) Pohlman and the late Jack Pohlman; Friends were received Tuesday and Wednesday at the LATIMORE-SCHIAVONE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8434 North Main St., Angola where prayers were said Thursday followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Most Precious Blood Church.

ATTENTION RESIDENTS:
Bicyclists and motorists are reminded that bicycles on public streets have the same rights and responsibility as automobile drivers. Respect the right-of-way of bicyclists because they are entitled to share the road with other drivers. Here are some important points for drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians to remember:
Bicyclists:
• Must ride in the same direction as other traffic, not against it.
• Must ride in a straight line as near to the curb or edge of roadway as practical -not on the sidewalk.
• Must make left and right turns in the same way that drivers do, using the same turn lanes.
• May legally move left to turn left, to pass a parked or moving vehicle, another bicycle, an animal, or to make a turn, avoid debris or any hazard.
• May choose to ride near the left curb or edge of a one-way street.
• May use a left turn lane. lf the bicyclist is traveling straight ahead, he or she should use a through traffic lane rather than ride next to the curb and block traffic making right turns.
Drivers:
• Must look carefully for bicyclists before opening doors next to moving traffic or before turning right.

Robert B. Rammacher
Of Angola, NY, May 26, 2017, age 77 Husband of the late Susan Victoria (Anderson) Rammacher, son of the slate Warren and Helen Rammacher; dearest father of David ( Beth) Rammacher, Michael (Ann) Rammacher, Deborah (Richard) Kurowski, Laurie (Rick) Johnson and the late Keith Rammacher; brother of Warren (Margie) Rammacher and the late Richard (Patricia) Rammacher and Ruth (Albert) Smith. Family received friends Sunday at the Addison Funeral Home Inc. 262 N. Main St., Angola, NY where services followed.
Rest in Peace
• Must safely merge toward the curb or into the bike lane.
• Must not overtake a bicyclist just before making a right turn. Merge first, then turn.
Pedestrians: (NYS V&T Law-Article 27-Section 1156. Pedestrians on roadways)
• (a)Where sidewalks are provided and they may be used with safety it shall be unlawful for any pedestrian to walk along and upon an adjacent roadway.
• (b)Where sidewalks are not provided any pedestrian walking along and upon a highway shall when practicable walk only on the left side of the roadway or its shoulder facing traffic which may approach from the opposite direction. Upon the approach of any vehicle from the opposite direction, such pedestrian shall move as far to the left as is practicable.
Just remember when riding your bike, be courteous, follow the rules of the road, wear safety equipment and when on your bike or in your automobile always practice defensive operation.
Douglas Czora Chief of Police

Snap Fitness 5K Raises $7,000 for The Care Project Foundation
Allison Tilert, Manager at Snap Fitness in Derby, NY announced today that the Snap Fitness Derby 5K Run/Walk held on Sunday, May 21, 2017 raised $7,000 for The Care Project. The Care Project was started locally as a way to help other families cope financially, with the hidden costs of having a child in long-term treatment. They provide gifts, gasoline cards, hospital cafeteria vouchers and other various food cards to help make the journey a little bit easier for families right here in WNY.
According to Tilert, this is the fourth year the club has held a 5K, and their best year so far. In addition to the race there was a Wheelbarrow and Basket raffle and post-race refreshments.
“We are thankful for everyone who was able to come out to support, volunteer and participate in this year’s event. It was for a great cause and we couldn’t have done it without everyone’s help. We would also like to give special congratulations to Andrew Masse for completing the 5K!,” said Tilert.

Southtowns Catholic School Butterfly Project
Miss Cassi Johnson’s Grade 3 class has been learning about the life cycle of the Painted Lady Butterfly. Starting out as tiny larva, they kids watched them turn into chrysalis and then the adult butterfly. The students had a butterfly release on May 22 and watched them all fly away. Pictured is Katelyn McCarthy with her butterfly on her jumper.

Retired Chief Masullo Honored by Erie County Law Enforcement Foundation
On Thursday, May 18, 2017, Retired Chief Ernest Masullo was honored at Salvatores Italian Gardens by the Erie County Law Enforcement Foundation. That evening, he was recognized for his dedicated services to Law Enforcement.
Chief Masullo started his law enforcement career in 1971 at the City of Richmond Virginia Police Department. In 1977, he was hired by the Erie County Sheriff Office. There, he worked at the Holding Center until he was hired by the Village of Angola as a partolman, and later worked for the Town of Evans Police Department beginning in 1978.
For the next 12 years, Ernie worked the midnight shift where he was instrumental with forming the Accident Investigation Unit. Chief Masullo was responsible for equipping the Evans Police Department with AED’s, making them one of the first departments to have AED’s in all police cars. He also helped his agency become accredited during his ten years as the department’s Accreditation Manager, and represented his agency as their Union President for nearly 30 years. In 2000, Ernie was promoted to Detective. Seven years later, he became Patrol Lieutenant and in the same year returned to detective unit as a Detective Lieutenant. He remained there until 2008, when he was promoted to Chief of Police.
During his tenure as Chief, he secured over a million dollars in grants, upgraded the equipment, built a state-of-theart 911 communication center and entered into a partnership with the US Border Security. He also partnered with the Seneca Nation of Indians to put a School Resource officer in the Lake Shore Schools, created the first ever narcotics unit within the Police Department, and worked with Erie County Crisis Services to form a critical incident team to help residents with emotional issues.

Loaded train 1877 at Erie Preserving Company, Farnham
In 1892, Farnham was a thriving community. It was an important railroad station mainly supported by the Erie Preserving Company, which was one of the largest canneries in New York State.
The canning company was located along Railroad Avenue in Farnham. The company burned (along with most of Farnham’s business district), during Farnham’s disastrous fire of 1899.
