A Letter From The Editor Hello everyone! Welcome to my world....the world of GrinderZZ. My name is Angie Christine, C.E.O of GrinderZZ 24/7 Magazine & TV. I am a mother, an author, a writer for Fuzionz Magazine/TV, actress and soon to be talk show host of my very own show titled "The Ultimate Surprise Show". When it comes to being a hard worker, I always strive to come out on top.

I decided to create this magazine to applaud and to recognize all of the Grinders across the world who are out there doing their thing. These people come from various backgrounds, work trades, even different religions, but the one thing that makes them all the same is that they are hard workers. It takes a special person to become one. You have to eat, drink, and sleep your skills, your talents, and become that head honcho. I know you all will be very pleased at reading the different interviews and articles inside this special magazine. I would also love your feedback. An Interview With

Kim Fannin When I was living in Las Vegas, I had the pleasure of working with beautiful and talented lady at, Vacation Village resorts. I was also intrigued when I found out that she's also an actress. Kim also writes for GrinderZZ as our, "Blog Lady" who constantly keeps us laughing. Let's talk to Kim. GrinderZZ: Hi there Kim! I'm so pleased to be doing an interview with. For those who don't know you, tell the audience a little about yourself?

Kim: Well, I guess I'm like an old Bohemian, modern-day hippie who believes in love peace happiness laughter and flip-flops. To me, those are the best shoes in the world.

GrinderZZ: I had so much fun working with You. During the past 5 years, in Las Vegas and When you told me you were, also, an actress, I Nearly lost my mind! Tell us, where do you perform and what's the name of the company?

Kim: I live in Sun City Summerlin, so I perform at the Starbright Theater, here in Sun City. It is a gorgeous 350 seat theater. And the name of our group is the Sun City Community Theater.

GrinderZZ: Tell us about some of the plays you were in.

Kim: Gosh, if I started from the beginning you'd get bored. But, I will say I've done some pretty interesting plays. I performed in Canton, Ohio before moving here.

The last show I was in was called The Butler, where I played a female detective who thought she was like 007. Before that, I was Frenchy in Grease, a grandmother who collected snakes in You Can't Take It With You and, oh, so many others! And I just auditioned for a role in CHICAGO! GrinderZZ: Have you ever done any TV? Kim: No, but I think it would be fun to do commercials or cartoons.

GrinderZZ: Please tell us about new business.

Kim: Well, when our office closed, I decided I may as well just retire. I was old enough and it was fun for a couple of months, then I got bored.

The Theatre was closed, due to the pandemic, so I started my own art website. I've painted for years, so this sounded like a good idea.

GrinderZZ: I've bought a few items from you and people rave about them, when they visit me in Augusta. How long does it take for you to do a painting or a mug?

Kim: Thanks! It depends on the painting - some I've painted in 30 minutes, others can take days. The mugs have pictures of my paintings or doodles on them. I order from a company who makes them for me. I paint everything from clocks on vinyl records, canvas totes, wall art, mugs, etc

GrinderZZ: How have sales been for you?

Kim: Not bad. I mean, I don't think I'll ever get rich, but I'm having Fun. What I sell, gives me money for more supplies and, maybe, lunch out with a friend.

GrinderZZ: Covid struck a bad nerve in the entire world. How were you able to cope with all the madness?

Kim: I was blessed to spend that time with my soulmate, Steve. We had a blast finding things to do, in a city that was pretty much shut down.

Before I start this interview, I need to say a few words about this group. When I say, FAMILY STRONG, these loving, beautiful beings take the cake. I've adored this group ever since they first stepped out on the scene in the early 80's. This brother's and sister's group has been entertaining the world with so many top hits, that it's hard to choose a favorite. They've been my favorite 80's group, and to this day, they still hold a special place in my heart. Ladies and gentlemen, I introduce to you........

GrinderZZ: Good evening to you Moana and the gang! Welcome to the GrinderZZ studio. For those who are young, can you tell my fans a little about yourself and the group?

Moana: Aloha, my name is Moana and I am the youngest member in The Jets. I have been married going on 23 years and am blessed with 6 children. These days I stay busy raising our kids and being a taxi (lol), supporting my kids sports events and home school a few of them, too. We still perform as The Jets and I have had the opportunity to produce other artists and co-write a lot of songs with my husband Junior.

GrinderZZ: At what age did you all started singing, and knew you wanted to be in the entertainment industry?

