Prisila Clara

As one of the beneficiaries of our medical mission trip to Guatemala in April 2022, Prisila, age 11, was so excited to have us there. Prisila has an older and younger sister. They live with their mom in a one room makeshift house in an area of Guatemala City called Zone 4 where the city landfill is located. Most of the residents, including Prisila’s mom work for the city trash company in the plastic recycling department. This landfill, one of the largest and most toxic in Central America, houses over a third of the country’s waste, including trash, recyclables, and discarded food items. There are few, if any, health, and safety restrictions limiting the items that can be disposed of in the dump. Medical supplies, including used syringes, toxins emitted from discarded gas tanks, as well as other biohazardous materials contribute to the dangers of the landfill.

Families like Prisila’s living in this area are at a much higher risk of multiple health conditions due to toxic environmental exposures. These compromised health conditions also lead to delayed learning abilities. There is a local organization called Libre Infancia that is trying to change the course of these children’s futures. By providing proper education to the children from an early age to break the cycle of poverty they were born into.

Angels for Humanity visited this organization in April 2022 and provided medical and dental health screenings along with emergency and preventative medical and dental care.

Over 400 children, including Prisila, were seen by our team of health professionals and non-medical volunteers. Prisila says “I just want to do whatever I can to help my mom because she works very hard to take care of us.” Angels for Humanity was able to support the health of these children so they can thrive in school and grow up to become productive members of their communities.

ANGELS FOR HUMANITY FOUNDER & COO

Dear supporter,

I would like to take a moment to appreciate your initiative to attend the Angels for Humanity 8th Annual Catwalk for Charity: Where Fashion Meets Philanthropy! This is an event to raise awareness and inspire you to become as invested and passionate about our mission as me. So, thank you from myself and the entire Angels for Humanity team.

Angels for Humanity is very dear to my heart, as it is a charity that aims to help impoverished children gain access to quality education and healthcare. With a Board of Directors comprised of highly professional, compassionate, and action-driven individuals, we are committed to making a positive impact in the lives of disadvantaged children.. In addition to health and education, we have provided financial support to the only cancer hospital for children in Haiti and provided much-needed help to several schools. We have successfully enriched children’s lives by simply providing emotional support and showing that kindness is ever-present in their harsh reality, from the distribution of thousands of back-to-school backpack kits to establishing a crisis intervention program to broaden our scope of assistance. With Angels for Humanity, we aim to help children in the entire spectrum of disadvantages.

Education is a basic human right and a significant factor in the development of children, communities, and countries. Opening classroom doors to all children, especially girls, will help break the intergenerational chains of poverty, as education is intrinsically linked to all development goals. This has made education and healthcare our number one priority to make a difference in the lives of impoverished children in Miami, Haiti, and other developing countries. We provide opportunities for people to contribute to all of these efforts. It is imperative for Angels for Humanity to remain focused and to act regardless of the many challenges. With this mindset, we can ensure that the root problem of illiteracy is treated. Human related problems, such as violent conflicts, destruction of nature, poverty, and hunger can be resolved through human efforts, understanding, and education.

I am also excited about the construction of the Angels for Humanity School and I hope that your interest in contributing to this endeavor has been sparked. Our vision is to create a haven for the youth’s creative minds and establish a place where hundreds of children will have the steppingstones they need to realize their true potential. With your generosity, this dream can become a reality.

Angels for Humanity along with all the impoverished children, are counting on you to get involved and become a volunteer, partner, and financial contributor. This will make this world a better place, one child at a time.

Sincerely,

9

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to Angels for Humanity’s highly anticipated 8th Edition of Catwalk for Charity. Our signature event is an elegant amalgam of fashion and philanthropy. Our organization’s main goal is to contribute to the betterment of the lives of children all over the world, particularly in Haiti.

At Angels for Humanity (AFH), we thrive to improve the lives of underprivileged children locally, in Haiti, the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic, and Guatemala, through education, health, personal development, and guidance initiatives. We are very proud of the breath of the missions and activities we have undertaken so far, as they have been extremely impactful.

The organization was started in 2006 by a group of professionals who shared the passion of making a positive impact in the lives of children. The active membership of AFH has grown exponentially to reflect the cultural and professional diversity of our community in South Florida. While staying in tune with our local community, we have spread our wings to other countries where children are also in great need. Our fundraising efforts, such as Catwalk for Charity, help bring lifesaving cancer treatments for hundreds of children and help fund our annual medical mission trips bringing medical, dental, and vision care to children in need. At the end of the year, we bring “ The Joy of Giving “ Toys distribution to children in the local community hospitals, the inner city, and all over the world, including the impoverished Batey’s in the Dominican Republic and in Haiti.

