AN ANNUAL JOY!

There is a unique magic in a packet of seeds. Every spring, I scatter a blend of hardy annual seeds directly into the soil. My favourite six annuals are Phacelia, Calendula, Corn Cockle, Rhodanthe, Cornflower and poppies all transform the garden into a vibrant, buzzing haven with minimal effort.

If you are looking for maximum reward for minimum effort, this is the ultimate low-maintenance recipe for a stunning summer display each of these six annuals bring its own personality, colour, and texture to the garden. Phacelia (Phacelia tanacetifolia): Also known as purple tansy, this plant features fern-like foliage and unusual, curling lavenderblue flowers. It is an absolute magnet for bees and hoverflies all summer. Calendula (Calendula officinalis): The classic pot marigold offers cheerful, sunny bursts of bright orange, cream and yellow. Corn cockle (Agrostemma githago): A nostalgic cottage garden favourite, it boasts tall, slender stems topped with elegant, five-petaled magenta or soft pink blossoms. Paper daisy (Rhodanthe chlorocephala): Often called the sunray daisy, these charming black and white flowers have a paper-like texture. They dry beautifully, allowing you to keep a piece of summer indoors all winter. Cornflower (Centaurea cyanus): With its intense, unmatched sky-blue hue, the cornflower adds striking depth and a classic wildflower aesthetic to the mix. Annual poppies (Papaver somnifera): sown in winter they burst into flower from June to August with flowers in an array of different colours.

there is no need for seed trays, greenhouses, or meticulous spacing. Simply scatter the seeds thinly, press them gently into the earth so they make good contact, and water them in.

By the time the summer months arrive, the garden undergoes a breathtaking transformation.

From June through September, these plants burst into colour. As one species peaks, another steps up to take its place, ensuring a continuous supply of fresh blooms for both your eyes and the local pollinators. These annuals define easy care. Once established, they require very little intervention. They thrive in average, well-drained soil and prefer a sunny spot, just water them during prolonged dry spells and deadhead the spent blooms if you want to prolong the flowering season.

The Best Part? If we are lucky, this one-time effort becomes a permanent gift, because as autumn approaches, let the final flowers fade and dry on the stem. They will drop their seeds directly into the soil. With a little luck and the right winter conditions, these self-sown seeds will quietly hibernate, ready to reappear next year and restart the beautiful cycle all over again.

Happy Gardening!

The beauty of this selection lies in its simplicity. Sowing happens in late winter to early spring,

Community Care

IS IT REALLY TIME FOR A CARE HOME? QUESTIONS TO ASK FIRST

When an older loved one begins to struggle with everyday tasks, many families find themselves asking the same difficult question: “Is it time for a care home?”

This question often arises after a fall, a hospital stay, increasing forgetfulness, or concerns about safety at home. While these worries are understandable, moving into residential care is not always the only option. In many cases, the right support at home can help people maintain their independence, remain connected to their community, and continue living in familiar surroundings.

Familiar surroundings, treasured memories, established routines, and close connections with neighbours, friends, and family all contribute to emotional wellbeing. This can be particularly important for people living with dementia, who may find comfort and reassurance in a familiar environment.

One of the first things to consider is whether the challenges being experienced are occasional difficulties or signs that additional support is needed. Families may notice unopened mail piling up, missed medication, changes in personal hygiene, difficulties preparing meals, or a home that is becoming harder to manage. Sometimes the signs are more subtle, such as increased loneliness, reduced confidence, or avoiding activities that were once enjoyed.

It is also common for family members to find themselves providing more support than they realise. What starts as helping with shopping or housework can gradually develop into managing appointments, medication, meals, and personal care. While many relatives are happy to help, the demands can increase over time, making it important to consider whether professional support could benefit everyone involved.

The good news is that needing support does not automatically mean giving up independence. Home care services can be tailored to an individual’s needs, whether that means a few hours of support each week or multiple visits throughout the day. Care can include assistance with personal care, medication, meal preparation, companionship, shopping, housekeeping, and support to attend appointments or social activities.

For many people, remaining at home offers significant benefits. Home is often where people feel most comfortable and confident.

Home care can also be adapted as needs change. Rather than making a major life change immediately, support can increase gradually over time. This flexibility allows individuals to receive the right level of care while maintaining as much independence as possible.

Of course, every situation is different. There may be circumstances where residential care becomes the most appropriate option, particularly when someone requires constant supervision or highly specialised support. However, before assuming a move into a care home is necessary, it is worth exploring what support can be provided at home.