Moana: After our family decided to do music I was pretty much a part of the group since I was about 5 years old. I guess you could say, I was born into it in a sense. We became The Jets when I was 10. I have always enjoyed being with my family doing music it was the only thing I ever knew was entertaining.

GrinderZZ: Touring overseas I know is probably exciting.

What's the weirdest or craziest thing a fan has done to get close to you guys?

Moana: We loved visiting other countries. It’s still shocking to me that they know our music and are familiar with our group. They were always so loving and respectful.

GrinderZZ: I find you all fascinating. You're family are from the island of, Tonga. We're any of you guy's born over there?

Moana: Our parents immigrated to America in 1965 with our oldest brother Leroy who was only a few months old. The rest of us were born in America.

GrinderZZ: Growing up, what genre of music did you all listen to and who were you all’s music idols?

Moana: The Jacksons and Earth, Wind and Fire were most definitely at the top of the list. Elvis Presley, The Osmond’s, The Commodores, Midnight Starr… .

Our fans would give us the sweetest gifts. Photo albums, tshirts and jewelry and keepsakes. We always tried our best to write them back and respond to them. There was a phone number at the end of our “Private Number” video. It was our office number and fans would call and when we were in the office we would randomly answer calls and fans would go nuts. We loved talking to them.

In fact, I became pen pals with 2 girls who were my age from Minnesota. We were all 12 years old. We ended up meeting up on different occasions and became real friends. We have remained friends for over 30 years. Many fans have become good friends of ours.

GrinderZZ: I was so excited to see you all at the, Love Affair concert in Vegas year's back, and also at a outside concert in California in 2019. After that, the world started shutting down with the covid issue's. How did the group cope with not performing anymore?

Moana: Like everyone else, it was difficult to lose work but so many of us flipped it and made that time off become real time out for family. We took a lot of road trips, went camping, we grew a huge garden and had a awesome harvest. We went back to basics and loved the time out.

GrinderZZ: Now that everything started gradually opening back up in the world, do you guy's have any upcoming overseas concerts?

Moana: We are working on some shows in the Philippines, Guam and hopefully New Zealand and the South Pacific.

GrinderZZ: What advice can you give to someone that maybe looking to start a singing career?

Moana: That’s a tough one.

Music is the passion that we all love but the “music business” can be brutal. It took its toll on our family and almost split our family up for good. Stay close to your family and your close friends. Don’t lose them.

They are your anchor.

They will keep you grounded. Enjoy the music but once it starts taking you to a dark place where you don’t feel right, take a time out and keep God at the center of your life. A lot of folks compromise their principles for fame and fortune and end up losing their souls in the process. It’s not worth it.

GrinderZZ: How can fans get in touch with the group?

Moana: We are about to launch our new website called jetsmusic.com with our concert schedule and an online store with music, booklets and t-shirts as well. Our focus this time is simply family first. MEET Teanna PROFESSIONAL MAKEUP ARTIST

TEANNA - PROFESSIONAL MAKEUP ARTIST

If you're looking for a great makeup artist, then Teanna is your lady. This young lady hails from the city of, New York, Brooklyn to be exact, so you know I had to add her to the mix. Let's chat it up with Teanna.

GrinderZZ: Hey girl, thank you for coming to the GrinderZZ studio. Please let my audience know a little about yourself.

Teanna: Hey everyone well thank you for having me, my name is Teanna , my brand is called Tinkahasclass , I’m 25 years old, currently living in Newnan GA and I’m so excited for this opportunity.

GrinderZZ: How long have you been doing makeup?

Teanna: For a total of 6 years now, I started just doing eyeshadow and lipstick but then it became a passion and I wanted to learn in depth how to properly prime and do a full face of makeup without looking too heavy.

GrinderZZ: Do you do the combo of, makeup and lashes, or just makeup?

Teanna: Yes I offer all strip lashes with all makeup services , I do not do individual lashes, working on getting my certification for that.

GrinderZZ: Have you ever worked with any celebrities, or any upcoming stars?

Teanna: I strive for black excellence so I may not have worked with tv celebs but I’ve worked with everyday heroes from doctors, lawyers, real estate agents, business owners so I just had to give a shout-out to the black community, I see you.

GrinderZZ: Do you see a big future with yourself as a makeup artist?

Teanna: Most definitely, I would love to branch out onto other ventures like tattooing and spa services but I would love to be known for my soft makeup skills.

GrinderZZ: Besides working with minority women, do you also provide services to non-women of color?

Teanna: I love my women of color but yes I work on all skin colors so they do not have to scared lol I would moved fair skin clients to build my portfolio.