Our “Back to School” program pays for uniforms, school supplies and programs for children in countries where education is not free. We also travel to bring backpacks and school supplies to children in need in Florida and Haiti. We aim to reduce pain and suffering, while providing children with the educational tools to become productive members of our society. So far, we have impacted 85,000 children in Haiti and other developing countries, in addition to more than 11,000 children in Florida.

12

At Angels for Humanity, we adore the children we serve, and we know that only by offering more opportunities can we guarantee them a better future. Your presence and contributions represent the “wind beneath our wings”. Because of your attendance, your participation, your contributions, and your unwavering support, we continue to fly high and thrive, despite difficult and challenging times in our world.

For the past sixteen years, Angels for Humanity (AFH) has established itself as a well-respected philanthropic entity and 501c3 charitable organization. We have seen many changed lives, keeping us acutely aware of how impactful our involvement has been to the wellbeing of children. There are times when our organization offers the only hope left for some children who are living in a state of desperation. These unfortunate children did not ask to be born impoverished in a particular “zip code” or a particular country. They found themselves in these most difficult situations and are often hopeless. We feel that it is our duty, as Angels, to uplift them, support them, and give them hope for a better future.

All this work would not have been possible without our dedicated leadership, members, and volunteers who work tirelessly and relentlessly. On behalf of AFH and its supporters and sponsors I want to personally thank all the honorees for their outstanding contribution to our organization. They represent a sample of many more well deserving exemplary members we have yet to honor. We also offer a special thank you to our sponsors and supporters, without whose generosity, we would not have been able to execute so many ambitious and inspiring missions.

To support the goal of AFH’s effort to build a new elementary school in Haiti, we will be holding today our annual Fashion Show dubbed “Catwalk for Charity.” We recognize it is not merely a sophisticated social event or a nice party. It is an event carefully put together with love for a noble humanitarian cause. Our goal is to raise $250,000.00, which will provide AFH the necessary funding to start phase one construction of a school in a rural community in Haiti. 100% of the proceeds will be used for the school’s construction. Our members proudly donate time, funds, and talent to AFH and are all volunteers without pay. Please be generous and feel free to visit AFH’s website at www.angelsforhumanity.org for more information about our numerous accomplishments.

Enjoy the event and have a good time.

Hope to see all of you for our ninth edition of Catwalk for Charity.

BUILD THE FUTURE

Through education, we hope to break the cycle of poverty. Giving children hope and the resources to learn, to broaden their world view. Haiti is home to 11 million people with children making up 54% of the population. The Angels for Humanity Academy will provide free education to over 400 children in a country where education is a privilege, not a right.

Angels for Humanity secured a parcel of land in an impoverished rural community of Haiti. The project will consist of 9 classrooms for kindergarten, and 1st through 9th grade classes. As well as administrative offices, a library, a music room, and computer lab. There will also be a cafeteria with a full kitchen, housing for 25 guests, play and sports areas, and an organic garden.

The Angels for Humanity Academy will be designed to serve as a model for other educational facilities in rural Haiti.

The Angels for Humanity Academy will be designed to serve as a model for other educational facilities in rural Haiti. The school will be tuition free, and Angels for Humanity will provide the children with 2 meals a day, uniforms, and backpacks with supplies each school year. The school will be easily accessible with school bus transportation, safe, and secure, with beautiful landscaping and a range of academic and non-academic activities and services to attract and retain the best teachers who will be paid more than the average national teachers’ wages. The campus will be divided into academic buildings, housing, a medical and dental clinic, sports area, farmland, and energy production areas so that the school can become self-sufficient. All the buildings will be constructed with locally sourced limestone, reinforced cinder blocks, and louvered walls to encourage natural ventilation. Groundbreaking is expected to occur in 2023 with completion of the project in 2024.

THE ANGELS FOR HUMANITY ACADEMY WILL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

• 10-foot perimeter wall, and guard gate to provide security for the children

• Well-constructed, earthquake-proof buildings with landscaped grounds

• Safe outdoor playground area (kindergarten) and recreational spaces

• After-school sports program (intramural and competitive)

• Trees for shade and covered porches for shelter from the sun and rain

• Certified teachers who will be guaranteed a monthly paycheck

• A curriculum with an emphasis on Haitian Creole, French, and English

• Free after-school tutoring

• A library with a study space and free Wi-Fi for research

THE JOY OF GIVING

Angels for Humanity, formerly known as

Breakfast with Santa

, was started in 2006 to bring joy to impoverished children during the holiday season. Our hope is to create a lasting memory to this underserved youth so they can see they have not been forgotten and that there are people in the world that love and support them.

19

Through the years, this event has expanded to a program now called Joy of Giving which encompasses all our activities at the end of the year. Over the past 16 years we have touched over 50,000 children over the holidays by providing them a Christmas party full of fun, games, and food. Each child receives a wrapped toy which volunteers start wrapping months ahead of time.

