There is nothing as delightfully satisfying as the taste of an English muffin with peanut butter and grape jelly. Fresh out of the toaster, the muffin welcomes the butter to melt and seek out all of its little nooks and crannies.

A good slab of peanut butter holds the butter in place, allowing it to get cozy with the muffin. As the peanut butter joins the warm coupling, a bit of grape jam or jelly tops it off - like a fragrant flower on a new hat. The first bite of the warm crunchy texture and smooth creaminess is pure, unadulterated bliss.

There are days I do believe I could have this for every meal & I’d be totally happy.

It's not just the Taste of this familiar combo, it's also the comfort you get from eating it. It wraps me in pleasant childhood memories of pb&j on white bread, in my lunch box.

Such a small thing to find happiness in, but if we find joy in the little things, we will find love. ♥

GrinderZZ Interview With Cheryl Cooley I am so proud to be conducting this interview with this beautiful Queen. Cheryl Cooley is ago household name you all should know. If you're a fan of great music and girl bands, then you all should remember the group, Klymaxx. Cheryl Cooley was so gracious to take some time out of her busy schedule to pay a visit to us here at the GrinderZZ studio.

Let's hear what she has to say.

GrinderZZ: At what age did you show an interest in music?

Cheryl: At age 11.

GrinderZZ: Was the guitar the only instrument you played growing up?

Cheryl: Yes. GrinderZZ: Who was the brainstorm behind the group and the name, Klymaxx?

Cheryl: It was actually chosen before I got in the band. It means the ultimate peek of musical excitement. Lol GrinderZZ: My parents had all of your songs playing loudly in the house when we would have cookouts. Out of all of your songs, which one is your favorite to jam too?

GrinderZZ: Growing up, what musicians influenced you into becoming a music artist yourself?

Cheryl: My sister, who is sixteen years older than me, was married to a Jazz flutist by the name of Hubert Laws. He happened to have his guitar at my parents’ house and I told him that I had a toy guitar and I accidently played a TV theme song on it and my sister yelled out, “Let’s get Cheryl some guitar lessons.”

GrinderZZ: How does it feel to know that people still love and worship the ground you all walk on when you hit that stage?

Cheryl: Wow! It really feels like an honor to be appreciated, still to this day.

GrinderZZ: Are there any tour dates you have coming up in the next month or two?

Cheryl: On February 11th we will be performing in Little Rock, Arkansas, on March 18th we will be in Santa Ana, California and in April we’ll be in Texas.

GrinderZZ: What advice can you give someone who is thinking about becoming a talented musician like yourself?

Cheryl: Learn and study all that you can about the art, the business and the trends. Practice and learn your talent, so that no one can throw you off your path or your game.

Sheryl: I am a business writer/publicist/ghostwriter. I am a wordsmith with a gift for enchanting words and heart-felt emotion. Marketing is my passion. I handle marketing, contracts and sponsorship. I write PR for celebrities, real estate professionals, small businesses, non-profits and ghosts projects for celebrities. My guerilla marketing strategies create cash flow, community awareness, and inspire action. As a true connoisseur of delicious words, I make the reader feel, see, and hear; stamping an imprint, an emotion that cannot be ignored. Words foster action. Success is the result. GrinderZZ: Growing up, did you always have your eyes set on being in the entertainment business?

Sheryl: I am a writer. I have worked in the hair

industry, real estate, non-profit and business sectors as well as entertainment. I won my first award in 6th grade and dedicated a building for the city.

GrinderZZ: Can you tell us the different people you've worked with and represented?

Sheryl: To me, every client from A-list to small business owners have equal value. As a ghostwriter, I have written for A-list and professors, but I cannot disclose names.

GrinderZZ: I know you are a great lover of music.

Growing up, who did you love jamming too?

Sheryl: My parents were Southern, so Gospel and Country were big in my house. I was drawn to R&B and even danced in music videos.

I have clients in every aspect of music, so I can’t really favor one.

GrinderZZ: Speaking from experience, I loved working the red carpet for the Soul Train and the Stellar Awards. How exciting is it for you when you hit that carpet?

Sheryl: I am normally working with the producers, so I am working at red carpets. Other people are there for pleasure and socializing, but I am working to make an event perfect; huge job, but great satisfaction.

GrinderZZ: You're currently the publicist for musician, Cheryl Cooley from, the girl group, Klymaxx, who is featured in the March/April GrinderZZ issue, also. How exciting is that for you?

Sheryl: I love working with Cheryl Cooley. She is honest, completes every task and is always optimistic. She is an exceptional client with an amazing body of work. I am blessed!

GrinderZZ: Do you have any huge projects coming up that you can speak about?

Sheryl: I have several. My ghostwriting project deals with a professional athlete. I am working on a memoir for a prominent Soul Train, Solar Records personality. I just pitched a biopic about “The Queen of Tax Fraud”. I, also, work with a couple of 501c3’s (non-profits) as a grant writer.