GrinderZZ: If there was a celebrity you could work for, who would that celebrity be and why?

Teanna: Rihanna, if you see this somehow, baby I would love to collab with you and Fenty Beauty it would be a dream come true.

GrinderZZ: As you already know, the industry has a lot of competition. What advice could you give to someone who may be looking to become a makeup artist?

Teanna: The advice I would give to up and coming makeup artists is to not quit, even when you feel like your not where you want to be keep going and stay up to date on all makeup trends, build a good rapport with your clients and enjoy what you do.

GrinderZZ: If someone is interested in your services, how could they reach you?

Interviews With GrinderZZ 24/7 Magazine & TV When I met this beautiful lady, I was driving across country from Vegas to Augusta, Ga. She was so hilarious. I just had to get her into the studio. Let’s talk to Clarissa.

GrinderZZ: Finally, I got you in the studio!

Welcome! Can you please tell our audience a little about yourself ?

Clarissa: My name is Clarissa Medders, but Cissy is for short. I was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, and came from an Air Force family. My Dad spent 22 years in the military prior to retiring.

My Mom was a stay-at-home housewife taking care of the home front, while my Dad was at work or on overseas assignment. We moved quite frequently so it was hard to make friends for any length of time in the beginning. We've lived state side and overseas. We traveled to European countries such as Germany and France when we live in England, but we were quite young, and don't remember it.

Once my dad got assigned to Berkstrom AFB on the out skirts of Austin, Texas, we planted roots and stayed while he did his overseas assignments, until he retired. I love comedy, action packed, murder mystery and other type movies. I write poetry, love music, and I’ve always love to dance, taking pictures, the beach, and good seafood. Oh yeah, I do have a wicked sense of humor.

GrinderZZ: You were born in Shreveport, Louisiana, but your childhood was in another state, Del Valle, Texas to be exact. Did you and your family ever go back to your hometown to pay a visit?

Clarissa: Yes, my parents have visited several times since we moved from Texas. My sister and I have been to see old friends, went back to old stomping grounds and we have revisited Louisiana. To be honest though things have changed so much that it's never like you remember it. It's sad because you feel like you've lost a part of yourself, but you'll always have the memories. The friends you hung out with during the summer months, the laughs you shared, the mischief you got into, trying to avoid getting your behind tore up and a whole lot of other things that a young person experience. We were able to get onto the Barksdale AFB where Dad was stationed. It brought back a few memories and the President was there that time. Truly an awesome time!!!

GrinderZZ: You beat the odds with an illness that doctors once told you that you wouldn't live past a certain age. Could you tell us a little more about it?

Clarissa: On my 20th birthday, I was in the hospital in Valdosta, Ga. when I was diagnosed w/ MS. I was later told that I might not live to see my 30th birthday and that I shouldn't make any plans for marriage, children, or anything else.

Today, I can say that I have beat the odds. I'm 62 years old, married for almost 18 years, had children and have lived a pretty good life for the most part. Yes, there have been peaks and valleys, but I have been blessed. My son turns 40 years old today and my daughter who was born on Mother's Day will turn 36 this May. I divorced in February 1998 due to domestic violence. I am a Domestic Violence survivor.

Most don't make it out of that situation and I'm only one voice but can tell you it is "Truly a living nightmare and hell" for anyone who has endured it.

After living 26 years in Georgia, I decided it was time for a new chapter and new beginning. I decided after visiting Nashville, Tennessee that I was going to begin there. I loved being here so much that I have now made it home for 20 years. In November 2002, I was working at a travel agency at the time, my friend and I decided to head outside to take our break one evening. We were talking and not paying attention when I stepped onto a broken piece of flooring, twisted my angle and took a fall. They had not portioned the floor off to prevent an accident from happening and the bottom line is that this fall would change my whole life.

I would have never suspected that I would come to know that my MS diagnosis was a misdiagnosis. I didn't have MS at all instead I found out that it was tumors that had caused all prior health issues (i.e., burning sensation in my left leg, not being able to walk, barely able to stand, etc.). This news came in the winter January 2008. There was a surgery, which were successful.

Insurance supposedly changed by the time a partial tumor which sat on my spinal cord had decided to try and wrap itself around my spinal cord. There was no way to prepare for what came next and what would begin another chapter of my life. A new doctor, another surgery that would require my spinal cord to be opened, the removal of the remaining tumor and discovering I couldn't and wouldn't be able to walk again. Yes, the doctor seemed to be disturbed when I showed up for a follow-up appointment that he requested two weeks after my surgery. He stated that by all accounts I should be able to walk and then went on to tell me “He wasn't God."

