PURSUANT TO SECTION IV OF THE CONSTITUTION OF THE SENECA NATION OF INDIANS, NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT THE BIENNIAL GENERAL ELECTION OF THE SENECA NATION OF INDIANS WILL BE HELD ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2016.
Pursuant to Section I of the Constitution of the Seneca Nation of Indians, “on or before the 15th day preceding the biennial election, all candidates shall file with the Clerk of the Nation their name and office, and no further candidate shall be allowed to file for office after the 15th day preceding the biennial election, except in case of death, substitution will be permitted on party tickets so filed.”
Therefore, candidates must file with the Clerk of the Nation at the Seneca Allegany Administration Building (SAAB), Allegany Territory, no later than 12:00 Midnight on Monday, October 17, 2016.
Voting shall take place at the Allegany and Cattaraugus Territories. Polls shall be open from 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, November 1, 2016.

Due to unfavorable weather on the weekend of September 17th, the 7th annual Brian Galfo Memorial Softball Tournament was canceled after a few hours of play. However, the always anticipated Memorial Benefit Party at Mickey Rats - Captain Kidd’s was a major success. The numerous raffles, donations and the Chinese auction baskets provided by all the local individuals and businesses helped ensure our goal, which is to provide scholarship opportunities for Lake Shore School Senior athletes.
From all of us involved with the annual event, we would like to provide a special thank you to Richie & Tommy Alberts, Mickey Rats - Captain Kidd’s & Certo Brothers Distributing for making this memorial benefit possible. REMSA Member Flexovit USA Hosts Congressman Collins for Reopening Tour, Policy Discussion
On October 5, 2016, U.S. Congressman Chris Collins (R-NY-27) joined representatives from Flexovit USA Inc. to tour their recently reopened Angola manufacturing facility and discuss pressing rail and manufacturing issues with various rail stakeholders and local officials. The Railway Engineering-Maintenance Suppliers Association (REMSA) coordinated the event.
Carla Marrazzo State Farm Agency Celebrates Anniversary
On Saturday, October 1, the Carla Marrazzo State Farm Agency celebrated their 1 Year Anniversary.
As a thank you to the Evans-Derby Community, a community event was held at their office lot at the corner of Erie Road at Putnam Drive.
The entire Team was present cooking hotdogs for those who joined in the celebration. Town of Evans Police collaborated with the office in making sure the little friends in the community were safe with a child safety seat check. Windshield Centers was present doing free VIN etchings on vehicles and the State Farm Neigh-Bear was present to greet the kids, hand out goodies from candy to cookies, to toys. Carla Marrazzo said, “we are grateful to the community for supporting us this year and we are look forward to continuing to provide excellent service to our current and future customers.

The tour was led by Tom Calabrese, CEO, Flexovit. The group toured Flexovit’s manufacturing facility, which was severely damaged by excessive snowfall in 2014. Flexovit has since been working around the clock to repair the facility and bring production back online. They are proud to, once again, provide high-skilled manufacturing employment opportunities in their reopened 100,000 sq. ft. facility.
“We are honored to be joined by Congressman Collins and our local officials to share in this proud and emotional moment for us,” said Calabrese. “Our business and employees were pushed to the brink, but we pushed through adversity and never gave up on our community. We have called the Angola-Evans area home for almost 40 years and could not be happier to share in our reopening with our community and elected officials.”
Founded in 1977, Flexovit USA specializes in the production of high producing abrasive products for portable power tools. Their grinding and rail cutting products serve the rail industry and were demonstrated as part of the tour. Flexovit manufactures exclusively in the United States and employs approximately 80.
Congressman Collins focused his remarks on encouraging economic development in Western New York, and ensuring a strong, efficient, and safe freight rail system to connect New York’s agriculture producers to the global market.
“A strong and efficient railroad is crucial for getting Western New York’s goods to market,” said Congressman Collins. “It was a honor to learn more about Flexovit and witness their commitment to our region firsthand. We look forward to working with our local businesses to continue to support policies that provide high-skill and high-wage jobs.”
The rail stakeholder group discussed the bipartisan and bicameral Building Rail Access for Customers and the Economy (BRACE) Act, which would make the Short Line Tax Credit permanent. This effort will allow the nation’s small, local freight railroads to increase their reinvestments to upgrade and expand the “first and last mile” of their transportation infrastructure. The bill has garnered over 180 bi-partisan cosponsors in the House, including Congressman Collins. The group also discussed recent regulation initiatives issued by the Surface Transportation Board (STB) on reciprocal switching and commodity regulation. These efforts risk creating major inefficiencies in the national freight network and artificially creating government-mandated price caps. These efforts would lead to reduced capital investment in freight rail which is critical to supporting high-paying rail supply jobs throughout the United States.
