Lake Shore Athletes Earn Top Spots at ECIC Track and Field Meet Recently, three Lake Shore Track and Field Athletes earned top places at the ECIC track and field meet held at Pioneer High School. Senior Chris Beckley took second place in the pole vault by clearing 13'6” (just missing 14'), junior T.J. Kmitch placed first in the Pentathlon with 2,750 points, and sophomore Jessica Dunlap took second place in the girls' long jump with a jump of 17'7”. With this distance, Dunlap also broke the Lake Shore long jump record set in 1993. Lake Shore is incredibly proud of these athletes.

Students Honored at Citizen of the Month Ceremony The Evans-Brant Citizens for Responsible Choices (CRC) held a ceremony for the middle school students who were honored with the Citizen of the Month Award throughout the year on Thursday, June 9 at Lake Shore Middle School.

Twenty-seven students in sixth, seventh and eighth grade were identified by adults in the school, including administrators, teachers and staff, for exhibiting good pro social skills such as politeness, courtesy, kindness, responsibility, and helpfulness; and good deeds like public service and volunteerism. Though many of the honorees have excellent grades, academic performance was not a determining factor in this award. The Lake Shore Middle School Citizens of the Month also demonstrated honor in their behavior, which is a measure of a person's trustworthiness and character.

Guest Speaker Sheriff Tim Howard spoke to students about not settling for "good enough" and how proud he was to have these citizens in our community.

The CRC implemented the Citizens of the Month campaign to assist parents in rewarding students and encourage students to continue to lead their lives with honor.

CRC president, Dave Esis, also thanked the adults of the community who support these healthy choices, beginning with the children's families.

The CRC was founded in the spring of 2006 by local citizens and WNY United Against Drug & Alcohol Abuse, Inc. with the mission of promoting responsible choices regarding alcohol, other drugs and related behaviors throughout the community.

Summer is quickly approaching and I hope you are looking forward to the many highlights in the Village of Angola. â&#x20AC;˘ The â&#x20AC;&#x153;Friends of the Villageâ&#x20AC;? and the Evans Historical Society hosted a Historical marker Dedication at Forest Lawn Cemetery in BuďŹ&#x20AC;alo, placing a marker memorializing the unidentified victims of the 1867 Angola Train disaster. Afterwards, there was a dedication at the Story Board Historical Marker about the 1867 disaster that is placed on Commercial Street across from the Village Hall. Stop and check out this marker which was designed via our own Miss Charity Vogelâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s â&#x20AC;&#x153;Angola Horrorâ&#x20AC;? story-book. â&#x20AC;˘ I am looking forward to moving in a positive direction to fill the vacant properties in the Village of Angola, I want to see Angola continue to grow and prosper and it cannot happen until these properties see life again. This will result in more foot traďŹ&#x192;c on Main Street and will increase business support.