Wow, not the attitude or words from who swore an oath "to do no harm."

I have been paralyzed for 14 years and left in a wheelchair because of someone else's arrogance. Yes, it was a hard pill to swallow because your whole life is turned upside down.

You now must figure out what your life is going to look like from here on out. How am I going to live, what's life going to look like from a short person's perspective and so forth.

Now that I have been in this wheelchair I kind of know how it feels to some degree what they endure, but even through all of it I am truly blessed each to wake up, open my eyes, live to see another day and enjoy the blessings given each day.

GrinderZZ: When your sister introduced Daryl, and I, to you, we both fell in love with you because of your humor. I kept telling you that you needed to go into comedy. Does it still cross your mind to try and branch out into the entertainment business?

Clarissa: I still haven't lost my sense of humor after all of this but getting me on stage w/ a crowd.... Well, I'd have to be half lit, which wouldn't take much for me. I can get tipsy off a bottle cap... LOL Secondly, I don't believe that I'm that comedic and I'd have to be pure nuts to even want to try and attempt something that crazy/ludicrous 😅 , but you never know, stranger things have happened. I could change my mind.

Get Tyler Perry to offer her a part in one of his crazy Madea movies and see what she would do...she could be persuaded quickly, I bet...🤣 🤣

GrinderZZ: You're so blessed that, you attended Chelly Wright's documentary, "Wish Me Away," and walked the red carpet at the Nashville Film Festival on April 15, 2011. Wow, that's, also, my mother’s birthday, RIP Mommy. How excited were you that evening?

Clarissa: "Oh, my Goodness, oh, what a night!!!" This was an awesome experience to walk a red carpet, hangout with celebrities and end up in Country Weekly magazine with one of my all-time favorite singer Rodney Crowell...speechless and so excited that night. It didn't seem real, but it was so very real, and I love Chelly Wright to. It’s a night I want, soon, forget.

GrinderZZ: You also appeared in "The Boot" Country Weekly magazine. When were you approached about being a part of the magazine?

Clarissa: I was approached about being in "The Boot" Country weekly magazine the night that myself, my sister and several friends attended Chelly Wright's documentary, "Wish Me Away." One of Chelly’s closest friends Rodney Crowell was in attendance that night. I couldn't resist trying to my picture taken with him.

I sent my sister over to ask him if it would be possible and he was very accommodating. He came over, introductions were made, and he was just as humble as he could be. Once the photographers saw him sitting on the arm of my chair they began snapping away. Afterwards they asked me my name and asked for my address. They couldn't tell us if I would be in the magazines but wanted the information just in case.

What were your first thoughts?

Shocked that they were wanting my information and that there was a possibility that little ole me might be in the magazine...absolutely hell to ta yeah girl!!!

GrinderZZ: You and your family are also great friends with country singer Rodney Crowell. A picture you took with him ended up in that magazine. I know you were the talk of the town. How many copies did you get?

Clarissa: Yes, at first, I thought it was a practical joke being played on me. You know paybacks for all the ones I'd played over the years. My sister had to tell what page to turn to in the magazine and even had to point it out because I didn't catch it.

I can't put into words the wave of emotions running through at that very moment. You just had to be in that moment.

How many copies did you get? My sister bought up 50 copies and brought them to me.

Did you sign them and them out to people?

Yes, I did sign them and gave them out to family and friends.

GrinderZZ: I know you are still having issues with getting around, that you have a wheelchair to assist you. Do you have any encouraging words you can tell someone who maybe on the verge of giving up?

Clarissa: Life sometimes has a way of throwing you "Curve Balls" when you least expect it, and you may fall as I have many times. The question you must ask yourself is...how many times are you willing to get back up? There were many times I didn't think I had the energy to get back up, but eventually I found the determination and a stubbornness to get back up and go again. Never give up or in. Rely on God to

GrinderZZ: How can people reach out to you?

Clarissa: They can reach me through you. I would love to hear from folks and hear their stories. I'd like to provide words of encouragement to others if I can.

I’m just glad to be a blessing to others, if I can, who read this story.

GrinderZZ: Do you have any last words or shout outs you would like to give, at this time?

Clarissa: I'd like to give a huge thanks my sister who has been there through thick and thin, laughter and tears. For the love, memories and so much more that I hold close to my heart. Thank you to God who has given us a close sisterly friendship and love for one another. Thank you to family and friends who have been there from the very beginning and stood beside me and love me unconditionally for who I am.

