The San Diego Community College District and San Diego City College are proud to support the Ocean Beach Music and Art Festival. FM radio KSDS Jazz 88 is one of the premier programs at City College and the most unique jazz station in San Diego. Together, we support its special relationship with both Ocean Beach and this important festival.

Many positive changes have been implemented in order to make the festival even better this year. Now it is a true community event which involves the entire Ocean Beach community. A part of Newport Avenue has been blocked off for a wonderful display of fine-art from some of the best visual artists San Diego has to offer, with festivities beginning at 10:00 a.m. There are 26 amazing bands on 3 indoor stages and 4 outdoor stages. Some of the bands are internationally acclaimed Grammy award winners. The music ranges from jazz to blues to swing to funk - something for everyone! In this economy, an effort was made to keep the ticket price affordable at $30. With a Festival wristband, attendees will receive discounts at over 2 dozen Ocean Beach restaurants.

Throughout the day, the Festival will pay special tribute to the men and women of our Armed Forces, in honor and remembrance of September 11, 2001. We salute those who defend our freedom and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in freedom’s defense.

All of us in the San Diego Community College District and City, from our Board of Trustees to our faculty, staff and students, hope that you will enjoy this remarkable day.

A Possible Itinerary for the Day

There is a ton of musical and artistic talent. With admission, you can check out 26 bands featuring local legends, Grammy winners and international superstars. REAL GREAT MUSIC. In addition, the free art row section has some of the best in fine-art visual artists.

9:00 AM – Arrive in Ocean Beach. There is plenty of street parking this early. Go to one of the Ticket Booths to exchange my $30 ticket for a Festival wristband.

A $30 ticket gets you EVERYTHING: Access to all the stages which includes the Main Stage, the Community Stage, Gallagher’s Pub Stage, The Harp Stage, Winston’s Stage, and The Hodad’s Tent Stage!

9:15 AM – Grab breakfast at one of the participating restaurants (page 7 of this program) and get a discount with your festival wristband!

There are so many different elements to the festival including a free art row section in the middle of Newport Ave. between Bacon and Cable Streets, discounts at over 2 dozen restaurants in Ocean Beach with festival wristband, a craft beer garden, and 26 amazing bands!

10:00 AM – Peruse Art Row that opens at 10 AM and pick up a wonderful piece of art for the living room!

11:00 AM – Head on over to the Community Stage for the opening of the festival and a tribute to the fallen of 9/11. The MLK Choir kicks the music off at the festival. Peruse the vendors set up on the Community Stage grassy area.

11:30 AM– 1:00 PM – Bounce around the 6 stages (and one VIP stage if you have that ticket) from Main Stage to Gallagher’s to Winston’s to Hodad’s Tent Stage to The Harp and back listening to great music the whole way.

1:15 PM – Time to wet the whistle at the Craft Beer Garden sponsored by Pizza Port, Ballast Point, Stone Brewing Co., and Coronado Brewing Company!

1:30 PM – Getting hungry – go for lunch at another participating restaurant and get another discount with your Festival wristband!
