A Letter From The Editor Hello everyone! Welcome to my world....the world of GrinderZZ. My name is Angie Christine, C.E.O of GrinderZZ 24/7 Magazine & TV. I am a mother, an author, a writer for Fuzionz Magazine/TV, actress and soon to be talk show host of my very own show titled "The Ultimate Surprise Show". When it comes to being a hard worker, I always strive to come out on top.

I decided to create this magazine to applaud and to recognize all of the Grinders across the world who are out there doing their thing. These people come from various backgrounds, work trades, even different religions, but the one thing that makes them all the same is that they are hard workers. It takes a special person to become one. You have to eat, drink, and sleep your skills, your talents, and become that head honcho. An Interview With

Actress Angela Gibbs GrinderZZ stepped into the world of renowned actress, Angela Gibbs. Ms. Gibbs not only gives us a glimpse into her life, but into the entertainment industry, as well. Check out our interview with a lady who wears many hats…

GrinderZZ:Ms Gibbs, I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to do this interview with GrinderZZ 24/7. For those young GrinderZZ who are reading this, and don't know who you are, please let them know a little about yourself.

Ms. Gibbs: I was born in Detroit, the oldest of two brothers. I loved and still do love my home, Detroit. It was great when I was coming up. The Automotive Industry was great, my neighborhood was truly a community and Motown was booming. In fact, the leader of the Four Tops, Levi Stubbs‘ mother lived next door. So, I grew up playing with his children and their cousins, Deborah, Zenobia and Beverly. My grandmother was a respected preacher in Detroit, Rev. Princess Ophelia Kemp, and although I grew up Catholic, it was her Church that I looked forward to going to every Sunday. I started acting when I was in grade school at St. Gregory, in a small school Christmas play. We moved to LA when I was going into 10th grade and that's when I was really hit with the acting dream. I took Drama at LA High and then my mother and I joined a workshop called PASLA (Performing Arts Society of LA).

Of course, I loved the Supremes and the Four Tops.

Now I would be remised not to mention that the Temptations reigned high on the list. In fact, we had a group called the Montegos (the guys) and the Montelettes (me and my girls) and we had dreams of going to the Motown review one day. It didn't happen, but it was a wonderful time in my life.

The Watts riots resulted in funding, going into that area, and we were the recipients of free training. There we met actor Roger Mosley who talked us into joining his workshop at a place called Mafundi. While doing a play there, I was scened by actor/writer Max Julian. He offered me a role in his movie Cleopatra Jones. Roger got me an agent and I was off and running.

GrinderZZ: I'm a smart person, but I never put two and two together on figuring out that legendary actress Marla Gibbs is your mother.

How was it growing up with a talented woman in the household?

Ms. Gibbs: Many people think I grew up in the business, nothing could be further from the truth.

My mother got her break in the business when she was in her mid-forties. Her meteoric rise was truly a result of her innate talent and ability to inhabit a character authentically. She also looked much younger than her years and still does! So, I was in college already, attending Howard University when my mother struck gold. I can say from that point on, evolving as a young woman was definitely impacted by her success. I learned to stay grounded, never forget where I came from and to keep the Creator first always.

GrinderZZ: Being born in Detroit Michigan, I know you have seen a lot of talent come from your area. What music artist were your favorites growing up?

Ms. Gibbs: Yes, Detroit was the mecca for talent.

I was a huge Tami Terrell & Marvin Gaye, as well as, Smokey Robinson fan.

GrinderZZ: Sandford & Son was one of my favorites shows growing up and you were on an episode titled "Party Crasher". How was it like working with the cast, especially working alongside the late Red Foxx?

Ms. Gibbs: Oh my, Red Foxx… How lucky I am to have worked with him. He was like a father figure during that shoot. He gave me advice, loved my work and I felt so confident working with him. Stan Lathan was our director and was so easy to work with. This was my first television job. Fond memories for sure, Foxx was a legend and I remember laughing every day.

Grinderzz: Living in Atlanta, you taught acting in the drama department at Spelman College. How many years were you there and what was that experience like?

Ms. Gibbs:First of all, I love Atlanta and think I'll return there one day to live again. At Spelman, I worked for the then, Department Chair, Professor Glenda Dickerson. She has since passed on; however, her legacy is set in the wonderfully talented students she taught. I ran a project which we named Starteam... and it was a drama outreach program that targeted at risk youth in Spelman's community. We used oral history style interviewing to draw stories from the high school students and the crafted freeze action scenarios based on their stories.

These students were from high schools, boys and girls club and surrounding community centers. The dramas were interactive, the students had a chance of hopping in and helping us solve conflict. The purpose was to use drama to teach critical thinking.

It was a huge successand some of our drama students have gone on to use their art to teach and uplift.

GrinderZZ: Back before 227 was a hit show that starred your mother Marla Gibbs, and the funny Jackie Harry, it was a stage play that you produced.

Norman Lear took notice and decided to make it a TV show. Did you ever imagine 227 ever going that route?

Ms. Gibbs: I certainly did not! 227 was brought to me by our resident director, the late and GREAT

Edmund Cambridge. I convinced my mother to be in it and get the rights when Christine Houston did not give them to the theater. I think because I was so young she didn't trust our theater would know what to do.

Well, she did give them to my mother and the rest is history!

My friend and co-producer, Shay Wafer and I cut our teeth as producers on this play. We merged our community artist with professional artists and magic happened on the stage.

Regina King, who has gone on to be a powerhouse in this business, played one of the roles as a young girl and my mother made sure she came along as her daughter, once the show was developed. Sonya Winton played my mother's daughter and today she is not only my daughter, but one of TV's most successful writers. It helped launch other careers, like Curtis Baldwin and Nia Long, who were also in the play! It just shows how powerful it is when we trust our stories have value. We must be the gatekeepers and preservers of our culture.

