LETTER FROM THE CHAIR Judith Joseph, Angels for Humantiy President & Founder

Dear friends, On behalf of the Board of Directors of Angels for Humanity and the Catwalk For Charity committee I would like to thank you for your past support and invite you to join us once again this year and help us celebrate our 6th Catwalk For Charity event.

Twelve years ago, I invited a group of friends and colleagues to join me and launch Angels for Humanity (formerly known as Breakfast with Santa), an organization dedicated to raise awareness and support for the underprivileged in Haiti. After just a couple of years, I was happy and pleasantly surprised to see the positive response I received from the community. The charity has steadily grown and now our members reflect the rich cultural and ethnic diversity that make South Florida such an exciting place to be.

This year’s luncheon and fashion show will truly be a celebration on many levels. We are getting together to celebrate not only our “Angels” but also the many devoted volunteers who have given their time, talent, and expertise. These amazing individuals have made health and education a priority and believe it to be one of the most viable solutions to guarantee Haitian children a brighter and better tomorrow.

Every year, at Christmas time, a group of volunteers travel to Haiti to provide school supplies to thousands of excited and grateful children. And since the volunteers are full of the Christmas spirit, they also have one of the largest toy distributions in the country.

Last year, they made over 5,000 children happy. This year they hope to double that! This is what Catwalk for Charity is all about. Our goal is to provide hope, dignity and joy. We want to build a future for the children and fulfill as many of their needs as we can. But all of this could only be done with the substantial support and the sustained commitment of each and every one of us.

I am very proud of the support that I have received these past 12 years.

We could not have started or persevered in this journey without the partnership of our supporters and our sponsors. Can we count on you, again this year, to join the mission of raising the expectations and self-esteem of these wonderful children and their families? More than ever before, we need your help! Historic Citadelle Laferrière

Visit the Unique City Jacmel Founded in 1698, the southern port city of Jacmel, about 25 miles southwest of Port-au-Prince, is a time capsule from the turn of the 20th century, with impressive mansions and urban architecture little altered in the past 100-plus years. Many of these buildings have been turned into galleries and workshops by the city’s large population of artists and craftspeople. The Hotel Florita is also little-changed since its construction in 1888, yet is the top-rated hotel in all of Haiti and just a block from the beach.

The city’s annual Carnival in January and February attracts an international crowd, and as one of the safest places in Haiti, Jacmel has been at the forefront of the country’s tourism revival. The legendary Bassin Bleu—blue pools connected by waterfalls—is just about 7 miles outside town and a popular destination for a day trip.

National Museum of Haiti

Haiti’s rich history includes the most successful slave revolt in the New World, which led directly to the establishment of the independent nation of Haiti in 1804. Jean-Jacques Dessalines, the leader of the revolt, was named emperor of the new nation and ordered the construction of a vast fort atop the Pic Laferrière, near the town of Milot in northern Haiti. The sturdy construction survives largely intact and, along with the nearby Sans Souci Palace, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors can tour the defensive works and see hundreds of cannons and cannonballs, still seemingly ready for action against an attempt by the French to retake the island. Tours can be arranged out of Milot or with a local guide.

Sans Souci Palace Located in Milot (near the city of Cap‑Haïtien), Sans Souci was the most elaborate of the many homes and palaces built by Haiti’s first king, Henri Christophe. Seen as a symbol of black power, the opulent palace completed in 1813 was inspired by European designs and played host to elaborate balls attended by foreign dignitaries. However, it was also the place where King Henri I killed himself after suffering a stroke in 1820, and where his son and heir was murdered during a coup that same year. The palace was heavily damaged in an earthquake in 1842, but the ruins hint at the past glory of a palace favorably compared to Versailles in its heyday.

In Port au Prince, visit the National Museum of Haiti which educates the public on the country from the times of indigenous peoples up until the 1940s. Also of interest is the Musée du Panthéon National Haitien—a tribute to Haiti’s national heroes—and the National Museum of Art, featuring pre-Columbian art from around Haiti.

The most important guest for this year’s Catwalk for Charity is 10 year old Yves-Danie Guerrier!

Yves Danie is a courageous young girl battling leukemia. Leukemia is a cancer of the Lymphoid line of blood cells characterized by the development of large numbers of immature lymphocytes.

