We have learned from Operation Good Neighbor (OGN) that each year after the Holidays the many efforts to provide food for those in need are not as plentiful. Consequently Most Precious Blood Church will be conducting a food drive to restock the Evans food pantry at OGN that will start Ash Wednesday March 6 and run through the Lenten season ending Easter Sunday April 21. We will accept dry and canned foods only with examples consisting of soups, cereals, pasta and vegetables. Preferred soup is chicken noodle and tomato. Baby food is also in great demand. Current programs of assistance will not provide for paper goods such as Kleenex, paper towels and toilet paper so these will be collected, also. Chester P. Zielinski, Jr., age 77, of Angola, New York, died Saturday, March 9, 2019. He was born April 9, 1941 in Buffalo, New York. He was a son of the late Chester P. and Mary (Bolera) Zielinski, Sr. Chester proudly served in the United States Army. He married his devoted wife, the former Joann M. Kowalewski on May 28, 1966. They were married for 52 years. Chester enjoyed fishing, horseback riding and bowling. In 2003 he and his wife bought their first travel trailer. Through the years they were able to travel across the United States and was able to visit many of the National sites.Upon Chester’s request, no services will be held at this time. Farnham Brownie Troop #592; planting flowers at the Farnham Post Office circa 1988

The meetings of Brownie Troop #592 were held at the Farnham Fire Hall; Janice Hirsch was their leader. One of their community projects involved planting flowers at the Farnham Post Office, which was then and is today, found on Commercial Street in the village of Farnham. Farnham, located in the town of Brant, is the smallest village in Erie County. Vincent Fininzio was the Postmaster and we believe the photo year was 1988. Pictured are (LR): Troop leader - Janice Hirsch, Brownies: Jolene Friend, Mary Kay Hirsch, Christina Chiavetta, Unknown, Jessica Wasmund and Erin Tambs, Postmaster Vincent Fininzio, and Brownies - Amy Tambs and Rachel Pugh.

Vincent Fininzio was “Officer in Charge” of the Farnham PO effective March 5, 1987. He would later become Postmaster on October 24, 1987 and would remain so until September 30, 1992, when he became the “Officer in Charge” and later Postmaster at the PO in Brant, N.Y. He served in that capacity until his retirement. Since 2013, the Farnham PO has been under the direction of Angola/Brant/Farnham Postmaster David Tempestoso. Karen Herc is and has been the Postal Service Employee (PSE) at Farnham, N.Y. since 2017.

The first recorded postmaster of Farnham (September 18, 1855) was Francis Snow. The village at that time was referred to as “Mill Branch” and “Sawmill Station” along the railroad line. Manville A. Morton became the Postmaster on April 9th, 1857. In 1866 “THE GAZETTEER OF NEW YORK STATE”, stated that “Sawmill Station on the E.& E. Rail Road contained 30 houses”. Hiram Crawford was the recorded Postmaster in that year. Later, the village name would be changed to Farnham in honor of Leroy Farnham. In 1892, the village became incorporated and the postmaster at that significant time was John C. McIntyre. One hundred years later, Madelyn “Maggie” Borosky was the “Officer in Charge” and Vincent Fininzio was postmaster, when we celebrated the village’s centennial year of 1992. Since 1855 there have been over 30 postmasters at the Farnham PO; today we have only mentioned a few. The village of Farnham recently commemorated 125 years of incorporation in 2017.

The milestone anniversaries of 100 and 125 years were highlighted at the Farnham post office with special pictorial postmarks. The 100 year anniversary postmark was designed by Rosalee “Tish” Hill, lifelong resident of Brant. The 125thyear anniversary postmark was designed by Angola native Christian LoGrasso, who today is a town of Eden resident.