I laugh just thinking about him.

Dominique Witten just has to look at you to make you laugh and of course I save the best for last, our icon John "Pop" Witherspoon is comedy Platinum! All of the cast members are like family!

GrinderZZ: In 2004, you were a makeup artist for the Soap Opera "The Bold & The Beautiful. Have you ever done any acting in soaps?

Ms. Gibbs: Nope, that was it! Although, I did have a short run with Bold & Beautiful.

GrinderZZ: I just crack up from laughter when I watch the show "Black Jesus". On that show, you worked alongside the late Charlie Murphy. What was it like working with him and the other cast?

Ms. Gibbs: Oh my, Charlie. How I miss him and how grateful I am to have our scenes I can go back to. Quite the gentleman and a huge talent. He will be missed for a very, very long time. I remember he texted me after binge watching BJ (he was on the road so much he hadn't had time to catch up).

Anyway, he texted me, "Gibbs you killed it!" and as for our scenes together he said, "we played!"

You know that meant and still means the world to me. I absolutely loved working on that show! Slink Johnson truly holds it down as our lead, I so love this man. He really is responsible for me getting on, he said he knew from the first time he met me that I was Ms. Tudi and he advocated for me.

Corey Holcomb, what can I say, I love beating him up, he's a very funny and imaginative talent.

GrinderZZ: Are you currently working on any new movie projects?

Ms. Gibbs: I'm in the movie LOVE JACKED and it's the first time my mother and I star in a movie together. It just was the opening night feature at the Pan African Film Festival and screened to sold out houses, winning the Programmers’ Award-Narrative Feature! The film is a romantic comedy and stars Keith David, Amber Stevens West, Shamiere Anderson, Lyric Bent and Mike Epps to name a few.

Also, you can see me on a new Netflix show called ON MY BLOCK! GrinderZZ: You are the recipient of 2 NAACP Image awards for the theatre production "The Meeting", and the Broadway Play "Checkmates" that starred Denzel Washington, Paul Winfield, and Ruby Dee. What was it like working with these legendary actors?

Ms. Gibbs: I learned so much from each of them. Denzel taught me how preparation and opportunity is the only way to create "luck." His work ethic is

amazing. Paul Winfield taught me compassion and grace and Ms. Ruby encouraged me to get behind the camera, which I am doing. ALL of them taught me to honor my craft as a gift from the Divine, to make good use of it and impact people when and where I can.

GrinderZZ: Ms. Gibbs how can your fans reach out to you?

Ms. Gibbs: They usually find me on social media! @angelaegibbs on all social platforms.

GrinderZZ: Any word of advice you would love to give to someone trying to get into the industry?

Ms. Gibbs: Honor and respect the craft by doing the work. If you love it, and stay consistent, your turn will come. Do not judge your art, just allow it to come through. Do not compare yourself, whether you see yourself as better or not as good as... you lose.

Your gift is your unique humanity that you bring and the work you put in. If you are in it for the money, find something else to do.

GrinderZZ: Any last-minute shout outs?

Ms. Gibbs: Shout out to my mother, Ms. Marla!!! who is my shero and our maverick. To my son, Amil, for always seeing the best in me and for me and keeping me focused. To my daughter, Sonya, who inspires me daily. Shout out to my brothers, Jordan and Dorian, who are always there to support me and finally, my grandchildren, Samuel, Aila and Niadjetey, who remind me what life is really about... Loving and being loved!

Our Flava comes straight from the Bronx. Angel Speed Colon is an American music producer. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Angel is the C.E.O and founder of LiteSpeed Music. He has been producing since ‘86, and has worked with big names in the music industry, such as Whodini, Sugar Ray and the talented group, MTUME. Even during the Corona virus, Angel was still working in the studio. He's a man that never rests. This is why Grinding is his specialty. When it comes to catchy phrases, this man right here takes the cake! Positive K aka Darryl Gibson was born in the Bronx, New York City and ever since he was a teenager, he was set for stardom. From growing up around acts like The Sugar Hill Gang, Run DMC, Whodini, and Grand Master Flash and the Furious 5, Positive K was destined to follow in their footsteps. When, and Busy Bee would ger, he would hang out near Echo Park, Positive K was younGrandmaster Flash where DJ Sinbad, DJ perform and would watch them perform block parties. Positive K was able to display his talents when the group, The Fearless Four, invited him to get on the mic which made him super hyped. Positive K's first break in music came when he was in a rap group with his family, called The Disco Cousins. His rap name was Baby Breeze. Later on, in the years, Positive K became a member of the Five Percent Nation, where he joined the rap group, Almighty God Committee, from Queens. His rap name was changed to Positive Knowledge Allah. Once everyone went their separate ways, he then shortened the name to Positive K. In 1987, Positive K signed to First Priority Music. At the time his big influences were Grand Puba of the Brand Nubians, and Daddy O of Stetsasonic. His 1989 duet with MC Lyte "I'm not Having it" was his first song that got him on the billboard charts. After he left Priority, Positive K crossed over to Island Records, and released the album "The Skills Dat Pay Da Bills in 1992 and released the hit song "I Got a Man". To this day you can hear people walking around chanting the lines...... "Whatcha man gotta do with me." Positive K released more songs and joined other record labels over the years, then decided to take a little break. Positive K then did a huge comeback in 2015, to team up with Greg Nice (Nice & Smooth) to make the hit song "Make it Happen", which they then created an album in 2017. Their album, "Gr8te Mindz", is doing great on the billboard charts, but the album is titled under their name Positive K and Greg Nice. Right now, Positive K is touring across the country with a couple of shows he is performing in Costa Rica, the weekend of June 30, 2018. J. J. FAD Interview McJB: Working with Easy E was amazing! We also were able to hang with him and chill when we weren’t working.