She is currently being treated at L‘hospital Nos Petits Frères et Soeurs and she’s one of the beneficiaries of our annual Joy of Giving program in Haiti. By the grace of God, a visa has been obtained for her to travel to Miami and she will be with us to share her testimony. Her story is one of strength and courage.

For the past five years, we have partnered with FHACI, an amazing nonprofit organization based in Haiti, who helps children in their bat-tle with cancer. They are doing great work with very limited resources to fight childhood cancer in Haiti. Through FHACI, children who are receiving cancer treatment at the hospital benefit from our Joy of Giving gift distribution program in Haiti.

One of our honorees, Nathalie F. Belizaire, who is a cancer survivor, is a founding member of FHACI. Through Nathalie’s personal experience she has made an impact in the lives of these children. Veronica Frisch, Encaustic Artist Veronica (Vicky) FRISCH is an encaustic and acrylic painter born and raised in Haiti.

Her Haitian and European origins transpire through her art and her distinctive use of bright and vivid colors with bee’s wax is an inspiration from her Haitian culture.

The fact that she was surrounded by talented artists such as her mother Paulette Deschamps Frisch and her mother’s artist friend, Marie Jose Nadal, brought about her love of art at a very young age.

Later, she also attended classes with famous Haitian artists such as Tiga, Jean-Claude Legagneur and Nehemy Jean.

To complete her education, she attended Barry University in Florida and ESMOD in Nice, France.

In 2009 Veronica founded CREATIS, an Art Atelier in Petion-Ville, Haiti. After the devastating earthquake of January,12 2010, Veronica along with other professionals started working with underprivileged adolescents, giving them a place to express themselves and channel some very powerful feelings.

Veronica is an active member of PROMART HAITI, a foundation also founded after the 2010 earthquake to promote Haitian art and to help Haitian artists emancipate themselves around the world. It has been a wonderful journey and experience shared with other Haitian and international artists.

Veronica has had private and group exhibits since 2006. They have taken place at the Monroe Center in Washington, USA; in Romania at the National Museum of Unification in Alba Ulia; at ASOPORA International Art Exhibition in South Korea; at the Embassy of Haiti in Paris, France; at the Galerie Marassa and KOLEKTIF 509 in Haiti; at the Paynes Gallery in Pennsylvania; and in several other places in Germany, Italy, Morocco, the United States of America, France, Romania...

Veronica’s work was published in Marie Alice Theard’s book On Haitian women Artists in 2013.

She is a good example of what a multi-cultural artist represents, but mostly she is a true expression of Haiti where the sun shines, where bright and vivid colours unite on canvases.

Brian J White

Brian White currently stars in the new nighttime drama, “Ambitions” from producer Will Packer, and Oprah Winfrey on the OWN Network, premiering this June. He’s surrounded by an all-star cast that includes, Robin Givens, and Essence Atkins. The series tells the tale of two high powered African American families that clash and connect, professionally and romantically, in Atlanta. The series premieres June 18 th at 10pm.

A Boston native and son of a licensed financial consultant mother and professional basketball player father (legend JoJo White of the Boston Celtics), White was instilled with the importance of both sports and education throughout his childhood. He studied Political Science, Psychology and Theatre at

Dartmouth College. White is most recognizable to television audiences as Detective Tavon Garris on the award-winning FX crime drama “The Shield.” Other television credits include CBS’ “Moonlight,” UPN’s “Moesha,” “The Parkers,” and “Second Time Around” as well as MTV “Spyder Games.” He recently returned from touring the United States in David E. Talbert’s stage show “What My Husband Doesn’t Know” alongside Michelle Williams, Ann Nesby, Clifton Davis and Morris Chestnut.

He also has a philanthropic side to him and has co-founded a multitude of different ventures including: the Helping Hands Celebrity Weekend (HHCW) in St. Thomas, U.S. V.I. which creates a unique arena where members of the entertainment industry, professional athletes and corporate leaders can unite and support one another’s charitable efforts; Black Carpenter (www.BlackCarpenter.org)which is a multi-platform youth empowerment brand that includes a book, feature documentary and speaking tour designed to create a “tool box” that represents the essential life skills for building a successful next generation; a professional dance company/community youth outreach organization called Phunk Phenomenon Urban Dance Theatre.

He is also a founding partner of a full-service film, television and broadband production company based in Los Angeles, CA. He will celebrate his 10th wedding anniversary to Paula Silvina later this summer. They have 1 daughter Layla Simone.

