nglia Print Ltd, as its last hoorah to the European Union, has been awarded its EMAS accreditation for the 6th year running. The Eco-Management and Audit Scheme is the highest environmental standard for any business in Europe, making us 1 of only 11 printing companies in the UK to achieve it, but the accreditation will no longer be valid after January 31st. The auditing process of EMAS, and as part of that process making the findings of that audit available to the general public, made it the toughest and most transparent environmental accreditation available. The audit findings and its publication meant that our customers could be even more confident that we are operating to the highest levels of environmental care. We were and still are the only printing company in East Anglia to achieve EMAS.

We’re busy, so it seems to be working! Here are some of the things we’ve done so far:

Keeping to the highest environmental standards is part of what we are at Anglia Print Ltd and we are on the search for other suitable environmental accreditations. Once we are out of the European Union there may be new UK based accreditations to take the place of EMAS. If this is the case we’ll make sure we go above and beyond the necessary environmental and management requirements to gain it.

IEMA Awards “Most Sustainable Organisation” 2019 Our list of environmental awards is growing and our hope is that by showing that a business like ours can do it, any business can and this can only be good news. Getting to this level has been very hard work and has cost us a lot in time, effort and money, plus some sleepless nights and I would personally like to thank all the staff at Anglia Print Ltd, our customers, UEA, Norfolk, Suffolk and Norwich City Councils and many, many others who have helped us along the way.

Time and Tide Museum of Great Yarmouth Life

Norwich Pride

May the Toys be with You 28 March to 13 September 2020

Brought to you from a galaxy far, far way, this exhibition of over 300 Star Wars toys, original cinema posters and memorabilia is an absolute must see for fans of all ages. In 1977, the first Star Wars film broke box office records. But nobody could have predicted that the merchandising would end up earning more than the film itself. Star Wars toys became the must-have playthings for an entire generation, with an estimated 300 million action figures sold between 1977 and 1985. The exhibition is not only a celebration of classic toys and collectables but also of the iconic design and art work of the Star Wars films. From X-Wing Fighters to lightsabers, these fantastic creations have fired our imaginations and made their mark on our cultural landscape since the first film was released over forty years ago.

lacquers add mechanical strength and stain resistance. The Scandi look is extremely popular, floors treated with ultra-matte sheens to give a raw, bleached / pale grey look that’s miles apart from the generic shiny orangey tones of times gone by. Customers of course can still opt for a glossy finish, or any colour from white through to black. And that’s just the thing- floor sanding is no longer a one size fits all kind of thing. It’s come on leaps and bounds in the past decade, and Blitz are right up there riding on the exciting range of materials and machinery now available. Danny started Blitz in 2010, and in 2013 won The Princes Trust Enterprise Award. 5 years on from being awarded that accolade, Blitz continues to grow, develop and Flourish.

In terms of floor wood floor sanding, Blitz uses the very best machines, primers, lacquers and dust control systems the industry has to offer. Oil and water based primers give the required tone and colour; ceramic based

February is LGBT History Month - a time to celebrate the contributions that lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people have made to society throughout history. Here at Norwich Pride we have a storytelling project called OUT140 where we ask people to tell us their coming out stories in 140 characters or less - the original tweet on Twitter. It’s one way in which we are helping to preserve the histories of local LGBT+ people. Here’s a selection of stories that capture what life has been like over the last few decades. - Born 1947. Inkling gay because I liked boy next door. First time at 14 behind bike shed. Scary to be gay in 60s. Police always chasing you. - 1984 grandma watching Greenham Common on news. She said “look at those filthy lesbians rolling in the mud" I said "I'm going there tomorrow” - Imagine…1987, aged 16. On Scotland 2 London coach for my first gay pride. 10,000 people in Jubilee Gardens...I am no longer the only one. - 1994 My ex outed me at the school collecting our sons. I then lost custody of them for being a lesbian - the judge said i was an unfit mum. - 2018 I’ve been declined jobs and opportunities because I’m trans. It’s illegal, but not something I can change. We’ve still got work to do. - Today my son who is 12 told us he is very likely going to have a husband when he is older Norwich Pride is Saturday 25th July 2020. www.norwichpride.org.uk