GrinderZZ 24/7 Magazine/Tv had the pleasure of chatting it up with hip hop artist group JJ Fad. They were in town to perform at the Old School hip hop tour that was held at the Orleans Arena here in Vegas on October 21, 2017. I was able to sit down with the ladies before they hit the stage.

Grinderzz: How old were you guys when you first signed on as JJ Fad? JJ Fad: Baby Dee -15, McJB – 21, and Sassy C – 21.

Grinderzz: You guys were blessed to be down with Ruthless Records, and having the late Easy E as your boss. How was it like working with him E, and how was the group first introduced to him?

Grinderzz: There were 3 other members that were in the group that left because of management disagreements…Cash, Shahead, and Lee. Do you guys still keep in touch with them?

Baby Dee: They were never in the group, they were just writers. We don’t know of Cash whereabouts, but they do stay in contact with the others 2.

Grinderzz: When did any of you know you wanted to be in the entertainment industry?

Baby Dee: When I was younger, I would sing the song “Sarah Smile,” and my parents knew I would make it in the business. I used to do a lot of talent shows, as well.

Sassy C: God didn’t put her here for cooking and cleaning…… LOL Grinderzz: You ladies were under the guidance of the one and only Dr Dre. How was it like working with him?

McJB: It was hard, he’s a perfectionist, but we def do owe Dre a lot.

Baby Dee: It was very hard, but it all paid off in the end.

Grinderzz: A lot of our audience didn’t know, but JJ Fad stands for Just Jammin Fresh and Def. Who was the brain child in coming up with the name of the group?

McJB: We all did, everyone had input in choosing the name of the group.

Grinderzz: You guys split in 1992 to come back together in 2009, and now are touring the country with different other artists. How does it feel to be back on the road?

Baby Dee: We never split up. We all started having families. We had children, but our group always remained together.

Grinderzz: Your hit “Supersonic” sold millions and every young teenage girl wanted to be you guys, including me…lol……What was the first thing you all purchased with your first check?

Baby Dee: A car, Jewelry, and a Gucci bag.

McJB: Jewelry.

Sassy C: Jewelry.

Grinderzz: I know you all now have families. Are any of your children following in your footsteps?

McJB: HECK TO THE NO! Right now, my children are star athletes in their schools and I’m very proud of that.

Grinderzz: Can we expect any new music from JJ Fad in the near future?

McJB: Right now, we are having fun doing old school shows, but if the right producer came around, we might consider.

I had a chance to sit down and get candid with Special Ed, the Brooklyn born hip hop artist.

I know you all are hyped to hear what Ed’s been up to, and also reminisce on some old times. Check out my interview: Grinderzz: Mr. Archer, or shall I say Special Ed, tell the world and us here at GrinderZZ 24/7 Magazine/TV a little about yourself.

Special Ed: I was born and raised in Brooklyn New York, alongside of my 4 older brothers.

In 1988, at the age of 16, I recorded my first hit record and album.

Grinderzz: Growing up in Brooklyn, I know you were influenced by a lot different hip hop artist. Who are some of your favorites?

Special Ed: There’s so many, but if I had to name the top ones, they would be Melly Mel, The Sugar Hill Gang, Kurtis Blow, Jimmy Spicer, Run Dmc, and Whodini.

Grinderzz: Back in 1989 you released your album “Youngest in Charge” when you were still in high school. What was that experience like?

Special Ed: Back in 1989, it was a great experience achieving success at that age. I saw things through the same eyes, but I was able to navigate without getting lost.

Grinderzz: Your song “I got it Made” sold a half a million copies. What did you do when you first heard your song on the radio? What was the first thing you purchased with your big check?

Special Ed: It felt really good. It was a sense of accomplishment. When I received my check, I went out and bought a car and 2 Co-Op apartments.

Special Ed Interview (cont’d) Grinderzz: Your songs I Got It Made, Think About It, and The Magnificent were all produced by Hittman Howie Tee. What was it like working with him?

Special Ed: It was a great experience! I learned a lot about production with him, and what it takes to be patient. Howie is a true genuine person.

Grinderzz: I remember watching the episode of the Cosby Show when you played the rapper JT Freeze. How was it like working with the cast? How was it like working alongside of Dr. Bill Cosby?

Special Ed: The cast was great. They all welcomed me with open arms, and showed me a lot of love. Mr. Cosby was cool, as well. It was a great learning experience. He taught me about TV production.

Grinderzz: Your last album in 2004 was titled “Still Got It Made.” Are you currently working on anything new?

Special Ed: I’m always working on music. I may sometimes take a break, but I’m always working.

I have a passion for music.

Grinderzz: You also had a cameo in the movie “Juice”. How was it working alongside the cast, and also working with the great Tupac Shakur?

Special Ed: Hanging with everyone on the set of Juice was cool. I really wasn’t supposed to be in the movie. Tupac was a good friend of mine and he asked me to come and hang with him on the set and chill. Tupac was the one who got me that cameo in the film.

Grinderzz: Rick Ross had you appear in his video, “Magnificent”. Was He inspired by you and your song “Magnificent”?

Special Ed: Absolutely! Rick Ross said it in an interview he had, that it was based on my song.

Everything from the vibes, to the feeling of the song made him want to do it.

Grinderzz: How do you feel about music today, and do you feel lucky to still be involved in it today?

Special Ed: Music has come a long way, and I’ve been fortunate to enjoy doing it for a living, and that’s a real blessing.