Jonathan Perry, AKA J.Perry, was born June 4, 1988, and grew up in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. His parents noticed he had a good ear for music when Jonathan started playing music at the tender age of 6. Before garnering the ability to read musical notes, he was playing back songs he heard, so his mother enrolled him in piano lessons.

Jonathan soon was participating in concerts, recitals and contests—even performing with a Dominican orchestra at age 11—and played classical music until age 13, at which time he opted to pursue other musical styles. In June 2009, he took a break from the college scene to dedicate himself to completing his debut album. Working with Carl Fred Behrmann—owner of Haitian independent music label Baoli Records —J.Perry released his first single, “Staring at your body” in 2010. Soon after, J.Perry went to work on his debut album with Baoli Records. Joe Mignon, a music industry veteran, came on board as J.Perry’s full time manager. Indeed, Joe Mignon’s influence on J.Perry’s project provided a valuable approach to maximize his international exposure.

In November 2011, J.Perry’s debut album “One life to live” was released in Haiti, including to online distributors such as iTunes and Rhapsody. The first song on the album, “Dekole,” exploded to unparalleled airplay, airing 765 times in one week on local Haitian radios. Awarded “Hit Song of the Decade” in Haiti, “Dekole” was chosen as the theme song for the 2012 Haitian Carnival, which was renamed “Ayiti ap Dekole” in honor of J.Perry’s song.

He concluded a phenomenal year by being named 2012 Haitian Artist of the Year and accepting an invite to the private home of international superstar Wyclef Jean—also a Zumba collaborator—who publicly put his stamp of approval on J.Perry’s music with a Facebook video and additional social-media postings.

J.Perry was introduced to Zumba Fitness by Zumba instructor E mee Cherdieu D’Alexis, who had J.Perry’s hit single “Dekole” on constant spin in her New York City Zumba classes. Edmee played the song in 2012 for Zumba’s executives, which ultimately resulted in “Dekole” being featured on Zumba’s “Mega Mix 33” volume. In 2013, J.Perry release another smash hit “Bouje” featuring French Caribbean superstar Admiral T - J.Perry was asked by Zumba executives to perform at Zumba’s Orlando Convention 2013 an streamed live on Billboard Live’s platform. The Dekole collabor tion continues up until this date with a new version that has been recorded in Portuguese by Brazilian superstar, Claudia Leitte. The collaborationresulted in J.Perry being invited by Claudia Leitte to join her for the 2014 Brazilian Carnival in Bahia, Salvador, Brazil. As a dedicated fitness guru who appreciates the “exercise in disguise”that is Zumba Fitness, J.Perry has performed at various Zumba Fitness Conference’s in Los Angeles, France and Orlando. J.Perry’s latest collaboration with Zumba is his recent song titled “Konsey,” produced by Grammy winner Supa Dups featuring Haiti’s celebrity Dj Tonymix.

J.Perry has since toured the Caribbean Islands, Europe, Canada, Brazil and the United States. Industry veterans have slated him as the Singer/Pianist/Songwriter/Producer next major Caribbean Pop star.

Born and raised in Argentina, Gustavo Cadile is of Italian descent. His great grandfather, Enrico Dell’Acqua, was an influential Italian textile industrialist in Italy and Argentina. Enamored by his grandfather’s knowledge and eye for fabric and his mother’s eccentric European sensibility; Gustavo dreamed of becoming a designer.

In 2007, Gustavo Cadile launched his namesake label and has been quietly growing ever since. In 2015, he introduced his bridal label to much success. Gustavo interweaves Italian artistry with Argentinian imagery tocreateuniquelybeautifulgownsandcocktaildresses. His creations are made with the finest fabrics and are all manufactured in New York City.

Gustavo Cadile has been recognized for his craftsmanship and quality, earning him the New Emerging Designer Award in 2007 at the Gold Coast Awards in Chicago. He was nominated in 2008 and 2009 for the Fashion Group International’s Rising Star Award and in 2013, Gustavo was awarded the Fashion Group International Award in Miami.

Dr. Julio Hernandez grew up with a passion for dentistry encoded into his DNA—his father was a dentist and his older brother became a dentist too. Dr. Julio started his career25yearsagopracticingalongsidehisfatherandgradually grew the practice to multiple locations.