The Joy of Giving

With your support, we can continue to provide many children with a lasting memory and a feeling of love which is so often missing from their regular lives. There are many ways to help us. Through donations, volunteering, or fundraising you too can make a difference in the lives of children around the world. Be the change you want to see in the world.

20

In December 2021, AFH partnered with the Broward Gold Coast Down’s Syndrome Organization to provide 150 children with wrapped toys for Christmas. Ten AFH volunteers participated in this Joy of Giving event that brought so much joy to these children. We look forward to seeing these kids again this year.

During Thanksgiving 2021, five of our volunteers gathered to collect all the food supplies necessary to make a Thanksgiving feast. 80 families whose children attend Melrose at Bethune Early Childhood Center benefited from this Joy of Giving Event allowing them the opportunity to share the joy of the holidays with their loved ones. This was certainly something to be thankful for.

His passion for Haiti is undeniable. Twice, The Miami New Times voted Calvin Miami’s Best TV News Anchor in 2022 and 2011, noting that he reported the story of Haiti’s earthquake “gracefully and professionally.” And, the publication recognized his 2021 exclusive interview with Martine Moise, the widow of assassinated Haitian President Jovenel Moise, that has been seen by millions on TV and online. Unprecedentedly, Calvin has interviewed the past three democratically-elected Presidents of Haiti for several special news reports.

For more than 16 years, Calvin, who earned his B.S in Journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia, has informed us about the major stories in South Florida. The breaking news has included around-the-clock coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 Surfside condo

He spent days in Havana, Cuba reporting live on the last two popes to visit Cuba including Pope Francis’ historic trip to three cities in Cuba and President Obama’s historic visit. In 2015, he was also the first American journalist to broadcast live from the grounds of the new American Embassy in Havana several hours before the official flag-raising ceremony and opening. In November of the following year, Calvin led members of the Local 10 News team across Cuba, for eleven days, to report on the death of former Cuban leader Fidel Castro.

Prior to South Florida, Calvin worked as an anchor/reporter in Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Dallas. He has also carried his pen and reporter’s notepad to Lexington, Ky., Evansville, Indiana, and Columbia, Mo., where he launched his career on the radio at the age of 19.

Calvin has a deep passion for giving back to the South Florida community. Currently, he is a member of several charitable organizations including the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project Mentor, NABJ-South Florida Chapter, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami, and is a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Above all, Calvin says he is a father first, and has been thrilled to make South Florida his home along with his two sons, Solomon and Roman, and precious daughter, Sakala Danielle.

ANGELS FOR HUMANITY DISTINGUISHED HUMANITARIAN AWARD 2022

Tatiana Arteaga-Teo

Tatiana Arteaga-Teo moved to Miami from Guatemala at eight years old. Her amazing parents moved the family to Miami due to political persecution only to find many hardships here including living in challenging areas and finding herself surrounded by gangs.

After finally finding her path, she was able to graduate as a chemistry major from Florida International University followed by University of Miami Medical School, and Columbia Presbyterian in NYC for Internal Medicine

Residency. She married her husband Andrew Teo and they have 3 beautiful girls who have been her inspiration to give back to kids who are not as fortunate.

In addition to being a physician, she is a professional photographer, fashionista, traveler, and avid philanthropist. Philanthropy is what really makes her feel alive, not only giving back monetarily to many organizations but dedicating her time and getting others involved in volunteering. She sits on several boards and dedicates her time whole heartedly to many charities including Libre Infancia, Angels for Humanity, Stan the Helper, Little Light House Foundation, Lotus House, Chapman Partnership, Gang Alternative, Ayuvi USA, Vizcaya, a mentor at Women of tomorrow and First Serve Miami.

Throughout the pandemic she spearheaded many philanthropic efforts including fundraising for education and sent tablets to over 200 kids in Haiti and Guatemala. She has also inspired friends to raise funds to distribute over 2000 turkeys for Gang Alternative’s Miami inner city families, as well as a collection & distribution of 300 back-to-school backpacks and supplies for inner city youths. For two years she’s helped local vendors and Miami Design District stores raise funds for Lotus House - Shop for a Cause.

Tatiana is also a mentor to 20 girls with Women of Tomorrow at Miami Edison High School. Most recently, in March, she helped Angels for Humanity with a medical and dental mission in Guatemala where they serviced over 350 kids at her first charity Libre Infancia. This was quite the undertaking and a beautiful marriage of her charity work here and in her original country. She hopes to continue her many roles including being a positive influence and getting others involved, constantly looking for new organizations and new ways to help.

MEDICAL MISSION Guatemala

34

Our medical mission trip is an annual event, where 30-40 volunteers come together to help impoverished children with their medical and dental needs.

Last year we had the opportunity to travel to the Dominican Republic where we helped over 600 children.