Hanging Out With Kendrick Lesane When I say the name Kendrick Lesane, some people will automatically know who I'm speaking about. If you are a huge fan of the late Tupac Shakur, then you will know a little about Kendrick. His mother and Tupac's mother, the late Afeni Shakur, were sisters and the resemblance is uncanny. We here at GrinderZZ 24/7 were very happy to chat it up with Kendrick in Atlanta. Check out our interview:

KENDRICK LESANE

GrinderZZ: Let everyone know a little something about yourself.

Kendrick: I was born Kendrick Lesane, on November 10, 1966, in the Bronx New York. I was born at a time when the revolution was big among black people and having black pride was huge.

Back then, my auntie, the late Afeni Shakur and my mother, who are sisters, helped organized and established the free lunch programs at school.

GrinderZZ: What is the Makaveli group?

Kendrick: It was founded in the early 2000's to produce and to release music that was inspiring. I also reached out to other artist who would love to be a part of this great foundation, as well, but had to shut it down 5 years later because of the way it was going.

GrinderZZ: The rap group you were in... " New York Corporation" consists of you and some of your closest friends, back in the day. How was that? Did you guys perform a lot of places?

Kendrick: Well, right after I was discharged out of the military, I moved back to the Bronx.

We came up with the group and did some performances around the neighborhood.....local stuff, block parties, etc. Back then you couldn't tell us nothing. We wanted to be "dope rappers".

Tupac name back then was MC New York.

GrinderZZ: How growing up?

was Tupac,

Kendrick: Tupac, growing up, was very intelligent, sensitive, courageous, and inquisitive. Tupac had a strong sense of society. He was very strong in the community and always wanted to help everybody.

GrinderZZ: How was Tupac's message?

Kendrick: It was very powerful, because Tupac believed in peace and love. He wanted to see his people treated good and did all he did in the community to make sure everyone was safe.

GrinderZZ: When Tupac was 14 you challenged him and his friend Mouse in a rap battle and you lost...how was that?

Kendrick: Tupac and Mouse blew us out of the park! I was so shocked because he was much younger. His friend Mouse did the beat box, and Pac rapped. They were so dope. I knew at that moment he was going to be a star.

GrinderZZ: Do you have a funny story about Tupac?

Kendrick: Yes, I have one and this actually happened: The last Thanksgiving before Tupac's death, R.I.P cousin, the entire family was sitting in the livingroom watching the basketball games. There were a bunch of the little cousins, nieces and nephews running around the living room and Tupac started to interact with them all. He started taking target practice with the throw pillows from the couch by throwing them at the kids, making them fall. It wasn't hard that they were hurt, it was like, as if they were having a pillow fight, he was just throwing the pillows. We all laughed hysterically because the kids were all falling and rolling around on the floor. That moment in time showed the family and the friends, who were there, what a fun-loving and playful young man he was when it came to the children.

Tupac had love for everyone.

Interviews With GrinderZZ 24/7 Magazine & TV This interview is very special to my heart, because this man's father means the world to me, and I also know he means the world to everyone in the world. I'm speaking about the late Godfather of Soul, James Brown. GrinderZZ 24/7 Magazine & TV was so lucky to land this interview with his son, musician Daryl Brown. Let's find out what's going on in his world.

GrinderZZ: Good afternoon Daryl, and welcome to GrinderZZ 24/7. Please tell our audie n c e a little a b o u t y o u.

Daryl: Thank you for having me in your studio. My name is Daryl Brown, and yes, I am the son of James Brown. I just turned 59 this past September, and I'm a musician/actor. I am currently residing in the state of Georgia

GrinderZZ: At what age did you start playing instruments?

Daryl: Well, when I was 5 years old, I learned to play the guitar, and then the drums. When I turned 7, my father purchased me a drum set alongside of the guitar, and the rest was history.

GrinderZZ: How was it like growing up having the Godfather of Soul as your dad?

Daryl: It wasn't easy. It has its ups and downs, but for the most part, all the kid's tried our best to live and to be as normal as possible. He was James Brown to you guys, but he was just plain old dad to me.

GrinderZZ: How was it like touring with your dad?

Daryl: It was like heaven! It was so great! I didn’t even know I went around the world, twice, until my father's bass player, Mr. Fred Thomas told me that we did.

GrinderZZ: Did you ever get to travel with your dad when you were small?

Daryl: Yes, I did, and it was all fun. I got to watch rehearsals and also in was able to help my dad and his band out with their wardrobe. I was the one that kept their shoes shined clean, and also my Godmother, Ms Gertrude Saunders showed me how to iron. It was a great experience.

GrinderZZ: How were the holidays around your dad?

Daryl: It was great for the most part. My father was a loving man, and he loved his children to death. Now speaking dinner wise, I didn't go to his last wife's dinners when I was invited because she didn’t know how to cook....lol.

Even though my parents weren't together, back before he got remarried years later, my mother would come to my father's big mansion and we would have fun. They were still the best of friends, and my mom would cook up a storm at her house for all of us.

GrinderZZ: What places did you guys perform at that you really had the most fun?

Daryl: When the band and I would go play in Hartford Connecticut, and also at the BB King Club on 42nd Street in New York City on New Year's Eve. GrinderZZ: Your book, My Father, The Godfather, was a best seller. Tell us a little about the book?

Daryl: Well, the book is about my father's life. The trials and tribulations, the good and the bad......being his son was one helluva ride, but the experience was a great experience.

GrinderZZ: You were telling us about a project you were working on. Could you go into depth about it with us?

Daryl: Well my dad was alive, we were working on an album together, but when he passed I fell into a deep depression. I couldn't focus or tried to focus on anything. Now I'm coming back and I know if he was alive, his words to me would be to finish the album.

GrinderZZ: You recently told us about your miniseries you created about the life of your dad alongside with producer Tony Thomas of Multimedia Productions how is that going?