Today, Dr. Julio has narrowed his focus to his primary dental office in Miami where he also offers facial aesthetic services. Whether he is contouring and reshaping teeth or rejuvenating the face, Dr. Julio believes that beauty is achieved through a balance of art and science. This personalized care is a key ingredient to his success.

Dr. Julio’s philanthropic efforts help support his community by volunteering his time with various charities bringing much needed dental health and education to children in need. As part of a back to school initiative, he recently provided a free preventative dental day in his office for the kids from Big Brothers Big Sisters.

In 2018 he was approached by Judith Joseph who wanted to provide dental services to the children Angels for Humanity supports in Haiti. Without hesitation, Dr. Julio volunteered to bring his valuable skills to help those less fortunate.

He quickly reached out to his colleagues, put a team togetherofthreedentistsandthreehygienistsandgatheredenough supplies to service 400 children from Haiti’s impoverished community.Theirmissionwastoprovidepreventativedental care and alleviate suffering from poor oral conditions.

Dr. Julio is a passionate and compassionate philanthropist who gives back daily to those less fortunate even in the face of adversity . Last year, his trip to Haiti brought this organization the reassurance that there is hope in humanity. It is his selfless character that continues to give us the strength to pay it forward. Named one of People Magazine’s highly-coveted 50 Most Beautiful, Haitian-born actress Garcelle Beauvais immigrated to the United States at the age of seven with her mother and sisters, and has since charmed audiences with her dramatic and comedic abilities.

Balancing perfectly between the small screen and big screen, she returns to comedy in Netflix’s “Merry Happy Whatever” (Fall 2019) alongside Dennis Quaid and Ashley Tisdale and Paramount Pictures’ “Coming 2 America” (2020), the sequel to “Coming to America” (1988) alongside Eddie Murphy. She can also be seen in the fairytale inspired dark psychological thriller series “Tell Me A Story” (Fall 2019) on CBS All Access with Ashley Madekwe. She is also proud to be the first cast member of color on Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” (2020) and will be seen in the newest season.

Film has always been a passion for Garcelle. Most recently fans got to see her in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” with Tom Holland.

Above all, Garcelle’s most important job is being a mother. She was inspired by motherhood to write a children’s book series entitled ‘I AM,’ addressing identity issues relevant to many children today. There are three successful books in the series.

Garcelle supports the Step Up Women’s Network, a national non-profit that empowers women and girls to be strong and reach their full potential. She is also active with Angels for Humanity, an organization that helps children in Haiti through education and health based initiatives. She recently went on a humanitarian trip with the organization to help feed over 3,500 children. Tonight she is honored with the “Distinguished Humanitarian Award” at their 6th Annual Catwalk for Charity (September 2019).

A look back at Garcelle’s career shows a hybrid of business woman and mother who has been a cherished face in Hollywood for over three decades. She got her start in 90’s comedies “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and “The Jamie Foxx Show.” She went on to appear in television series such as SyFy’s “The Magicians,” Freeform’s “Siren,” NBC’s “Grimm,” “Chicago Med,” “NYPD Blue,” “Franklin & Bash,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Arrested Development,” “Power” on Starz plus many more. In addition to scripted TV, she co-hosted on Fox’s daytime talk-show “Hollywood Today Live,” where she broke down the latest in entertainment, pop culture, and celebrity news, as well co-hosting for E!’s “Fashion Police,” and “Access Hollywood Live” on NBC. In addition, Garcelle can be heard in the Nickelodeon mini-series “Middle School Moguls” (Fall 2019) where

language and adapted quickly. Her grandmother taught her the importance of caring for others.

Growing up to be a giver lead her to get involved in charities and mission trips. Additionally, living in a war zone during her childhood made her under-stand what it is like for a child to be deprived of basic life necessities. She believes in kindness and peace.

Ms. Younes lived in Michigan from (1997-2011), where she dropped out of college to devote her time to raising her 3 children, now (21, 18, 17 years old). A few years later they relocated to Miami, Flori-da. Having some help with her children, she was able to enter the business world. She opened her own company where she excelled in the real estate industry. Her ability to work with others made her a successful broker and landed her many recognitions and awards among others in the field.

Moreover, being a successful team leader in her business did not stop her from returning back to school to further invest in her education. She obtained her Bachelor of Science from Nova Southeastern University with honors (2012). Shortly after she was matriculated into their pharmacy program.

However, her divorce created another setback on her path in education to obtain her doctorate.

