At The Forum and venues across Norwich
T
he 2018 Norwich Science Festival brochure is now out, with over 130 events covering nature and the environment, technology, engineering, medicine and health, engineering, astronomy and space, physics, chemistry, and the cutting-edge work by scientists at Norwich Research Park. Plus new this year is a day dedicated to celebrating our oceans, seas and rivers – from aquatic wildlife to our responsibility to protect the marine environment. The eclectic programme urges people to discover ‘our future world’, and explore how developments in science and technology will shape our future, and what we can do to help make it sustainable. The brochure was launched at The Forum, Norwich, with the help of a striking sculpture of a moorhen made out of recycled materials, courtesy of headline sponsor Anglian Water. The artwork is made from parts of abandoned shopping trolleys, washing machines and bicycles, and sits on a nest of plastics collected from the region’s rivers and beaches. Highlights of this year’s Festival include Chris 4
Packham; Maddie Moate; Prof Alice Roberts; explorer Benedict Allen; Angela Saini and a women in science panel; and the Space Descent with Tim Peake VR Experience Tour Bus – where you can experience in virtual reality the incredible descent from the International Space Station back to Earth, voiced by astronaut Tim Peake.
Learning programme
There’s also science-inspired exhibitions, concerts and theatre shows, plus every day during the Festival, there’s free familyfriendly activities, hands-on fun and talks at The Forum, for all ages.
Enjoy nine days of inspirational exhibitions, sensational shows, celebrity talks, and hands-on science activities for all ages and all levels of knowledge.
Natalie Bailey, Festival producer, said: “We’re really excited about this year’s programme. It’s hugely diverse, from talks on penguins and robots to the health benefits of dark chocolate, and hands-on activities from robot coding and fingerprints through to tree listening! Whether you’re just dipping your toe into the far-reaching world of science, or want to further your knowledge, there’s something for everyone.” Visit https://norwichsciencefestival.co.uk to see all events and book tickets, or pick up a brochure from The Forum, Norwich TIC or venues across Norfolk.

ussy & Leigh have been providing a cleaning service in Norfolk since 2003. This family business has recently been enhanced by the addition of Karen, Russy’s sister. Family values were always uppermost in Leigh & Russy’s thinking and their mantra was,
and still is, that they would never introduce a self-employed cleaner to a householder if they themselves would not be happy to have that cleaner in their own home. That thought has influenced the way that they interact with the cleaners and the householders they provide a cleaning service for. So much so that they go to great lengths to ensure that the householder will be happy with the cleaner and that the cleaner will be happy with the client. This is important, they tell us, because if the pairing is not right it will not work out.
Don’t spend all weekend to get a pristine, clean home...

They achieve this by ensuring that everything the householder expects to be done prior to them hearing from a cleaner, is actually done. Russy, Leigh & Karen undertake the due diligence expected by checking references, visiting the cleaners in their own home, inviting them for interview into Russy & Leigh’s home and ensuring the cleaners are police checked. Finally, the householder has the opportunity to meet the cleaner before they begin working. The cleaners are polite and experienced, will often be keyholders and insurance is in place to cover the work that they do. Householders get an affordable, professional, reliable and vetted cleaner as a result, and everybody’s happy.

Autumn Piccalilli In Praise of Squash continued You may remember that my allotment neighbour is the undisputed butternut squash king of our village. I am currently the official holder of the title but he is the real McCoy, butternut squash royalty, so to speak.

the salt, cover with cling film and leave somewhere cool (not the fridge) for the night. • Rinse the vegetables well to remove all the salty water. In a large saucepan add all the rinsed vegetables along with all the pickle mix ingredients. • Bring to the boil and then simmer for 10 minutes (the vegetables should still have a bite to them). • Meanwhile whisk together the thickening mix with enough water to make a pouring consistency. • Stir the thickening mix in to the hot piccalilli pot stirring all the time on a low heat until thickened. • Simmer for a further 3 minutes to allow the corn flour and the mustard to cook out and the flavour to develop, stirring occasionally. • Spoon in to sterilized jars. You can eat this pickle straight away or it will keep in a cool cupboard for up to 3 months. Once opened refrigerate. My claim to the throne stems from a few years ago, when I organised competitions to find the best grower of said delectable vegetable. I made the rules and did the judging, which was scrupulously fair, of course and it was open to anyone living here. Every year the number of participants increased and in the year of my triumph ten people took part. They were all invited to the annual allotment fest, the equivalent of a harvest festival but with more alcohol, which in those days was an event to be seen at. In about the third year of the competition, at the due date around the beginning of September, to everyone’s surprise, I unquestionably had a better butternut squash patch than anyone else. It didn’t last long however, and shortly after the competition had been judged and the trophy, a mug with a vegetable motif, had been awarded, at least two other gardeners’ plants took off and produced far more and better fruit than the ones on my plot. The competition folded after that. I’ve just been to my patch to confirm the dire situation this year. I have hundreds of male flowers and not a single female one. My neighbour is currently averaging 4.6 squashes per plant. BIRGIT GRIEM

