Applications for Absentee Ballots and Applications for Early Mail Ballots will be available in the District Clerk’s Office beginning Tuesday, April 21, 2026 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. The District Clerk’s Office is located in the Lake Shore High School, 959 Beach Road, Angola, NY. Voters must enter through the main entrance of the High School.

A night to “Meet the Candidates” for the Lake Shore Central School District Board of Education will be held on Tuesday, May 5th at 6:30 p.m. in the High School Media Center, 959 Beach Road, Angola. There are three candidates running for two open seats on the Board of Education. Board Candidates are: Michael Franey, Martha Mangan, and Gary Vassallo. The program will be a casual meet and greet with the candidates.
Annual School Budget Meeting (Public Hearing)
The Annual School Budget Meeting will also be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at approximately 7 p.m., following the Meet the Candidates Program in the High School Media Center. The District encourages District Voters to attend both events so they can be well informed when voting on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

Main Street, Angola, NY Looking Back
The Angola Variety Store
For over 5 decades, the Angola Variety Store operated on Main Street in Angola. Customers of all ages came from the Evans area to visit and shop. Young boys would come to buy wooden sticks to make tissue paper airplanes. Many girls came to purchase paper dolls. Women bought dress patterns, thread and kitchen items. Hundreds of items were available including greeting cards, post cards, puzzles, toys, lunch boxes, school supplies and even Schwin bikes. Candy! There was nothing better than selecting candy from the huge glass display case. Currently, that same case holds exhibits in the historical society museum.
Many years ago, in a Buffalo Evening News article [May 9, 1970], Bertha Crowell, store owner, said “I’ve seen the children in this town grow up. They came in with their mothers. Then they came in with their dimes for candy after school. Then they’re off to college, coming in at Christmas and in the summer.”
While cleaning out the store, many items from World War II were discovered in the back room. Some of these items are on display at the museum.
Bertha operated the store until 1994. She didn’t drive so Lee Weber taxi always drove her to her Derby home until October 29, 1994.