Her focus, most importantly, were her children.

When she was faced with obstacles, she stayed focused on her goals yet quickly adapted and changed direction to reach them. With her strong will and determina-tion, she went back to school and worked on her PharmD at Larkin University College of Pharmacy (2016-2019), where she is currently preparing to complete her board exam.

Batoul Younes Darwiche (born October 10) is an American Lebanese mom, entrepreneur, philanthropist and currently working on her board exam to become a pharmacist. She came to this country at 17 years of age. She learned the

In 1994, Sybil M. Elias earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Rutgers University and a certification in American Politics from the Eagleton Institute. While an undergraduate at Rutgers, she maintained the distinction of being on the Dean’s List and was inducted into the Golden Key National Honor Society. Sybil M. Elias is also a 1997graduate of The George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C. and is presently admitted to practice law in New York and New Jersey. While in law school, she attended Oxford University in England and received a certification in International Human Rights Law. Upon graduating from law school and returning to New Jersey, Sybil served as a law clerk to Judges Irvin B. Booker, Harold W. Fullilove, Sr., and Donald S. Goldman.

Sybil M. Elias regularly assisted Judge Irvin B. Booker with many community outreach initiatives. Together they planned appreciation programs for Newark senior citizens and a guest speaker’s series within the Newark Public Schools. Upon Judge Booker’s retirement, Sybil co-founded the Hon. Irvin B. Booker Scholarship Fund to benefit college bound high school seniors from the Newark area.

As a former Assistant Prosecutor in Essex County, she

as a volunteer co-administrator of the Newark-PACE mentoring program. PACE, an acronym for Program for Acceleration of Careers in Engineering, is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the education and enrichment of today’s youth in the fields of Science and Technology.

While an assistant prosecutor, she attended the National College of District Attorneys in Columbia, South Carolina and received certifications in Juvenile Justice and Trial Advocacy.

Six years out of law school, Sybil became a judge and earned the distinction of being the first Haitian American appointed to the Municipal Court in the State of New Jersey. Since her first appointment to the judiciary in 2003, Sybil has served in East Orange, Irvington, Newark, and Orange where she was the first female chief judge ever appointed in 2011. Occasionally she sits as a visiting judge in Nutley, Belleville, Bloomfield, Maplewood, and Montclair. Sybil M. Elias also served on the New Jersey Supreme Court Committee on Municipal Court Practice and the Essex County Municipal Court Judges Best Practices in Drunk Driving Committee. Judge Elias was also appointed to handle Temporary Restraining Orders issued in domestic violence matters filed in the Family Division of the Essex County Superior Court and is currently assigned to the Central Judicial Processing Court of the Criminal Division.

As a native of the urban Essex County, New Jersey area, Sybil has witnessed firsthand the disadvantages and adverse effect that a poor education and limited resources can have on youth and understands the importance of providing positive role models and encouragement to children. Advancing her interest in the next generation, Sybil readily participates in speaking engagements at schools and youth groups and regularly volunteers. She has been frequently recognized with numerous outstanding leadership awards from various organizations acknowledging her community service and dedication to children and the elderly. Furthermore, she is the recipient of two proclamations from the New Jersey State Assembly for her dedication and commitment to serve her community. Additionally, Sybil has been featured in the Rutgers Alumni Magazine Spring 2004 edition. Moreover, she has served on the Board of Directors for the Newark Community Concert Choir, PACE Youth Development Corporation, Urban Exposure, and the Infinite Way.

In 2012, she had been selected by the US Embassy in Haiti, to participate to “A New Beginning: Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation”, a three weeks program organized for 30 delegates from 30 different countries, a project sponsored during four years by the U.S. Department of States. Since then, she had the opportunity to participate in different sessions of professional development in several states in the United States, in Dominican Republic, Argentina, Panama and Costa Rica. Nathalie is a friendly, simple and humble person, very dynamic. She is married and is a mother of three. In her professional life as well as personal life, she remains true to advice given by philosopher Thomas Carlyle: “Permanence, perseverance and persistence in spite of all obstacles, discouragements, and impossibilities.”

The cause of childhood cancer appeals her personally because she has been touched by cancer. Indeed, in 2013, she was diagnosed for breast cancer. She had the chance to quickly receive proper care with lots of support. After her treatments in the United States, she was thinking about doing something in relation to those who suffer from cancer in Haiti. She began by integrating the GSCC, Cancer Support Group and a few weeks later, in mid-2014, she was invited to participate in meetings to establish an entity to help and support children with cancer and their families. She immediately jumped at the opportunity.

