In 1994, the ANESEC was officially registered and adopted a non-profit association status. ANESEC is co-founder of the Fondation des Universitaires en Sciences Economiques (FUSE) and serves as an advisory member to the Association des Cercles Luxembourgeois (ACEL). Today the association is the only national organization representing the interests of Luxembourg business and economics students from all over Europe. The association is managed by a board of approximately 10 representatives exercising their mandate as volunteers and for the good of its member students.

ANESEC has three main priorities: In a first instance, we guide and assist high school

Why did you join ANESEC? “ … well, I was recruited in a pub in Strasbourg by Christian Lamesch, president 2004/05. At the beginning it was a bit like a start-up. At our first REE we only had 6 companies participating, 3 year later we already had 22 companies! ”

How did ANESEC contribute to your professional career? “ The annual REE allowed privileged contacts to an important number of employers. So that, up to now, I never had to write any job application. ”

The priority of this year’s mandate was to retain and attract new prospective active members to ensure the continuity of the association. Hence, a great part of the budget was allocated to marketing campaigns targeting young and future graduates. During the pandemic, members enjoyed participating in online quizzes, webinars, and sports challenges.

ANESEC jumped on that trend and organized an advent calendar in 2020 and monthly Instagram quizzes with giveaways from local businesses. This was a 2 in 1 action, increasing ANESEC’s social media presence while supporting local companies.

In return, the committee decided to increase ANESEC’s social and humanitarian investment. After a first successful edition in 2020, the ‚Work Out To Help Out’ concept was brought back into life, combining sport and donation. Once per semester, an event was launched during which ANESEC members could share their workout on the association’s Facebook page or send proof of their workout via email.

In return, ANESEC donated a certain amount for each taken workout to a chosen humanitarian or social association. All in all, the concept resulted in 2000 € donations to various organisations as ‚Ärzte ohne Grenzen’ and Pure Ocean Fund.

The greatest challenge of this year was to think of an alternative event for the famous ‘REE - Rencontre Entreprises Étudiants’ that was as attractive as the original event while meeting all covid sanitary measures. To be on the safe side, the committee decided to switch to an online edition that would be launched under the concept of speed meetings. Instead of members walking from one partner stand to the next one in the Chambre de commerce, as was usually the case, students would switch from one skype meeting to the next one.

After the great success of speed meetings between members and partners, ANESEC decided to reiterate the event but at a larger scale. The ‘Business Week’, organised in April, was made up of partner networking events as well as an intermediate and an advanced excel workshop. The whole was round up by surprise networking boxes which were filled with gadgets dependent on the companies each member decided to sign up for, ANESEC goodies as well as soft drinks and snacks.

Lastly, ANESEC took part in two events organised by key players in the Luxembourg economy: A virtual round table with the Ministry of the Economy Franz Fayot and a listening session with the BCL about the review of the ECB’s monetary policy strategy.

In conclusion, considering the sanitary circumstances, ANESEC tried its best to offer its members a wide range of activities and online events. Taking into account the feedback of partners and members, it was all in all a successful academic year.
