Richard C. “Dick” Bray, 91, formerly of Eden, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. He had been residing at Dimensions Living in Appleton, WI. Dick was born on January 9, 1935, to the late Joseph E. and Martha A. Bray (née Blake). He graduated from Lake Shore Central High School in 1953 and served in the Naval Reserves. On January 9, 1954, he married his high school sweetheart, Leah (née Renkert), of Highland, NY. Dick’s career with New York State Electric and Gas Corp. (NYSEG) spanned more than 30 years. He began as a meter reader, advanced to equipment operator, and eventually retired as a field planner. Dick was an active member of the Masonic Lodge. He and Leah were also active in the Order of the Eastern Star, where he served as Worthy Patron and as DDGL of the Second Erie District of New York State. He was also a longtime member of Gowanda Moose Lodge 1382. Dick lived a full and active life. He belonged to the “Eden Hobos” camping club and the “Eden Trailblazers” snowmobile club and enjoyed cross-country skiing, golfing, and motorcycle touring. Perhaps his favorite pastime was snowbirding with Leah and her family in Yuma, AZ. They enjoyed camping in the desert Southwest during the winter and making new friends who shared their interests. Dick is survived by his daughter, Leah Pappas, of Punta Gorda, FL, and his son, Robert, of Porterfield, WI. He was blessed with eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Richard; his wife, Leah; and his grandson, Richard Lee. Family and friends will gather at his home in Eden in the summer of 2027 to celebrate his life. The family extends a special thank-you to the caregivers at Dimensions Living in Appleton for the compassionate and loving care they provided to Dick and the kindness they showed his family during his time there. In his memory, please enjoy a dry gin martini with olives, Dick’s favorite happy hour drink, and share your olives with a loved one, as “Grandpa” would.