Thank you to my "Homecare Nurse" Ms. Cindy Rodgers whose helped me for the last year or so with medical issues. For always having my back, provided support, compassion and just being a Godsend to me.

Her magazine, Fuzionz, has been out over 10 years and she interview's all of the hottest celebrities on earth. Her magazine is so hot that she's been on the red carpet several times for different music award shows; from the Soul Train Awards, to the Stellar Awards, to the SAG Awards, just to name a few. Shenoba has done it all and this is why she's nominated for the second time as GrinderZZ 24/7 Magazine's "Flava."

An Interview With Roosevelt Johnson The Man With The Plan GrinderZZ: What an honor, and a pleasure to meet you sir. Welcome to the GrinderZZ studio. Please tell my audience a little about yourself.

Roosevelt: My name is Roosevelt RJ Johnson. I was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on March 25, 1952. I was the youngest of seven children; five boys and two girls. Four of the boys and one of the girls have passed on, so it’s just me and my sister left. My sister, Dorothy, is living here in Cleveland, also.

When we hear the name, James Brown, we automatically start dancing, while trying to imitate his singing. James Brown is the most sampled artists on the planet, and he was loved by so many. Roosevelt Johnson is one of those individuals. Mr. Johnson toured around the world with Mr. Brown and his band, and loved every moment. Check out our interview with Roosevelt.

GrinderZZ: At what age did you say to yourself, you wanted to be involved in the entertainment industry?

Roosevelt: I only wanted to be a disc jockey, like we had on our local radio station, here in Cleveland, WJMO. I thought those guys were the greatest. So, when I met one and hooked up with him, I decided I wanted to become a DJ, just like him and nothing more. I thought that was the greatest job in the world. Boy was I in for surprise.

I was about 12 or 13, when I started meeting stars from that era, like Jackie Wilson, Marvin Gaye, Dionne Warwick, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Gladys Knight and the Pips and the Temptations. I really got star struck and seeing these guys hanging out with all these beautiful girls and stuff, I wanted to be like them, instead of like the DJs who were playing their records. That made more sense to me, but I never wanted to be on stage singing and dancing, so I had to try to figure that out how I could get the girls, like Smokey and Marvin, if I couldn’t sing and perform like them.

Then I figured it out, if you hang out with them they’ll come to you, anyway. So, that’s what did it; pretty girls got my attention and I got theirs and there you have it. I weaseled my way into Show Business.

Roosevelt JohnsonInterview

GrinderZZ: How did you first link up with, The Godfather of Soul?

Roosevelt: I, first, met Mr. Brown when the DJs, at the radio station, we’re going to pick him up, at the airport, in Cleveland. I went along with them, for the ride, not knowing that’s what they were going to do. As soon as we met, we hit it off. I was an amenable kid and he appreciated that. The entire story is in my book Holding the Coat because that was the first job he gave me; holding his coat.

He paid me $40 for doing that and I thought I was rich. I was about 14 or 15, at the time, and I bugged him until he gave me a job, after I got out of school and the rest is history. From that moment on our relationship blossomed until the day he passed away.

GrinderZZ: You're quite the singer, and I've watched dozens of video's of you performing with Mr. Brown on stage. What was the reaction from your family when you told them you were now a part of James Brown's band?

Roosevelt: The reaction from my

family when you told them you were now a part of James Brown's band?

Roosevelt: The reaction from my son and my daughter and their mom and a lot of my relatives was pretty strange. I guess they never expected me to do the things that I was doing.

I had tried to tell him about my past, in the music business, and I only had a few photos to show any reference to it. So, when it finally took off again, with Mr. Brown, full time, they were really shocked that I had this close relationship with him and we had resumed everything like nothing ever happened; which nothing ever happened, except I got a little older and had kids. He Got Disco came out and they kind of slow things down for him, but he always made sure we stayed in touch and he always sent me a few dollars to do things with Zell. My kids knew and my family knew that I had a friend in James Brown.

GrinderZZ: You've traveled around the world with Mr. Brown, and my question is...... what's the craziest thing a fan try to do to get close to you guys and even, Mr. Brown?

Roosevelt: The craziest thing anyone did to get close to Mr. Brown, I would say, is when we were at the Peabody Hotel, in Memphis, Tennessee, outside of the front entrance and a young white girl, I say, she was like 18 or 19 years old, walked up to him and just grabbed

his butt cheeks and said she had to do that.

