“And of some have compassion, making a difference:” - Jude 1:22
A man was walking along a beach at sunset. As he walked he could see a young boy in the distance. The boy kept bending down, picking something up and throwing it into the water. As the man approached he was able to see that the boy was picking up starfish that had been washed up. One at a time he was throwing them back into the water. The man asked the boy what he was doing, the boy replied, “I am throwing these washed-up starfish back into the ocean, or else they will die.” “But,” said the man, “you can’t possibly save them all, there are thousands on this beach, you can’t possibly make a difference.” The boy smiled, bent down and picked up another starfish, and as he threw it back into the sea, he replied “ I made a difference to that one.”
In this cold hard world, be a difference maker. Have compassion on someone today!

A. J. Schmidt Elementary Has a Surprise Visitor
Airman Brandon McCaulley, a graduate of the Lake Shore Central School District, visited A. J. Schmidt Elementary School on February 12, 2018. Airman McCaulley is stationed on the U.S.S. Nimitz, the second largest aircraft carrier in the world, and he just returned from the Middle East. Our students wrote letters for Veterans Day under the direction of Mrs. Patricia Pinto which Airman McCaulley distributed to his fellow Sailors and Marines.
McCaulley returned to A.J. Schmidt to visit students in Mrs. Rosenhanh’s who wrote to him. The students loved the opportunity to spend time with Airman McCaulley and share what life is like in the military.

Christmas Holiday Party at the Evans Senior Center
Christmas Holiday Party held at the Senior Center was over the top eventful with entertainment from the Lakeshore High School Jazz Band and Hollie Daze Clown performance. The Evans senior center was packed with over 90 seniors for the Holiday festivities and had the honor of providing lunch for the Students of the High School Jazz Band. Eric Blodgett, conductor of the Lakeshore High School Jazz Band should receive praise for the performance and guidance he provides for these students. They displayed such professionalism and manners as they wowed the audience with their performance, along with the positive interaction that was shown during the luncheon with the seniors. This event was nothing short but great, due to the efforts of the senior staff and the entertainment from Hollie Daze the clown which, had our seniors up and interacting with fun and laughter and holiday enjoyment. This intergenerational event is just one of the many ways that the senior center is providing funding and resources for the continue enjoyment of our ever increasing senior members.