Winter on the Allotments I am writing this in mid January, sitting in a comfy chair, with a glass of wine, in front of a fire. Like my allotment, I am resting. Some of my fellow allotment holders are much more active and have already started digging their plots, arguing that the cold will break up the soil, thus saving them some hard work, and killing pests and diseases by exposing them. I’ve never really understood these arguments, considering that gardeners spend considerable time making a fine tilth with rakes and the chickens tell me that pests and diseases lurk along the edges of beds. In addition, so far this season there has been one night of -1 degrees centigrade when 4 consecutive nights of -4 or colder are needed to have any effect on pests and diseases. Early digging undoubtedly leads to nutrients being leeched out of the soil, so we come to rely on artificial fertilisers. Heavy rainfall, like we’ve been having, means that all the waterbutts are lovely and full, but exposed soil looks grainy and thin rather than crumbly and rich. Climate change dictates that we change the way we garden. 2015 was the UN’s International Year of the Soil and December 5th every year has been dedicated World Soil Day. 2020 is the International Year of Plant Health. This strikes me as a very logical series of declarations. Plant health and soil health are linked. So while some gardeners dig up worms and other beneficial creatures, I will continue to peruse seed catalogues for a while longer.

Gelatin, used to make jelly/jello, is very thin slices of a particular breed of jellyfish. The Bramble jellyfish is farmed for this purpose

Fish are, in fact, all dead and are the animal equivalent of zombies. t the end of 2019, Norwich High School for Girls beat a record number of entries across the country to win Independent Girl's School of the Year at the Independent School of the Year awards. The school was one of just seven schools to have made it through to the final round held at the Royal Thames Yacht Club in London. Kirsty von Malaisé, headmistress and one of the EDP’s Top 100 Inspiring women, said: "Norwich High School is an outstanding school and I could not be more proud that we have received national recognition of this.” "We were lauded not only for our pioneering Inspiring Females programme which has supported well over 3,000 young women from Norfolk and beyond over the last three years, but also for our bold ambitions for the girls in many other exceptional initiatives."

Norwich City Council continues impressive carbon footprint reductions

Grumpy Corner

H

ere we are then 2020, stone me what a life! In a bizarre parallel with the Sandringham lot Mrs Anchor and I are striving for financial independence but unfortunately we don’t have the head start of the couple we all know and love, Harry and Me Again. Canada is an appropriate choice for Me Again cos just like the Mounties she got her man! Perhaps they could rent out Frogmore as a holiday let….or charge Uncle Andrew to use it as a bolt hole, I am sure it will make a change from the Alps. Klosters to you!! I noticed that the Royal revolving door policy was in full swing as Harry & Me Again headed for the Yukon to try a bit of financial strife and independence with a bit of gold panningthrown in, Airmiles Andy was allowed out to go to church with his mum. Football, it is only a few months to the next round of Football coming home I can just see Jack Hawkins and Richard Todd polishing their boots and sharpening their studs (sorry that was Chopper Harris) or loading the shotgun if you are Arthur Shelby. Already we need to worry about injuries but no doubt Gareth “Mr waistecoat” Southgate will have something up his sleeve though sadly not Martin Peters who has gone to join Sir Bobby in footie heaven.

of Prince of Wales Rd on the basis that the Beatles played at the Grosvener Rooms on their 1963 UK tour. So presumably every destination on that tour will be busy with Beatles carvings and sculptures….Surely if we are to honour the Fab Four in Norwich we must take a step back in their career and remember the day someone went into Brian Epstein’s record shop to ask for My Bonnie by the Beatles. But the singer was a local Norwich lad Tony Sheridan so move over John and get on that plinth Tony! And let’s not forget The Rutles….R.I.P. Neil Innes Christmas came and went and no doubt will come back again (in the shops in April) unless the earth catches fire before then. It could well be helped on it’s way by everyone’s favourite eco-warrior Donald “the peach” Trump. When he’s not saving/ destroying the world or playing golf he is hovering over a post Brexit Blighty waiting to carve it all up starting with the NHS. I bought the Xmas Radio Times but didn’t get chance to watch much, I caught a glimpse of Genevieve as a high point but then ended up with Strictly. Didn’t even get to see Alastair Sim in A Christmas Carol!!! But I did manage to guess one of my presents…..it’s hard to disguise a Toblerone….!

Local news…..roadworks! Travellers hit NR2….

Flipping Kids.

