Boys and Girls Club Members of the Month

The Boys and Girls Club of Lake Shore is proud to announce Nicole Vaught and Kayden Braughler as October’s Members of the Month. Club Staff select members that have positive character values, are respectful, responsible, caring, and good citizens. The MOTM should also participate in various Club programs such as sports, games, arts & crafts, power hour, project learn, cooking club, club council, library and nature clubs, etc.

Nicole is in her first year at the Club and has already impressed all the staff. She is very mild-mannered and well-behaved, and she’s extremely helpful without needing to be asked. She is a fourth grader at A.J. Schmidt Elementary, Mrs. Smaldino is her favorite teacher, and she really likes math class. At the Club, Nicole most enjoys playing different games in the gym.

In her spare time, Nicole loves hanging out and playing with her cousin.

Her favorite book is The Mystery at Disney World by Carole Marsh, and her favorite song is “Closer” by The Chainsmokers. When she grows up she would like to be a veterinarian, and Nicole’s top role model is Madisyn (Club staff member).

Kayden was selected due to his kind and caring nature, upbeat personality, and his innate instinct to share with others. He is nice to every single person at the Club! He is in second grade at J.T. Waugh Elementary where he likes physical education class and Mrs. O’Connor is his favorite teacher.

While at the Club, Kayden’s favorite thing to do is play with LEGOS and his other toys. In his free time, Kayden likes to play Minecraft games on his iPad. Kayden’s favorite thing to read is anything related to Minecraft and his favorite movie is Five Nights at Freddy’s. Kayden’s role models are his uncle, grandma, and mom (who he loves very much!). When he gets older he’d like to be a police officer so he can help people.

Lucas Wehrfritz is the Club’s Student of the Month. Lucas is a great allaround member in addition to being a very dedicated student. He is also exceptionally polite when asking for help on his homework assignments, and he is very diligent when it comes to school work. At the Club his top activity is playing foosball in the Lounge. His favorite thing to do at home is play his Play Station 3. Lucas attends A.J. Schmidt Elementary, he is in second grade, Mr. Ruffino is his favorite teacher, and he loves science class.

Lucas’s favorite song is “Sorry” by Justin Bieber, his favorite book is Magic Tree House by Mary Pope Osborne, his role model is Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, and when he grows up he would like to be a professional soccer player.

Our Junior Staff of the Month is Tyler Pasinski, a fifth grader at A.J. Schmidt Elementary. Junior Staff work the Snack Shack and assist Club staff with chores and running activities. Tyler has proven to be a very dedicated Jr. Staff and consistently picks up shifts when others are less willing.

Tyler does well serving customers and takes his role at the Snack Shack very seriously (and it’s his favorite thing to do at the Club!). Away from the Club, Tyler likes to ride his bike with friends. At school his favorite teacher is Mrs. Galenda and his top subject is ELA. His favorite author is Jeff Kinney (Diary of a Wimpy Kid), and his favorite song is “Heathens” by Twenty-One Pilots. Tyler’s role models are his mom and brother, and when he gets older Tyler would like to be a cartoonist.

For their accomplishments, these members also receive a couple special gifts - a Lake Shore BGC shirt and a $5 Tim Horton’s gift card! Ronald McDonald House Charities Supports Warm the Children

Grant Awarded to Help Keep Additional Youngsters Warm This Winter

The Rotary Club of Hamburg is pleased to announce that Warm the Children has been awarded a $5,000 grant from Ronald McDonald House Charities, enabling the organization to purchase warm, winter clothing at Sears McKinley for 50 additional youngsters this fall. “The grant monies used to support this award were raised from efforts of local McDonald’s restaurants in the Western New York community, and in part by national McDonald’s promotional programs, “ explained R.M.H.C administrator, Maureen Wopperer.

Ronald McDonald House Charities provides lodging, comfort and emotional support to families of children receiving medical treatment at area hospitals and reaches out to families in the community by supporting programs that benefit children. “The mission of Warm the Children, which is to provide new, warm winter clothing to youngsters in need, aligns closely with that of Ronald McDonald House charities,” emphasized Elizabeth Angelbeck, who coordinates WTC for Rotary.

Schools, churches and human service agencies continue to identify families in need from Hamburg, Angola, Blasdell, Brant, Derby, Eden, Lake View, Evans and North Collins. Parents shop at Sears in the McKinley Mall, accompanied by volunteers, who are responsible for payment of the clothing selected. To date, over 100 families have been served.

Warm the Children relies on the generosity of community members and local businesses for monetary donations. 100% of all taxdeductible contributions made to Warm the Children go toward the purchase of new clothing. Rotary is responsible for all administrative duties and assumes any costs associated with the program, with assistance from Lions Club and Evans Bank. This year, West Herr Automotive has teamed up with Warm the Children, by placing promotional materials in 10 of its Southtowns dealerships.

To help keep children warm this winter, tax-deductible donations may be made to Warm the Children Fund and mailed to Evans Bank, 5999 S. Park Ave., Hamburg, NY 14075 or donate online by going to www.hamburgrotaryclub.org/SitePage/warm-the-children.