GrinderZZ: What advice could you give to someone who may be looking to becoming a publicist?

Sheryl: Get your education. PR is a portion of the work done by a marketing professional. Too many people declare themselves a publicist because they can get people on red carpets. That is only shadow work and not the job. Study marketing.

GrinderZZ: How can someone reach you if they're interested in working with you?

Former Soul Train Dancer

GrinderZZ: Can you describe your Soul Train experience or memory specifically (what were you wearing, what do you remember on set, key details about your performance, any specific memories of conversations you had there)?

DFOX: Waiting and watching for the theme song to the opening, then seeing the animated train chugging to the beat of the music meant that its Saturday morning and it’s Time to Get Down.

The STARS…, “The Soul Train Gang,“ Pat Davis, Damita Jo Freeman, Jimmy Scooby Doo Foster, Shabadoo and Fawn Quinones, Tyronne Proctor, Jeffrey Daniels and Jody Watley would fulfill my LIFE every SATURDAY morning. . I could hardly wait for Soul Train to come on, and I would repeat every move I was able to catch and execute the moves at the next party or dance I would attend. It was perfect timing because disco clubs were becoming popular and were sponsoring

teenage dances on the weekends.

All the practicing I’d done on the picnic tables at school paid off. A lot of the dances the were originated in urban areas all over the nation, from Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Detroit, Los Angeles, Boston, Texas, Louisiana, and Florida. Dances like the Cabbage Patch, Running Man, Penguin, Funky Chicken, Rock Steady, the Tilt, Body Language, the Robot, the Shamrock, Pop, Lock, Waacking, Slow Motion, Push and Pull, and the Boogaloo just to name a few. I was determined to learn and execute every one of them. Never leaving from in front of the television for an entire hour for every moment, every commercial … and the most exciting feature of the program the “Soul Train Line”. This was the stuff…my dreams were starting to become reality…!

I wanted, I needed… to get on Soul Train. There was a Club called Ichabods and there was a weekly dance contest. I happen to compete not realize that the surprise judge was none other than Jeffrey Daniels, who had just finished Shalamar’s album Uptown Garden. I’d won the contest and got my chance to ask Jeffrey ..How, When, Where …and can get on Soul Train?. He was handing out autographed albums that night and gave my brother and I an album each. He autographed his nickname “FEATHERS” and a phone number. He said call me in a few days and I’ll get you in touch with the floor director. It was just as he promised. I went to Hollywood, got to K.T.T.V. Studio, got in the long line of people I noticed from watching them on TV… nervous and ready to be a SOUL TRAIN GANGSTAR. Once inside the studio I was transfixed on stage, lights, the disco ball with the Soul Train logo and the huge lit neon sign – “SOUL TRAIN” and then of course there was the man himself “Don Cornelius” commanding and in charge. He was

just standing tall talking low to whomever he was engaged with.

It was time for me to finally make my way to becoming one of the Soul Train Gangstars. I knew I was making history, all I needed was a chance to Dance. The rest is History. I was on Soul Train from 1980 to 1993, only missing a few tapings in between.

GrinderZZ: What did Soul Train mean to you?

DFOX: Soul Train is Trailblazing and Historic. Like no other show. Soul Train blew me away seeing it for the first time in October 1971. A year after losing my mother to cancer. Soul Train helped me overcome grief and gave me joy … something to look forward to every Saturday morning. Soul Train was an hour where I could let go of reality and just enjoy watching the dancers moves and their clothes grooving. It was where I got to see folks that looked like me having fun. Soul Train is an American Institution. Soul Train is Historic for its roster of the Greatest Entertainers in the World. I can say that I am a part of Soul Train’s History and its Importance in Black Culture, R&B and Pop Culture.

I’m proud to be amongst Soul Train’s inductees in the National Museum of African American History and Culture. I also am currently the ambassador on the Soul Train Cruise and have been involved since 2013, where I get to relive those days dancing to James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, and Teena Marie in a Soul Train Line while cruising on the ocean. With other Soul Train Gangstars

like “Pat Butterfly Davis”, Jody Watley, Mo Q., …and the girl with the “Long Hair, Cheryl Song”! Soul Train is a Multimedia Conglomerate, with its own record label. Soul Train is mentioned in many songs, films, videos, sitcoms, and comedy specials. I’m honored to be in this organization. SOUL TRAIN...Literally means Love, Peace, and SOUL to me.

DFOX is the character I was able to bring to Life being creative on Soul Train. I started many trends and styles on Soul Train.

“FOXTAILS “worn by Madonna, Usher, Macklemore, Beyonce and Soul Sonic Force, Justin Bieber, Cam Newton and many others. My look was always fresh and changing from season to season. From foxtails, bolero hats, baggy suits, hairstyles, sunshades, gloves, “It was the 1980’s”. NEW WAVE, FUNK, POP, SOUL and ELECTRO. I danced with some of the most famous former Soul Train Stars, Rosie Perez, Vivica, Robin Power, and Carmen Electra.