Here at Bicycle Links we are encouraging everyone who took up cycling during the summer to keep going into the autumn. When the days get shorter and the weather less inviting, there is no reason to hop back into a car. First up, riding a bike keeps you warm. Not hot and sweaty, unless you are trying to break a world record, but warm and glowing. The only parts that need special protection are the hands and neck, so make sure that you have a thin pair of gloves and a scarf or buff. More off-putting than the cold is the rain, but again you don’t need lots of expensive kit, just one or two items. Your helmet will keep your head pretty dry (though I wish someone would invent windscreen wipers for my specs). You will definitely need a showerproof jacket, but any ‘outdoor shop’-type jacket will do the job well enough. Over-trousers can be useful if it’s raining heavily when you set off from home. If you really want to ‘ride like the Dutch’ you might get a waterproof poncho or cape that covers you head-toknee, though we don’t recommend hoods and umbrellas as they can be restrictive. So don’t let the seasons put you off. As they (might) say on Strictly Come Cycling: “k-e-e-e-p pedalling”!

NORWICH COMMUNITY CHOIR END 10TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR ON A HIGH
Local History Matters A RATHER INTERESTING MEMORIAL IN A NORWICH CHURCH – WITH A VERY RARE ITEM DEPICTED IN ITS DESIGN.
F
rom a historian’s point of view one of the great joys of Norwich has to be the vast hidden treasures contained in its mediaeval churches. We have recently had the 2018 Heritage Open Days events and many of the churches were open for inspection, including a few not generally available for scrutiny. I hope you visited some. If this festival has whetted your appetite for discovering a gem hidden away in one of our churches you might like to take a walk to the church of St. George Tombland sometime. This building is often open in addition to Sundays and its interior is quite a quiet oasis in a fairly bustling location. This church dates from about the 13th century with later additions, as was often the case. The fine tower dates from ca. 1450 but there was certainly an earlier one for the story goes that from its parapets rioting civilians attacked the cathedral with flaming arrows in 1272 – and did much serious damage to that building. Space excludes a fuller explanation of this horrendous event. Time to enter the church and seek out the memorial under review. You will see that there are many very fine adornments in the building and the one I would like to bring to your attention is not immediately that easy to locate. To find it you must walk past the organ and find it on an adjacent wall. It is a memorial to Thomas Anguish who
PLEASE QUOTE THIS MAGAZINE WHEN YOU CONTACT OUR ADVERTISERS
was born in 1536 and died in 1617. It is a wall-mounted, boldly executed, alabaster effigy of Thomas and his family at the time of his passing. With his wife Elizabeth he had nine sons and three daughters, and all these children are depicted in a kneeling stance – the boys behind their father and the girls likewise behind their mother. Those children that predeceased their father are shown in macabre pose holding skulls. However, the rare feature shown in this amazing workmanship by Nicholas Stone shows us the babies that died in infancy. See the picture above that focuses on the little male babies shown tightly wrapped in cloths with their dear little heads resting on skulls. This type of portrayal defines these youngsters as ‘Chrysom Children’. When they were christened they were swaddled in a cloth sheet that usually belonged to the church. In due course the cloth would be returned to the church for future use. However, if the child should die before its mother attended for a later ‘purification blessing’ in the church, it would be buried wearing the christening cloths – thereby becoming a ‘Chrysom Child’. Depictions in this manner are rare. Only a few survive in Norfolk – a brass at Blickling and a benchend carving in Upper Sheringham church come to mind. Look out for them on your travels. DAVID A. BERWICK
Norwich Community Choir are busy rehearsing for their tenth anniversary concert. This charity event will be held at Norwich Anglican Cathedral and songs will include the choir’s exclusive version of Allegri’s Miserere. This is a challenging piece for a community choir, where there are no auditions and many members can’t read music. The concert programme, performed entirely from memory, will also include many heartwarming songs and some festive anthems. Proceeds from the event will go to Nelson’s Journey, a Norfolk charity who support bereaved children and young people. Sarah Hyde, Community Funding Officer for Nelson’s Journey, told us: “We’re thrilled that Norwich Community Choir have chosen to support us in their 10th anniversary year. Thank you to everyone involved.” The cathedral concert takes place on Saturday 24th November 2018 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £10.00 and can be purchased by calling Ivan on 07423 118876 or from www.ticketsource.co.uk/ norwich-community-choir.