FHACI was born in October 2014. The founding members choose her as the Head of the Board of Directors and then, for three years and a half, she tried to fulfill this function at her best. She devoted herself with all her energy to awareness, mobilization, education and information about childhood cancer. From June to December 2018, she served as the Executive Director. Since January, she’s in charge of Public Relations and since May, she’s the official fundraiser. She has encouraged many people to help FHACI or become members/donors and take part in a few fundraising activities organized by supporters in Florida and New York for the benefit of the Foundation. Now she’s involved in the planning of different fundraising activities for FHACI to collect funds to help these children from the Haitian community suffering from cancer, the majority from underprivileged families who need all kinds of support, especially financially.

Because the children of Haiti are so dear to my heart, I continue to make endless sacrifices in order to make a difference in their lives. I sincerely believe that education is the only solution to eradicate extreme poverty and many can play a role.

One does not need to deplete their finances to help and make an impact. The important thing is to remain focused and take action regardless of challenges. If we think about it, every educated person is not necessarily rich, but almost every educated person has a job and therefore a way out of poverty.

So education is a fundamental solution to poverty. The problems we now face, violent conflicts, destruction of nature, poverty, hunger and so on, are human-created problems which can be resolved through human effort, understanding and the development of a sense of brotherhood and sisterhood. We need to cultivate a universal responsibility for one another and the planet we share. “Witnessing the lack of education in remote parts of Haiti can make you feel sad and powerless, until you realize how little it would take to change these children’s lives fundamentally in sustainable ways.”

Originally from Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, Claudia Coupet started her schooling at Saint Rose De Lima, an all girl Catholic School where she embraced the values that the nuns instilled in her. ABOUT FHACI FONDATION HAITI-

The Haitian Foundation Fighting Childhood Cancer (FHACI) is an organization established in Haiti in October 2014 by a group of doctors and other professionals from different backgrounds/experiences. The main reason for creating the foundation was because of the growing number of all types of cancer cases discovered, particularly in children, during the past years.

FHACI was officially recognized in September 2017 by the publication of its statutes in the official journal of “Le Moniteur”.

Help Haitian families to better care for their children who have been diagnosed with cancer.

General Objective

Assist pediatric oncology services operating in Haiti: public, private and non-profit institutions such as the Saint Damien Hospital/ NPFS Oncology Unit. This oncology unit is the only one Haitian Center for pediatric oncologic care. It is spread across three small rooms and an outpatient’s space with a total of 17 beds. Surgical interventions and chemotherapy are performed onsite at the hospital but for radiation therapy, the young patients have to travel to the Dominican Republic with a parent. Palliative care is also provided at this unit.

PATIENT AGES TREATED: from 0 to 14 years old (unfortunately no structure available for 15 to 21 years old) SURVIVAL RATE: 45% ABANDONMENT RATE: 15% NUMBER OF PATIENTS TO DATE: 650 (almost 100 from January 2019 to now)

Until now, data is lacking regarding the magnitude of childhood cancer in Haiti. Moreover, care providers are not really trained to provide this type of treatment; diagnostic tests are expensive and limited in type, the population is poorly informed as well as the affected families. Therefore, this situation makes the task even more difficult as the registered cases are frequently not diagnosed at an early stage; the treatment or care management is often very difficult and the prognosis poor, resulting in a high mortality rate. However, if the disease is detected in its early stage, many of these childhood cancers have a favorable survival rate and prognosis, with the new protocols there are treatments for even the most complex cases that can employ a variety of different strategies.

FHACI has only 2 staff members paid and 7 board members. Donors, volunteers and friends contribute to the foundation through membership fees, periodic donations or other forms of support. Their collaboration and participation to help FHACI being able to provide support to young cancer patients are truly appreciated. But due to the social, economic and political crisis in Haiti, many of them are struggling. Many others want to help but can’t do it for now.

Despite all, since almost five years, FHACI has been able to achieve the following objectives: · Reinforce quantitative and qualitative unit capacity of the only Haitian Center treating children with cancer; · Popularize the possibilities of support and integration of the Foundation at the local, regional and international levels.