My contribution to Soul Train is in almost all documentaries, books, and publications (i.e. -books) – Love Peace and Soul - author Erica Blount Danois / Soul Train – Questlove / The Hippest Trip in America – Nelson George / TV A Go Go – Jake Austin. (i.e., film) – Show Me Your Soul - filmmaker Pascal Forneri, / VH-1 Rock Doc: The Hippest Trip in America – Nelson George / BET – I was a Soul Train Dancer – producer Timiza San. (i.e., Commercial) Star Vista Soul Train and R&B Music – Time Life Warner.

There is a feature program about musicians, and what happened and where are they now entitled “UNSUNG “…it’s a fact that the Soul Train footage used to tell their stories, and I’m seen in almost every episode that airs dancing on stage. I toured for Soul Train in North and South America, Caribbean, Japan, and Europe. In the 1980’s I represented Soul Train in the Special Olympics and ART on the Mall Washington DC and Keys to the city of Los Angeles for SOUL TRAIN DAY. So many accolades Soul Train has afforded me. I feel blessed and thankful to be a part of a special place and time in the History of the United States of America GrinderZZ: What kind of impact do you think Soul Train had on Black culture broadly?

DFOX: Soul Train gave Pride to the BLACK COMMUNITY. A place on television where people that loved music, performance, great dancing,

wild fashions, and beautiful people would tune in. Soul Train taught the world to dance. Soul Train, being the longest running syndicated program in television, is still very important in the fabric of Black American History 50 years later. So many things about Soul Train is a part of American Culture as well. The Soul Train Line, the Scramble Board, and the opening voice warning the SOOOOOUUL TRAAAAINNN…!, Don Cornelius’s parting words on most of the closings - LOVE PEACE and SOUL…! Americana at its finest.

GrinderZZ: Do you remember Don Cornelius and what impact did he have?

DFOX: I, absolutely, remember Don Cornelius. I happen to be one of the last Soul Train dancers to see Don in person. In October 2011, I was backstage at an event called, “The Taste of L.A.“…in the Crenshaw District of Los Angeles. The event had bands, TV personalities, radio disc jockeys and dignitaries. Don was a guest speaker. It was Don, his son Tony Cornelius and Don’s Secretary. His secretary is who recognized me and called Don over. A cousin with me who is a photographer … as I’m telling Don “Thank you“ under the loud music coming from the stage…captures the moment. It’s surreal to have that MEMORY. Of course, soon…February 2012, Don took his life. I attended his memorial, as did many Soul Train Dancers and famous folks all sitting together. Chaka Khan, Smokey Robinson, Jody Watley, and Stevie Wonder. It was very Respectful and Insightful. Don was very private, so attending the memorial we got to hear a lot about who he was as a man outside of what he was famous for. Deep voice, Afro, cool clothing and the host of the “Hippest Trip in America.”

GrinderZZ: What was your favorite Soul Train episode or act? What was special about that episode that made it stand out to you?

DFOX: I have so many memorable moments. Like the many times I was chosen to perform on Soul Train stage with just music artist and myself. Some were caught on film forever and some ended

up on the cutting room floor. A Janet Jackson solo… Sheila E., both never to be seen.

However, those that can be found include Carey Lucas, Evelyn Champagne King, Jody Watley, Thelma Houston, and Sybil Lynch. One of my most favorite moments was sneaking a kid into a Soul Train Line after two days of being told to sit down while visiting the set..!! I had him sneak into back of stage and wait for me to signal to come up from behind, jump on the stage and then give the camera EVERYTHING HE HAD. Don Cornelius loved it. And it’s one of my favorite Soul Train lines.

There are so many memorable moments of being a part of Soul Train, not only in the studio taping, but also concerts, parties, reunions, trade shows, conventions, and award shows. The Soul Train Gang gets together for an annual Christmas party and charity event where we do what we do best “DANCE “and look Good while doing it.

An Interview With

William “Happy” Murrell

Mr. William Murrell is in a class by himself. Named Happy, by the Godfather himself, Mr. James Brown, as well as others, Happy is the name he goes by, because he's always pleasantly smiling. As one of James Brown's right hand men, William drove Mr. Brown from 1996 to 2006, and does he have stories to tell! Let's chat with Happy.

GrinderZZ: Mr. Murrell, “Happy,” welcome to our studio! I'm so pleased to have you here! You're truly history, when it comes to talking about my father in law, the late, James Brown. Please tell my audience a little about yourself.

William: My Name is William "Happy" Murrell. I'm from a small town in North Carolina, called Pollocksville. I retired from the U. S. Army, in 1995. I was the General Driver and the Hospital Administrator for 18 years. I met Mr. James Brown when I was stationed at Fort Gordon, and the rest was History.