A recent study by Prudential found that despite the higher profile of pensions over the past few years, one in eight people are still reaching retirement age without pension savings. This will leave far too many people relying on the State Pension to fund their retirement – currently up to just £164.35 per week. This is nearly £30 per week short of the benchmark of £192.27 suggested by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation as the amount needed to support an “acceptable standard of living” in retirement.
your retirement. Anyone in employment has a golden opportunity to do so right from the start of their career through compulsory workplace pension schemes. These are a hugely attractive way to start saving for the future as your own contributions will be topped up both by contributions from your employer and by tax relief that gives you an additional £2 for every £8 you contribute to your scheme if you are a basic rate taxpayer – and more if you pay higher or additional rate tax.
Worryingly, the study also reported that women are twice as likely as men to retire without retirement savings.
However, if you are already some way into your working life, it’s also never too late to start paying into a pension scheme. There are tax advantages to putting your money into pensions – the tax relief mentioned above and tax efficient returns on any growth within your pension fund.
The important message here is that it is never too early to start saving for

Monty Shaft’s Did You Know … … that I have a terrible memory for jokes.
BADAC THEATRE THE JOURNEY In The Journey, the new play from London based extreme theatre company Badac, a refugee mother and her child struggle to hold darkness and despair at bay. This fearless, intense and immersive theatre project focuses on the experiences of refugees from across the globe. It comes to Norwich Arts Centre as part of a British tour on 7 November. To research the play writer/director Steve Lambert visited Lebanon and camps on the Syrian border to learn of the desperate measures people can be forced to endure as they strive to survive. In the UK he worked with refugee communities and support organisations to develop a drama that is true to their experiences of fleeing conflict and, sometime, certain death. With a cast of that includes refugees, some facing an uncertain future in the UK, The Journey tells of the emotional, psychological and physical effects experienced by those forced to flee their homes. Since the company’s launch in 1999, Badac’s work has always focused on human rights issues. Their unflinching work is brave, dark, all-consuming and stunning in every meaning of the word. www.norwichartscentre.co.uk www.badactheatre.com

I
work in an office and, as I’m sure is the case with most offices, occasionally we take a break from the work and have some, sometimes quite bizarre, conversations about just about anything. One of the most common starter questions is ‘What is your favourite …?’ I always have a real problem with this. I can’t decide whether I’m just really indecisive (ha ha!), or whether I have very broad tastes, or whether I’m just not discerning enough, but I have great difficulty in coming up with just one thing, or even a top three, or five, or ten. Take music. There are a couple of lesser known albums that I always say would be in my top ten, or twenty, favourites of all time – ‘Grand Prix’ by Teenage Fanclub and ‘HMS Fable’ by Shack – so around last Christmas I thought that, to find out once and for all, I would compile the top fifty of my all-time favourite albums and count them down on my Facebook page. I drew up a shortlist for my fifty that had two hundred and thirty albums on it! Eventually I got it down to one hundred, but that was really difficult, and then getting them into order was a nightmare – if I did it again now, it would probably change! (Seventeen and twelve respectively, for anyone interested.) A very common question is about films and it always amazes me that people can straight away come up with an answer. Without wishing to make a crass generalisation, it does seem, among my
PLEASE QUOTE THIS MAGAZINE WHEN YOU CONTACT OUR ADVERTISERS
colleagues anyway, that the men will usually say something like ‘The Godfather’ or ‘Goodfellas’ and the women something Disney/Christmassy. But I couldn’t give you an answer. I could probably tell you my top five comedy films, top five French films, top five Pedro Almodovar films, top five horror films, but an actual favourite film? How do you even start? How do you compare ‘Annie Hall’ and ‘The Silence of the Lambs’? Just ridiculous! Anyhow, the reason for all this is that a few weeks ago I was asked for my favourite joke. I gave my usual answer – the same answer I give when asked to tell a joke that I can never remember jokes. Having given it some thought, however, I have decided that I do have a favourite joke. It is Q. How do you get four giraffes into a mini? A. You can’t, it’s full of elephants. I get the sense that you’re not feeling it, so an explanation is probably necessary. When she was young, eight or nine I think, my sister received a joke book as a birthday or Christmas present. She started to read it out to us, but being her usual unconventional self, started from the back of the book, and we were all rather confused by this one. Until a couple of pages later she read out Q. How do you get four elephants into a mini? A. Two in the front and two in the back, which, of course, explained the giraffe joke, rather disappointingly. I prefer to think of it as a stand alone, surreal, Reeves and Mortimer, Mighty Boosh, sort of joke. And yes, it’s my favourite!