Daryl: Well right now it's coming along great. We already have a lot of different actors and actresses that are well known in the business who will be betraying my mom my father and other counterparts and the life of James Brown. Right now Tony and I are shopping it around to different agencies and networks and seeing who would be the best suitable people to help us bring this project to life.

Magic Coffee Beans Of course, I do love my coffee. It's my eye opening, ear clearing, smile making, happy eye juice that makes me want to pogo stick jump my way through the day!

Coffee is my elixir - it has magical qualities, you know.

I drink the first cup just to wake up my senses - not necessarily the 'common sense' sense - that happens later.

No, the first cup is what helps me believe I'm not in bed anymore. Because, if I was still in bed - well, Magic happened! And my kuerig made my coffee, sprouted arms & legs and boogied into the bedroom with it! Yah - picture that!

I love the way coffee enters my veins - it feels like I'm hooked up to the beans - they really are the magic. They grow up, get picked by special coffee bean pickers, hop on a truck & make their way through all kinds of fun places before I get them. Then - I CRUSH THEM & Grind Them into tiny bits and drown them with hot water. They Love It!!

I know they love it, too. How do I know? Well, after All they've been through they DANCE when I drink them! Yep, they DANCE as they trickle into my veins. That dancing energizes me! I want to dance, too, and I do!

So, yeah, I'm a Coffee Addict. I drink it, inhale it, dream about it & draw it sitting in cool cups waiting for me.

It could be worse....I might be addicted to marshmallows. Hmmmm, that sounds like something fun! :)

I am pleased, once again, to induct this beautiful and wonderful lady as our "Flava of the month." Shenoba Kinsey is an extraordinary author, ghost writer and an all around grinder. IN THE MIX WITH JUNGLE BROTHER’S SAMMY BEE GrinderZZ: What’s up Sammy B, thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to talk to us here at GrinderZZ 24/7 Magazine & Tv. Please, for those youngsters who have never heard of the Jungle Brothers, could you please let them know something about you and the group?

Sammy Bee: Jungle Brothers consist of three members from New York; Mike G (Harlem), Baby Bam (Brooklyn) and myself (Bronx) loving the art of Hip Hop under the tutelage of Kool DJ Red Alert, GrinderZZ: You guys grew up together and even went to the same high school. Who was the brain child of developing the group?

Sammy Bee: While growing up as a teenager, my family resided in Harlem, NY and was a friend of DJ Red Alert. After meeting Red Alert, I went to his house and met his parents and they quickly became family, as well. Red Alert introduced me to Mike G. and Bam. Mike G attended Murry Bergtraum High School. We started doing talent shows together at their high school and Red Alert encouraged us to record at his friend’s house in Brooklyn, and the music began… I must say Bam was the brain child of developing the group.

GrinderZZ stepped into the world of Sammy Bee, a member of the HipHop group, Jungle Brothers. Read what the renowned artist and GrinderZZ chatted it up:

GrinderZZ: What age did you first started spinning and mixing?

Sammy Bee: At the early age of 14, I lived with my aunt on 119th Street in Harlem, and a friend that lived across the street invited me to his house where he had a professional DJ set. I was amazed after he and his brother allowed me to play on the equipment, and the love bond for spinning was created… Shout out to Devon…

GrinderZZ: You guys are the founding members of the "Native Tongue Collective" which has associated acts from De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Black Sheep, Monie Love, and Queen Latifah.

Are you working currently on any new projects with any of these acts, at the present time?

Sammy Bee: At this time, we (Jungle Brothers) are currently working on a new album, so one never knows what can happen…

Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

GrinderZZ: I know you and the group have traveled across the world, performing in different countries. What’s the weirdest thing you had to encounter on the road?

Sammy Bee: The last time I traveled to Manchester, a security guard tapped me on the shoulder in the hotel lobby I was staying in and requested my ID after I returned for the evening. They observed me go in and out of the hotel all day, so it became confrontational; I told him if he

touched me again we will be fighting.

Someone called him to say I was legit…

Stereotypes are real and we definitely have to fight against it…

GrinderZZ: When you were younger, who were the heroes who you looked up to music wise?

Sammy Bee: Back then, there were first generation Hip Hop legends, and my favorite was DJ Jazzy Jay. When Red Alert took me to clubs, I use to watch DJ Jazzy Jay spin. I call him my mentor without him even knowing! Thank you, DJ Jazzy Jay, for being you!!

GrinderZZ: If there’s one person you could work with now, who would that be?

Sammy Bee: Personally, I would like to work with all my Native Tongue family. I think now, with everyone in a good place, we can create history.

GrinderZZ: In May 1997, it was told you had left the group after the release of "Raw Deluxe. Do you still keep in contact with Michael Small (Mike Gee) and Nathaniel Hall (Afrika Baby Bam)?

Sammy Bee: Yes, at that time my mom was ill, and being the only child, I had to stay close to her. It seemed like every time I traveled, something happened with her.

Some of the best years of my life occurred during that time frame; I had 4 beautiful children and met my beautiful wife! I speak to Mike and Bam regularly and we are currently doing shows together.

GrinderZZ: Is there any advice you can give to any upcoming DJs? Sammy Bee: Be original, learn from others, and always remain yourself! Do You! GrinderZZ: Any last words? AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

With Mark Calderon GrinderZZ stepped into the world of Mark Calderon, one of the original founding members of the 90s group “Color Me Badd.”

Continue reading as the singer gives us a little history about the group and talks about his latest single “It’s Like Good Sex.”

GrinderZZ: Wow! Mark, I am so tickled pink to be sitting here with you doing this interview. I am such a huge fan. Please tell my GrinderZZ audience a little about yourself.