GrinderZZ: Growing up, who were your favorite artists?

William: My Favorite artists, when I was growing up, was James Brown and Michael Jackson and I ended up being the chauffeur for both of the Greatest Entertainers of All times, GrinderZZ: Do you remember the first time you pulled up in your limo to pick James Brown up?

William: The very First time I picked up Mr. Brown, we connected on our first visit. His regular chauffeur limousine was in the shop and his Assistant called my office to pick Mr. Brown up and take him to the airport. Our vibes were perfect and when I told him that I was a soldier and will be retiring soon, he stated, “Mr. Murrell, I would like for you to be my chauffeur.” I couldn't say no.

William: Yes, I still have the limousine that Mr. Brown rode in, every time he needed a ride. The limousine still smells like the Godfather and he will always be in the back seat passenger side.

GrinderZZ: Your limo business is still booming. Please give us a list of some of the other artists you've driven for, and still driving for right now.

William: We are, currently, on the Street Tour with Rick Ross, Jeezy, Gucci Mane, T.I. Legendz.

GrinderZZ: It just took one time for you to drive for him and James Brown kept and hired you as his personal driver for life. How much excitement was in your head at that very moment?

William: I felt like a kid in the toy store. Happy!

GrinderZZ: I know you have funny stories you've experienced being a part of the James Brown camp. Is there one that you can tell us about, that's safe to tell?

William: There were so many funny stories that happened, when I was around Mr. Brown. The one that I would like to share with you is: I was at Mr. Brown’s house waiting for him to come out of the house. He was inside with his CPA. All of a sudden, his CPA can running out of the house and Mr. Brown was right behind him. His CPA fell in the driveway and Mr. Brown stated, “I will kill you if you steal another dollar from me.”

GrinderZZ: You told us that you still own the limousine that you drove Mr. Brown in, and it still has his scent.

When you sit inside the car, do you still feel his presence?

GrinderZZ: God has, also, brought you out of a near death situation, while riding your motorcycle. How have you been able to heal from that situation?

William: Yes, I was hit at a red light, while riding my motorcycle. A young lady, talking on her phone, ran the light and ran over me and kept going. Thank God for a second chance to finish what I was born to do; give folks a RIDE OF A LIFETIME. GrinderZZ: If someone would like to use your company for hire, how could they reach you?

My husband and I had the pleasure of being introduced to this singing sensation, through a mutual friend, and what caught my attention about him was the fact that he can sing. No, let me rephrase that.......HE CAN SANGGGGGGG!!

On top of his brilliant voice, he's a HUGE fan of my father n law, the late James Brown. He even had on a shirt with dad's face, when we met, so I just had to invite him to the GrinderZZ studio. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, Jerone Da Entertainer.

GrinderZZ: Grand rising sir, and welcome to the GrinderZZ studio. Please tell my audience a little about yourself.

Jerone: I'm Jerone Brown aka Jerone Da Entertainer. I was born and raised in Augusta, Georgia/ Beech Island, South Carolina, where we lived about 10 minutes from Mr. James Brown, until he passed away. I started singing, at a very early age, at the church I attend, Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, in Jackson, South Carolina.

“Sing, until you no longer have to introduce yourself. Believe in yourself. Let nothing distract you from doing what you love.”

GrinderZZ: How old were you when you first knew singing and entertaining people would be a part of your future endeavor?

Jerone: I was around 16 when I knew I wanted to sing. I loved the attention I gave and received from people, and from that time, going forward, I never doubted myself, as being a singer.

GrinderZZ: Like so many people, James Brown was an artist everyone loved. Were there any other artists you liked, and listened to, growing up?

Jerone: Oh yes! Kool and the Gang, Babyface, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Johnny Guitar Watson, Lou Rawls, Luther Vandross, to name a few.

GrinderZZ: How many songs have you written and put out?

Jerone: I'm working on my fifth EP, totaling around 30 songs and counting.

GrinderZZ: Have you done any shows or tours recently? If so, can you tell us about one that you did, and how fantastic it turned out?

Jerone: The Kiss Family Reunion 96.3, with Freddie Jackson, Johnny Gill, Lenny Williams, Avery Sunshine, Sunshine Anderson, Faith Evans, Nellie, Tiger Travis, Theodis Ealey, Denise Lasalle, & ect.

GrinderZZ: Name three artists, past or present, that if you had the chance to work with, you would do so, in a heartbeat.

Jerone: Babyface, Anthony Hamilton, Kem, James “JT” Taylor of Kool and the Gang.

GrinderZZ: Do you have any upcoming projects that you can speak about, in this interview with us?

Jerone: I have several projects coming up next Spring, when I release my new EP. GrinderZZ: What advice would you give someone who wants to get into the music industry?

Jerone: Sing, until you no longer have to introduce yourself. Believe in yourself. Let nothing distract you from doing what you love.