Art Fair East 2018
E
ast of England’s biggest art event returns, St Andrews Hall, 30 November 2 December
Art Fair East is the eastern region’s largest, most popular and liveliest contemporary art event. It brings together artists, galleries and dealers with those interested in their discovering their work. Founded and curated by experienced arts professionals Will Teather and Brian Korteling, Art Fair East showcases quality galleries, dealers and artists and has become one of the country’s leading fairs outside London. As successful artists themselves, the organisers are both passionate about getting more people interested in original contemporary art and helping artists to make a living from their work. Brian Korteling said ‘We aim to deliver the best the art-world has to offer also introduce Eastern artists to a wider audience – we get a lot of artists from all over eastern England, but we also get exhibitors from across the UK and overseas, from as far afield as France, China and Lebanon.’ Will Teather added ‘Because we select the 24
exhibitors we can make sure there is a good variety of work that will appeal to different people and give an assurance of quality’ Last year’s exhibitors included the Underdog Art Gallery from London Bridge, who deal in artworks by famous names including Damien Hirst and Banksy. Sammy Forway, Director of Underdog said ‘Art Fair East is a wonderful exhibition opportunity. It is a great way for us to create interest in our gallery and artists outside London. We met a lot of talented artists at the fair and have worked with a couple of them since. Showing at the Fair is a great way to break into the world of art fairs for galleries or individual artists, we’ll certainly be back this year. That it is run by artists for artists is a big bonus!’ Jo Mullins of Norfolk’s Heart of Glass gallery from Norwich based Gallery said ‘Art Fair East keeps getting better, with a wide selection of art to suit all tastes and budgets and a very friendly, welcoming atmosphere.’ Art Fair East 30 November - 2 December St Andrews Hall, St Andrews Plain Norwich NR3 1AU www.artfaireast.com

INNER SPACE Natural Health and Wellbeing Centre ‘Inner space is an oasis of calm in the heart of Norwich city’ These are the words that described Inner Space when it opened in 2002 and it is just as peaceful today. The centre is situated in Maude Gray Court which is on St. Benedict’s Street and once inside visitors forget they are in the city centre, commenting on the peaceful atmosphere. There are certainly no external distractions to disturb the daily classes in the main studio or the many therapy sessions in the small studio. All our teachers and therapists are fully qualified and insured. They are also passionate and enthusiastic about what they offer, so whatever you are looking for you are certainly in safe hands. Visit our website to find a yoga, pilates, taichi or qigong class for the autumn term or have look at the list of therapies on offer at Inner Space. CAMRA’s Final February Festival in Norwich
A DIFFERENT WAY OF PAINTING
C
AMRA invites festival lovers to enjoy ales-of-every-season at Norwich’s final Great British Beer Festival Winter from 19 February 2019! Not to be confused with a festival for winter beers alone, this has beers of every style and shade, served in cask, KeyKeg and bottle from dark to ruby brown and golden ales, plus world beers and real ciders. After this final one in Norwich, the national event moves to a different CAMRA location. The festival runs from 19 - 23 February 2019 at St Andrew’s and Blackfriars’ stunning medieval friary halls, opening with a preview evening for CAMRA members only. Martin Ward, organiser, commented “2019 is the final chance to catch the February festival in the historic City of Norwich.’

