Camp Porter Military Troops in Farnham, N.Y. – 1909

In a recent article we explained how the town of Brant and Village of Farnham were directly involved in World War I when a National Guard training camp - Camp Porter - was established on the shore of Lake Erie. The camp was named so in respectful memory of Major-General Josiah Porter and was located on the area of today’s Evangola State Park. We noted that the National Guard 65th and 74th regiments arrived via special train on the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railroad at the Station once located on Railroad Avenue in the Village of Farnham. Our photos today provide a glimpse back at that amazing time.