It shocked him so bad that he didn’t even know what to say. He couldn’t do anything but laugh, as we all did, but she had both hands full of his butt cheeks. That was crazy.

GrinderZZ: Speaking with James son Daryl, he said his father always wanted everyone to order and eat what he ate when dining out. Did you ever go through that with him?

Roosevelt: Normally, when we went out to eat I ate what I wanted, because a lot of things he ate, I did not eat; such as seafood.

It’s that simple. “ shrimp and I didn’t do fish, so I, basically, ate whatever I wanted, on the menu. I never had to eat the same thing that he ate. There were times when he would eat what I would eat. If I wanted ribs maybe he would order some, cause he hadn’t had any, in a while. But, no one was ever made to eat the same thing that he ate. I never encountered that, at all. Maybe, they did it because they thought it was the proper thing to do, but I ordered what I wanted, all the time.

have you, or are you still performing?

Roosevelt: After his passing, in 2014, I put his band back together, with the majority of the members I could collect and the singers, the Bitter Sweet. We performed in France. We did one hell of a tour. Then, we went to Japan.

Then, we went back to Japan, for a New Year’s Eve gig and we haven’t worked since. I don’t know exactly why we can’t get booked, but we are still willing to perform, anywhere in the world. If they want to see the real James Brown Band and RJ, I’m ready, the band is ready, the singers are ready. Tell the promoters to get ready, cause we do want to work, any and everywhere. Just get in touch with me. It’s very easy to do.

GrinderZZ: What advice could you give to someone who might be thinking about a career in singing?

Roosevelt: My advice to someone thinking about getting into a career and singing, never record a song you can’t play for your mother or your grandmother. It’s that simple.

Singer - Anthony Jones

This next artist, I am truly honored to speak with, because the way I found him was through someone on Facebook sharing his video. Singer, Anthony Jones, was recorded singing his heart out and playing his guitar one day right outside of a Walmart store.

The caption read, "No he isn't homeless, he just wanted to put a smile on people's faces.” Well, Anthony definitely did put a smile on my face and thousands of other spectators on Facebook. Ladies and gentlemen, here he is.............Anthony Jones.

GrinderZZ: Good evening, Anthony, and welcome to our GrinderZZ Studio. Please tell my audience something about yourself.

Anthony: Well, my name’s Anthony Jones (Tony Jonez) and I’m an Actor, Singer/Songwriter Musician just out here trying to make the world a little brighter one day at a time.

GrinderZZ: How long have you been singing?

Anthony: I’ve been singing ever since I can remember. I grew up in a household where music was a part of everyday life, and my mother was always singing.

GrinderZZ: The video of you singing has been shared and has thousands of hits.

What went through your mind when you found out you become an overnight celebrity?

Anthony: It was definitely a pleasant surprise! I was honestly overjoyed that people were, and have been responding so positively, which was my intention. To spread love, joy, and positive vibes GrinderZZ: If you had a chance to work with 3 R&B singers, who would they be?

Anthony: H.E.R. because she’s a phenomenal artist, has a beautiful voice, and plays multiple instruments. Anderson Paak and Andre 3000. They’re just great songwriters, and really think outside the box sonically.

GrinderZZ: Have you ever thought about having a professional singing career?

Anthony: I most certainly have. I’ve played in several bands and projects over the years from hard rock, to reggae, soul, funk. I’m currently performing and pursuing music full time, and occasionally go out and play for smiles just to brighten peoples day. It’s extremely rewarding.

GrinderZZ: What genre of music do you like the best?

Anthony: Thats a difficult one. I have a really broad musical palate. I listen to anything from rock, reggae, hip hop, jazz, classical, just depends on my mood.

Roots Reggae is probably at the top. I love music with real substance and a positive message.

GrinderZZ: What are you plans and goals for your future in singing?

Anthony: I’m working on a solo album at the moment, due out this fall. I plan to continue performing and recording, and reaching as many people as I can with good vibes through music.

I love searching hi and low for the best talent that's out there, and quickly stumbled onto this awesome DJ. His name is DJ Jevity and, right now, he's one of the hottest DJ's that's out there. Let's talk with Jevity.

GrinderZZ: What an honor, and a pleasure to have you in the GrinderZZ 24/7 studio.

Please, can you tell us a little about yourself ? Where are you from?

DJ Jevity: I grew up in Chicago, Illinois, with my Mom, Grandma and auntie; the Triangle of women who raised me!

GrinderZZ: Growing up, what type of music did you like?

DJ Jevity: I liked all the music, I grew up in that VH1 and MTV music videos before school era. I liked everything from Metal to Gang star to Nsync.