Emma was a part of the entourage of the late singer, as she and her late husband, Leon Austin, (who was James Brown's best friend, ever since they were in 3rd grade), traveled around the world, with the hardest working man in show business. I'm so pleased to conduct this interview. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you Emma Austin.

GrinderZZ: Hello Aunt Emma! Welcome to GrinderZZ. I am so pleased to have you here. Please tell my audience a little about yourself.

Aunt Emma: Well, my name is Emma and I have lived in Augusta, Georgia the majority of my life.

I love it here! There's so much history.

GrinderZZ: Describe your journey to becoming James Brown’s receptionist.

Aunt Emma: Well, my husband, the late Leon Austin, was best friends with Mr. Brown. I was looking for a job and Mr. Brown was relocating his office, from Cincinnati, Ohio to Augusta Georgia. Once he met me and heard my voice, he thought it was distinctive, so he decided to give me a try. He asked me did I know how to talk on the phone properly, to people, and be polite. I told him, “Yes.” He said, ”Ok, report to my office tomorrow, at 8:30 a.m., for work.” The rest is history.

GrinderZZ: After becoming James Brown's receptionist, he decided to bump your occupational status up to something more exciting. What was your next job with him?

Aunt Emma: Well, at the time, Mr. Brown already had a personal secretary, but something happened with her and Mr. Brown. They both had a personal disagreement and he decided not to continue doing business with her. He, then, approached me and asked how I felt about holding down two positions.

He wanted me to continue working the phones, but he also wanted me to be his personal secretary. I was a little nervous, because I saw what the other lady had to go through. It was extremely hard and stressful, keeping up with the Godfather of Soul. If everything wasn't on point with him, he would get really angry and upset, and I didn't want that type of stress in my life. Being that my husband was his best friend, he convinced Leon to talk me into becoming his personal assistant. They both said they knew I could hold it down and be great at it. So, with that being said, I prayed about it and then said, “Ok, I'll try it out.”

GrinderZZ: You told us that you husband, Leon was best friends with James Brown, ever since they were in the 3rd grade. He's traveled all around the world with him and even was his hair stylist. How did you feel about them leaving your husband out of the movie, “Get On Up,” starring the late Chadwick Boseman?

Aunt Emma: In the words of James Brown, “I was bewildered.” In a close relationship that stands over four decades, how could you leave out one of the most important people, who was in his life? I had neighbor's knocking on my door saying that they went to see that movie and was so shocked that my husband's name and his image was left out. To this day, I'm still hurt and very upset.

GrinderZZ: How old were you when you first started working for James Brown?

Aunt Emma: I was 20 years old. It was such a great experience.

GrinderZZ: Tell me about one crazy story that you can remember involving James Brown and a crazed fan trying to get to him.

Aunt Emma: There were a lot of craziness at that time, but my husband was the one that ran interference with that. He made sure nobody got that close to him, if he didn't want them to.

Leon was his best friend, his brother, his hair stylist, and his personal security officer.

GrinderZZ: On December 25, 2006, we lost the hardest working man in show business. When you found out he was gone, how did you feel at that present time?

Aunt Emma: I was in disbelief. My husband, at the time, was bedridden. We received a call between 2-4 a.m. We got the call from Mr. Brown's manager, saying that he was gone. My first words were, “Where did he go.......gone where?” He then replied, “He left this world. He just died.” By this time, my husband sat up from the bed and started asking me, “What's wrong?” As I began to cry, I told him that Mr. Brown passed away. Leon started crying, “My brother can't be gone.” It was so devastating.

GrinderZZ: How do you want the world to remember, James Brown?

Aunt Emma: I would love for people to know, the real man.......not the horrible stories, and the scandals. I would love for them to know about the giving, the compassionate, the caring, and the love he had for people, and how much he wanted and believed in family structure. This was the back story on why he did the turkey giveaway and the toy giveaway, during the holidays.

GrinderZZ: You told me once when the entire entourage would go out and eating dinner, Mr. Brown had a habit of ordering food for everyone, and it was ALWAYS what HE WANTED TO order for you all, or thought what you all needed to eat. How did you feel about that?

Aunt Emma: Yes, well, Mr. Brown ordered Lamb Chops, and wanted me to eat it, saying how healthy and good it is for the body. That wasn't settling in my head, and I told him, I would love to have chicken instead.

Well. He was so upset with me, he didn't speak to me for the rest of the night. Later the next day, he joked and called me. LAMB CHOP! GrinderZZ: Do you have any last word's/request?

Aunt Emma: I want to thank Mr. Brown for giving me the opportunity to see the world, to pull me out of my comfort zone and, also, I forgot to add, put me in the position to become one of the hottest DJ's in the CSRA area, with his radio station, WRDW. I, also, want to thank you for giving me the platform to tell my story. I love you dear niece. God Bless!