The most important question is not whether it is time for a care home, but rather what support is needed to help someone live safely, comfortably, and with dignity. By exploring the available options early and seeking advice when concerns first arise, families can make informed decisions and avoid unnecessary stress.

For many people, the right care at the right time can make all the difference, allowing them to remain independent and continue enjoying life in the place they call home.

SUN, FUN AND VAT: WHAT THE SUMMER SAVINGS SCHEME MEANS FOR UK BUSINESSES

Summer is traditionally a time for family days out, ice creams, and the annual challenge of keeping children entertained during the school holidays. This year, however, the Government’s new Great British Summer Savings Scheme is giving the hospitality and leisure sectors something else to talk about.

Running from 25 June to 1 September 2026, the scheme temporarily reduces VAT from 20% to 5% on a range of qualifying family activities and children’s meals. The aim is to make summer attractions more affordable for families while encouraging spending in businesses that rely heavily on seasonal visitors.

For many operators, it could provide a welcome boost during one of the busiest periods of the year.

What’s Included?

The VAT reduction applies to a variety of familyfocused activities and services. These include qualifying children’s meals sold from dedicated children’s menus, family and children’s tickets to cinemas and theatres, and admission to attractions such as zoos, theme parks, soft-play centres and adventure parks.

For families watching their budgets, even modest savings can make a difference. A day out that might previously have seemed a little too expensive could become a more attractive option. For businesses, that could translate into higher visitor numbers and increased spending over the summer months.

Before You Start Celebrating...

As every accountant knows, tax reliefs rarely come without conditions.

Not every meal, ticket or attraction will qualify automatically. Children’s meals generally need to be specifically marketed and sold as children’s menu items, while special rules apply to advance bookings, memberships and season tickets. Businesses will therefore need to review their offerings carefully rather than assuming the reduced rate applies across the board.

In other words, before replacing your calculator with a deckchair, it is worth taking time to understand the detail.

A Busy Summer for Finance Teams

While customers may be enjoying discounted days out, finance teams are likely to be spending part of the summer ensuring systems are working correctly.

Businesses will need to update tills, booking systems, invoicing software and accounting records to reflect the temporary VAT reduction. Particular care will be needed where bookings are made in advance or where supplies span the start or end of the relief period.

The challenge is not simply applying a new VAT rate; it is remembering to switch back again once the scheme comes to an end. Temporary tax changes can often create more administration than permanent ones.

The Bottom Line

The Great British Summer Savings Scheme is designed to put a little extra spending power into families’ pockets while supporting businesses in the hospitality, leisure and entertainment sectors.

For families, it could mean more affordable days out and opportunities to create lasting memories. For businesses, it offers the prospect of increased demand during the peak holiday season. And for accountants, it is another reminder that while everyone else may be heading to the beach, VAT never really takes a holiday.

Still, if a tax relief can help fund a few extra trips to the zoo this summer, perhaps that is something we can all smile about.

And there was no better backdrop for the sale of these two magnificent punch bowls than our Bishton Hall saleroom – a grade-II listed Georgian mansion in Wolseley Bridge.

It was easy to imagine a grand dinner party taking place in the hall in centuries past, with these two bowls taking centre stage on a large mahogany dining table, glinting in the candlelight.

The first bowl, dated 1890, sold for £4,400 – almost double its guide price of £2,300 while the other, dated 1908, fetched £1,800 – tripling its

low estimate of £600.

These Edwardian beauties are both sculptural and usable.

A decade ago many large silver bowls, monteiths and punch bowls struggled to make a profit unless they were exceptional makers.

The monumental silver monteith, dated 1890, sold for £4,400 –almost double its guide price of £2,300

Another silver monteith, dated 1908, fetched £1,800 – tripling its low estimate of £600 at the Super Sunday sale at Bishton Hall in Staffordshire

Now they’re appearing on kitchen islands, in champagne displays and even as a part of grand floral arrangements.

While a punch bowl has a broad and open design, a monteith is a more specialised form of bowl, developed in the late 17th century, and distinguished by its scalloped rim.

The notches allowed wine glasses to hang upside down in iced water so they could be cooled before use.

The term monteith is believed to be derived from a Scottish gentleman named Monsieur Monteigh, who wore a cloak with a distinctive “u” shape at the bottom.

Many Monteiths feature a detachable rim. When the notched rim was removed, the Monteith functioned exactly like a regular punch bowl.

Every last Sunday of the month we host a ‘Super Sunday’ lifestyle sale at Bishton Hall – with the next on June 28 followed by July 26, with viewing on the Saturday before from 10am-4pm.