An exhibition at Anteros Arts Foundation, Norwich the many characteristic real ale pubs, all in easy walking.’ The event has been likened to CAMRA’s national summer festival in London Olympia as ‘like it, but cosier!’. There is also hot food and snacks served all day and live music most evenings. As always at the event, the Champion Winter Beer of Britain competition will be judged. Local and national brewers will compete in each category and the winners and overall winner will be announced at the opening evening. Competition ales, including winners, can be sampled by visitors in Blackfriars Hall. The chosen Charity is the Benjamin Foundation and visitors are invited to donate cash and unspent tokens using the glasses stand box and collection pots. Entrance is cash-only on the door, is free to CAMRA members and is open from midday all day Wednesday to Saturday. Pre-event ticket packages, including beer tokens and souvenir glasses, can be secured. For ticket packages or more information on the Festival and February Fringe visit winter.gbbfw.org.
2-13 October 2018 Inspired by David Hockney’s pioneering iPad paintings at his landmark 2012 Royal Academy show, former EDP journalist Ken Hurst armed himself with a rubber-tipped stylus and an electronic paint pot to revisit the skills he learned as a graphic design student at the London College of Printing in the 1960s. Since then, he has developed a unique style, reinventing along the way his own version of post-impressionist pointillism for the 21st century. ‘Painting’ from on site photographic references, Ken has created land, town, place and a new series of skyscapes. Most are made from countless numbers of small, distinct shapes, some hardly more than dots, of complimentary colours that are determined by the light that falls on them and applied in patterns to form an image. Norwich’s River Wensum, Italy’s littleknown Marche region, the French Alps and the Languedoc provide most of the subject matter for this exhibition of mainly new work. www.kenhurstartworks.com

Elisabeth Frink: Humans and Other Animals
T
his autumn, the Sainsbury Centre will present a major new exhibition of work by Elisabeth Frink (1930-1993). Elisabeth Frink: Humans and Other Animals, featuring over 130 works by the artist, will be the largest showing of Frink’s work in 25 years. The exhibition will provide new perspectives and examine her radical and bohemian
beginnings in 1950s London, reappraising one of the most important British sculptors of the twentieth century. Frink’s work will be placed alongside that of other modern masters, most notably Pablo Picasso, Alberto Giacometti, Auguste Rodin, Francis Bacon, Germaine Richier and Louise Bourgeois. In addition, work by two exciting contemporary artists, Douglas Gordon and Rebecca Warren, will also provide a wider context to explore themes important to Frink. The relationship between humans and animals was central for Frink and one she returned to throughout her life. Whilst offering exciting contemporary possibilities both metaphorically and directly, she was conscious of the fact that animals appear in art from the very earliest times and that their relationship with humans and animals is interdependent.

TWO LITTLE DUCKS AT ARTS CENTRE In June 2016, poet Matt Abbott’s hometown of Wakefield voted 66% Leave. Either side of referendum day, he was volunteering at a Calais Jungle refugee camp just 22 miles from Dover. Now this rising star of the spoken word scene is taking his first full-length stage show inspired by these events on a UK tour. The Two Little Ducks tour visits Norwich Arts Centre on 10 October as part of a 22 date national tour. Two Little Ducks is a fiercely relevant exploration of identity, prejudice and class, fusing socio-political commentary and contemporary kitchen sink realism. As his verse shifts from coal mine to council estate to Calais jungle, he explores the divisions and discord of modern Britain, unafraid to voice opposing viewpoints. Abbott makes full use of his razor-sharp wit to present this personal and political show. This is poetry for the underdog from one of our leading new poets, presented in an engaging, accessible style that acts as an invitation and welcome mat for those new to poetry. www.norwichartscentre.co.uk 32
o the nation holds it breath as everyone’s favourite millionaires daughter’s little sister gets married, so presumably whilst Pippa and her beau are living it up on a sun drenched beach somewhere Royal Baby sitting duties will be handed over to the not so busy Prince “it’s all Greek to me” Philip. So Royal Babes George and Charlotte will be in for a couple of weeks of cold showers, route marches and learning to swear and insult people. All part of the “How to be Regal Handbook”. I expect the sisters will now be locked in a bitter battle to produce more offspring! Mr Donald “keep your hair on “ Trump continues to walk a tightrope and is clearly considering Armageddon as a way of distracting everyone from his White House Woes, North “we’ll launch another one it might work this time” Korea still looking the most likely aid to this foreign policy. We still have Kelly “what’s the Alternative” Anne and her microwave to keep us up to date with this and other policy issues! Football season over leaving our Canaries still languishing in the Championship and it remains to be seen what the Huddersfield Hitman will come up with next, my boots are ready should I get the call to drop into a wandering midfield role hopefully alongside the potential Norwich New Boys, Jack Hawkins, Richard Todd and John Gregson. Should our gritty trio arrive at Carrow Road it is hoped that they will be issued with the Norwich City Council’s leaflet entitled “How To Move Around the City When all the Roads are Closed”. Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, please keep your head firmly on your shoulders and your arms and legs inside the ride at all times! That’s the advice from the Ministry of Science Live which is set to explode on to the Norwich Theatre Royal stage on October 10. This new production of the out-of-theordinary science show, which wowed Norfolk audiences in 2015, takes an anarchic approach to science communication whilst looking at the inventors and engineers who have shaped and inspired the modern world that we live in. www.theatreroyalnorwich.co.uk

