The Royal Food Family

The Royal Food Family One morning, the Royal Food Family decides to swim in the royal swimming pool, when they suddenly, hear a strange and terrible sound. “Ow, ow, ooh, aah, ooh!”.

King Henry the Egg, Princess Peapod, Prince Waffle and Queen Anna Banana climb out of the royal swimming pool. People from all over the kingdom hear this horrible noise and become frightened.

“I don’t know who is making that sound” King Henry the Egg says.

“Neither do I” Sir Milkford replies. “But I think that it comes from that mountain” So, all the family goes towards the mountain. As they climb it, they listen to the sound louder and louder.

“Ow, ow, ooh, aah, ooh!”

“Hey!” Prince Waffle shouts. “It’s coming from that cave.”

They come into the cave, “What a mess,” cry Princess Peapod. “Look at the floor is full of empty soft drink cans, empty potato chip bags, candy wrappers, cookie crumbs, and a half-eaten cake”.

“Ow, ow, ooh, aah, ooh!”

“Who’s there?” asks Sir Milkford as he lifts his lantern.

“Run!” shouts King Henry the Egg. “It’s a….”

“Run!” shouts King Henry the Egg. “It’s a dragon!”

“Please!” say the dragon. “Help me! I am very sick, and my body hurts all.”

The dragon put his head down and lay very still.

“Can we help him?” asks Princess Peapod.

“Of course,” says Sir Milkford. “We’re the Royal Food Family. We represent the Five Food Groups. That’s what this little dragon needs to get healthy and stay healthy.”

Sir Milkford begins to draw some pictures on the wall of the cave to show the dragon what he needs to eat.

The dragon begins to cry.

“Why are you crying?” asks Sir Milkford.

“I can’t see what you’re writing,” the dragon replies. “It’s too dark in here.”

“Poor night vision,” Sir Milkford says. “Princess Peapod, give this poor dragon what he needs to help him see in the dark.” Princess Peapod put her hands on her pocket and says “Here, eat these carrots.” The dragon looks at the carrots for a moment almost afraid to eat them. Then he gives them a try.

“Mmm, good!, my vision gets better!!” replies the dragon.

“Of course,” replies Princess Peapod. “Everyone knows that carrots and other vegetables help your eyes see in the dark.”

Sir Milkford places his lantern next to the dragon. The dragon looks terrible. His teeth are black, his skin is full of cuts and bruises.

“We’re going to help you, little guy,” Sir Milkford says.

Then he reaches into his pack.

“Do you like milk?” Sir Milkford asks.

“I don’t know,” answers the dragon. “I’ve never tried it.”

“Never drink milk?” Sir Milkford asks very surprised. “Next you’re going to tell me that you don’t know that milk and other Milk Group foods help build strong bones and teeth.”

“Do they?” says the dragon in amazement.

“Yes, they do. Here, take a taste,” says Sir Milkford, giving him a glass of milk.

“Mmm, good! This tastes delicious,” the dragon says.

“Have another,” says Sir Milkford.

“If you start eating foods from the Milk Group, your bones and teeth will get stronger and stay healthier.”

“Look at my skin, it’s horrible!” exclaims the dragon. “How can I get my colour back?”

Queen Anna Banana puts her hand on her pocket and gives the dragon a large orange.

“Foods from the Fruit Group help your skin heal.”

When the dragon finishes the oranges, he hears laughing and shouting outside his cave.

“What’s that noise?”

“It’s just some of the children playing soccer,” says the King.

Prince Waffle asks the dragon if he wants to join the game.

“I’ve never played soccer,” replies the dragon.

“I’ll teach you” Prince Waffle tells the dragon.

But the muscles in his legs are weak so he has no power behind his kick.

“You need strong muscles to play sports. Meat Group foods are important to help you build strong muscles.” King Henry shares his hamburger with the dragon. “Try this,” says the King.

“I like this meat,” says the dragon. “This tastes great! Mmm, good!”

“Excellent,” says King Henry. “Not only you need to eat a variety of foods, you also need to stay active every day to keep your body and muscles strong and healthy. You also need to do exercise, and for this you need energy.”

“This is my specialty. If you want more energy, you have to eat foods from the Grain Group every day. Try this waffle. It’s my favorite.”

“Mmm, good!” says the little dragon.

Now the dragon is feeling better.

King Henry the Egg looks at him and says, “I think it’s time for us to go home.”

“Wait,” says the dragon. “I feel so much better now that you’ve given me some foods from each of the food groups. But what am I going to do tomorrow?