From Monday to Friday from 9am-5pm our team of experts is on hand to value everything from punch bowls to Dinky toys.

So if you’ve ever wondered about the story or value behind a treasured piece of jewellery, this is the perfect opportunity.

But even if you don’t want a piece valued, Bishton Hall makes the perfect destination for a free, dog-friendly family day out this summer.

Bishton Hall and Garden is located at Bellamour Lane, Stafford, ST17 0XN, telephone 01889 882397 or email enquiries@hansonsbishton.co.uk

Are you a parent exploring orthodontic options for your teenager? Fixed braces remain one of the most effective and reliable solutions for straightening teeth and correcting bite issues in teenagers and young adults. Dental implants offer a fixed solution for missing or failing teeth. Unlike dentures, they feel just like your own teeth and as they are not removable, they give patients the freedom to enjoy foods that are difficult to eat when wearing dentures.

Fixed Braces for Teens at Cheadle Hulme Dental

Unlike removable aligners, fixed braces work consistently to move teeth into their ideal positions, making them especially effective for more complex orthodontic cases. Also, because brackets are bonded permanently, treatment progresses steadily without reliance on remembering to wear removable devices. Your teen will even get to wear them in their favourite colour!

Composite veneers are a minimally-invasive type of tooth covering made using composite resin. The composite sits on top of your existing teeth, helping to shape the teeth into a more desirable appearance. They can be used to improve the appearance of natural teeth that have damage, discolouration, irregularly shaped, improperly aligned and can also fix minor chips or cracks in the teeth.

It doesn’t take very long for a dentist to prepare your teeth for application of the veneers, and the veneers are applied there and then, meaning you can get your dream smile in just one visit (following consultations).

A dental implant is a titanium post that acts as a prosthetic tooth root surgically placed into the jawbone. We use medical-grade titanium because it’s strong and light, but also because it has the ability to fuse with living bone.

Fixed braces for teenagers are an effective and reliable way to correct dental and bite issues, helping your teen achieve a beautiful, functional smile that lasts a lifetime.

Here are two examples of composite veneer cases we have completed recently, where the patients have been unhappy with their chipped, worn, uneven teeth, and the gaps between them. In each case, we placed six composite veneers to get rid of those imperfections and give each patient beautifully straight and even smiles.

Composite veneers create the most amazing smile makeovers at a fraction of the cost of porcelain ones, with NO damage to the natural teeth. And, as they can be done in one visit you can walk away the same day with a brand new, beautiful smile.

Once the implant has fused with the surrounding bone tissue, it can be used as a foundation for a replacement tooth secured to the top of the dental implant. It can also support multiple implants such as bridges or dentures. Implants can be used to replace all of a patient’s missing or failing teeth in what we call an all-on-four procedure where patients have all their teeth removed and replaced with implants the very same day, giving them a ‘same day smile’ where they walk away with a brand-new smile, in just one day.

LocaL History

In the next few issues, we will be taking ‘A Walk Round Yesterday’s Cheadle Hulme’ This will include images from Peter Crummett’s book of the same name. The book contains 82 images of the area taken from old picture postcards. In this issue we start at the railway station. The station on today’s site was opened in 1845 after the line had been completed to Macclesfield. The original stopping point for trains before this date was near the Hesketh Arms and was known as ‘Cheadle’.

We have now moved further away from the station to take in this 1914 view. You can now see that a roof has been added over the platform bridge and that a few street lamps have been introduced together with pavements to both sides of the road. The card clearly shows a Post Office adjacent to the nearest gas lamp. The shop with the blinds was later occupied by Arthur Chiverton whose name lives on in the mosaic door threshold. Now of course it’s the Chiverton Tap.

We have now moved back in time to a view of Station Road as it was in about 1903 with Mellor Road on the right between the two bridges. Notice just one gas lamp for as far as the eye can see. There is plenty of vegetation fronting the grounds of Oak House, a large Victorian house that was on the site of the present Waitrose supermarket. A small crowd has gathered to watch the photographer set up his equipment near the centre of this very narrow road.

Finally, before we leave the Mellor Road area we climb up onto the railway bridge and look at the view during two different time periods. This Valentine Co. card shows a photograph taken around 1930 just as a steam train was departing from the station on the Crewe line while many passengers are seen to be making their way home. The parked car on the road is presumably waiting to collect one of the passengers.

YOUR BEDROOM FOR YOU!