F
olk East is getting bigger, and better, and is becoming the friendliest of all Folk Festivals. There were many highlights but here are ten of mine. The Young Un’s mixed thought provoking songs with slapstick humour and audience participation in a set that made you both contemplate and roar with laughter, while Martin Newell and the Hosepipe Band’s set saw Martin lyrically wandering the eastern counties evoking tales of times gone by gloriously backed by the Hosepipe band on an array of interesting instruments from dulcimer, and saxophone to piano and harmoniums. A magical set. Luke Daniels, ably abetted by an ancient musical box like instrument the polyphon which he then looped created a mix of aerie faerie atmospheric music over which he sturdily sang and strummed. Local heroes Alden Patterson and Dashwood’s lyrical close harmony songs, most notably on ‘Moon Song’ and ‘The Time Song’ received one of the most rapturous receptions of the weekend and led to a standing ovation on the Moot hall stage only normally reserved for the Young Un’s. They have gone beyond our fine city and are doing us proud. The Hadleigh Folk club Sunday morning take over of the Broad roots tent produced 2 highlights in Rosewood’s jaunty take on traditional tunes, while Kath Tait’s ‘bonkers’ and observational songs of ending up on the wrong train, disastrous marriages, and shrunken sisters were a joy to hear. Will Pound’s set re-investigating morris dance tunes complete with a story teller set the feet tapping and the mind racing, while
PLEASE QUOTE THIS MAGAZINE WHEN YOU CONTACT OUR ADVERTISERS
the cheerful and chirpy upbeat tunes of Banter brought a spring to the step, as did the often Klezmer inspired Jon Langan band on the main stage on Sunday night. My final highlight goes to an amusing and quirky set on the soapbox stage from the lyrically barbed and distinctively dressed Sally Army who whooped the audience up into a frenzy. A truly magnificent weekend. Roll on 2019. Shane’s Sunday afternoon event at the Reindeer saw Eluize creating atmospheric almost Cure like guitar led tunes, Stromm singing catchy songs with words to make you think, and great harmonies, and elongated improvised instrumental tunes from The Wash encompassing psychedelia and Krautrock. A week later at the same venue mid tour The Shackleton Trio’s fluent playing and mix of self penned entertaining songs from the product of a vivid imagination and traditional stories went down well and brought in friends wanting to welcome them home. OST’s night in the courtyard at Cinema city saw Dawn Chorus singing American folk and work songs in sweet harmony, while a sizeable crowd turned out to see former Sargasso Trio duo Ben C Winn and Emily Winng’s new trio Fresh Flowers with Emily and Kellies powerful voices ringing out over Ben’s electronic drums and keytar backing producing at times a big 80s production sound. Groovy!! Finally I have been working with cult 60s and 70s cult singer songwriter Bridget st.John promoting her tour and her gig at the John Peel Centre in Stowmarket was
superb. Mixing magical songs ‘Ask me no questions’ and ‘Fly High’ from her early albums on John Peel’s Dandelion label with covers of Dylan, Cohen and Buffy St Marie with anecdotes aplenty this was a mesmerising evening made even more pleasant by getting to have a long chat with John Peel’s widow Sheila. PENGUINS GO POP- We had a great night launching our album ‘20th Century Pop’ at the Last Pub Standing with a large turn out of people (thanks everyone), and have a short album tour late 2018 taking in Aldborough church rooms on Saturday 20th October, a live broadcast on West Norfolk radio Sunday 18th Nov between 7 and 9 pm, Shane’s night at the Reindeer 22nd Nov, and back at the Last Pub Standing Sat 22nd December.