This was our largest mission to date. Most of these children do not have access to basic healthcare. Our presence was for many the first time they have ever seen a medical professional. Our goal is to provide preventative and emergency care in the hopes of alleviating pain and suffering that many of these children live with every day.

35

This year we traveled to Guatemala to provide care to children living in an area called Zone 4 where the city trash dump is located. Families living in makeshift housing are chronically exposed to bio-hazardous waste and chemicals leading to a multitude of health conditions. With our foundation, we were able to provide wound care, medications, as well as emergency and preventative dental care. In addition, each child received a goodie-bag with basic necessities like soap, shampoo, towel and more.

36

None of this would be possible without the support of individual and corporate donors that allow us to purchase the necessary supplies to help hundreds of children.

With your help we can continue to aid impoverished children in Haiti and other parts of the world.

Julio Iglesias Jr SPECIAL GUEST

Julio Iglesias, Jr., has lived a life steeped in the transcendent power of music. Since first taking the stage with his legendary father as a small child, the Madrid-born artist has turned out musical projects in a dazzling expanse of genres, toured with icons like Cher, and captivated audiences across the globe with his soulful vocals and effortlessly charming presence. Made with famed producer Rudy Pérez (the Grammy Award-winning musician known for his work with superstars like Christina Aguilera, Beyoncé, and Natalie Cole), his new album Under The Covers finds Iglesias reinterpreting an eclectic mix of pop songs in the classic sound of big band and swing—a supreme fit for his impossibly smooth voice, resulting in his most magnetic and magical work to date (which will be followed by several exciting major projects still to be announced.)

Recorded in his home base of Miami Beach with an elite lineup of musicians, Under The Covers makes for a perfect counterpart to the crowd-thrilling live show Iglesias has brought to venues around the world in recent years. “When I first started singing in this very timeless style, everything clicked for me,” he says. “It feels authentic to who I am more than anything I’ve done before, and I knew I needed to continue on that path. I love that I’m able to give people something that takes them back and brings them joy, especially at a time when the world really needs more peace and love.”

Every year our organization raises funds to support impoverished children by providing them with backpacks filled with school supplies. Through the years we have supported schools with monetary donations and uniforms for children. Over the past two years, we expanded our Back-to-School program in Miami by providing a Health Fair. This year we partnered with the Overtown Youth Center and Honey Shine to provide a fun-filled day with carnival rides, arts & crafts, haircuts for boys, hair braiding and nail salon for girls, medical and dental screening, and food for over 500 children. We look forward to expanding this program in the years to come and provide children the opportunity to excel in school so they may become better prepared for their future. With your continued support we can make this goal a reality and improve the lives of many more children in Miami and around the world.

The success of this event raised funds to support our Back-to-School program in August 2022 that impacted over 500 children in Miami’s Overtown community.

In May 2022, we inaugurated our first annual Tea for a Cause fundraising event at the iconic Biltmore Hotel combining fashion, haute hats, and philanthropy. Over 250 guests were in attendance and enjoyed a cocktail reception, live auction, fashion show curated by Neiman Marcus and luncheon with a performance by Miami City Ballet dancers.

We have seen many changed lives over the years keeping us acutely aware of how important our efforts really are. Funds raised at this event will help fund our programs throughout the year that supports thousands of children around the world through health and education. Your presence helps us make this dream a reality for hundreds of poor children living in extreme poverty.

Now in its eighth year, Catwalk for Charity has grown to include over 500 prominent guests including South Florida’s “Who’s Who,” fashionistas, socialites, philanthropists, iconic figures, business leaders, attorneys, doctors, and members of the press. Hosted by Calvin Hughes, last year’s event awarded Garcelle Beauvais with the Distinguished Humanitarian Award. Our guests also enjoyed live music and danced in the aisles to songs by the Gypsy Kings. Both Trang Phung and Nardos Imam showcased their own fabulous fashion line.

CRISIS INTERVENTION

Providing Hope in Desperate Times

Unexpected life circumstances can happen to anyone. But when your daily life is a struggle to survive, a natural disaster can tip the scale from desperation to tragedy. Angels for Humanity has developed a program to support children in times of crisis. During the pandemic when supplies to the country of Haiti were greatly diminished, a team of volunteers traveled there to deliver backpacks and school supplies along with masks to children to assure they remain in school. In addition, we provided PPE equipment and monetary donations to the only cancer hospital in Haiti, Nos Petit Freres Et Soeurs.

Just last year, Haiti experienced a devastating 7.2 magnitude earthquake which left a struggling population in an emergency state of desperation. In response to the situation, AFH partnered with the Association of Haitian Physicians (AHME) to create a wound care and rehabilitation center at the General Hospital in Jeremie.

65
With your support, we can provide help to thousands of families presented with a life-ordeath situation. Every dollar donated goes to fund programs like these that supports many children and their families.
Crisis forces commonality of purpose on one another.”