It’s the end of the day, you’re ready for bed. Upon entering your bedroom, do you smile – it’s delightful, this calm and soothing space, or sigh realising now there are more jobs to put on your list? Go ahead, update the bedroom, being the last thing you see at night brings calm if all is beautiful.

What sort of design would you have? Here’s some ideas in the pictures, all beautiful and each very personal to the person’s taste. Some prefer a completely neutral palette in the bedroom. It soothes you, no big design or colours to distract you from floating off to sleep, but to make it work it needs careful layering of textures, a small amount of subtle patterns works and careful choice of wood tones. Without these elements and soft lighting, it can feel bland or clinical and hard. A dark bedroom works so well, I love this one with the deep blue and taupe walls along the same tones, the very dark bed but notice the much lighter carpet, curtains, pictures and lighting, again being broken up by different tones in the bedding. Good quality fabrics, flooring and finishes along with carefully considered lighting is key to this cosy scheme.

upholstery on the bed is the hero piece in this room, set against darker walls to really make it stand out. Pair with gold framed side tables and lamp, colours to match in the artwork, and notice the co-ordinating bedding all sit with the timber floor to ground the colours for the completed look. For pattern, go with an oversized headboard like a throne! Keeping to the same colours you can add different patterns in the room and tone it down with background neutrals. Make your bedroom feel like you’ve gone away to a lovely hotel, and if you need help send me a message. For tips and tricks, follow me on Instagram. If you’d love me to help you, please do get in touch. Sharon.

SUMMER SCENTS FOR RELAXATION AND WELLBEING

Summer is a wonderful time to enjoy the outdoors, whether that’s tending the garden, exploring local parks, or spending quality time with family. One of the simplest ways to enhance wellbeing during the warmer months is through the power of scent, both in the garden and at home.

Many popular garden plants offer beautiful aromas as well as visual appeal. Lavender is perhaps the best known, filling the air with its calming fragrance on warm summer evenings. Rosemary brings a fresh, herbaceous scent that can help create a sense of clarity and focus, while mint adds an invigorating freshness that awakens the senses. Lemon balm, with its gentle citrus aroma, is another delightful addition to the garden and is often associated with feelings of calm and relaxation.

Taking a few moments to brush your hands through these fragrant plants while watering or weeding can be a lovely way to reconnect with nature and enjoy a mindful pause during a busy day.

Summer also offers an abundance of uplifting essential oils that can bring the freshness of the season indoors. Citrus oils such as mandarin, sweet orange, bergamot and grapefruit create a bright, cheerful atmosphere and are perfect for bringing a little sunshine into the home. Herbal oils including rosemary and peppermint add freshness and vitality, echoing the scents found in many summer gardens. For quieter moments, lavender, Roman chamomile and frankincense can help create a peaceful and relaxing environment.

After a day out with the children—whether it’s a trip to the park, a family picnic, or a summer

holiday adventure—many parents find themselves needing a little time to unwind. Aromatherapy can help create a calming atmosphere at home and signal that it’s time to slow down.

Mandarin essential oil is a wonderful choice during the summer months. Its sweet, cheerful citrus scent is uplifting and comforting, helping to create a positive and relaxed environment.

Lavender essential oil remains a favourite for evening use, thanks to its soothing aroma and ability to encourage a sense of calm.

A simple way to enjoy these oils is to add a few drops to an aromatherapy diffuser in the early evening. Combining mandarin and lavender creates a beautifully balanced blend that feels both uplifting and relaxing. The bright citrus notes of mandarin help ease the transition from a busy day, while lavender encourages rest and tranquillity.

As summer unfolds, consider embracing the scents of the season. Whether you’re enjoying the fragrance of lavender in the garden or diffusing a calming blend at home, these simple rituals can help bring moments of peace and wellbeing to everyday life.

BRAMHALL GOLF CLUB CELEBRATES CAPTAINS’ MONTH

June marked one of the most anticipated periods in the Bramhall Golf Club calendar as members came together to celebrate Captains’ Month. The Captain’s and Lady Captain’s competitions are among the club’s flagship annual events, providing an opportunity to recognise the dedication of the club’s dignitaries while enjoying outstanding golf, hospitality, and entertainment. Both the Captain and Lady Captain hosted their respective competition days, each culminating in memorable evening celebrations that reflected the spirit and camaraderie that make Bramhall Golf Club such a special place.

