Hellolovely people. I am going to have to start with the obvious this edition and mention the sad passing of Her Majesty the Queen. Whether a royalist or not it is certainly a moment in history not many of us will forget. I sat with my girls and watched the funeral on tv along with the 4.1 billion others. As with most people she is the only monarch i’ve ever known and it will take a bit of getting use to the fact we now have a King and have to change the words in our national anthem. Our MD John had the pleasure of meeting Her Majesty in 2016 when Anglia Print Ltd won the Queens Award for Sustainable Development - something we are all very proud of. October brings us the gorgeous, colourful Autumnal weather which is my favourite season. Take a look at page 21 for ‘The Real Halloween’ festival and the Halloween Spooktacular at the Hippodrome circus in Great Yarmouth which looks spookily good. We are also gearing up for panto season (oh yes we are....) with not one but two different performances of Jack & the Beanstalk at the Theatre Royal Norwich & Lowestoft Marina Theatre. If you are struggling for gift ideas this year for Christmas Redwings are offering the chance to sponsor a Redwings ‘Adoption Star’ - a truly unique gift for a loved one, and every penny goes towards their care and that of their four legged friends at the Sanctuary - of which there are over 1,500 - see page 23 for more details. There is also the Festive Fair at The Forum to look forward to from 24th -27th November with FREE entry with plenty of arts & crafts, plants & decorations and festive food and drink to get you into the Christmas spirit... until next time take care....

Community Gym at Loddon

The Community Gym at Loddon has a new permanent home! In August we moved from the Jubilee Hall in Loddon to the address above. This is a fantastic opportunity for the Gym to expand the days and times we are open whilst remaining the friendly space we have always been.

From now on the Gym will open at some part of every day Monday to Friday as follows:

Monday 1.45pm - 5.25pm

Tuesday 4.45pm - 7.05pm

Wednesday 9.00am - 11.20am

Thursday 6.00pm - 8.20pm

Friday 10.15am - 12.35am

As we are a relatively compact Gym you will still need to book via com/easternriverscommunitygymwww.picktime.

Alternatively you can book a first session by ringing Louise, our well qualified fitness instructor on 07534 946143. These sessions will be extended if there is demand. Please note that there is two hours free parking in the Church Plain Car Park.

Membership remains at £20 per year. Session fees remain at £5 payable by card on arrival. In addition we have introduced a monthly fee of £30 for those who want to visit the Gym more frequently.

Whenever the Gym is open (Gym Open board on the railings outside) you are welcome to drop in and see the Gym for yourself. If you are young and want to improve your fitness and stamina we are local and well equipped and look forward to welcoming you. If you have health concerns, come and talk to Louise and, if necessary, your GP has Referral Forms that ensure that the programme designed by Louise for you is safe and appropriate for your fitness level and goals.

Therecan be a lot to think about when someone dies, at what is almost certainly a very emotional time. Usually, it is the Executors appointed under a will who are responsible for dealing with legal matters. If there isn’t a will in place it falls to the ultimate beneficiaries of the estate (who take on the role as Administrators). Executors must perform their duties in accordance with the terms of the will and various legal statutes. Executors (and Administrators) can face personal financial liability for any omissions or mistakes they make. Perhaps harshly, such liability can arise even if they are unaware of a particular duty or action that needs to be

Celebrating their 10th anniversary FOLK EAST was until 2020 my favourite Summer festival. I was there for their first outing in 2012, and went to all 3 main days from then to 2019.

I returned for just one day this year, and wearing my original 2012 T Shirt it was great to see 3 acts I have worked with opening the days events. MOORE AND MOSS aka Tom Moore and Archie Churchill-Moss are 2 of the most in demand session players on the young folk circuit. They take tradition as an influence but utilising 21st century technology create melodic, yet experimental soundscapes. Their atmospheric, yet rhythmic set was well received. CHRISTINA ALDEN AND ALEX PATTERSON divided their set equally between old, new and traditional songs. Nature looms large on long standing originals the plaintive yet poignant ‘The Greenland Shark’, and ‘positive protest song’ ‘Land Corridors’. A traditional mid section led into new song and future classic ‘Our House’ Christina’s tale of growing up in a folk household that led to a great festival sing-along moment resonating with many an audience member. Just lovely. THE NORFOLK BROADS mixed dark tales of mischief and murder with sea-faring and shanty songs sung in strong but harmonious voices. Stories of never to be or thwarted love sat alongside warnings of living extravagant lifestyles and murders aplenty. They exited stage left to a much deserved rousing reception. Patrons of the festival THE YOUNG UN’S annual podcast is a knockabout hour of tomfoolery and buffoonery led by David Eagle and his madcap ideas harking back to the days of the music hall. From a blindfolded game of Guess the veg, to tongue twisting and double entendre songs to morris dancing with marrows and more this delightfully daft hour brought some much

needed humour in this crazy old world. The 10th anniversary proved to be controversial with many punters unhappy about the loss of the Broad Roots and Soapbox stages, and the very late announcements of some artists putting people off attending. However, part of the festival’s charm is ambling around taking in the stalls, sessions, projects and bumping into old friends. 2 hours elapsed before seeing THE UNTHANKS. Sadly despite their subtle arrangements, double bass, piano and drums, haunting brass and strings and harmonious voices their numerous melancholy and mournful songs just don’t move me. Fortunately DAVID EAGLE’S stand up comedy set soon put a smile back on my face. Meanwhile TOPETTE entranced a packed out whirling dervish of an audience in the dance tent with their energetic French dance tunes while SOLANA still led by siblings Tamsin and Rowan have expanded their influences from folk and Spanish to include world, jazz, dub and Eastern proving that when we could not venture out into the world they carried on absorbing its music and culture. SAM KELLY AND THE LOST BOYS mixed traditional songs with a pop edge, original songs, and from their parents collections notably a banjo driven ‘Sultans of Swing’. They have become the go to band for many a festival. A packed audience danced maniacally to BLACKBEARD’S TEA PARTY especially to the drinking song ‘The Old Dun Cow’. However the bizarre and entertaining encore ‘Chicken on a Raft’ with the audience flapping their arms, bellowing out the song title, and pondering how it got there will stay with me for some time. Crazy. Meanwhile as I was leaving FROG ON A BIKE still had hordes of people frantically dancing to their energetic ceilidh tunes. FOLK EAST