Vernell Varnado

GrinderZZ was so please to have been able to conduct an interview with VernellVernado, who just happens to be the father of one of the world's best-known rappers, in the game, Snoop Dog. Mr. Vernell has a lot going on right now, and we are so pleased that he was able to come to our studio, for this first-time interview.

GrinderZZ: Welcome to the GrinderZZ studio, Mr. Vernell. Please tell the fans a little about yourself.

Vernell: Hello! My name is VernellVernado. I was born in a small town, in Mississippi, in 1949.

GrinderZZ: At what age did you move to Los Angeles, California?

Vernell: My family and I moved out there when I was 16-years old.

GrinderZZ: I was very impressed on reading that you received three purple hearts in Vietnam and, also, wounded three times. At that moment, did you feel that your life was about to end?

Vernell: No, not at all. I was confident that I would be ok and make it back safely. I made it back to the United States, in June of 1969.

GrinderZZ: After Vietnam, you began a career with the United Postal Service in California, then later, moved to Detroit and continued your career as a postal worker, in some neighborhoods that may have been considered to be rough. Did you have any type of fear working in those areas?

Vernell: Yes, I began working for the Post Office, in 1970, in Los Angeles. In 1985, I moved to Detroit. I never feared for my safety, at all. In fact, I was loved by everyone in the neighborhood. Sure, the drug dealers would see me, but everyone in that area showed me nothing but love. I was, actually, their hero. At that time, there were many people who were on welfare and they would look out for me to deliver their checks. I never had any problems.

GrinderZZ: I'm so ecstatic to hear about your documentary titled, "The Detroit Mailman" that's coming from the series, 'Trapped in the Hood', that's being produced and directed by the husband-and-wife duo, Rob and Lucinda Boyd. How is the story coming along and how excited are you about telling your story?

Vernell: I'm very excited! I was a mailman from 1985 to 1995, in Detroit. There's a lot to tell about my experiences. I can't wait for you all to see the finished project.

GrinderZZ: Was the area you worked in the roughest area, when it came to the drug dealers?

Vernell: Actually, no. The west side was where I first started working, as a postal worker, was pretty much cool. Now, the east side was where the majority of the hard dealers

GrinderZZ: You already have three movies under your belt: Rhymes and Reason, in 1996, Make it Rain, in 2008 and the favorite movie, All Eyez on Me, back in 2016. Do you see a future in acting?

Vernell: Why not! I've been in this game a very long time. I'm a humble man. I've been more behind the scenes working with different artists such as DJ Pooh, & etc. If the opportunity is right, yes, I would be honored to do more roles in films.

GrinderZZ: You were present at your son’s Hollywood Walk of Fame, on November 19, 2018.

What was going through your head, at that moment?

Vernell: I was a proud father. It took 27 years for them to recognize my son and his contributions to the Hip-Hop industry. I was there and went through it all, with him; the good, the bad and the ugly. I finally told him, “Start his own record label. Do your own thing. You're an intelligent man.” With that being said, the rest is history.

A Hero with a heart of Gold. An exclusive interview with Memphis Officer,Tina Shaw.

What's your definition of a hero?

Well, a hero to me is when someone takes the Ultimate Sacrifice and goes beyond their powers to help someone in need.

I was so lucky to have come across a beautiful soul who fits that description; Officer Tina, from Memphis Tennessee. Her courageous act saved a young man, who was down on his luck. The GrinderZZ 24/7 Magazine & TV staff is honored to make her acquaintance. Ladies and gentlemen, meet Officer Tina Shaw.

GrinderZZ: Officer Shaw, a big welcome to the GrinderZZ studio.

Thank you for taking time from your daily duties to interview with me. Please tell my audience a little about yourself.

Tina: I’m a native Memphian, born and bred from the Midtown /Evergreen district area, in 1975. I began preschool at Trinity CME Church, where I learned early about compassion, humanity and helping others. In my adolescent years, I attended Vollintine Elementary and Snowden Middle School, whereas I was an active member in the band, (by playing the clarinet) and the dance team. I, also, took piano lessons. I graduated from Northside High (93), whereas I was a member on the track team

and a majorette. I attended Concorde Career Institute (95), for Medical Assistant and I attended State Tech (95), with emphasis of Criminal Justice. I enrolled in the Memphis Police Academy (07), as a PST (Police Service Technician) and I became Officer Shaw (08).

GrinderZZ: You're currently an officer in the Memphis Tennessee area. How long have you been on the force?

Tina: I’ve been on the force for 15 1/2 years.

GrinderZZ: Being an ex-officer, from Brooklyn, New York, I know the job could sometimes be stressful. How do you cope with the everyday hustle and bustle, of being an officer?

Tina: I work out, have therapy sessions, socialize with my girls, light candles, and I walk my two fur fur babies, Tokoyo and Denver (Shih Tzu’s).