Lady Captain’s Day

Lady Captain’s Day proved to be a tremendous success, bringing together 93 ladies for a day of competitive golf, friendship, and celebration. Following the golf, members enjoyed a wonderful Spanish-themed dinner before being entertained by a spectacular Elton John tribute performance that had more than 100 ladies dancing late into the evening. Reflecting on her special day, the Lady Captain said: “What an amazing and very special day, highlighting exactly why Bramhall Golf Club is such an incredible club.

I thoroughly enjoyed every minute, from being on the 1st tee to greet every single one of the 93 ladies who played on the day, all arriving with smiles and wonderfully encouraging comments, through to an excellent Spanish-themed dinner, with the braised beef cheeks proving to be a particular highlight. The outstanding entertainment from Elton John rounded off the evening perfectly.

Inclusivity is incredibly important to us, so it was wonderful that our Bridge Ladies were able to enjoy their own indoor competition, followed by a relaxing afternoon tea, which I was delighted to join.

The course was presented in excellent condition as always, although strong winds and intermittent squally showers provided a stern test for the field.

Congratulations to Lady Captain’s Prize winner Vicky Clewley, whose performance was thoroughly deserving of the recognition she received, and to Jamie Philpot, winner of the 9-hole competition.”

Captain’s Weekend

Captain’s Weekend was equally memorable, with members enjoying a packed programme of golf and social events. The festivities began on Friday with a fun cross-country competition before continuing on Saturday with the first round of the two-day competition followed by a sold-out dinner and dance, complete with live band entertainment.

The Captain reflected on his special weekend:

“Having been a member of the club for almost 40 years, being appointed Captain was a tremendous honour, and Captain’s Weekend is undoubtedly the highlight of the Captain’s year.

Months of planning and preparation, supported by our General Manager and team, House Manager and Chef, the Handicap Committee, Professional Staff, and many volunteers, culminated in a fantastic weekend. From Friday’s fun cross-country competition to a packed Saturday dinner and dance, the atmosphere was superb throughout. Blessed with excellent weather and outstanding participation, the weekend concluded with an exciting finish and prize presentation. My sincere thanks go to everyone who contributed to and supported this memorable occasion.”

A Month to Remember

The feedback received following both events was overwhelmingly positive. Members were complimentary about every aspect of the celebrations, from the exceptional condition and presentation of the golf course to the quality of the food, organisation, and evening entertainment.

Above all, members expressed their appreciation for the incredible generosity, enthusiasm, and commitment shown by both Captains in delivering such outstanding occasions. Captains’ Month once again showcased the very best of Bramhall Golf Club and reinforced the strong sense of community that continues to make the club so special.

Mindset Advice

THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE THIS SUMMER

The above, now (very) famous quote, adopted by many academic institutions around the world today, is originally from the Bible, John 8:32 to be precise.

Whilst its original meaning is not important for this article, it is interesting to note how the meaning of this, or any phrase can be adapted to fit any situation, or any needs.

Originally this was said to be Jesus telling Jewish people who did not believe in him and his teachings that if they did, they would know the truth and would be set free [from their sins].

A more modern interpretation of this statement could simply be to observe that untruths, deception or lies can eat away at a person over time. It takes many more lies to maintain a single lie, and at any point the guard can slip, this tightrope is not an easy one to tread and it can be very draining and complex. The truth, whilst difficult sometimes to express, is liberating and simple to exist around once it is out there.

There are a great many more brilliant quotes on truth, and a couple are below with short explanations:

“The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.”

Written by Winston Churchill in his war memoirs. A stark reminder that the truth will always win in the end because it is indestructible, independent and ultimately undeniable. Anyone concealing anything with lies must always worry that one day the truth will emerge.

“A lie cannot live” - Martin Luther King Jr. simply stating that lies cannot exist forever, whereas the truth can and will.

This concept can be demonstrated by considering all the untruths about the world that have existed; The flat earth theories, the one about the sun and stars orbiting the earth, believing that sacrificing people would make crops grow better… These beliefs were temporary because they weren’t true. However, If you destroyed every scientific textbook in the world and made up stories about existence again in their place; before too long, every scientific text book would be back, more or less the same. This is because they tell the truth, science is simply explaining what already is there.

The context I have given on the truth here is needed in order to deal with the following questions most effectively, which are your homework… but don’t worry, I won’t be collecting it in and marking it, it’s just for you! (Please scribble away!)

Are you being honest with yourself in all aspects of your life?

Are you being honest right now with the people around you in your life about how you are doing, how things are going for you, and how you are feeling?

If not (to either or both of the above), why not? And how could you start to address this?.

Are you getting the most you can out of this summer? It has already started incase you haven’t noticed.

