VISIT at the LIGHTHOUSE in OUR CITY…

On 7-04-2016 we visited the Lighthouse and we took an interview from the Lighthouse-keeper. We started asking questions and later, we went into the Lighthouse.

Appearance of the Lighthouse

The lighthouse keeper told us that our city’s lighthouse is 27m tall and cylindrical. The construction is of stone. Below the base of the Lighthouse top, are some stone statues in the form of a lion. In front of the Lighthouse there is a beautiful fountain which, during the night, is lit by colourful lights.

General information He also told us that the lighthouse in Alexandroupolis lit at 1880 for the first time and he saw us the lighthouse’s lamp which is rotating and lights three times every 15 seconds.

What do a lighthouse-keeper do? <<I’ve been working in the Lighthouse for 14 years and I’m responsible for the region of Thrace. In Greece there are 60 Lighthouse-keepers and here I’m alone. Brunateâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Lighthouse - Italy

We went to see Brunateâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s lighthouse on the 28th of April.

We took a bus from school to Como and then from Como we took a cable car to Brunate.

We walked a lot from the cable car station to the lighthouse!

Brunateâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s lighthouse is a monument in memory of Alessandro Volta who invented the battery in 1799.

The lighthouse keeper told us that the lighthouse was first built in wood and then rebuilt in concrete in 1927.

The lighthouse is 29 meters high and to reach the top you have to climb 143 steps.

The lighthouse at night emits a three coloured light: white, red and green, which are the colours of our flag.

The light beam goes as far as 40 km.

From the balcony of the lighthouse you can see beautiful landscapes of Como lake.

Lighthouse in Gdansk-Poland

We went to see the lighthouse in Gdansk on the 25th of May. We took an interview from the Lighthouse-keeper and we visited the lighthouse.

We learned that:  



The lighthouse is 27 meters high.

On the top of the lighthouse, there is an unusual historic instrument - a time sphere.

From the lighthouse’s window they fired the first shots of World War II.

The Lighthouse’s coordinates area: 54°24'28" N 18°39'50" E.

Light:

● flash: 2 seconds ● break: 3 seconds ● period: 5 seconds

The lighthouse was built between 1893-1894, replacing the older one.
