Lake Shore Freshmen Academy Bowling Program
The Lake Shore Freshman Academy ran a winter bowling program at Chicks Lanes in Angola with over 50 freshmen participating each week. This program is designed to give freshmen, not currently involved in winter sports or music and theatrical productions, something to do after school. Freshman teachers, seniors, and freshmen learned how to bowl and also socialized to create lasting bonds that go on long after they leave the lanes.

A.J. Schmidt Students Team Up with Meals on Wheels
Kindergarten students at A.J. Schmidt Elementary wanted to spread some kindness in our community and decided to make Valentine's placemats for Meals on Wheels. These placemats were then included in the Valentine's Day meals they distribute throughout our area. They were hoping to place a smile on many faces for Valentine's Day. The kindergarten students were then fortunate enough to be visited by two representatives from Meals on Wheels, Ms. Christine Procknal, support services clerk, and Ms. Dawna Bennett, nutritionist. They talked to the students about the services Meals on Wheels provides and what goes into making a balanced meal. The kindergarteners did a great job spreading some kindness in our community.

Catholic Schools Week, which takes place at the end of January, is a fun time to celebrate the gift of Catholic education. This year SS. Peter & Paul, a Catholic Community School in Hamburg, hosted their art show during the special week. Families got to tour the gym, which was transformed into a beautiful art gallery. There was also a social in the cafeteria, where students could make their own edible work of art.Pictured from left is SS. Peter & Paul Principal Sr. Marilyn Ann Dudek, Diocese of Buffalo Superintendent of Catholic Schools Sr Carol Cimino and Art Teacher Patti Mehltretter.

Member of the Month at the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Shore
The Boys and Girls Club of Lake Shore is proud to announce Wyatt Lingsweiler and Kelsey Dynas as January’s Members of the Month (MOTM). Every month Club Staff deliberately choose members that are trustworthy, respectful, responsible, fair, caring, and good citizens at the Club. In addition to having positive character values, the MOTM should participate in a variety of the programs offered at the Club such as sports and games, arts and crafts, Power Hour and Project Learn, Cooking Club, Experiment Club, etc. Wyatt Lingsweiler is currently a 5th grade student at J.T. Waugh Elementary. At school, Wyatt’s favorite class is science and his favorite teacher is Mrs. Lindstrom. While at The Club, his favorite place to be is the gym, and his favorite staff member is Miss Mary. While at home, Wyatt likes to ride his bike, listen to country music and read Frank Zipzer books. He looks to his mom as his role model and when Wyatt grows up, he wants to be a salesman.
Kelsey Dynas is currently a 3rd grader at Highland Elementary, with Mrs. Serena being her favorite teacher. Her favorite subject is Art but at the Boys and Girls Club, her favorite activity to do is play air hockey. Her favorite staff here are Kara and Dennis. Outside of the Club, her favorite things to do are run, draw, and read. Her favorite author to read is Inbali Iserles who wrote the book Foxcraft, and she loves to listen to Twenty One Pilots. She wants to be a teacher when she grows up, and her role model is her teacher, Mrs. Serena.
Pictured with the Members of the Month is the Club’s Student of the month, Josephine DeJoy. Josie is a 5th grader at A.J. Schmidt. Her favorite subject is Gym, and her favorite teacher is Mr. Ruffino. Her favorite thing to do at the Club is work at the Snack Shack, and her favorite staff is Mary. When she’s not at the Club, she enjoys playing with her sisters or reading Inside Out and Back Again. Her favorite song is “Stitches” by Shawn Mendes. Her role model is her mother and when she grows up, she wants to be a Social Studies teacher.
Also pictured is the Junior Staff of the Month (JSOM). Our JSOM are responsible for working at our Snack Shack, a place for students to learn how to count cash, make change, take inventory, and countdown a cash register. This teaches our students responsibility and work ethic. Our JSOM for January is Logan Golden. Logan is a 7th grader at Lake Shore Middle School. His favorite subject is Science with his favorite teacher, Mrs. Kerl. When he’s at the Club hanging out with his favorite staff, Kara, he enjoys playing dodgeball in the Gym. At home, he enjoys playing outside, reading books by his favorite author, Rick Riordan, or listening to dubstep. His role model is his mom, and he wants to be a baseball player when he grows up.

In Mrs. Lauren Vacanti’s second grade class at SS. Peter & Paul School in Hamburg, students pretended to be a paleontologist. They had to carefully remove chocolate chips from the cookie using just a small instrument like paleontologists do when they dig for fossils.