The action’s fields consisted mainly in: • Opening of the Tap - Tap room, an outpatient clinic of the Department of Oncology at St Damien Hospital.

• Establishment of a library for the children • Realizing fun activities for the benefit of children hospitalized and those who are treated as outpatients at the Hospital.

• Purchasing drugs and medical devices as needed.

• Raising awareness for the general public in the early detection of the disease and increase advocacy (participation in radio and television programs, publication of articles in newspapers and on various internet platforms, distribution of flyers and posters in hospitals, pediatric clinics, pharmacies, schools, shops, supermarkets...) and explaining available care options.

Maryse PénetteKedar ...a look back

Maryse Pénette-Keda wasborn on August 12, 1953, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. She began her diplomatic career at the Embassy of Haiti in Washington, D.C. in 1982 as a commercial attaché.

In 1983, she was appointed as special advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Two years later, she became Chargé d’Affaires at the Haitian Embassy in Belgium. It is in this capacity that Mrs. Pénette-Kedar made history when she negotiated and secured Haiti’s entry into the Lomé Convention, an important economic cooperationagreementsignedwiththeEuropean Union’s in 1988. In 1990, she was appointed Ambassador of Haiti to the Benelux Union (Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands) in Brussels. Subsequent to her career in Haiti’s Foreign Service, Pénette-Kedar returned to the private sector.

She was asked to serve once again, this time with an appointment as the Secretary of State for Tourism in 1995. In that capacity Penette-Kedar continued to blaze new trails by implementing Haiti’s first Tourism Master Plan, which included a critically needed inventory of Haiti’s natural assets, from pristine beaches to long forgotten historic landmarks. By the year 2000, Pénette-Kedar was working with Royal Caribbean International, serving as a special consultant and as the president of Société Labadie Nord (SOLANO), a Haiti registered corporationresponsibleforthemanagementof Royal Caribbean’s cruise port in Labadie.

Throughout her career, Pénette-Kedar has worked to strengthen Haiti’s economic, social and political infrastructures. From 2005 to 2007, she chaired the Association of Industries of Haiti whose goal is to promote and develop Haiti’s industrial sector. PénetteKedar is also active in several non-governmental organizations.

She is a founding member of the Fondation Haitienne de Maladies Endémiques (GHESKIO), a local not-for-profit organization, which has, through its service and research activities, emerged as a national and international leader in the fight against diarrheal and mycobacterial diseases as well as AIDS and the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

Today, Pénette-Kedar, is ever more engaged in what she calls “the battle for Haiti’s future.” As the Founder and Board President of the Progress and Development Foundation (PRODEV), where she oversees the local foundation ‘s efforts to manage three schools in different parts of the country and offer over 1000 students access to quality education.

Pénette-Kedar also co-chairs CLE, the Haitian Center for Leadership and Excellence. CLE is a leadership development center created in 2011, to identify and support a new generation of collaborative and impactful citizen leaders who will be able to bring about a self-reliant and prosperous Haiti built on endogenous strengths and assets. CLE identifies and highlights promising leadership and innovations through compelling action research, conducts leadership education training programs to teach practical tools for mobilization, organizational development, and planning and holds awareness raising and networking activities that bring diverse leaders together to exchange and collaborate on shared priorities.

“There is lots of footage where people see Haiti at its worst, like the 2010 earthquake, collapsed buildings and extreme poverty,” said O’Brien, who was aided by a team led by Nathalie Philippe, a Haitian entrepreneur. “And certainly there are real issues in Haiti, real poverty in Haiti, but what’s incredible is how you drive around and quickly you are swept up in the natural beauty … and how much you are caught up by the people.

Breakfast with Santa It’s the Joy of Giving!

BREAKFAST WITH SANTA (BWS) was founded in 2007 by a group of professionals from diverse backgrounds who shared the same passion-serving children and enhancing their lives. The organization has grown to reflect the cultural diversity that is often associated with South Florida. BSW members share a collective objective to share the value of education and the joyful spirit of Christmas with underprivileged children from Miami’s “Little Haiti” district, the surrounding areas to those in Haiti.

Each year, “Breakfast with Santa” hosts thousands of children ranging from five through twelve years old with a Christmas celebration in Haiti at Saint Louis de Gonzagues Campus in Haiti. It’s the Joy of Giving!

The organization has grown to reflect the cultural diversity that is often associated with South Florida.