Mark: I am an official founding member of the 90s group “Color Me Badd.” We started back in 1984-85 at NW Classen High School in Oklahoma City singing in the hallways and talent shows. We always had a dream of making it to the big stage and so we said chase down the popular ask that work town in sync with them hoping they would give us a big break. It was Kool and the Gang that took us under their wings. After struggling to find a record label that with sign us Giant Records Warner Bros. decided to take a chance and added us to the New Jack City Soundtrack. “I Wanna Sex You Up” our first single ended up taking off and no one saw it coming. After a few years of success and many years of trials we fast forward to 2018 this is when I decided that I wanted to release my first solo single “It’s Like Good Sex” I wanted to write and produce a song that had all of me in it. Dance/Pop/R&B. “It’s Like Good Sex” was released on May 16, 2019, on all formats.

GrinderZZ: Mark, at what age did you know you wanted to be a singer?

Mark: At the age of 9. I was in love with the rock band Kiss and then I was introduced to Michael Jackson.

And the list goes on.. My dad introduced me to the Beatles, and of course growing up in the 80s you had Prince, Stevie Wonder, Kool and the gang and New Edition. Those were a few of my favorite artists.

GrinderZZ: Did you do any talent shows in high school?

Mark: Of course, any talent show’s around OKC we were in and we did well and all of them.

GrinderZZ: You and Bryan go all the way back to high school. Were you guy's doing any singing and performances back then?

Mark: Well, that’s where the group got started. I met Brian in the hallways of Northwest Classen High School and it was there where we formed the group. Bryan bringing in Kevin Thornton and myself bringing in Sam Watters.

The name “Color Me Badd” came from a racehorse. Sam Watters brought it to our attention about the racehorse. We were trying to decide on a good name for the group and we had a few choices, but our manager Myles Sanders pretty much told us that was the name we were going with.

GrinderZZ: Back in the early 90's, I went along with a friend and saw you guys, alongside of singer Paula Abdul in concert and you guy's rocked! Do you ever get nervous at any time before a performance?

Mark: There are some shows I get nervous on but more often I now just really get excited. When you’re so prepared to perform and your confidence level is high, you’re pretty much going out on excitement and wanting to see people enjoying themselves. Seeing smiles on faces is what it’s all about.

GrinderZZ: Back a year or so ago, you and Bryan had a fallout. Are you guy’s now on speaking terms?

Mark: No, I do not speak to Bryan it’s a situation where you have to love somebody from a distance now. I hope he continues with his sobriety and I wish him only the best.

GrinderZZ: You now have a solo career and is constantly touring with other music groups. Do you still feel the love from your fans as you did over 20 years ago?

Mark: Well, first of all, I’m so excited about my new single ”It’s Like Good Sex”. As far as the love from the fans, yes, I feel the love more than ever.

I’m just so thankful that even after 28 years we still get the opportunity to sing these songs.

GrinderZZ: Your new song called, “It’s Like Good Sex” was released on May 16th. Is there a special someone in your life that influenced you into making this song?

Mark: Actually, this song is about good music.

That’s what I’m referring to by singing it’s like good sex. Music is spiritual to me; you’re feeling it in your soul. It can take you places on a trip down memory lane, so when you hear a great song it has ways of moving you....

GrinderZZ: You were, also, recently on The Dr Phil show. Are there any other TV shows or any upcoming concerts the GrinderZZ audience should look out for?

To let everyone know, I will be going out on my own doing shows this year. So, please be looking out for that. I will also be finishing out the scheduled “Color Me Badd” shows this year.

GrinderZZ: What advice can you give to someone who wants to have a career in music?

Mark: Know who you are as an artist, stay persistent, take chances, and be true to who you are, as a person. I would, also, suggest to learn to play an instrument; guitar, piano or whatever will help you develop in being a better artist and remember you may get thousands of no’s, but all you need is one yes. Never give up!

I love searching hi and low for the best talent that's out there, and quickly stumbled onto this awesome DJ. His name is DJ Jevity and, right now, he's one of the hottest DJ's that's out there. Let's talk with Jevity.

GrinderZZ: What an honor, and a pleasure to have you in the GrinderZZ 24/7 studio.

Please, can you tell us a little about yourself ? Where are you from?

DJ Jevity: I grew up in Chicago, Illinois, with my Mom, Grandma and auntie; the Triangle of women who raised me!

GrinderZZ: Growing up, what type of music did you like?

DJ Jevity: I liked all the music, I grew up in that VH1 and MTV music videos before school era. I liked everything from Metal to Gang star to Nsync.

GrinderZZ: When did you decide you wanted to become a DJ? DJ Jevity: DJ Started as more of a hobby in college, would control the music at some parties or Perform as well! After College I decided to buy some turntables and try to DJ at some local bars and have been doing it ever since.

GrinderZZ: Have you worked with any celebrities, and if so, what's that experience like?

DJ Jevity: My Brother is probably the only Celebrity I can say I "worked with ''. It's a Great experience, I've DJed at some amazing places and I get time with my brother. I'm Grateful!

GrinderZZ: You play a mix of hip hop, techno, and dance music. Do you have any music mixes that people can download for their enjoyment?

GrinderZZ: What advice can you give to someone just starting out in the DJ field?

DJ Jevity: Practice, perfect practice and practice perfectly!

GrinderZZ: Any last words/request?

DJ Jevity: Life is a Journey, enjoy the trip!

GrinderZZ: Have you toured outside of the United States, or do you just stay within the US? DJ Jevity: I Have only toured within the United states. I think we will go to Canada later in the year, that will be my first time out of the U.S! GrinderZZ: Have you ever got nervous, or had a bad experience right before a show you were about to do?

DJ Jevity: I get butterflies before every show, I think it's just me hyping myself up cause I really just freestyle when I'm up there, so anything can happen. I have had a few bad experiences before, sometimes you just got to tough up and keep the show going though!

