NOTICE OF ANNUAL SCHOOL BUDGET MEETING BUDGET REFERENDUM AND ELECTION NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Annual School Budget Meeting (Public Hearing) for qualified district residents will be held in the Lake Shore High School Library Media Center, 959 Beach Road, Angola, New York on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Annual School Budget Referendum and Election for (1) approval of the Annual School District Budget for the 2019-20 School Year; and (2) voting on the purchase of replacement vehicles; and (3) the Election of three qualified district residents to the office of Member of the Board of Education – each for a three-year term to commence on July 1, 2019; and (4) for the transaction of such other business as is authorized by law, will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., in the Lobby located outside the District Office/Gymnasium of the Lake Shore High School located at 959 Beach Road, Angola, New York 14006. TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that a copy of the statement of the amount of money which will be required for the 2019-20 fiscal year for school purposes, exclusive of public monies, may be obtained by any District resident, during the fourteen (14) days immediately preceding the Annual Meeting (that is, beginning on May 7, 2019), except Saturdays, Sundays or Holidays, at the District Office, 959 Beach Road, Angola, New York or in each school building between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that all candidates for the office of Member of the Board of Education shall be nominated by petition. Each nominating petition shall be directed to the District Clerk, shall be signed by at least twenty-five (25) qualified voters of the District, and shall state the residence of each signer, and shall state the name and residence of the candidate. Petitions shall be filed in the District Clerk’s Office located at 959 Beach Road, Angola, New York between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday except Holidays. Each petition must be filed in the District Clerk’s Office by no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2019. The three candidates who receive the highest number of votes will fill the expired terms of the three incumbents and will serve on the Board of Education for three-year terms to commence on July 1, 2019 and expire June 30, 2022. TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that voting on the budget and other propositions will consist of voting on the following propositions, as well as other such matters as may be lawfully presented at the meeting: PROPOSITION NO. 1 Shall the following resolution be adopted, to wit: RESOLVED, that the budget for the Evans-Brant (Lake Shore) Central School District for the fiscal year commencing July 1, 2019, and ending June 30, 2020, as presented by the Board of Education in the amount of $59,982,787, is hereby approved and adopted and the required funds therefore are hereby appropriated and the necessary real property taxes required shall be raised by a tax on the taxable property in the District to be
levied and collected as required by law. Adoption of this budget requires a tax levy increase of 1.88% which does not exceed the statutory tax levy increase limit of 2.54%. PROPOSITION NO. 2 Shall the following resolution be adopted, to wit: RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Evans-Brant (Lake Shore) Central School District (the “District) is hereby authorized to purchase the following replacement vehicles for use by the District in the transportation of students and general use by the District: three (3) full size diesel-powered 71-passenger school buses at an estimated maximum cost of $121,168.10 each; one (1) 30-passenger gasoline-powered school bus at an estimated cost of $65,154.80; one (1) 24-passenger 5-wheel chair position gasoline-powered wheel chair school bus at an estimated cost of $76,199.12; and one (1) 7-passenger gasoline powered Ford Expedition at an estimated cost of $65,190.00; for a total aggregate maximum cost of $570,048.22; with such aggregate cost to be raised by a tax upon the taxable property of the District to be levied and collected in annual installments as provided in Section 416 of the Education Law, with such tax to be partially offset by State aid available therefore, and, in anticipation of such tax, by the issuance of debt obligations of the District as may be necessary, not to exceed such maximum aggregate cost.

We of course recall where this building was situated - but - DO YOU? A few hints…it was located in the town of Brant. It is gone without a trace. In earlier days the building was a Kendall Motor Oil gas station. Later, the flying Pegasus logo (above the clock) represented Socony Mobil Oil. In 1966 Socony Mobil Oil became just Mobil Oil. The station was owned by Clarence Di Cenzo, who was married to Carrie LaDuca. According to the Brant family stories in our history books, Clarence also ran a gulf gas station in Angola, N.Y. Sadly, these small hometown, family-owned gas stations struggled and then became extinct. John Herc, who once owned and managed the Brant Store had shared some memories with us a few years back; reminiscing that inside of the station was a 1950’s style soda fountain shop, serving milkshakes, hamburgers and hot dogs. One more (big) hint…it was often seen as you traveled through the intersection of the Brant four corners. The photo was taken during the 1980’s by then town of Brant historian, Carlton Winters. SCHOOL TRANSFERS FOR NATIVE AMERICAN STUDENTS Pursuant to an agreement between the New York State Education Department and the Lake Shore (Evans-Brant) Central School District, Native American children residing within the Cat taraugus Reservation may attend the Lake Shore Central Schools by filing an application for transfer by April 15th each year. Such application for September enrollment shall be effective upon approval by the Lake Shore Superintendent, which approval or denial and the reasons therefore shall be set forth in writing. The state shall provide transportation for any child trans ferring under this section. All requests for the transfer of Native American children residing within the Cattaraugus Reser vation should be addressed to James Przepasniak, Superintendent of Schools, Lake Shore Cen tral Schools, 959 Beach Road, Angola, NY 14006, by April 15th.