GrinderZZ: I was so happy and, actually, shed a tear when I read and saw your story, on Facebook. You're truly a hero and one of God's special Angels. Can you take us back to that day on the bridge?

Tina: That day felt like the sky was falling, out of Memphis. My classmate (Off Redd) was shot, at the library, on the other side of town. Moments later, the suicide call came out, on the Hernando Bridge. It was so chaotic and unbelievable, that day. Everyone was heading towards Officer Redd. By me being a CIT Officer, it was my duty to go and help that young man, in

spite of everything else, that was going on. I said, “LORD, you’ve got Off Redd, but what I can do is go help him. So, once I arrived, the young man was climbing over the rail, as I got closer to him. I told him who I was and I stated that I wanted to help him. He refused me, a couple of times. At that point, he was sitting on the rail, facing the river and crying. I begged him to allow me the opportunity to help him, regardless of knowing me, by trusting me. We talked briefly, about his problems. I saw the fear in his eyes, as he was crying. Once he looked me in my eyes, I advised him that I was coming to him, in which he accepted. I, immediately, went towards him grabbing

one of his legs, bringing it back over the rail and I grabbed his arm and we immediately hugged each other.

We cried and I told him, “Son it’s going to be alright!”

GrinderZZ: I love to see stories of officers who are doing positive things in the community. Recently, you received an award for your heroism. What was that moment like for you, as they called your name out, to present it to you?

Tina: I was shocked and filled with joy at the same time. I was very humbled and shy because my works are finally getting noticed.

GrinderZZ: I constantly tell my friends, and family members, there are still great Police officers, out there, who care about people, and this story is definitely an example of what I've been preaching. How has your family and friends embraced you, for saving this young man's life?

Tina: My family, always, remind me daily, the reason of why I am who I am today, through prayers, hugs, expressing their love for me. My friends are still sending me shout outs, texts and calls.

GrinderZZ: This isn't your first time talking someone down from harming themselves.

Tell us about the older woman you talked down.

Tina: It was very tedious that day. It happened on the old Ark Bridge, whereas it was doing COVID. The call was a suicide female who parked her car, on the bridge. I said a quick prayer, “LORD, if I get her attention, she’s coming down.” She made it over the rail, on the other side, prior to my arrival. The paramedics, on the scene, weren’t able to talk to or reach her. I, and my partner, at the time, approached her. I introduced myself and I immediately felt the connection with her as we began talking. We talked about her financial struggles and a dinner gathering that she had with her sister, prior to that day.

I asked her to allow me the opportunity to help her and I asked her what she wanted at the moment. She said she wanted a cigarette and some gum. My partner recommended us to pray. As we bowed our heads, other officers, on scene, rushed me, pushing me into her, grabbed her and pulled us both backwards causing her to come back over, from the rail, to safety.

GrinderZZ: What advice could you give someone who's reading your interview and thinking about joining the, Police Squad?

Tina: My advice is to be yourself, know your purpose, be transparent for the citizens to see that you’re human, too, and be humble.

My name is Lendrail. I love to bowl, hike, cook/bake and I, also, love to work out.

I'm into traveling, spending quality time with my family, meditation, and spirituality. Learning and reading about other cultures is definitely a big plus, in my life. I'm into the 90's/2000's R&B groove and I love dancing. When I'm able to get some down time, I love to visit a nice grown folks club and listen to some good music, to unwind.

I love enjoying life, peace and serving my purpose by helping others, such as being a listener, giving advice when needed, or sharing my story as an inspiration for others. With that said, God has shown me that my purpose is to become a motivational speaker/life coach, which is what I am currently working towards, as well as becoming a fitness model. The positive energy that I put in will bring many more that I can inspire. I always quote: "You have to rid yourself of negative energy and surround yourself of positive energy" so you can go to the next level of your life. “A Miracle Story” Dontanio Simmons Sr. Talks to GrinderZZ About His Near Death Situation

Every person who enters the GrinderZZ 24/7 studio has a story to tell. I'm fascinated with each one, but this story is a miraculous, Godly one. Meet Dantonio Simmons.

GrinderZZ: Hello there Dantonio!

Welcome to GrinderZZ. Thank you for allowing me to conduct this interview with you. Please tell my audience a little about yourself.

Dantonio: I’m Dantonio Simmons Sr. I was born in Memphis, but was raised in Joliet, Illinois. I am a single father of three very handsome and athletic boys. I coach youth football, in my free time, and just enjoy life, as we call it.

GrinderZZ: When we met, I couldn't believe the crazy trials and tribulations you went through, which makes you a remarkable and blessed human being. Can you please elaborate?

Dantonio: I went through some life changing moments and it still plays in my head, every day. When that car accident happened, I was told that I died on the scene. When they revived me, the first thing I asked for was to see my children. Then, a few minutes later, my kid’s mother said she saw my eyes roll to the back of my head and I died, again.