GrinderZZ: When did you decide you wanted to become a DJ? DJ Jevity: DJ Started as more of a hobby in college, would control the music at some parties or Perform as well! After College I decided to buy some turntables and try to DJ at some local bars and have been doing it ever since.

GrinderZZ: Have you worked with any celebrities, and if so, what's that experience like?

DJ Jevity: My Brother is probably the only Celebrity I can say I "worked with ''. It's a Great experience, I've DJed at some amazing places and I get time with my brother. I'm Grateful!

GrinderZZ: You play a mix of hip hop, techno, and dance music. Do you have any music mixes that people can download for their enjoyment?

DJ Jevity: Practice, perfect practice and practice perfectly!

GrinderZZ: Have you toured outside of the United States, or do you just stay within the US? DJ Jevity: I Have only toured within the United states. I think we will go to Canada later in the year, that will be my first time out of the U.S! GrinderZZ: Have you ever got nervous, or had a bad experience right before a show you were about to do?

DJ Jevity: I get butterflies before every show, I think it's just me hyping myself up cause I really just freestyle when I'm up there, so anything can happen. I have had a few bad experiences before, sometimes you just got to tough up and keep the show going though!

“DJ Nappy G” The story on how DJ Gordon “Nappy G” Clay and I became friends is remarkable. We're both followers of the James Brown Fan Club, on Facebook. A fan was giving away, for free, some old tapes of the late James Brown and there was a rare tape that was given to me, that he wanted. Long story short, I sent it to him, in Germany, and since then we became great friends. Let's chat withGordon.

GrinderZZ: Hi there, Pal! Welcome to the GrinderZZ studio.

Please tell my audience something about yourself.

DJ Nappy G: Hi, Angie! Thanks for the opportunity to talk to your awesome audience. And thanks for that kind introduction. My birth name is Gordon Clay, but I started calling myself "Nappy G" in 1990 when I 1st started growing baby dreads & the whole NYC scene was inspired by the Native Tongues crew (De La Soul, Jungle Brothers, ATCQ, Queen Latifah, Monie Love, Black Sheep, Leaders of the New School, etc), plus the London-based Funki Dreds of Soul II Soul. At the time, having

natural hair & the word "nappy" were still considered negative to many. I reclaimed it, with Black Pride (like JB said, Say it Loud!). I was born in Chicago, the son of 2 A.M.E. ministers, moved a lot as a kid, also lived in Iowa, Canada, & some great formative years in Kentucky, before boarding school in the N.E., & college in NYC! I played drums & West African percussion, since my youth, studying with Chuck Davis Dance drummers in my summers, & playing in concert & marching bands during the school year. Growing up with music of all kinds around the house: Jazz, Gospel, Opera (mom is a trained opera singer), Soul, & from my big sister, all the jams from the 70s/80s.

She took me to all my 1st concerts, too; Curtis

Mayfield, Rick James, PFunk, EWF, so many. I got the 1st rap vinyl when I was just 10 years old (Kurtis Blow Christmas Rappin), & all the rest that came out after, incl. every Sugarhill Gang original, in real-time.

I've grown up with hip-hop since it 1st started. Same with Prince, followed him since his 1st album. The Funk was my foundation, though. The Godfather (James Brown, Soul Brother #1), Ohio Players, Roger & Zapp, Barry White, Dazz Band, Fatback Band, Bootsy, George Clinton & PFunk, Bar-Kays, Cameo, Heatwave, then all the Funk-Jazz...Miles, Herbie, Jaco, Eddie Henderson, Freddie Hubbard, Roy Ayers, the list goes on & on.

I came to New York City on a music mission, Columbia University. It was just my ticket to the city. I Joined bands there, as an 18 year old, and continued my percussion training in Haitian/Afro-Cuban/West African/Brazilian techniques.

In 1991, I started playing percussion at a weekly party called Giant Step, with live jazz/Funk musicians, who were jamming to the DJ. Nobody was doing it in the States. We created a scene

that helped birth Digable Planets, Guru's Jazzmatazz, The Roots, Buckshot LeFonque, Nuyorican Soul, & more. I co-founded a band from that scene with 9 fellow musicians, called GROOVE COLLECTIVE. Years of records & tours (& a Grammy nomination) with them, plus doing the Giant Step party, led me to collaborate with DJ Nickodemus, a fellow alum of the Giant Step crew. We started a party called Turntables on the Hudson, that did outdoor parties on waterfronts all over NYC, and now the world! Still going strong & doing special parties globally in 2022!