An Interview With Cheryl Song— Former Soul Train Dancer GrinderZZ: Can you please tell my audience a little about yourself?

Cheryl: My name is Cheryl Song. A lot of peo-ple ask me if that is my “stage name” but believe it or not, that is the legal name that I was born with. I remember when I was a child, I used to hate my last name, because the kids in school would call me Sing Song, or ask me why wasn’t my name Cheryl Mu-sic – just silly stuff like that. And I wondered why I didn’t have a name like Smith or Jones (I was in elementary school at the time, and didn’t know the origin of last names). But now I love my last name – because I DO love music, and my name is catchy and everyone remembers it.

I’m one of the few people who was actually born and raised in Los Angeles.

It’s a great city, and I’ve seen so many changes that have gone on both good and bad. I went to a pre-dominantly Asian elementary school, where I was an excellent student – they even let me skip the 5th grade. It wasn’t until middle school and High School (I went to Dorsey High School) where I was exposed to different eth-nicities. But going to Dorsey High school, which was predominantly Black, allowed me to learn how to get along with everybody, which was a great benefit.

GrinderZZ: At what age did you first discover your dancing talents?

Cheryl: Coming from very strict Asian parents, I didn’t start dancing ‘til a very late age. As a child watching TV, dancing was something for the pretty White ladies, not for someone who looked like me. And growing up in the family that I had, we weren’t allowed to speak up or voice how we felt. That was NOT allowed. So I learned how to bottle up my feelings (which was better than getting yelled at for speaking up). But I found out that dancing was a way I could express myself without speaking – and that was my release and probably my saving grace. But it really wasn’t until high school, where I started dancing.

And I loved watching my Black classmates dance, and I wanted to dance as good as them. That’s when I really discovered that I had a knack for expressing myself through physical movement.

I took all the dance classes I could in school, but when I wanted to be a dance major in college, I had such backlash from my par-ents.

My mother TOLD me that I was going to major in ei-ther math or science, but my father told me to do whatever I wanted because I would never be anything anyways.

GrinderZZ: Growing up, what type of music did you like, and who were your favorite artists?

Cheryl: Since my first love was dance, I always gravitated to-wards dance music, anything with a good beat and a promi-nent baseline. Whether it was disco, R&B or pop – if it was danceable – that was my music! Growing up, my favorite artists were The Jacksons and The Temptations – but my favorite artist of all time is and will always be Michael Jack-son. He was the best dancer, second to none, and his music was so incredible – it just made you want to dance.

But now, I do like other types of music and appreciate peo-ple’s artistry more than just “could you dance to it”. I love Whitney Houston, Bruno Mars, John Legend, and even Garth Brooks and Andrea Bocelli.

GrinderZZ: Did people look at you differently because you were an Asian Female with a lot of Soul?

Cheryl: Yes, people DID look at me differently because I didn’t dance like a White girl (laughing). Even in high school, my Black friends said I had “Soul” and I was very proud of that one thing that set me aside from everyone else. I can’t tell you what they nicknamed me, but it was very funny.

GrinderZZ: At what age did you first appear on Soul Train?

Cheryl: When Soul Train moved from Chicago to Los Angeles, they went around to a lot of the Black high schools to find dancers.

Going to the predominantly Black Dorsey High school, I knew some of the students there were dancers on Soul Train. I knew two guys that danced on the show and I saw them looking at me and whispering to each other laughing. Then they came up to me and out of the blue said, “We’re going to bring you on Soul Train” – and I (kind of in shock) said “Okay” – and that was that!

GrinderZZ: How was Don Cornelius as your boss?

Cheryl: Don Cornelius was a very hard man to work for. He was the boss, and everything was done the way HE wanted it. There was no compromising, no meeting of the minds, he was the dictator.

But, in retrospect, this was his baby and it never would have come to being if he wasn’t who he was. You can’t take away the fact that he was an innovator and was one of the first – if not THE first Black person to own his own show on national television. And to have that show outlast any other dance show of its kind is absolutely remarkable.

GrinderZZ: You’ve also toured with the late Michael Jackson, and was featured in the Beat It video, and also worked with the late Rick James. Was there a hard auditioning process to work with either mega superstar?

Cheryl: Actually, I did not have to audition for either Michael Jackson or Rick James.

For Rick James’ “Superfreak” – I got a phone call from

one of the other female Soul Train dancers named Leslie. She told me that they wanted me to be in a Rick James video, gave me the date and location and it was as simple as that. When I got there, Rick James was telling jokes throughout the entire shoot and had everybody in stitches. Rick and I sort of ran around in the same circles, so he knew who I was and immediately started kidding around with me the minute I got on the set. He was so great to work with, and if he wasn’t a musician, he definitely could have been a comedian.

Michael and I knew each other, and I had worked with him on several other occasions. We had several conversations over the phone. He would call me and tell me what he wanted or what he needed, and I would facilitate that. One time he called me because he wanted to learn how to do what was called at the time – the “Backslide”. He was very insistent about it and I told him not to worry, that I would find him the right people to teach him. That became what is now known as the “Moonwalk” and I am so proud to have been responsible for that. I went to visit him while he was filming “Billy Jean”.

After that was done, he called me and wanted me to find him dancers for “Beat It”. I set up the audition for him, and while I was on the set for “Beat It”, he put me in the scene at the bar where the gang members are called away for the rumble. A lot of people don’t know this, but in my scene where my gang-member boyfriend and I are sitting at the bar - hewas just supposed to get up and join the other guys. But right when they were shooting the scene, he grabbed my hair, pulled my head back and kissed me.

Everyone was shocked when that happened, but they decided to keep it in the video.