They were going to give up on me, at the hospital, but I am so happy that they didn’t. God didn’t give up

on me, because I am here for a reason. I was raised without my father. I am thirty two years old and have never seen him before, but I have been in my children’s life, since before birth.

GrinderZZ: Have you, or are you getting therapy?

Dantonio: I did go to therapy but I stopped going because it really wasn’t doing anything for me but making things worse than they already were.

GrinderZZ: You explained to me that your sister was ejected out of the car and you, actually, died twice. What went through your mind when the nurses and your family members told you what happened?

Dantonio: The nurses told my children’s mother that there was nothing else that they could do for me, at that point. I was taken to AUMC. My children’s mother would not let them give up on me. An hour goes by and she said she whispered to me to keep fighting and make it back home, to my children. My sister was ejected from the car and landed in a ditch. The impact from the car flipping sent her out of the passenger side window, where she was sitting. My other best friend was sitting in the backseat, with me. He was sitting behind the driver. When the impact happened, I grabbed my sister by her hair to hold her back and I pushed him back on the seat and I just lost control, when the car started flipping. He had a collapsed lung and fractured ribs. It took us all out of work, for months. Still, to this day, everything is hard for us, to cope with.

GrinderZZ: How is your sister doing, and everyone else who was involved?

Dantonio: My sister, my best friend and I are all doing a lot better but we will never be the person we were before that accident happened but we are trying to go above and beyond the situation that was holding us back.

GrinderZZ: The actual person, who was driving, basically, got away Scott free, but at this very moment, you're still going through some roughness from the crash. How do you deal with it all?

Dantonio: I was told to let go and let God, because taking matters into my own hand wouldn’t be the best outcome, in this situation. Thank God that all the charges, against my sister, were dropped and placed on the driver. The driver lied on my sister and said she was driving. God doesn’t like ugly and what goes around comes back around 10 times harder.

GrinderZZ: What are your plans going forward into the future?

Dantonio: My plans going forward are for me to focus on the bigger picture in front of me which is my children and this 2nd chance at life that was given to me. Im thankful to be writing this to you.

GrinderZZ: Could you give some encouraging advice to someone who may have gone through the same thing you did?

Dantonio: Keep striving for greatness and never let anybody steal what you have from you and that is your life. Live that to the fullest and keep doing things that will make you a better person in life.

Tony Wilson

If you asked Tony Wilson, who's his favorite singer, the answer would be one of the best entertainers of all time. That man is my father n law, The Godfather of Soul, Mr. James Joseph Brown.

Tony is an entertainer who goes by the name, Young James Brown.

Every stage he touches, he brings the house down. Let's talk to Tony Wilson.

GrinderZZ: Welcome, Tony, to our studio! I am definitely excited to have you here. Please tell my audience a little about yourself.

Tony: Thank you for having me in your magazine. I was born in Chicago. I grew up dancing and singing with my sister, Dr. Pamela Wilson and my dancing ambassador sister, Cheryl Woodhouse - Tap Modern Dance Tumbling. I was always at Chicago park districts, straight after school, winning local talent shows, which led me to become Michael Jackson’s 80's Decoy, for three years, through a Don King boxing promoter. It was a way to help me stay away from the street life.

GrinderZZ: At what age did you first become a fan of James Brown?

Tony: In 1965, after watching the Ed Sullivan show.

GrinderZZ: I've seen so many pictures of you, with my father n law. Do you remember the first time you

met him? Take us back to that moment.

Tony: I jumped on the stage with your father in law, James Brown, in 1968. I was ten years old, in Chicago, and I’ve known and loved him every since.

GrinderZZ: When did you first decide to perform as young James Brown?

Tony: After I appeared, and was crowned best Michael Jackson Tribute Artist on the Oprah Winfrey, in 1987. I did all I could, MJ wise. When James Brown was released from jail, in 1991, he invited me to the Lewis pay per view fight, in which I performed in the tent after party, at the Wiltern Theater, on June 10, 1991.

GrinderZZ: Keeping his music and his image alive is totally awesome. Do you travel to different states with your show?

Tony: Yes, we travel to all of the USA states, as well as overseas: Japan, Amsterdam, Sweden, Ireland, Italy and London.

GrinderZZ: Besides James Brown, music wise, who else do you enjoy listening too?

Tony: The King of Pop - Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, The Isley Brothers…any old school Motown Soul Artists.

GrinderZZ: Do you have any upcoming projects that you can speak about on this interview?

Tony: Yes, I am working on a Living in America Tour, in honor of James Brown’s 90th Birthday Year, as well as my Music for Kids project.

GrinderZZ: What advice can you give to someone who's thinking about starting a career in the entertainment industry?

Tony: Never give up. Stay positive, set some goals…small ones, and accomplish them. Never let anyone tell you you're not good enough. Keep living your dreams.