A local contractor has been hired to renovate the business zoned building and the Village hopes to find an interested party to purchase the property located in the center of our business district. If you have any interest contact the Village Hall and they can send you in the right direction. â&#x20AC;˘ With the summer season approaching I encourage all of you to take the time to stop and shop our local Businesses. Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;m sure you will be surprised at what you find when you compare prices and or services for your home repairs or special event needs. â&#x20AC;˘ The Village Board is moving forward with the relocation of the 1882 Nickel Plate Depot. Legislative initiative monies have been on hold for this project. â&#x20AC;˘ Most of you must have seen the new â&#x20AC;&#x153;Angola Village Commonsâ&#x20AC;? (The old Evans bank building on the corner of Lake and N Main) It is an absolute plus in our area, consisting of Doctorsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; oďŹ&#x192;ces and more to come. It has undergone a well-planned restoration and it is simply beautiful. â&#x20AC;˘ Another great renovation project that has been moving forward is the old Ford Lanes Building at 77 N Main. New owners Matthew and Jennifer Podoba are excited to bring a new life to our area. Watch as the location unfolds into the Angola Village Lofts, which will consist of a hotel and â&#x20AC;&#x153;Veronicaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;sâ&#x20AC;? CafĂŠ. â&#x20AC;˘ The Erie County Facade Program has been re-activated in the Village, for information contact the Village Hall. â&#x20AC;˘ The Grove Street Waterline project funded partly through CDBG Funds has been completed. â&#x20AC;˘ Make sure you walk this beautiful Village and take in the scenery of the hanging flower baskets and the flower boxes all a part of the beautifying the village project through the â&#x20AC;&#x153;Friends of the Villageâ&#x20AC;? organization. Donations graciously accepted. â&#x20AC;˘ The Summer Concert series starts at Centennial Park on Center Street every Wednesday June 15 through August 31st 7-9PM. The rain location is at the Angola Theatre. â&#x20AC;˘ The annual Strawberry Social was held at the Congregational UCC across from Crosbyâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s on June 16 and 17th. â&#x20AC;˘ The Village Board is seeking funding through the NYS Clean/Drinking Water Grants program to replace old waterlines. â&#x20AC;˘ Check out new Businessâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s in the Village such as Spek-tac-ular Creations Jewelry Store next to the Angola Theatre, Garage Fitness on N Main at Orchard, at the â&#x20AC;&#x153;Yâ&#x20AC;?, the Angola One Stop Smoke Shop on Commercial Street as well as Stella Pierogiâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s on S Main at the Old Pizza House. â&#x20AC;˘ Events, emergencies and more can be found on the Village Website at www.villageofangola.org. â&#x20AC;˘ Reminder to make sure you stop at crosswalks for pedestrians crossings, itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s the law. â&#x20AC;˘ Respect others by cleaning up after your pet on public sidewalks. â&#x20AC;˘ In closing I encourage all to share in keeping our community safe by notifying the Evans Police Department at 549-3600 if you see anything unusual. Assemblyman DiPietro Visits Lake Shore Schools

Assemblyman David DiPietro recently visited the Lake Shore Central School District through the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT PAC) incentive, "Bring Your Legislator To Work Day." The Assemblyman met with district personnel and teachers, toured the Senior High School, Middle School, and culminated his visit at A. J. Schmidt Elementary. While at A.J. Schmidt, DiPietro visited the fourth-grade students because they wrote him letters during the NYS Budget season.

Additionally, Middle School technology students built the DiPietro a beach chair that he can use on Lake Shore's beautiful beaches. Promoting the connection between legislative work in Albany with our schools is important to our community. The visit was a great experience and the District thanks Assemblyman DiPietro for his time and interest in Lake Shore.

No additional capital improvements are proposed to be constructed and no additional capital costs are to be incurred by or on behalf of the Erie County Sewer District No. 2 in connection with such extension, but future annual charges will be apportioned in accordance with applicable flat charges and charges based on units, assessed value and footage, specified in the District's benefit assessment formula and rates, as such formulas currently exist and as amended from time to time.

Local Home Depot Comes Through for A.J. Schmidt Elementary School A.J. Schmidt Elementary School recently partnered with the Food Bank of WNY’s Backpack Program. The school secured a pantry cabinet that was being stored in-district and started their work, storing food, bagging meals, and distributing items to students. As the program grew, the school received more food. The increase in donations resulted in the shelves of the cabinet collapsing, and the school was left without a proper way to store the food.

Principal Jill Clark and the staff began brainstorming about what they could use to store food for the Backpack Program; certain criteria and requirements need to be maintained for the program to run. Mr. Sean Kunkel, physical education teacher, reached out to Keith Hansen, operations manager for the Cheektowaga Home Depot.

The two walked through the store, and Keith came up with a solution to the problem. Within two days, he had sent a photo of a cabinet he built in the store. Home Depot donated the cabinet and is already in use at A.J. Schmidt.

Without the help of Keith Hansen and the Home Depot, A.J. Schmidt’s Backpack program would have had to find or build their own cabinet for their food distribution and storage. Everyone at A.J. Schmidt would like to thank Keith and Home Depot for this generous donation.

· To be enrolled in the September 2016 Kindergarten class, a child living in the Lake Shore Central School District must be five years of age on or before December 1, 2016 pursuant to §7120 of the Lake Shore CSD Policy Manual.

· Proof of age is required at the time of registration. A birth certificate, a baptismal record, or a passport will serve as adequate proof of age. Also, an official record of immunizations and proof of district residency is required for registration. · All immunizations must be acquired by the start of school in September. Students without required immunizations will not be permitted to start school. · Kindergarten Visitation - Parents and entering students will be invited to visit classrooms, take a short bus ride, and meet teachers before the start of school.