Help!! I am sure (and it’s not April 1st yet) that I read somewhere about a proposal to erect a statue of John Lennon at the bottom

Not so financially independent!!

Norwich City Council has once again significantly reduced its carbon footprint, as shown by new statistics.Latest figures, which cover the financial year ending on 31 March 2019, show a 2.5% decrease in carbon reductions relating to council operations. This further progress brings the city council’s total reductions to 59.6%, against a 2007 baseline. Councillor Dr Kevin Maguire, Cabinet member for safe and sustainable city environment, said, “Improving our environmental impact is an absolute priority for the council, and I’m glad that our ambitious target of a 40% reduction has been met and comfortably surpassed. “We will continue to take steps to improve even further in this regard.” The city council’s achievements in reducing its energy use have received national recognition this year at the EDIE Sustainability Leaders Awards in February and the Energy Management Association Awards in November, with the council scooping accolades at both ceremonies. The council’s Environmental Strategy Manager, Richard Willson, said, “We are always seeking new opportunities to reduce carbon emissions across the council’s portfolio of assets. “For example, currently we have an ambitious LED lighting project being implemented at St Andrew’s Car Park. This is part of a wider project to improve the efficiency of all council premises.” Norwich City Council is currently drafting its next Carbon Management Plan and Environmental Strategy, where the target for the next phase of carbon emissions reductions will be set to 2023.

For slightly older children, the Theatre also offers skills workshops; everything from sewing to painting to model making and animation. If the grown-ups feel like getting creative too, look out for the Theatre’s special family days, where families can see a show and take part in an immersive workshop together. Peace of mind comes from the knowledge that your affairs are in order. Making a Will is something many people regularly think about but often put off for one reason or another. Whether it is due to not wanting to take time out from a busy schedule to visit an office, not wanting to think about it or a feeling of intimidation and pressure, it is easy to find a reason not to do it. At Anglian Will Writing, we want to help you sort out your affairs in as easy and relaxed a way as possible. This is why we will visit you in the comfort of your own home, at a time that suits you, to discuss your requirements and ensure your Will achieves everything you need and avoids common mistakes that can cause Wills to fail. We can also advise and guide you through Lasting Powers of Attorney. Whilst a Will deals with your affairs after you have died, who will look after your affairs while you are still alive, should you become incapable of doing so yourself? Contrary to what many believe, this is not something you do if you get dementia as, by then, it is too late and your loved ones will have to apply to the Court of Protection, which is time consuming, stressful and extremely expensive. Illness, accident or stroke could result in loss of capacity at any time and it pays to be prepared. It is better to have and not need than to need and not have! Contact us for help and advice with the following: Make a Will Probate

uranfoe’s album launch at Karma Café just before Christmas was a great success with the resulting album justifiably receiving 4 and 5 star reviews and an online site naming it the Prog album of the year. Still in their early to mid 20s the roots of their music hark back to some of the more obscure progressive rock and Canterbury scene bands of the 70s, as emphasised by Joe the drummer sporting a Magma T Shirt, mixed in with some of the 90s more sonorous acts such as God Speed You Black Emperor. Complex arrangements and riffs aplenty but not forsaking melody lines and tuneful passages for sure they are all dextrous and extremely competent musicians. Fripp and Zappa like sustained hypnotic guitar riffs float over propulsive rhythm’s and lead into frantic mid sections that build to a crescendo. They are one seriously good and inventive band, their album ‘Sum of Erda’ is a real gem and has quite rightly been getting the recognition that it, and they deserve. Quietly they could, and should, be destined to be the band from this region to go beyond the east in 2020, but while they may well be overlooked by the mainstream media they could become one of the cult bands of the next decade both nationally and internationally. Look out for them. Support act Fools Moon of a similar generation likewise draw heavily from the past influence wise as well with the bluesish nifty guitar interplay on ‘Magic Carpet Ride’ being reminiscent of the Peter Green and Danny Kirwan late 60s / early 70s Fleetwood Mac, and the elongated

solo’s on ‘Wizards Hat’ suggesting hints of Wishbone Ash. However equally their bass player’s double bass solo had hints of Charlie Mingus and their drummers solo suggested a knowledge of Max Roach and Art Blakey. Equally it will be interesting to check the progress of this band as well and with an album due for release this year they too could follow in Guranfoe’s wake.