Nickodeums and I, also, do an annual James Brown Tribute party in NYC every Christmas or Boxing Day, since 2006, when Mr. Brown left us. That's where I show videos like the one you sent me, while we go through his many hits & also his disciples'. After years of playing percussion with great DJ's, I finally started DJing myself. I had the experience to hear how to mix tracks seamlessly, & treat each song as a special remix just for that night.

Now I DJ, I play percussion, I MC, & I produce original music. I consider DJing to be another way of playing the Drums.

GrinderZZ: How long have you been a DJ? DJ Nappy G: I DJ-ed my 1st gig in the summer of 1998 and haven't stopped since!

GrinderZZ: I was intrigued when you told me that you live in Germany. How is it different from the states?

DJ Nappy G: One big way that Germany is different from the States is that they still have state-supported Arts Programs. All that got privatized in the USA, starting with Ronald Reagan in the 80's. So, there are many grants & stipends available for artists of all mediums (if you have an Artist Visa, which is a whole other application process), & the money to pay for it is coming from taxpayers. They don't see the Arts as a luxury or optional. They see it as a necessary part of Life, which it obviously is. That's a lot more common in European countries. It's also a lot more bureaucratic than the USA, so there's tons of paperwork to do anything! But I've found that if you fill out a few forests' worth of papers, they usually try to help with whatever you're asking.

GrinderZZ: How long have you been a fan of James Brown?

DJ Nappy G: I've been a fan of James Brown's since I was a little kid, so +40 years. I remember seeing him & the JB's play on Soul Train when I was little & being mesmerized. I also remember seeing people like MJ & Prince & Sly Stone & George Clinton give him ultimate respect. That says a lot.

GrinderZZ: Being a great DJ, I know you probably get notice a lot out in Germany. Do you ever stop to take pictures with fans?

DJ Nappy G: I'm a little off the fan-photos these days, because with social media & friends of friends (people I never met at all), I don't know exactly what's gonna happen with that photo. Photoshop is a helluva drug!

Lol! But if it's just a natural, in the moment snapshot that captures a vibe, I like those.

GrinderZZ: What genre of music do you play for your audience, or do you do a combo of different types of music?

DJ Nappy G: I play a combo of styles that I call the Funky Passport sound. It's Open Format, but I feature Boom-Bap (underground & popular), NuSoul, Rare Groove Classics, Global Bass, Afro-Latin Electronic, Funky/Disco/Afro/Tech/Latin HOUSE, Dancehall, Salsa, Amapiano, Cumbia, Batucada, Champeta, Kuduro, Bhangra & basically anything with a funky rhythm & fat bassline! Music is the Universal language, the Feelings transcend words.

GrinderZZ: Do you ever see yourself moving back to the United States?

DJ Nappy G: I never say never. So, when it comes to moving back to the States, it's not impossible. But I still have a lot more to do out here in the non-American parts of the world! In some ways, I'm just getting started. I plan on doing more projects in Ghana, Ethiopia, Egypt, Cambodia, & a few other places. But now I have an established base in Europe, plus 31 years of Brooklyn & Harlem in my blood, & I can branch out from here. I recommend that everybody get their passport, if they haven't already. Do it now! They last for 10 years & a U.S. Passport is still valuable in most countries worldwide, no matter the politics. Get the extra pages & travel as much as you can before it's no longer possible, for various reasons!

GrinderZZ: Any word of advice you can give to someone who wants to have a career as a DJ? DJ Nappy G: If you want to start as a DJ now, there are many avenues to pursue. I believe that 1st learning on real turntables is crucial, because all the digital software is modeled to copy the real functions of turntables. The best skills in matching beats, comes from using vinyl for a while. Then you don't need the machine to count the beats for you, your ear just hears it! Then you have to decide if you want to be an Online, streaming DJ with Video....or do recorded shows, like a mix show/podcast....are you going to play in clubs & bars? Learning how to read a crowd is a separate skill from mixing records, & it's VERY IMPORTANT for live gigs! Yet another reason it's good to be well-versed in many styles. But if you have 1 sound you love the most, & just want to rep that, then go all the way in! Make your own custom-edits & share them with DJ's who play your style; network with those DJ's & their fan bases, too. Share your mixes &

original music there and build off your natural demographic. And when you're 1st starting out, always be ready to say YES to a gig. Get the experience. It's worth more than the money, at 1st. The 10,000 Hour Rule applies in dj-ing, like everything else.
