Mrs. Cassi Chudzik’s Grade 3 class is learning about Geology. The students had to research the difference between Igneous, Metamorphic & Sedimentary rocks. The next part of their project was to take a rock and make it into a character. It could have been “Ignatius” Igneous, “Magma” Metamorphic or “Sandy” Sedimentary. Each character had to be part of a story of how they captured their rock. When they were done, they read their story to the class and presented the rock that they caught.

jRed Raider Bowlers Win 5th Straight All-Catholic Championship

A strong finish during the initial qualifying game and a big 1st, 3rd & 5th Baker game assured the Red Raider Bowlers their 5th straight All-Catholic Championship Thursday at Classic Lanes.

The Red Raiders got off to a slow start, finding themselves down to both St. Joe's and Canisius after the first 7 frames of the opening match. Frannies had 7 open frames through the first 30 frames with only 5 doubles to show for their efforts. But Junior Nick Muszynski strung together 4 strikes in frames 7-10, Junior Eli Williams had 3 strikes in frames 8-10, Freshman Parker Flis strung 5 together in 8-10, and anchor Senior Ryan Crapo strung together 4 in frames 8-10. The strong finish resulted in Muszynski rolling a 201, Williams a 203, Flis a 222, and Crapo a 218 to get the team to a 1022 total, 13 ahead of Canisius.

The team opened the Baker portion of the tournament with a 245, with Crapo starting a string of 6 strikes in the 5th frame. An open in the 10th resulted in a 188 during game 2, but the Red Raiders bounced back with a 214 in game 3. After a lineup change for games 4 & 5, the Red Raiders rolled games of 180 & 226 to extend their lead. By the 5th frame of the last game St. Francis had their 5th straight All-Catholics locked up.

Muszynksi had only 2 open frames out of 10 during Baker, Senior Evan Hutter was 2 for 2 during Baker, and Williams was 10 for 12 clean, with 9 strikes.

Freshman Parker Flis was named All-Catholic MVP. In addition to his 222 Q-game, Parker also had a 100% clean frames during the 6 Baker games, including 12 strikes out of 16 opportunities.

Senior Ryan Crapo leaves St. Francis a 4-time All-Catholic Champion, 3X Regular Season Champion and a 3X NYSCHSAA State Champion Qualifier. He was also named 1st Team All-Catholic. Joining Crapo at the State Championship will be Flis (1st Team All-Catholic), Schindler, and Williams (both 2nd Team All-Catholic).

The Old Photo Album

Very soon it will be hay season!

The hay loader was a great labor saving invention. According to “The Encyclopedia of American Farm Implements & Antiques” by C. H. Wendel, it remained in use until the hay baler became the preferred method in the 1950s. One man usually loaded the wagon, while the other was driving either the team of horses or the tractor. The person on top, using a hay fork would grab the hay as it came to the top of the loader, and then would pile it onto the wagon, trying to keep the hay load nice and even as they traveled around the hay field. A mechanical loader, was much better than the alternative of loading loose hay by hand. We all agree, loading hay is a hot and dusty job, but a necessary part of farm life. The livestock need to eat!

The “1909 Atlas of Erie County New York” describes the Sager farm in the Town of Brant as follows: “Sager - “Sunny Side”; Contains 40 acres, owned by William Sager. It is located on Mud Road, Lot 78, 3/4 of a mile East of Farnham. General farming and fruit culture are the farm’s chief industries. Soil products include oats, corn, potatoes, wheat and 10 tons of hay are usually harvested from its fields…” The Sager family later sold the Sunny Side farm, (it is the current home of Ellsworth and Jamie Nolan), remaining in Brant, but moving just a little further down the street. They purchased the former Lizenfelt home and farm. Gram (Elsie) Sager and son Bobby with his wife Shirley and their family of four boys operated a dairy farm at this location for many years. Bobby and Shirley still reside there today, and they still make hay, but they now use a round baler!

Evangelist Billy Graham died recently at the age of 99. This humble country preacher spoke to more people about Christ than any man in history. He preached the gospel personally in 185 of the 195 nations on the earth. That is quite significant in light of the prophecy in this verse above. Mr. Graham's body lied in repose in the Rotunda of our capital in Washington, D.C. What an honor.

Many of this generation did not know Billy Graham. Television stations would pre -empt regular broadcasts to show him preaching! Go to YouTube. Punch in “Billy Graham sermons.” Watch the old crusades. See the tens of thousands who would gather to hear him preach. See the thousands who would come forward at the end of the sermon to receive Christ as their Saviour while the choir sang “Just As I Am.” Show your children, show your grandchildren, show your teens. This was a great part of America's history. Watch one of his sermons together with your family.