GrinderZZ: I also write for Fuzionz Magazine, and so excited that I was able to interview you on the red carpet of the 2016 Soul Train Awards.

How does it feel to still be recognized?

Cheryl: Honestly, I am still amazed when I get recognized. I mean, I am truly flattered and absolutely humbled because I left the show in 1990, which was 30 years ago! But to be recognized today is a Blessing, and I feel so fortunate that Don Cornelius allowed me to

GrinderZZ: Are there any new projects coming up that you’re able to speak about at this present time?

Cheryl: Yes Angela! I have a special project in the works. I can’t tell you much more, because the legalities are being finalized as we speak. But it is a brand new venture for me, and I can’t wait until it hits the ground!

GrinderZZ: What advice can you give to someone that’s starting out in dancing?

Cheryl: Be yourself – but be the best YOU that you can be. Practice and train until the movement flows through your body without you having to think about it. But nowadays, things are done very differently. It used to be, you would have to go to a live audition, where they would teach you a routine and choose who they wanted. But now, people put themselves on Tik Tok or Instagram, or they market themselves and the next thing you know, they’ve got a million fol-lowers.

GrinderZZ: How can fans reach out to you?

GrinderZZ: Cheryl, at this time do you have any last words/shoutouts you’d like to give?

Cheryl: I would just like to say Thank You to all the fans of Soul Train who have opened up their hearts to me and accepted me as the first Asian dancer on the show. I never in a million years thought I would receive such love. And I do not take it for granted. I appreciate everyone’s thoughtfulness and kind comments. I’ve been through some tough times, but the love I have received from everyone has made it all worth it – so Thank You!!!

Lou Rawls Jr. - On The Grind When you hear the words, "YOU'LL NEVER FIND, ANOTHER LOVE LIKE MINE", the first thing that should come to mind is, the talented lyrics of Lou Rawls.

Even with his departure from earth, his spirit and his music still lives on. I am so happy to have caught up with his son, producer/executive/actor, Lou Rawls Jr. Mr. Lou was so gracious to answer my call from his busy schedule to have a one on one sit down.

GrinderZZ: Hi Mr. Lou! Thank you for hanging with me today inside the GrinderZZ studio. Can you please tell my audience a little about yourself?

Lou: Hello! First, thank you for having me in your great publication. I’m very fortunate to be healthy in these crazy times of the Corona 19 virus, and in the age of Trump, (which is a whole other subject) and to anyone who has lost a friend and or family member to this pandemic, I’m so sorry.

GrinderZZ: Your father was a legend, the great Lou Rawls. How was it like having him as your dad when you realized who he was in the entertainment industry?

Lou: It was great, but like all families, we had our disagreements at times. I really didn’t know how famous he was until I went on the road with him. He was gone a

lot of the time while I was growing up, but we did have quality times together.

GrinderZZ: I see you went a different direction from your father's and started doing films. How proud was he of you?

Lou: Actually I was in a band with Marvin Gaye’s son, and we were signed to Capital Records, but at that time, Capital had dissolved its black/urban division and then the band split up before we could get another deal. My father was very proud of me, and the fact I did it on my own without coming to him for help.

GrinderZZ: Growing up, did you ever go out on the road with your father?

Lou: Yeah, it was incredible! One time we did 36 one nighters in 41 days, and I had to be called Eyes by everyone who worked for my father. My dad’s fan base was very broad.

Black, White, Hispanics, Asian and Indian

people. He actually opened several Native American casinos and 5 hotels in Las Vegas. People would follow me, and sometimes it was overwhelming and difficult to understand how his music affected people, and the lengths they would go to reach him. After You’ll never find came out, he was one of the biggest stars in the world! Natalie Cole, Jay Leno, The Pointer Sisters, Arsenio Hall, and Tina Turner were all my father’s opening acts.

GrinderZZ: You did a couple of great movies, Ethyrea: Code of the Brethren, Love is a Hurting Thing and Double Tap in 2011. Are you currently working on anything you could speak about with my audience?

Lou: I’m producing films, working on music, and I’m an ambassador for a great company. The company is Deberger & Bears out of Switzerland, and they make and sell incredible time pieces, and also selling Masterworks from the most famous and well known painters in the world Picasso, Da Vinci, Van Gogh, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, the most beautiful and expensive, Pink, Blue, and yellow Diamonds and precious stones in the world. The Covid virus like everything else, has affected all of these industries. Hopefully in the near future, things will get back to normal, so I’m very excited about the future.

GrinderZZ: Tell us how things are going with the Lou Rawls Foundation?

Lou: The foundation, right now, is dormant and restructuring the board of directors, but we’ll be back up

and running in the very near future, and very much looking forward to getting back to helping the community at large.

GrinderZZ: With Hollywood and the entire world being lockdown because of the pandemic, Covid 19, how have you been keeping busy?

Lou: I’ve gotten into the world of Gaming and Technologies. V R. Holograms, a company called Weisman worldwide Inc. This pandemic has really affected all facets of business, and the lives of everyone. I’ve been putting together a list of contacts and connections to reach out to with these new opportunities. I’ve been blessed. When this pandemic allows the world to find some sort of normalcy and people can get back to doing things again, I’ll be really busy.

GrinderZZ: What advice could you give to someone who maybe thinking about getting into the music or movie industry?

Lou: Learn the business, it’s called Show Business for a reason! it’s critical and crucial to know what you’re getting into, especially now with all the different streaming platforms, and social media outlets that are available. The entertainment industry is a totally different animal than it used to be.

GrinderZZ: Name 3 celebrities you would love to collaborate on a project with.

Lou: Hmmm, that’s an interesting question. For music, it would be Pharrell, Al Pacino for Films, and Bill Gates.

GrinderZZ: How can the fans reach out to you?