How many summers do you have left in your life? A clue is that life expectancy in the UK is around 80. So for me, who is approaching 40, I have seen around half of the summers I will ever see…

Given the above sobering reality, how are you going to make this summer one you will never forget.

We only get one chance at life. Being totally honest with yourself, and remembering that the truth will set you free, are you living a life you can be proud of? Are you living up to your potential? Are you making memories that will be far more important than anything else when your summers are running out?

It is time for home truths this summer, and remember, a lie cannot live, so be honest and take action once you have confronted the truth and been liberated, you will not regret it.

Enjoy the summer, you only get this one once.

2026/7 SEASON

www.ticketsource.co.uk/sso

Singapore Sea Bream with Thai Basil and Chilli

I made this the other day and it was really simple (after some chopping) and very delicious. I’d serve it with some plain boiled rice and a cold beer.

Serves 4

4 Sea Bream fillets (You can use whole Sea Bream but it’s fiddly)

4 tbsp cooking oil

1 tbsp cornflour

A thumb sized piece of ginger peeled and julienned

2 fresh red chillies (medium hot) seeded and julienned

1 red onion finely sliced

125g Thai Basil chopped inc stalks

125g Coriander chopped inc stalks

3 spring onions trimmed and julienned

Sauce

4 tbsp Lime juice (about 3 limes)

1 tbsp soft brown sugar

2 tsp oyster sauce

2 tbsp dark soy sauce

1 tbsp light soy sauce

Start by mixing up the sauce in a jam jar – put it aside

Put the oven on low and put in your plates and a serving platter. Put the cornflour onto a plate then slash the skin of the fish fillets and coat them in the cornflour. Heat the oil in a large non stick frying pan or wok. Fry the fillets for a couple of minutes each side until they are nicely browned. Don’t overcook the fish. Set the fish aside on the warmed serving platter.

Wash out the pan and add a little of the oil. When hot add the chillies, onions and ginger. Cook for a couple of minutes then add the sauce before adding the basil, coriander and spring onions. Cook for another couple of minutes (you may want to add a splash of water to make more sauce. Pour the contents of the pan over the fish and serve with the rice.

Enjoy.

HOW PILATES CAN IMPROVE YOUR DAY-TO-DAY LIFE

Does housework, gardening, sitting at a desk or driving the car for long periods cause back pain?

Many of us suffer from aches and pains that make daily tasks hard to complete. A couple Pilates sessions a week can go a long way to making this easier.

Pilates isn’t just for young women looking to keep fit and tone their stomachs. Pilates offers medical benefits for people of all ranges.

Back Pain – This is a problem that affects people of all ages. Long periods of bad posture can really leave your spine feeling weak. Pilates will help to strengthen the muscles around the spine to prevent you doing any damage. It will also allow for added flexibility meaning your back can handle being sat at a desk for long periods of time, or even being hunched during sports. For example, scrumming in Rugby.

Flexibility – You might be a little surprised to hear that your flexibility can affect your dayto-day life! But people whose muscles are supple and flexible are less likely to suffer from muscular injuries. Furthermore, a recent study showed that although a course of Pilates didn’t significantly reduce falls amongst seniors. There were less injurious falls. This shows how people with more supple muscles were hardier.

Sleep – It’s no secret that exercise helps you to sleep better. A recent study found that Pilates can improve sleep patterns, reduce daytime sleepiness and reduce broken sleep cycles.

Improves your mood – Pilates creates an endorphin rush, this can significantly improve your mood. It’s not just a brief rush though, there is a sustained pleasure from living in a fit, flexible and pain free body.

Great for Cardio – People often dismiss Pilates for not being a proper cardiovascular work out. What they don’t realise is that Joseph Pilates was an asthmatic. The exercises he designed improves breathing by strengthening the muscles around your ribs and chest. This helps you to breath more efficiently. If you want to get your blood pumping then go for a run, but if you really want to improve your cardio then combine it with Pilates.

Improves your Core – Pilates very much focuses on creating a strong core. Day to day movement is all driven from the abdominals, glutes and inner thighs. This is the exact powerhouse that Pilates works.

It’s a whole-body thing – Pilates builds strength across the whole body. If you’re in the gym pumping weights you are only working isolates muscles. This doesn’t translate in to whole body functional strength. Quite likely, it will leave you lopsided and imbalanced. Pilates is designed to build a balanced functional strength that can generate real power throughout the whole body.

Pilates is for life and can be life changing, so join a Pilates class now!
