Lloyd C. Nagel of Angola, NY, passed away Tuesday January 17, 2017, in South Buffalo Mercy Hospital, he was 83. Beloved husband of Donna Nagel; loving father of Bradley (Mary Terra) Nagel, Wendy Sutton and Ronald (Mary Ann) Straub.

Cherished papa of Olivia Straub; step grandfather of Jennine Terra Rybicki.

Lloyd retired after 39 years of working for the Rail Roads. He started his career in 1955 with South Buffalo RR as a Demurrage Clerk, then was a lieutenant in the police Dept. for Lehigh RR, he finished his career as a Claim Agent in Risk Management Dept. for Conrail in 1994. He attended Bryant and Stratton where he earned his NYS General Insurance License and his NYS Real Estate License. He was also a former Co-Owner and Publisher of the Eden-North Collins Pennysaver. Lloyd was an Avid Golf player and was a member at both TriCounty and Gowanda Golf Clubs.

Friends gathered Thursday from at the Addison Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services were held Friday in the First Church of Evans, Derby, NY. Flowers gratefully declined, memorials may be made to the First Church of Evans. ___________

Jeremy Ackley Jeremy Ackley is the son of Steven and Alicia Ackley of Angola. He is a sixth-grade student at Lake Shore Middle School and has been selected as a CRC Citizen of the month for September 2016. Jeremy’s favorite subject is Physical Education. After school, he enjoys playing hockey and his future goal is to be a professional hockey player in the NHL. Jeremy’s favorite thing in the world is video games. The character trait that Jeremy believes is the most important for continued success is effort.

Caitlin Jurain Caitlin Jurain is the daughter of Cindy and Jason Jurain of Angola. She is a sixth-grade student at Lake Shore Middle School and has been selected as a CRC Citizen of the month for October 2016. In school, Caitlin’s favorite subject is Social Studies. She is active in 4-H and soccer. Her career goal is to open a daycare or pre-school. Her most favorite things in the world are her dog and her dolls. The character traits she feels are most important for continued success are effort and creativity.

Nina Wholf Nina Wholf is the daughter of Jean Cosenza and Brian Wholf of Derby. She is a seventhgrade student at Lake Shore Middle School and has been selected as a CRC Citizen of the Month for September 2016. In school, Nina’s favorite subject is math. After school, Nina is active in 3-D youth group and cheerleading. She is considering a career in education as a math or science teacher. Nina’s favorite thing in the world is her family. She is active in Student government, art club, drama club, select chorus, and the musical. Her career goal is to be an orthodontist, and hopes to have a family of her own. She says she strives “to be hardworking and kind as taught by my family and teachers.” Her favorite thing in the world is watching hockey games with her dad. Alfred University Names Angola Resident to Dean’s List

Southtowns Catholic School Christmas in January

On January 4th, SCS held their annual Christmas Concert at the school. It was originally going to be held in December but Mother Nature changed the date. Led by Mr. Daniel Darnley, every child from Preschool to Grade 8, sang Christmas songs. Mr. Darnley worked with 4th through 8th grade classes to arrange their own interpretation of classic Christmas Carols. Students used their ears to create melodies and advanced harmonies throughout the course of the project and then performed them at the concert. At the end of the concert, Mrs. Jennifer Hill's Grade 2 class ended the evening with a small Christmas Pageant that closed with the gymnasium singing Silent Night. Clark J. Brueckl, a resident of Angola, NY, was named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2016 semester at Alfred University (AU). He is a senior in the Inamori School of Engineering. Students must earn at least a 3.5 grade point average to qualify for Dean’s List.

Brueckl is a Renewable Energy Engineering major at AU. Alfred University has been named a “Best Buy” in the “Fiske Guide to Colleges Best Buys of 2016” where the University has been included consistently for more than 16 years. Alfred University is also ranked fourth by the 2015 U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges rankings and was selected as a Great Regional School at a Great Price in the north. Alfred University also scores on par with Princeton and better than Yale and Dartmouth according to the Brookings Institution’s “value added” assessment of some 4,000 schools nationwide.

Wall of Fame Nominations Sought In 1992 the Lake Shore Central School District developed the Wall of Fame program for recognizing the outstanding achievements of district alumni.

Every other year the district holds an induction ceremony in the Spring honoring new inductees. We have begun the process of selecting a new class for induction.

These individuals are people who, after graduation, have greatly contributed to society through their hard work, talents and leadership. Nominees must be a graduate of at least 15 years and may not currently be an employee of the Lake Shore Central School District. If you know of any alumni who should be considered for this honor, we ask that you provide us with a completed application by February 24, 2017.

Each nominee will be reviewed by the district committee for possible induction into the “Wall of Fame”. Individuals who are selected will be afforded a place on the “wall” with a picture and biographical information. Also, it will be expected that the honoree addresses our high school students and attend a reception being held in their honor.

This year’s Wall of Fame Induction Ceremony & Reception is scheduled for May 31, 2017. More information will follow at a later date.
